Rod Humble : "you could say we haven’t announced the genre yet"

He worked on Second Life , an online virtual world. So it could be a new online game.

He also worked on Sims 2 + 3...and was friends with Will Wright. His most recent interview told a lot.

The simsgurus have been saying all along that it will be a few more years before they are finished with Sims 4. So, that will probably be around 2023 or 2024.
For players that are anxious for the next Sims version game my suggestion would be to get Paralives when it comes out or be patient & wait until 2025 for an extremely basic new Sims game version with no pets, no University, no City, no Island, no basement, no toddlers, no swimming, no bikes, no boats, no open worlds, no holidays, no season, no ladders, no cool stair tools, no Witches/Wizards, no Vampires, no Aliens,
no Mermaids, no Ghosts & no playable themes.
    BORING!

Sorry to change the subject, but why doesn't Paradox just buy out Paralives? They both have Para in their names. They'd get a lot more funding and the game would come out a lot quicker.

I'm not sure. I wouldn't be directly opposed to such a move, but Paradox has estimatedly been working on their game a little over a year. Alex only announced Paralives about a year ago. It might have been a timing thing. Rod Humble might think he can do it better. Alex may not want to sell. It's anyone's guess, but the irony of 2 different Paras is not lost on me.

A base doesn't have to be boring if they do it right. It is the core of the game, anything else is adding icing. I didn't buy NL or OFB until months and months after the release of those packs for TS2. I think I bought both those on the same day when I saw them in a store. (on sale). Back then people without internet just got stuff when they decided to get it and wasn't actually lining up to get stuff in a sold out line. So, maybe by 2006 I got two new packs for TS2. That says a lot about a basegame core.

It's funny people start saying but they won't have seasons or pets or whatever, but they also knew that when they dropped TS2 or TS3 to move over to TS4 so, I don't see much difference we go into these things with eyes wide open now. It didn't bother players to buy up TS4 without any of those things so I don't see why it would matter now when TS5 is released.

    The Sims 4 rebranding in 2019 + 5-year time horizon (2019 - 2023) = The Sims 5 released in 2024 or 2025
You'll continue to see us think about games on a 5- and 6-year time horizon. The Sims, which launched again over 5 years ago and continues to grow every year through extra content and live services, would be an example of that.

Where is The Sims 5?, It's been 6 years since The Sims 4 came out. We usually get a new Sims game every 4-5 years, but its now 6 years and no real talk of the 5th installment of this game. WHAT GIVES???

Expect atleast 2 more years of TS4 due to the surveys. They still have a lot they want to release. The other iterations didn't have live service TS4 does so it's longer.

@catloverplayer I think a lot of the surveys didn't offer possible ideas for improvement on The Sims 4 but are more likely going to be used in the development of The Sims 5.
Sure, surveys with minor features or SP surveys are made for The Sims 4 but the latest one is really suspicious. They asked us so much about what we want to see changed in the core of the game but those things could take years to change in The Sims 4 and wouldn't profit EA so much, since changing an already "finished" game doesn't make sense.
I'm pretty sure they are using the information from the last survey on The Sims 5.

They've already said that the Sims4 has years of life still left and as tight lipped as they are, I'm pretty sure they mean it.

Plus they have Sims4 on console and other stuff they just started

@SERVERFRA You think it would be boring but getting a better base game could get you all invested again. If the game is made right then it will be better than The Sims 4 with all EPs. We need a better base. The Sims 4 is based on a terrible engine and no matter how many packs you have the game is doomed no matter what.
Getting a new core game would mean more fun for everyone and hopefully more features than The Sims 4 base game. Nobody was complaining when The Sims 3 released. Eventhough it didn't have any of the things you listed when it came out.

So true! I fell IN LOVE with TS3's basegame. I even still play just the basegame on occasion with no other EPs or SPs or Sims 3 Store items or CCs or mods. It's really great!

They can still release those TS4 packs on console concurrently with TS5's release. Also, I think that they're just saying that they have years left for TS4 so that people will keep buying the packs right up until TS5 is announced which could be soon. It's not the first time EA has fibbed about continuing a game only to close it shortly with no previous announcement.

I was introduced to a Simulation Life PC game in 2011 when Sims 3 was already over two years old. I never played any of the previous Sims games before it. I started with Sims 3 Diesel, MasterSuite, LateNite, ShowTime & HighLoft in 2011. So, when I foolishly upgraded to Sims 4 in 2014, I had no idea that it was mostly an empty game.
However, I might consider Sims 5 only after it's been out for at least 4 years, has Seasons, University, some Supernaturals, a City even better & bigger than Bridgeport, the Heartshape Bed, Spiral Stairs, Color Wheel, all Pets, Ladders & all Transportations. Or, I'll just upgrade to the Sims competitions like Paralives & Paradox. Maybe?

