Cascades & Daily Deals- Getting the best bang for your SP

So I've been hanging around on the DD thread since after Christmas. There is so much to learn there! Everything in my thread is built on the knowledge I gained from the DD stalkers. If you have general questions about calculating your complete your set discount (CYS) or how the daily deal (DD) rotation works, I highly recommend heading over to that thread, where there is a large amount of incredibly knowledgeable people to help you. They also have the link to the DD spreadsheet, which is where all of my information comes from. I wanted to create this thread so that I can share the deals I am finding all in one spot, so they don't get overlooked on the DD thread. You'll probably see me mention SPV - that's sim point value. SPV is the amount your item(s) is(are) actually worth in the CYS discount formula.

All of the deals I am posting are based on formulas from the DD thread, as well as the belief that the DD rotation will cycle through one more complete rotation. As the DD stalkers say,

DISCLAIMER: The spreadsheet is not a guarantee of when or if the deals will be offered. We do not work for the Sims 3 store and do not have any insider information as to when deals will be offered.

So if I end up being wrong about the DD rotating again, then you and I will both be very disappointed!

Getting deals this way requires a lot of patience, but I've had a lot of fun figuring them out, so I hope you will benefit from my toodling around. And of course, what works best for me may not work best for you depending on what you already own of certain sets. But if you're like me and do not own much of anything- this should work for you.

For those who are very new to cascades and DD stalking, there are a couple of often discussed cascades- Animals Abound & the Gothic Glamour. I've tried both- Animals Abound definitely works. This is how it goes:
buy one single item worth about 25 sp to initiate the CYS discount (I bought the fuzzy friend's lamp post (dd#293 for 7sp), then buy the Animals Abound Playground set for roughly 375 sp. Now go download the Tip top toddler set & Kids 2010 sets for free. This is a true glitch in the store, so all cascades do not work like this, but it is a glitch that everyone should take advantage of!!

Sadly the Gothic Glamour cascade has broken down- here is how it works now for reference: bought the statue for 25 SP, then the home office for 380 SP, then the GG Living room + home office collection was 40 SP, then technophobe was free (woo), and it is currently showing Oh My Goth! as costing 275 SP (not free like I was hoping for). So I had a 445 SP investment. Currently the daily deals can get you the same stuff for only ~425 SP by waiting for DD # 270 (gothic glam sofa- 48/99) and then getting Technophobe on DD#394 for an estimated 372 SPs. ***you may be able to get these items for even less using the dd rotation, but I have not spent that much time looking into it since I already own them***

Onto the deals!
If you already own the Chicken Coop- the Country Livin' set will be free when it pops up on DD# 450
If you tried the Gothic Glamour cascade like me- May 2012 compilation will be free when it pops up on DD at #395, #454, & #436 I believe
If you own Club Vaindenbrger Relaxation- Gentleman's Lounge Collection will be free at DD# 307
If you've done the Animal's Abound Cascade and own Itadikamisu/Best of 2012 collection and are purchasing zen again for the World Inspiration Collection - DD# 59: Eloquently Eclectic Collection will be FREE. In short-- free if you have a normal CYS of about 1275 sp.

Man Cave Compilation- 278 total SP
- DD #420: 8bits of screaming awesomeness (17 SP)
- DD #537: Wall of Greats (9 SP)
- DD #573: Vertical Challenge Rock Wall (180 SP)
- DD #660: Hokey Table (22 SP)
- DD #714: Man Cave Compilation- final price taking into account only these 4 DD purchases - (50 SP) !!! That's a 3,000 SP compilation for 278 SP.

Here's a big one, which may not be universally translatable, but it should help you brainstorm your own path:
Best of 2010 (271 TOT SP)*
- on sale: Tiki Living set (138 tot SP)

* your total SP investment will probably vary, but it can still be acquired very cheaply. You need a total regular CYS discount of 2210 to get the comp for free on DD.

Best of 2010 and Island Escape Compilation have a lot of overlap too. If you're working on one you should be able to get the other as well.

This is a great way to acquire Adventurous Life (Africa Inspired Collection + Safari Living + Rockwall) which is not CYS. These items above carry a SPV of 3412sp, which makes the CYS -10 (free!) If you already own some of this compilation, give me a shout, and I'll try to help you work it out.

thank you for doing this! if i understand your work correctly, if i own viva las vegas living, that should be enough to get the go all in compilation when it comes around? i ask because since i own the other two items in the September 2011 Compilation, I could get VLV Living for 245, effectively, so it would be even cheaper than the way you describe. does that question make sense? i'm not super interested in the set, but for 245 for the entire Go All In, that sounds pretty good!

ETA: wow, looking further, this could really help me, as i was planning to buy the regency arcade when it comes up on the dd for 629, but i won't if i'll get it for free via the Go All In comp!

I'm on my phone now, so I can't post the math, but yes- only owning VLV living should be enough to get Go All In for free. It seems crazy, but it's true. I'll edit my post in the morning with the math :)

Also- not sure what else is in the sept 2011 collection. But if any of that is also in go all in, you might not even need to buy VLV living.

@Radlee‌ - you need a CYS discount of 2165 to get Go All In for free on DD. VLV Living has a sim point value (SPV) of 1543, which makes the CYS 1675. Getting VLV is the cheapest way to acquire the compilation if you don't have a discount at all, but if you do already have a CYS discount, let me know and I can look at my spreadsheet for you.

Excellent thread. It is great to have this all in one place. I would like to link your thread to the Welcome sheet on the DD spreadsheet, if that is okay with you.

