@mycami21 I don't think I was charged. I tried to send you the Once Upon a Time item twice and both times the page timed out and loaded an error page, so looks like it sent you the notification but not the gift. So much fun with the store.
Awww. Thank you for making me feel missed. I have been going through one of my not feeling so hot spells. (Having a chronic disease I've gotten use to it.) So I have been lurking and trying not to totally disappear. I have been Like/Awesoming everyone though.
Promise I will try to comment here more often.
Of course! But I realized after I posted that, you'd commented twice before. Haha... However, it was your "absence" on this thread from the 14th to the 17th I was noticing. I'm sorry you haven't been feeling the best; it seems like a lot of our fellow Simmers are going through a rough patch right now. Oh, and thank you for the gift! It's so cute, and it helped lower my CYS.
That said, only my very closest OE friends know about the level of my obsession with The Sims!
My boyfriend is really the only one who knows. And he thinks I'm a huge dork for it. However, he'll marvel at some of the builds or scenes I'm able to create. And he even supports me getting a better system on which to run The Sims.
As far as I'm aware, it's still legal to be fired for being gay in the US. With the exception of a few consistently liberal states that have protection laws, there is no federal law or Constitutional clause that says we can't be fired for being gay or transgender.
Unfortunately, at-will employment makes it really easy to fire someone without it being known that it's the result of discrimination.
We're all human, and should be treated with decency. No one should be mocked or belittled or made to feel "less than."
And on that note (well, sort of), @ajaxpost, don't be so quick to count yourself out!
So many times over the years I have thought to comment on something on a forum thread only to think, "no, someone else has already said that" or "I'm not adding to the conversation, I'll wait till I have something useful to say" - and it's the same in OE too
You come with a set of experiences and insights that are unique to you, and they can enhance any conversation. Not to mention what you might be missing out on. So speak up! That goes for everyone else, too.
Hi all. It has been a long three days for me. I have been staying with my daughter and her family while they have been dealing with a stomach virus. I am back home now and don't have a lot of brain power left to comment much.
I take it that they're doing better then, @Me1620?

And I also tend to be one of those people that occasionally I'll pop on and not say anything because I don't feel like I have anything to say. I've been trying not to do that as much, because it occurred to me one day that my internet friends have no way of knowing that I just dropped by. It's not like when your standing in person in a conversation and even if you don't say anything you can at least smile and nod that you agree. Sometimes I'm still guilty but I'm trying but at the same time I don't want to just bust up into a conversation with no more to add than "oh me too!". I do at least try to acknowledge people who acknowledge me. Hopefully I don't offend or annoy anyone.
Seems I am not alone in this You are right @Tamaek, it probably is more important to be involved on an "impersonal" forum where we don't have the benefit of being 'in person'.
Oh dear, I've been ranting again. I'm afraid that being one of the oldest members of the group I tend to get a little preachy. But as I've made clear above, I hate to miss an opportunity to share what experience I believe has maybe brought me some wisdom. And hopefully kindness. But then, I think I'm preaching to the choir here. I've seen nothing but love and support between the members of this group. But maybe a tidbit I've shared here will give someone a little boost in their own little battles. K. nuff said.
Thank you for sharing part of your own personal story ... though I think you may just be among "the oldest members of the group"
And I definitely agree with you about our being able to help each other by sharing our own experiences - especially so when we don't fit the "stereotypes". It was such a revelation when I started to socialise with other gay men to realise that there was no common stereotype, that we were all just so 'ordinary'. There was no 'typical' gay man just like there is no 'typical' straight man - we are as diverse a group of people as any other bar the fact that we share a gender attraction. In fact just like the members of this TS3 community - we are all different but share a common interest in getting the best out of one of our favourite games!
@JoeJude16 I don't mind your ranting; it's nice to have a healthy outlet to rant sometimes. (Although I didn't know we were allowed to talk about these things here, when they have to use the word WooHoo in the game. )
I believe EA doesn't like "personally identifiable" information being shared - like full names, addresses, photographs and the like but (non-explicit) personal stories are fine ... and this particular thread has always been welcoming of a little 'off-topic' conversation.
Delighted to hear of your friends up-coming marriage and I hope their relationship will not be questioned or compromised by the backward forces of ignorance that are still demanding prejudice.
That said, only my very closest OE friends know about the level of my obsession with The Sims!

Sure sounds like you've struck lucky there - a most understanding boyfriend!
To be fair, I think a lot of my own reticence at coming out as a Sims player is internalised 'guilt' or 'shame' that a "grown man" (of considerable vintage!) is wasting time playing not only a computer game but effectively a 'dolls house' mostly played by young(ish) women! Now, if it was GTA, or Call of Duty, or Football Manager (which I have actually played and got obsessed with!) it might be different as they are, apparently 'cooler' and certainly more 'manly'.

