can the 4th gen game just have toddlers? I mean it's the 4th series, there is and shouldn't be a debate about this. it's a simulation game, some people like to have kids in game and raise them. let it be, age the toddler up and get over it. so simple but people just ramble, what for.
Aging them up ain't a solution lol!
Its something that was always there for people who don't want to play them!
Aging them up in TS3 works well unless you don't want a random trait picked for you. Of course you can cheat around it or maybe if they have enough life time points, you can change traits but I think a better option could be provided.
If a baby ages to a toddler, maybe the player has a choice of aging up without any penalty, IE they can choose what ever trait they want or if you do want to play as a toddler and gain skills, those can benefit the Sim later in life, either through gaining skills or socialising/ I suggested this in one of my TS5 ideas threads but the thread never took off.
In fact you could do this with most life stages, no penalty for instant ageing but benefits for those who prolong an age stage therefore both sides could be happy?
All you have to do is put a sim n create a sim to change a trait
Have you never for once downloaded a sim of any age you like of another Simmers creation and hated the traits? But you can change them in less than a minute!
Sorry but that's a silly thing for me to worry about when it can easily be fixed with a cheat then in CAS lol!
Cheats are there for that reason!
In all honestly I haven't downloaded anyone else's Sims since the TS1 days. Nothing against that of course but I am just happy with my own Sims. I do get what you mean though but it is just a shame to have to 'cheat' to get around something

How is it a shame having to cheat to get around a sim in The Sims? Sorry, but that's what we're talking about here. We can start a topic how it's a shame you have to cheat to make your game woman free too. Or how it's a shame you have to cheat to make your sim filthy rich. It should be an option.

That's the first comparison that came to mind, sorry (just as indispensable as toddlers )

You know, I play a ton of games, and I've never seen in ANY other community, the shear number of people advocating for less content/gameplay.
Generally, especially in the sim genre, people want more immersion, more options, more fully realized simulation. For a life sim, this includes all the most visually/developmentally unique stages of a human's life. Among other things, it should include the ability to raise the next generation, and shape the lives of our sims from baby to elder, if we so choose, without having to make giant leaps of imagination to fill in the developmental holes left by a poor design.
In my experience, when people don't like an aspect of a simulation, they accept that there are ways to skip, or cheat past that thing that they don't like without demanding changes (or in this case defending changes) that RUIN the simulation for others.
If you are skipping aspects that are necessary for the simulation to be representative of it's RL counterpart, imo yes, you should have to use cheats/mods. If Maxis removed every feature that one person didn't like, there would be literally nothing left. Therefore, IMO it is in the game dev's best interests to provide as complete a simulation as possible, and leave us cheats/bypasses to skip what parts we are not interested in. Clearly maxis does not share my sentiment.
I for one don't want Maxis making assumptions about what is and is not necessary to make a life sim - LIFE DOES THAT. Is it something everyone sees and experiences as they grow? Is it something that humans need to live? Then it should be in game, whether I or you or any individual likes it or not. The major elements of life should be gamified, and presented in such a way that they are interesting and impactful to the game experience. This includes needs, wants, relationships, interactions, careers, customizable sims and surroundings, genetics and GROWTH. This is how things have worked in the past, this is still how they should work today. Maxis has this habit of reinventing the wheel, and it's just not necessary with this franchise. The basic building blocks of life should be a constant thread tying all the games together, with different themes and mechanics and tech, but always the same core principles upon which the Sims was built.
One of the main reasons that I stand on a soap box when it comes to complete and differentiated life stages is that it is yet another example of Maxis using telemetry to justify cost cutting tactics without any consideration to how those tactics impact the simulation. Time and again they remove rather than improve, and cut features rather than innovate new ones. I imagine them sitting around a conference table going "What can we cut? What can we streamline?? Telemetry is showing that people cheat for money, and needs, so in Sims 5 all sims should have unlimited resources and no needs at all! Great work everyone! Now get out there and get #lessismore trending on twitter!" *Rachel high fives the team*
Where does the simplification stop? Anyone who thinks their favorite playstyle/features are exempt is an absolute walnut. I'm sorry but that's just the truth. When it comes to EA cutting corners, no one is safe. They'll happily cross things off their to-do lists all the while saying how 'tough a call' it was for them. Their priority is not to make the best game possible, it's make the most cost efficient game possible. Sure they'll release statements about how it breaks their hearts to have to leave things out, but in the end they will be wiping their crocodile tears with our money.
I think it is REASONABLE that players expect basic life to be present in a life simulator. Since S2 this has been the case. It was a natural prgression for the genre, and the simplification of babies, removal of toddlers, and lack of differentiation in teens is a regression that should never have been attempted. Fixing this glaring design flaw will not fix everything by any means, but it will fix this one issue which has ballooned to huge proportions. Why has it garnered so much attention? Well because the marketing was deliberately unclear leaving us with a lot of questions that have now gone unanswered for two years. Frustrated? You bet we are. So when someone says 'Gee are you really SURE you want them?' people are bound to get prickl.y. Yes. Many simmers want toddlers. People who expected a life simulator, expected that sims would be able to raise the next generation, and that the act of doing so would have some impact. No, it will not fix other issues within the game but it will fix one thing that is keeping THIS simmer from enjoying herself.
Ehh hello

