Hmmm... it depends on the point of view.

"Live service" means the game is stable but is still under development. The players get an early access to the core game.

Right, and if they can sell an unfinished game and slap live service on it, then it won't take five years. (TS4 is a fine example of how to make money on an unfinished, half baked core.)

I agree they are able to do such thing even if it may kill the franchise.

My vote is "Announcement 2022 release 2023".
Grant’s work history clearly shows that he’s made a role switch only when he started working on a whole new Sims Title, including:

The Sims 3 (Lead & Associate Producer) from September 2005 to November 2010
The Sims 4 (Producer & Senior Producer) from 2011 to 2019
    2019... release date : 2023

If Grant is still working for Maxis why was he in Edmonton for a week? Isn't that where Bioware is? Do they use the Frostbite engine?

About Anthem, "Wilson said that in Asia, major online games generally go through a soft launch and multiple community tests before everything goes live, which enables EA to get a better idea of how they'll behave at scale."

A soft launch could mean The Sims 5 may be restricted to a sample of players like they did with The Sims Mobile.
The Sims Mobile was available in Brazil 10 months before the worldwide launch.

The community reaction was negative in 2014 when The Sims 4 was released without Toddler and many other features.

If EA choose a soft launch you may wait a little longer before to play to this new game.

    2025
    because
    1. its sims 5 (idk i just feel like it would feel more epic having that 55)
    2. they still haven't used sims 4 to it's full extent and at this point id feel like they are just jumping off a sinking ship and making a titanic

I still want to see cars, leisure vacations, real babies, casino stuff, hobbies, witches, a farming pack with animals, more small animals/reptiles/birds pack and more wedding and romance stuff before we get a new series.

I'd rather wait for the chance that 5 will have more solid content.

In 2014, Grant Rodiek said "We're not working on Sims 5. We're not thinking about Sims 5. If Sims 4 isn't successful, there won't be a Sims 5.".
In 2018, he said that they are planning TS4 content until 2021, which is basically confirmation that the last TS4 pack will be released in 2021, while TS5 will be released in either 2021 or 2022.

They apparently started early development on TS5 around Q3 2018, which is suggested by the Maxis job postings from September 2018. In April 2019 Grant Rodiek switched roles at Maxis. He's no longer Senior Producer on TS4, but he's working on "other projects not related to The Sims 4", which is most likely TS5. So it'd make sense for the last TS4 pack to come out in at some point in 2021 and depending on that TS5 would be released in either late 2021 or (more likely) mid/late 2022, since they didn't release a main Sims game in Q1 since TS1 - which makes sense, since they could either release it a few months earlier before christmas or a few months later before summer break - it probably won't be the case this time around either. I doubt they'll announce the game before the last TS4 pack is released.

The development of a mainline Sims game usually takes about 4 to 5 years. TS4 was an exception, they changed it from a multiplayer game to an offline game around 2012 and had to play catch up since then, which also explains why they started working on the next iteration later than usual.

TL; DR: TS5 will most likely be released in mid 2022.

Oh, another thing I just remembered: The Sims Mobile was recently transferred from Maxis to Firemonkeys (the developers of The Sims FreePlay), which would free up developers at Maxis to work on something else.

He was working in Edmonton for the week after flying from Hawaii holiday. He's a Maxis Senior Producer now so probably got a more varied job, not only Sims 4.

I think there will be at least 2 years between announcement and release, most likely due to delays.

Can not remember what I voted for though.

I voted for the very latest because, if you think about it, the SimGurus are still producing GP's and EP's and SP's, and still going strong, so if the Sims 5 is there in production, it's probably on the back burner by now.

The only way I'd get a Sims 5 is if it took all the best features from 2,3 and 4 and combined them into the most amazing game we've ever seen. Regardless, I bought 2, 3, and 4 (and expansions) on their release days, and I won't be falling into that same trap for 5. I'll wait until it's out a year and the price has dropped, and the bugs worked out, and THEN I'll play it.

Not actually - Some went to Fire Monkeys Studio with their game. But a few went back to the Sims 4. Don't forget some of our people went to Sims Mobile when it was first coming out - so they are probably the ones that came back to Sims 4. Many of them also worked on previous series. But that did free up the Sims mobile studio possibly for the Sims 5 to be worked on. It's across from the Sims 4 Studio on the Redwood Campus. Of course I don't know for sure though they'd even start on Sims 5 there either. Usually they start the new series some other of EA;s many Studios. It was just a thought.

I think it should be released as late as possible, so they get enough time to work on a really strong basegame. Of course, that is an unrealistic expectation, I'm just dreaming. I think it might be released within the next 2-3 years.

The later the better. Four still has potential and a lot of ironing out to do. They've missed out on a lot, sadly.

I still want as much time as possible with TS4 before TS5 is even announced to be honest. I feel like the game is constantly improving and adding new packs that I'm excited to play with, so I'd hate to see them roll out with a new Sims game so soon.

Considering we're getting Realm of Magic sometime in fall I doubt they'd announce the Sims 5 this year or next. That would be a weird pack to end on. I think at earliest it'll be 2021 announcement and 2022 release.

Like most, unless the base game of the Sims 5 is mind-blowing, I don't see myself making the switch at launch. I didn't buy TS4 until a year after launch and I'm really not in a rush to switch now.