Absolutely agree with your 'all human' point. One of my own little mottoes is that we are all the same because we are all different, and because we are all different we are all equally valuable.
And on your last point ... Yes Boss!
Edit: Oops! Forgot to add ... @Me1620, hope all is well with you Jodi, and your family is recovering from the effects of that virus.
Pops out of lurkdom to say Hi! Hubby has instructions to let y'all know if anything ever happens to me. I worry so about others that have 'gone astray', but, am terrible about chatting as often with the new job. Take care!

Gahhh I need the Business as Usual Bistro, I think my flight gets in a few hours before that, but I'm going to be exhausted. I hope I can stay up long enough! I missed that one last cycle.
I've got 3 of the upcoming deals in my phone's calendar with alarms. Hopefully I'll actually be able to get online at those times and get them.
"Business as Usual Bistro", "Brunch at the Old Mill", and "Sunlit Tides".
Gahhh I need the Business as Usual Bistro ... I hope I can stay up long enough! I missed that one last cycle.
THIS. I'm actually really happy that everything moved up 7 minutes because this one will now happen slightly later in the early morning hours so that maybe I can get it since I have to be up early for work that day anyway. Don't know about the rest of you, but for me 7 minutes of extra sleep is a huge deal lol!
FINALLY got my Wishlist sorted. I found if I move no more than 4 or 5 items before refreshing the page it actually saves it, while if I try moving much beyond that between refreshes it loses all the work I did when refreshed.
As for getting those 3 things from the DD, I have a little over 1/2 the SP I need, 980 more to go... At least I have a few days to get them in...
*EDIT* Had a good run of ads, got all the points I needed for them! ^_^ *END EDIT*

Good to hear. To be honest, I know quite a few of my friends do enjoy computer games though it is seldom a topic of discussion. You're right, the amazing thing about The Sims is that it is such an open and creative environment encompassing role playing, strategy, building, story writing, video making - how many other games offer so much?
As it happens, although I am not a fully fledged member of the anorakarati, I do love transport games. Ever since Sid Meier's original Railroad Tycoon, through Transport Tycoon, Cities in Motion ... in fact my other Lets Play series is Train Fever (soon to be Transport Fever!) I guess they have a similar strategy/building thing that appeals, like The Sims. Never played an actual, train simulator though.
It's the same for me ... as a grown woman! So maybe it's not quite the same. But my boyfriend still asks me if I'm playing with my "Barbies" whenever I've got the game loaded up.
When I discovered the original The Sims, the connection/comparison I made was a whole lot darker than Barbie. My first through was Perky Pat Layouts as described by the twisted genius that was Philip K Dick - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Days_of_Perky_Pat
Hi all. I have so much I would like to add but the virus has not been defeated yet and I am exhausted. I was supposed to go to work tomorrow but my daughter looked at me with puppy dog eyes and I decided I should use a banked day tomorrow. It is very late. I want to reply to some of the conversation but please forgive me if I don't make sense or make obvious grammar mistakes.
I will start with @bekkasan - I have seen that you post on other threads so I know you are still active. I think we should start a pledge, "In the event of an unplanned extended absence, I will have someone in OE notify my Sims 3 friends that I will not be able to post" - hopefully the absence is only temporary.
That is hilarious @angeljess26 and thank you for sharing! Made me laugh (also made me google REM's Shiny Happy People and watch the video on YouTube to refresh me on the song)!
@Tamaek - If you enjoyed Cogitotoro's Shiny Happy Toilets check out her other song adaptation of "Those Were the Days" and ZeeGee's reworked "My Way" to commemorate her wishlist being wiped out.
That said, only my very closest OE friends know about the level of my obsession with The Sims!
My daughter plays the Sims but she laughs at me. She says that I don't play the Sims, I spend more time on the forum. My husband rolls his eyes at my obsession with The Sims. If he hears me laugh when I am sitting at the computer, he makes a comment like "What did one of your Sim friends say now." He loves going to the gym and has a group of running friends he hangs out with outside the gym. Yet, he didn't understand why I made arrangements to meet up with one of my DD friends when my family was going to be vacationing where she lived. I don't share with many outside the TS3 community that I created a spreadsheet to track DLC sales. I have told some, and that people from all over the world have used it but they still have this look in their eyes. I have never ever shared with my husband exactly what I have spent on the Sims franchise. He would never understand that one.
@ajaxpost and @JoeJude16 - Thank you for sharing about your OE lives. This is what I love about the DD thread. I have been in other forums where people actually take the time to yell at people if they go off topic and that is even when they ask a technical question in the wrong thread. I feel it makes this thread richer when we can share. You aren't just a username and an avatar wanting to talk Sims. I am glad you both found that you don't have to be someone you are not and can share with others. I have many friends and family who are gay. They are so relieved when they share about being gay and they find acceptance from those close to them. I work in an office that was quite toxic until only recently when management finally took action to rid us of the disrespectful few. It was not only my co-worker who is gay who was subjected to disrespectful behaviour. The person who tormented him, tormented many of us for various reasons but mainly because we were different than she.
@JoeJude16 - I was born the year Philips introduced the audiocassette tape player; the year of the Cuban Missile Crisis; and the year the Beatles released their first single Love Me Do in the UK. I think that would place me in with the adults about to become elders.
.... I have found this thread, and others on this forum, to be very respectful, friendly and caring environment. There are a lot of comments to follow, but it was so quiet over the summer, I am enjoying all the activity and conversations.
I meant the thread was quiet back in the summer but now I am enjoying all the activity.
I have been reading, deleting, recomposing this post for too long. This is why I have not been posting much lately. It takes me too long to compose a few paragraphs. I am Left-Brained which is why I like spreadsheets and numbers.
I have never heard of this collection. It does sound like a Sims Challenge.
ETA - I have actually been surprised now and again to find out that someone I have known for a long time plays The Sims. For example, I was at a hair appointment when my hairstylist mentioned during one of our conversations about playing this computer game called the Sims. Well, I was so excited we talked about the game for the next few appointments.