Really. I don't play my own apart from my avi and a few others that I share. But I am a terrible female sim creator but love playing with others sims!
I couldn't managed a fun game without our fellow simmers sims to replace some of the pre made and the odd few family's of my own.
If you don't like downloading others sims that's cool. it's your game after all and if your happy using your own that's all that Matter's.
They made it so easy to change the trait's I personally don't mind if I aged up a baby! And had a bad trait!
To Cheat to change traits is so miner to me with others But this is why we have cheats so we have annother option!
I do understand what you mean though. If we did not have to cheat would be great.I just don't see it as a problem for me!
Cheats are a big part of a sims game and have been from the sims 1
Building cheats for example I use every time I build.
I don't really see a cheat to change a sims in CAS like say using motherlode or cheats for skills. Some cheats are just tools to improve parts of my game without me really thinking of them as cheats!

I actually avoid using any cheats in The Sims these days, I do have 'workarounds' if money is needed such as moving a Sim into a household to add money and then removing them, just a tactic of mine
Other cheats I use for movies only, but I class that as separate to playing as they are temporary save files and I will teleport Sims around or change there moods if needed but I wouldn't do that in my actually main saves.
Other than that I might use a cheat if a Sim gets stuck as I have noticed a minor routing issue in Roaring Heights where a Sim gets stuck by the bistro and will try to get a boat and then come back onto the ground which might be a minor off shoot to IP when Sims started using boats to get around water.
But back in the days of TS1, I was an awful cheat!

That is the article that tricked me, I'm sorry, convinced me to buy ts4. Maybe I was being too optimistic but it appeared to me that toddlers were delayed, not cut entirely. It's been so long now without word on them that it's difficult to think we weren't deliberately misled. That is why there's so many complaints about them, that's why you see this sense of entitlement within the community. They left the toddler issue hanging, and the community inferred that they had been, and would continue to work on them. Now, we have other simmers saying that we should be patient and not expect toddlers quickly because age stages can take over a year (citation needed) to make. Well I thought they were already being worked on before launch, and so if the silence now is an indicator that they never even started them then yea, I'm mad. That would have been relevant info they should have shared with fans so that we could curb our expectations. Frankly, I think it was cruel and unusual for ea to leave everything up to speculation and guess work.

Completely and utterly agree. They could have said 'don't expect toddlers in the first couple of years' even if they are working on them. They played on people's loyalty and said it was just a case that they ran out of time. They then announced the reintroduction of pools, ghosts and careers which signalled they intended to make good on finishing the base. Then the excuses kept changing. Next it's telemetry.

Oh, believe me, I understand. I feel the same way. It was deliberately implied that "everything we desired" would be added in future EP's. I'm pretty upset over the way the entire launch was handled. I haven't purchased anything else since I quit playing last October and went back to TS3. I know I will never pre-order anything else created by Maxis again.
There's nothing wrong with liking TS4, so my feelings concerning the game aren't directed at anyone else. I just feel ripped off and on top of that, I couldn't even give the game away to someone that wanted it because it's tied to my Origin account.
Most and foremost how do you all even know there will be a SIMS 5...
Nobody here does not know can only speculate.

