I knew it wasn't RL, and why, I just didn't feel like wading through pages of posts or waiting to make my post.
When I went to university straight from high school (18 yo here in the US) it was a vocational culinary school and there was no choice of course load. It was full-time from the start. Plus studies, plus a job. We had trimesters rather than semesters. I made it two trimesters before the stress got to me and I quit. But I'd learned my basics and stayed in the field in some form for years. Although mostly I stayed in the front of the house. (Waited tables.)
I wish I'd been able to finish, but my mental health issues, which I weren't yet diagnosed, had grown too excessive. I don't regret it, since I had little control, but I do wish it. As for age, I was amazed then at the fact that classmates were in their 40s. This was a voc school and classes were essentially another job. Once I was that age, I was even more amazed!

There are people of many ages in my program, 20 to 50+, but most are in their mid 20s, so yeah seeing kids 10+ years younger having a schedule half of mine working part time making more money than me is plum

Oh gosh, I really miss the ads. I own the store, but like to gift when I can.
All this talk about school has me reminiscing. Probably happens a lot when you're in you are in your 60s or so. I was a science/math major when I first started college. Always broke, working full time with occasional double shifts at a nursing home. I had a full load, with at least two of the sciences having laboratory hours (physics, chem or bio/med labs). That wasn't so bad. At least I didn't have to walk ~five miles, uphill each way, barefoot in the snow. Back then I rode public buses or my bicycle everywhere. I haven't minded getting older -- it's health stuff that actually has the most impact on quality of life.

When I went to university straight from high school (18 yo here in the US) it was a vocational culinary school and there was no choice of course load. It was full-time from the start. Plus studies, plus a job. We had trimesters rather than semesters. I made it two trimesters before the stress got to me and I quit. But I'd learned my basics and stayed in the field in some form for years. Although mostly I stayed in the front of the house. (Waited tables.)
I wish I'd been able to finish, but my mental health issues, which I weren't yet diagnosed, had grown too excessive. I don't regret it, since I had little control, but I do wish it. As for age, I was amazed then at the fact that classmates were in their 40s. This was a voc school and classes were essentially another job. Once I was that age, I was even more amazed!