Hi Jodi, hopefully the effort of keeping up and responding to all this thread activity has not been too tiring and that you will soon be feeling 100%.
One of the reasons I don't always contribute much is that I also can take forever to write, mostly because (a) I am a terrible typist and (b) I am never entirely happy that I have expressed myself in the way I really intend, which goes some way to explaining my complicated sentences and overly long exposition!
Thinking more about not revealing every aspect of ourselves to everyone, such as coming out as a Sims Store Addict (SSA), I'm reminded of an excellent essay I read about the fallacy of the "nothing to hide, nothing to fear" argument. Basically, notwithstanding other societal benefits of enshrining a right to privacy, we all need some private space we can call our own, that we don't have to share with everyone, something that makes us unique among the communities we inhabit. There's a good summary of the essay at https://wiki.dandascalescu.com/summaries/why_privacy_matters_even_if_you_have_nothing_to_hide
But it is still a very powerful human need to be able to share with people we know will understand us, which is why I love being a part of this particular community..
I do feel sorry for the "toxic tormentor" who made your office such an unpleasant place. That level of ignorance and internalised pain must surely have destroyed their own life, causing her to inflict hurt on those she saw as happier and more successful. Even so, I am glad to hear that they have been removed to make your office environment a much healthier place.
And. following your example, I will offer just one clue as to when I joined the world; it was the year that Harold MacMillan opened the very first stretch of motorway in the UK.
That sound you all heard was the combined wail of every American (and Canadian) girl in love with @ajaxpost's accent. (Not me of course, I am a very happily married mature woman!)
I can't reply to everything I want to right now cause I'm on my phone but Jodi, hope your family is better soon.

That is dark. And the accuracy of the comparison scares me a little. Now I feel guilty for playing Perky Pat while so many in the world around me use their time more productively. Sigh ... escapism.

Back then, I think "Second Life" was getting started and a lot of techies were predicting a future full of avatars, virtual relationships, holograms, grocery delivery by drones and being so into science fiction as I was ... it seemed just too coincidental.
Now, if EA had actually released TS4 as the online environment they had planned, well, the comparisons to Perky Pat do start getting uncomfortable ... and without the need of an actual apocalypse to get us there!
Anyway back on topic ... surely someone has snagged a great deal today? Someone? ... Anyone?