Sooo true, I would have loved to sell the game, since all I really use is CAS and I could have just used the free demo for that tbh. That is just a symptom of a larger problem in the industry where all games seem to be moving toward this idea that you 'license the game', you don't buy it. I really don't like that, and I lament that it is becoming more and more prevalent.
The other new-fangled thing that ts4 is suffering from utilizing is this whole idea of a subscription service game. This concept that the game will grow and change every month as it is patched doesn't sit well with me when dealing with a single player experience. I don't mind if the game is truly subscription based, like WoW, or Free to Play like LoL... but that's not, nor has it ever been what the sims is. I don't think I've ever seen a AAA single player game outside of alpha phase promise that the game will improve with updates every month, and to my eyes it's just more spin to cover the fact that the game wasn't where they wanted/needed it to be on release. If they totally want the sims to take that route and be a subsription service, they need the communication structure in place so that people can see what it is they are subscribing to! It's crazy to me that they expect us to sit back, trust them, and continue to invest when they havent so much as hinted at a road map. What am I buying, EA? Some of these packs look like something I'd like to have in game in the long run, but if I'm not sure what the game will BE in the long run, how am I to justify continued investment?? They're robbing themselves by adhering to this policy of silence, I'd be a happy paying customer if only I had some assurances that the game will add back in and address many of the issues commonly mentioned here on these forums.
I know it's not in the dev's hands to decide what they can and can't say, but if EA really wants to put players first, they need to understand that players need more than just a hope and a prayer that the game will eventually include their style of play. If they want me to invest, I want to see developer diaries, I want to see a road map, I want to have a vague idea that they KNOW certain features aren't working as intended and that they are workin on a fix. Ideally I want to see them come to the community looking for feedback on how and why features should be fixed. I think the community would respond really positively if we felt that our input was being used to help guide the game's development. Currently, I have a really hard time believing that they 'are listening' to a darn word we say. If someone said that about my company I would be so embarrassed. One of the number one things to breed customer loyalty is to make your customers feel listened to. For a wildly successful company it's really sad to see that no one seems to believe in the simple and tangible value of a relationship with their most passionate customers. I just don't know why they act like they're afraid of us. Yes if they give us really confusing and divisive info we will tear at each other like wolves, but that is easily solved! Don't be vague and divisive! Be clear and direct and open to suggestions! Have an employee on hand to clear up confusion who is not gagged by an overly strict NDA!
Look at culling for example. They said that they don't like how it's working and they are looking into ways to mitigate it. That's awesome! Did the sky fall when they said that?! No!! The world kept turning. They made some tweaks - that didn't solve much - but it was like an olive branch, which earned them my patience on that matter. A few simple sentences! That's all! Just knowing that culling is on their radar in no uncertain terms was very positive. Now, I know they say 'we hear you', in regard to toddlers, but if it's not followed up by "and here's what we're doing about it," then I'm just not interested anymore. I'm personally past the point of placation. (Say that ten times fast...) I need to hear about the development process, vaguely how far out we are from completion...and you know what? A darn apology for the wait would go a long way too! Sheesh, I get an apology from my barista if I have to wait 5 minutes, why is it 'sorry' seems to be such a foreign word at EA headquarters?! Maybe I'm just too Canadian for my own good.
At this point, we don't know that there will be a Sims 5, but if there is one, we probably won't like it...and it'll probably only be available on mobile or tablet.
EA Marketing Department Motto:
"We Don't Care If You LIKE The Game, Just As Long As You BUY The Game!"
I Disapprove (Naturally) I Took The Pledge!
Even if a Sims 5 is published, and even if it's made for PC (I also fear that it will be pushed to mobile or tablet), who's to say that it will be the game we've been hoping for? Right now I don't have much confidence that those in charge have learned from their major mess ups in Sims 4. If they don't communicate with us about Sims 4 (both our frustrations with the game and our wants), how can we be sure that they'll communicate with us and listen to what we want for Sims 5?
My concern is that if there is a Sims 5, it will be more of their "vision." Something that so far, I'm not terribly impressed with.
If Sims 5 is on a tablet, I've got a good one already waiting for it.
"That person who helps others simply because it should or must be done, and because it is the right thing to do, is indeed without a doubt, a real superhero." - Stan Lee
Maybe, EA removed toddlers from The Sims 4 because some people were complaining about how annoying toddlers were in previous installments. I guess EA thought that they were doing some of the players a favor by removing toddlers.

In all honestly I haven't downloaded anyone else's Sims since the TS1 days. Nothing against that of course but I am just happy with my own Sims. I do get what you mean though but it is just a shame to have to 'cheat' to get around something
Woman free?
Still nobody mentions if the game engine is really stable to handle toddlers *facepalm*
This is what I remember a guru stating...
“And while we recognize that some of you will be disappointed that pools and toddlers won’t be available when The Sims 4 Base Game launches in September, you should know that we’re building an incredibly strong foundation that is capable of fulfilling every one of your desires in the years to come. The future of The Sims 4 is bright!”
What's that suppose to be? Cause I'm confused, very .