Thanks! I didn't know I would be able to get country living for free I am glad you posted this before I missed that. I have only recently got the hang of checking the sets on DD and not just making the assumption I could only afford single items. I love CYS <3 and also this thread thanks LadybugLeslie (*)

I had the las vegas living and it didn't reduce the thing for me at all. Maybe my math is wrong......I mentioned that my math sucks so I'm sure it's something on my end. I'll look again through your explanation. One way or another I'll figure this out. Thanks for this thread btw. :)

This is a really helpful thread. Thank you for taking the time to winnow out the details of the deals.

ETA: If you're looking for suggestions for cascades to consider, then there's quite a lot of the various Ultra Lounge items in the current DD list. With a combination of DD items and the Ultra Lounge Outdoor Set from this week's sale I managed to get the Full Ultra Lounge Set for just 55sp. If I'd waited for another rotation I might've shaved a few more sp off that, but I thought 55 was good enough :-)

What is your current CYS discount on the Go All In Compilation page ? If you own Viva Las Vegas Living, you should have a discount on that page now.

I'm glad it's helpful! I haven't looked too closely into Ultra Lounge, because the Best of 2010 compilation is heavy on Ultra Lounge items. I'm hopeful when I get the compilation, I'll be able to get the Ultra Lounge compilation for free. If you already have the UL compilation- check your discount on Best of 2010. You'll probably be able to get it for free when it comes up again too :D

When I mentioned that on another thread the other day someone gifted me the rest of the items (not from that thread but from another forum I go to). So I wound up getting the thing for free.

But I do have another question. I have the not so routine machine and own 38% of the A Mid-Century Modern Trailblazer Set, some I purchased in the past some of the items gifted. I see that at the moment my CYS is 580 sp. Looking at the spreadsheet it says that on the 18th it will be 468 sp. Then again on deal 551 it shows that the DD is 1/28 and 588 sp. Again, horrible math but where does the 125 sp mentioned above come from?

@SpiderCrowWolf, it's not actually math in this case; the 125sp is spent by buying the Not So Routine Machine on the DD first. When the set comes up after that, you should get it free if you only have that item.

Since you already have items from that set, it may or may not be cost effective to buy the PC on sale -- I recommend using the calculator in the other thread to work out what your price would be when the DD comes up without buying more items.

Here's the bit in the original post about the PC item (my emphasis):
Mid-Century Modern Trailblazer- 125 total SP
    - DD #460: Not So Routine Machine (125 SP)
    - DD #551: Mid-Century Modern Trailblazer -- Free-- 1250 SP set for 125 SP

@SpiderCrowWolf‌ if you own the not so routine machine already, the trailblazer set will be free for you when it comes up on DD. If you go to http://elianahere.jwhostings.net/

You should be able to punch in:
Dd price- 468 (which is dd#424)
    Full price- 1250
Cys- whatever the amount is showing on your modern century trailblazer set.

the amount that comes out should be negative or zero, which means it will be free.

It would also help if my computer cooperated with me and I could see which DD# we are at so I can at least follow along on the first page of the DD thread

Ok to make sure I understand. On the Man Cave DD (in a few hours which is lowest according to spreadsheet) is 750. Full Price is 3000. My CYS to complete is 2075 (I guess that means what I"m asked to pay now to complete the set????) Using the calculater you gave me it comes out to 50 SP? Am I understanding this correctly or am I still having a hard time grasping this?

That is exactly right!! You'll be able to get it for 50 SP when it pops up on DD #386, and if you miss it DD #714 has it for the same price. If you wanted to wait, you could pick up DD#660 (the hokey table) for 22 points, and that would make Man Cave free for you when it comes around at #714. But 50 SP is a great deal too!

Also we are at DD #383, Country Livin' is next at #384

Thank you. I got Country Living for free already a week ago because I had the chicken coop. I don't mind the 50 SP. My sim's kid is a few days from becoming a teen and so thought that would be nice to add for him.

CL is not showing up as free for me. I believe it is because the coop and the set are both on the regular sale sheet and it must be throwing the percentage math off. It still should be free when it comes up even cheaper at DD# 450. Sorry if anyone else is as disappointed as me!!
  • SpiderCrowWolfSpiderCrowWolf Posts: 1,380 Member
Yea I got mine free last week or the week before just from owning the coop.
  • SpiderCrowWolfSpiderCrowWolf Posts: 1,380 Member
I just thought of something? Do the items owned for the Man Cave have to be the items above? I have 4 items from the Man Cave (one being the Rock Wall) but the others are other items. Or does it not matter as long as the SPs add up?

Can I add my thanks to @LadybugLeslie for creating this thread; now that we know the what is on DD list for (probably) as long as the Store lasts knowing how to get the best cascade deals is so helpful.

    Thank you (*)

OMG! What would all of our DD hunting be worth if I let you gift me 100 SP of stuff I'll get for free next week?! Lol. You are sweet, but I can wait  I clicked off after my disappointment, and there isn't much time left now anyway. I'm getting now & then manor when it pops up tonight, so that will entertain me for a while :D

EDIT: I usually play with my game muted, but now I'll have to unmute at dawn to see! That would be a nice touch.

EDITED: Thanks @ajaxpost‌ !! Glad you veterans don't mind :) I was worried someone might be annoyed I started a different thread. But I have a lot of math to share :):):)

No the roosters don't go off at crack of dawn. You can argue and fight with Charlie the Chicken though and get a moodlet if you win. lol
