@JovialJoy just a heads up that while the casino isn't CYS, there are 2 compilations ( 1 with 2 of the tables and one containing every gambling thing released) that are available for CYS! That's how I got mine
Thanks @ajaxpost for the fun competition! I already built my bar and had fun with it. I decided to wait for a bit though because I can't post any links or pics yet plus The Now and Then Manor will be on DD on this Sunday and I'm going to grab it.
I have everything I want from the Sims 3 Store. Thanks again for everyone who helped

Hi @taratownie, thank you so much for your interest in my competition.
Aye, it sure is a pain not being a full member! When you're happy with your build and ready to share it I think you may be able to just type in the URL for it, if not I can find it on your Exchange studio or you can use the 'message' option on my profile page to send me the details and I'll add it to this thread.
Well, I followed some suggestions and used that Amore wallpaper for grungy walls. I "faded" the brick colors a bit too. I added some dandelions and some more dirt terrain paint. And I added a dumpster out front next to the driveway and road.

Most of its customers sing the blues too when they lose at the tables or slots. Oh well, its a place to get a drink and waste some time.

As you can see, the Vanderburgs did some play testing for me, and a mixologist showed up.
One thing I learned that I'll pass one to everyone: The corner chair at the gambling tables will place just fine with the table against the wall, but... the sim can NOT exit out of the right of the chair for some weird reason. So... place the table out from the wall a one complete tile.
Happy simming! I know you all can make much more derelic places. Let's see them!

@ajaxpost this looks cool! My creativity is a bit low but I may try this Great builds everyone!
Excellent, thank you. Maybe you're a bit like me ... when you start working on an idea that sparks your imagination more ideas and inspiration suddenly come tumbling out.
Yes, some great contributions so far and I look forward to seeing what you create.
Gonna be a bit longer before I can start my build. Game still won't play right so I've done everything tech-support has suggested and am waiting for it to redownload and reinstall...again.

Arghh, that is frustrating!
Hope the reinstall goes well and you can get back to enjoying the game and crafting a fine build.

Same here! Base game has installed along with one of the expansions...so far. Hoping this is the last time but if it doesn't work I guess I'll be on the phone with tech support again... DX
Oh, btw, I'm pretty close to being able to afford the "Lucky Simoleon Casino" and its slots machines so I'll be able to actually use them in the design when I can finally begin the build. (Lol, I love "Bonus SimPoints" and the ad vids to get them give me something to do while waiting for the download/install. )
Whew...finally! Just want to say thank you @ajaxpost for this competition. This is definitely not the kind of build that I ever would have thought of building before. You definitely pulled me out of my comfort zone - thank you; I really enjoyed it!

- The name of your lot: Seedy Joe's
- A description of the features of the venue: Before downtown was built, Joe's was the hotspot that everyone ventured to. Anyone that was anyone was seen at Joe's on any given night. Friends would become merry over a pint and watch the sport on TV and patrons would quietly sit near the dance floor watching the pianist tickle the ivories, while the blues singer crooned into the night. Joe's was the best place in town for a night out. As downtown developed and more people moved closer to it, a series of events turned Joe's into Seedy Joe's - ownership changed, the crowd got rougher and then there was the boxcar incident which no one speaks about anymore. Now, only the dregs of society would dare to set foot in Seedy Joe's. The dive bar caters to the devious, mischievous, hardknocks, and the ones down on their luck. Known for its bar brawls, loud and boozy chatter, and grungy decor, only brave people would venture into Seedy Joe's if not a regular. Featuring a smoke-filled illicit gambling room (only to be entered from the rear), pool table room, outdoor horseshoe courts, 3 bars, stage, and television area. Built at 9 Cottonwood Ct (30x30 lot). Features
- 3 Slot Machines
- Gambling tables (all three)
- Pool table
- 2 dart boards
- 3 Horseshoe Courts
- Portable Gnubb set
Since I don't have Hidden Springs I can't just go and check out the lots you listed to see what type of look would fit there. The pics and vids that Google is showing me indicate that world has a lot of variation on what its buildings look like. Are you looking for something that would fit better in a business neighborhood or residential neighborhood? Using the smallest of the lots you mentioned, is the narrow end or wide side facing the roadway?
(Figured I may not be able to start the build yet but I can start planning and for that I need info.)

Excellent! Thank you.
You've certainly put a lot of detail into this build (love the backstory), I'm sure going to have fun exploring it.
So pleased to know that I have been able to inspire someone to do something a bit different - there was a 'lot gifting' thread a while ago that I joined and it was so much fun having a go at something you might never have thought of on your own.

Hi, ahh, yes, good questions!
The idea of the world is supposed to be something of an exclusive (and rather expensive) mountain resort town, and most of the residences are either large and expensive or sort of rural retreat in style. Like most worlds the town centre is a mix. I don't have the game to hand at the moment but, as I recall, the locations I've mentioned are either 'just off the centre' commercial areas or little corners just on the outskirts. For this lot I see it fitting more into an old commercial neighbourhood.
Unfortunately I don't remember which side of the lots face the road. But I may be able to provide more pictures/descriptions tomorrow when I can get into the game.
@ajaxpost - I always aim to have a backstory in mind when I build - it makes it more believable for me. I really hope you do have fun exploring as I had a lot of fun putting it all together Once again, thank you for hosting!
Now I can come back to the thread and see what everyone else comes up with!
I may have to go back to using Steam to play rather than Origin even if several of my expansions aren't in it. Not crashing and uninstalling stuff now, instead it is simply not installing them in the first place. Looks like it is but nothing shows in the game and when going back to check the launcher they are back in the Downloads instead of the Installed Content... And I'd even gotten Hidden Springs just for this contest.
Maybe I'll get to enter, maybe not...time will tell.

I like Hidden Springs, it's a beautiful world and has quite a bit of space to add your own lots (as well as some nice CAS and Build/Buy items). Anyway, although you probably don't need it anymore here are the promised pictures of the suggested lots for the build...

Darn, that is annoying, to have all this content and not be able to use it. There is a thread in Store General that describes a good way to reinstall Store content to avoid problems with items disappearing - if you've not seen it I will find the link in a moment.

At the very least that helps me with the planning while I wait.
For the moment I've given up trying to get Sims3 to work with Origin. Switching back to Steam and HOPING it works right there like it used to even if all the expansions I have aren't available.(Downloading through Steam as we speak, good think I don't have any cap to my internet's monthly bandwidth since with all the uninstalls/reinstalls I've probably gone through over 100gb in the last week and a 1/2)
I did save a copy of the expansions folder from the Origin installation of it to my external and am hoping I can just copy/paste them into the Steam installation of the game and have them appear/work. Time will tell.

I will download right away and have a play later today.
Thanks for the tip on the seating, I hadn't noticed that - there's some non-obvious routing on quite a few Store items which can easily catch you out.
Oh, and spooky that I'm using the Vanderburgs for play testing as well! They really work, especially when Sebastian visits in uniform.