I've mentioned before that I was briefly into Second Life. And I logged in one time in front of company, forgetting that I was in the process of body sculpting (that was my forte), and my avatar was naked ... and there was no blur patch. I was a little bit embarrassed, but instead I just used the opportunity to tell them about Second Life, what I was doing, and the potential to earn real money through creating content for the virtual world. But as I've also shared, I left because I didn't really "fit in" there. I preferred the cleaner environment of There--which I just found out has been resurrected. However, I'm not willing to pay for a monthly membership. And I don't think it would be of interest to me any more.
Though it doesn't show the body shape (but it does show the face I made), this was one of the punkier/goth avatars I created to showcase my body shapes. But I never got around to opening up a "shop." Of course, a lot of the quality is due to the graphic (skin) that's laid over the shape. And unfortunately I don't remember to whom that credit goes, though I'm sure I could find out if I ever logged into Second Life Again. But I shopped around foreeeever before committing to that skin ...'cause I had to pay real money for that, ya'll! No ad farming there. Thankfully, the creator had trial skins.
(Little memory: I made my self represenative avatar my actual height in game. But since so few people knew, or cared, about the height conversions, everyone else was a giant and I was sooo small in comparison. But I'm 5'7" ... so I'm really not short. It's just that most avatars were like 6'6" to 7'6".)
Now, if EA had actually released TS4 as the online environment they had planned, well, the comparisons to Perky Pat do start getting uncomfortable ... and without the need of an actual apocalypse to get us there!
I had no idea that's what was planned for TS4! Maybe that's why it was such a letdown to so many people? Do you know what happened that caused the direction of the project to change? Wasn't The Sims Online kind of a flop?

That post, and that page, brought back such good memories, miss the times when our LOLs made funny posts even funnier somehow. Thanks for the memories, Jodi
On the subject of posting, I often don't post because in the past I've dashed off a post that I thought was funny but it didn't translate on a written forum. So I've learned to wait and think about it, then I usually decide not to due to the risk of offending someone who doesn't get my particular brand of humor.

As I get closer to owning the store, or at least everything on the DD list, I find myself going several hours or even days between purchases. My last big purchase was the Full Hewnsman Set I got for free with a green download, and then the Frontier Finds Kitchen. I have all the custom content and shops except the glass-blowing one.
My boyfriend is really the only one who knows. And he thinks I'm a huge dork for it. However, he'll marvel at some of the builds or scenes I'm able to create. And he even supports me getting a better system on which to run The Sims.
You come with a set of experiences and insights that are unique to you, and they can enhance any conversation. Not to mention what you might be missing out on. So speak up! That goes for everyone else, too.
I take it that they're doing better then, @Me1620?

Seems I am not alone in this You are right @Tamaek, it probably is more important to be involved on an "impersonal" forum where we don't have the benefit of being 'in person'.

The Cowboy and the Mermaid
I have been lucky to never get any shame from my friends for playing Sims. And I wouldn't care if they did, either. Its just as much a strategy game as StarCraft or the like, even if it lacks the "action" of games like GTA or Skyrim. My other love is trains and I play the heck out of train simulation games, too.
It's the same for me ... as a grown woman! So maybe it's not quite the same. But my boyfriend still asks me if I'm playing with my "Barbies" whenever I've got the game loaded up.

THIS. I'm actually really happy that everything moved up 7 minutes because this one will now happen slightly later in the early morning hours so that maybe I can get it since I have to be up early for work that day anyway. Don't know about the rest of you, but for me 7 minutes of extra sleep is a huge deal lol!

When I discovered the original The Sims, the connection/comparison I made was a whole lot darker than Barbie. My first through was Perky Pat Layouts as described by the twisted genius that was Philip K Dick - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Days_of_Perky_Pat
Anyone else a PKD fan?

I will start with @bekkasan - I have seen that you post on other threads so I know you are still active. I think we should start a pledge, "In the event of an unplanned extended absence, I will have someone in OE notify my Sims 3 friends that I will not be able to post" - hopefully the absence is only temporary.
@Tamaek - If you enjoyed Cogitotoro's Shiny Happy Toilets check out her other song adaptation of "Those Were the Days" and ZeeGee's reworked "My Way" to commemorate her wishlist being wiped out.
@JoeJude16 - I think you misunderstood my comment. I am hardly experiencing summer months. I live in Canada I meant the thread was quiet back in the summer but now I am enjoying all the activity.
I have been reading, deleting, recomposing this post for too long. This is why I have not been posting much lately. It takes me too long to compose a few paragraphs. I am Left-Brained which is why I like spreadsheets and numbers.

That is dark. And the accuracy of the comparison scares me a little. Now I feel guilty for playing Perky Pat while so many in the world around me use their time more productively. Sigh ... escapism.

And, like I've said before, I don't have an accent!

I had no idea that's what was planned for TS4! Maybe that's why it was such a letdown to so many people? Do you know what happened that caused the direction of the project to change? Wasn't The Sims Online kind of a flop?
This really made me laugh out loud! My boyfriend's mom turned around and asked what was amusing me...

I am now! Looks awesome. And lol, quit trying to change the subject

Proud member of the "Own The Store Club"
As I get closer to owning the store, or at least everything on the DD list, I find myself going several hours or even days between purchases. My last big purchase was the Full Hewnsman Set I got for free with a green download, and then the Frontier Finds Kitchen. I have all the custom content and shops except the glass-blowing one. It only comes up once in the rotation and I've missed it every time.