Yeah, but TS5 started hiring for it's game (or whatever they are going to call it) in 2017. Do you really believe they will continue to sell packs for TS4 for five more years when TS5 might be way past the half way mark (4 years to build a base) to finish a base? I don't. I think I have heard this four times now, things like we will keep making packs as long as there is an interest, yada, yada, yada, and then one day they just pull the plug and say oh look kids! we have a new game...didn't matter how much 'interest' was still being generated for a current game. Just think about it. TS3 was still selling like hotcakes. Still had years of content requests. Didn't matter. They ended it when they wanted to release TS4 base whether that base was finished or not. Can't believe everything Maxis says. They have said it four times already.

People want games NOW but they complain when the development is rushed.

Maybe The Sims 5 will be released after 2024.

The Sims 4 game engine would of already broken in early 2022. And even IF Sims 4 manage to barely cling to life support until after 2024,most of the fanbase would of gotten sick and tired of Sims 4 and be playing other sim/sandbox games by then, and that would mean death to the Sims franchise. Sims 4 will most likely end in early 2021.

After all,no game series can last forever and ever and ever. Old series need to end to make way for new and exciting series. Soon it will be time for EA to end Sims 4 to give players Sims 5.
Why do you hide inside these walls?

I am getting sick of tired of it xD just saying. It's over stayed it's welcome.
But my point, it is not wise to make it go on that long, people are gonna get annoyed and worn out. (me I already am, so is LGR he said something to that degree in a video of his)

I want to mention something real quick, I was looking into this whole Rod Humble new Simulation at Paradox thing last week and I came across a bunch of forum posts (mostly other sites, one on here) from when he made the switch to Second Life in the early 2010s, and people who seemed to be fans of the Sims franchise were writing some pretty nasty things about him.

It seemed to me that during the Sims 3's life he was poorly regarded by the community (a lot didn't like Grant Rodiek either, whom I haven't seen much recent hate for either), so I'm unsure why people are so excited for him to be working on a new Sims-like game. Apparently that duo was largely responsible for possible/implemented RPG features in TS3, which the community responded harshly to, and didn't follow the spirit of the previous two iterations.

Does anyone know if that was that a minority of the fans at the time, or if his negative reputation largely forgotten by fans after he was gone for a while? It's strange to see all of that but then see people now excited at the prospect.

I think both of these comments hit the nail on the heads. Personally whilst I enjoyed both Sims 3 and Sims 4 I have found the base game lacking. As time has gone on both eras have shown that no matter what shiny add ons you create eventually the problems of the base game will shine through.

For Sims 5 the team really need to look at how Sims 2 nailed it in many ways. The fun quirky parts were charming, the age groups felt balanced and the content was in depth. Whilst The Sims 1 had tons more content, it really felt like there was no going back once you started whereas in Sims 3 and Sims 4 there have always been comparisons to the era before.

After DU came out the Maxis team celebrated the fact that their EPs have covered all the base content (ie Seasons, Pets etc). With The Sims 4 being a live platform they really could do with looking back and seeing where they can improve the base content/EPs (which would cover an entirely new thread in itself.)

I've invested a lot of time in the Sims 4 so I'm happy to keep playing that until they are ready to launch Sims 5. With Paralives on the horizon (and possibly Paradox launching a competitor) they have competition and I'm only willing to leap onto the better platform to "start over".

Sims 4 is the only Sims game I am unsatisfied with (I've played all of them). If Sims 5 is a true Sims game (and is built like that from the beginning) and is good, I will play. If not? Then I'm done with the franchise.

I like improvement in the game like the rest of you. I want Sims 5 too. I think we will complain about why didn't they put this or that in the game. We should thank our lucky stars for what we have. I do wish they would bring the best of what they had in CAS from TS3 and TS4 together and put into Sims 5.

This! I never really complained about the 3 past installments, it's only TS4 that i am VERY disappointed in. LOL Is it so bad that I just want a game that does the 3rd installment a true predecessor.

Well now that Paradox Tectonic is a competitor, of course EA is going to try to put Rod Humble in a bad light. I wouldn't go with what people said back then or now, but look at results: He had direct influence on both The Sims 2 AND The Sims 3 - both of which have very strong gameplay even though they are quite different in so many ways. Both are still beloved and still played to this very day. Also when he was CEO of Second Life, it enjoyed the highest number of members under his term.

So I'm pretty excited about what kind of life simulation game will be released by Paradox Tectonic. And I'm going to try out the game for myself instead of listening to people who want to bring the game down to discourage anyone else from trying it. I think EAxis should just concentrate on making The Sims 5 the best it ever can be and not be cheap with the funding and lazy with the development of features and content. That's the only way to beat the competition.

PS - I STILL don't like Grant Rodiek.
