I had a thought similar to this (but maybe less specific ) A month where you have to use sims from someone else's story Or (crazier idea!) a month where you have to write a sequel to someone else's past short story submission (using their characters)
@Carewren123 those ideas may be a little too weird, but there you go
That would be a very hard theme for me, seeing as I'm the only one of y'all writing on a different version of the game and therefore unable to load up TS4 Sims into my game. ^_^;;;
Whoops, sorry @mastressalita I was just being kinda weird with my suggestions haha
You could just talk about Meatball the whole time @mastressalita and just not include him in the pictures. Though, it does sound like some people would struggle not seeing a picture. lol

Theme: The Countdown
As I tried to think of a theme that would be fitting of the new year but not something that's too obvious or too narrow I thought of that traditional countdown to midnight. Your stories don't have to be about that countdown; as always make what you will of this theme. But each submission this month should include some sort of countdown in the story. I'm excited to see what everyone comes up with this month!
No special rules this time around. The regular 500-1500 word and 1-12 picture limit are in place for December.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Superlatives: Each month we try to discuss all the entries by giving each unique "awards" Please know that these aren't official in any way, it is just a fun thing for us to do to wrap up each month. We basically love all the stories not just the ones that win, so we found a way to share some positive feedback. Also everyone is welcome to share their own superlatives each month after voting is finished. If you want to read what people had to say about this month's entries click on the links below.
February's Theme: A Different Kind of Love The idea behind this theme of course comes from the fact that Valentine's Day is this month. Knowing that many of you would love to write a love story this time of year I definitely wanted to include that in the theme. I think this theme also is the perfect one for those writers who enjoy twisting (in the most awesome ways) the themes in a darker direction. So this month, your stories must be about some kind of love. Put a twist on a romance. Make it a platonic love. Make about any kind of non-romantic love. Make it a love for something instead of someone. Make the theme whatever you wish. I guarantee if you love your idea, lots of others will too.
Special Rules: I thought about making this month a super-short story month, since February is this shortest month - but I'm going to do the opposite and give you all the option to use more than the usual words and pictures. For this month you can use up to 2000 words and up to 15 pictures.
Oooh I have ideas already! Though they are so predictable
EDIT: But, to be clear, it can't be romantic love, right? So any type of love as long as it isn't romantic?
Oh it can definitely be romantic as long as there's a twist. Something to make it "different". Whatever the difference/twist is, is up to you all. I'll clarify the post, thanks.
EDIT: I put it in bold now. Don't want anyone who wants to write a romance to think they can't.
Voting is now open, but before you vote I want to remind everyone of an important rule.
You must vote for a different story for each place! This means that you cannot choose the same story for each question on the poll. I do not own the paid membership to polldaddy, so there is no way that I know of to prevent voters from doing that in the format of the poll. It's up to each of you to be honest. However I ALWAYS check each vote before I tally the results. Any votes that ignore this rule are not counted. (Yep that means I can see each individual vote)
Moral of the story if you are voting for your story for all three places trying to get extra points, you are actually only hurting your point total! Sorry not sorry.
Now the vast majority of everyone who has every participated in the monthly fun here has followed the rules, so don't worry yourselves about this too much.
Voting for the winner of the January challenge is open at this time.
Just click on the link below to choose your picks for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places! You can only vote once, so make it count. (A vote for 1st will give that story 3 points. A vote for 2nd is worth 2 points. And a vote for 3rd gives 1 point. At the end of the voting period I'll tally all the points and announce the winners!)
Please be sure to vote for a different story for each place.
I have an idea to use characters from my Thoreau story (Hadley and Carter) for this prompt, since they have a more unusual love story. I'd like to remain true to the canon I've established and use their real original meeting. I want to tell this meeting from a different perspective, though, so I only want to use some parts of dialogue from the original story; this dialogue would make up less than 100 words of the story. Would it be okay to use that in my story? Their meeting isn't the whole story I have in mind, just the beginning.

We have so many entries this month! It's wonderful! I read the first half, and now have to take a break. Am looking forward to reading the next half! But, I'm not looking forward to voting. There are already so many I want to vote for, and I'm not even finished reading yet! The pain is real!
I already know which is my #1, but I want to know who my next two are. I need to look at them all again. Everyone did fantastic this month. I'm sure everyone says that every month, though. lol I truly am unsure who my #2 and #3 are. So tough.
Comments
YES! We have to do that! Those are awesome ideas!
That is an another awesome idea. They would be so much fun to read!

I would think it could for sure be romantic love--as long as the story showed the ways in which it was a "different" kind of love....
