I started on my home but not even sure if what I did was allowed lol.
I tried my hand at a Victorian style home but I think it turned into something else...maybe Gothic Victorian? I don't even know :P but I wanted to do a wrap around porch but I attempted with the space given but the home itself was too small so I put down flooring in the areas I wanted the porch to go and than so it didn't seem like it was just floating there I added a fence along the edge for support...is it allowed? of course that's only if you understood my explanation lol.
maybe I'll attempt a different style Victorian is not my best work, I don't think, but thought I'd challenge myself lol.
I think it looks great @cmbaker16. Altough you were going for victorian it looks more like a farm house. Try adding towers and round some of the corners with the / \ from the foundation. For the porch, if that is allowed you can add a 1/2 wall instead of the fence if you want it in closed looking.
WIPs and inspiration pictures are looking great. I've got an idea for mine but I need to get the foundation into my game to see if it will work out. Hopefully, I'll be able to start tonight, although I have to do some chores first
I might give this a try. I got my new PC (finally), but I am on a wireless adaptor for the internet and it is taking FOREVER just to install TS3 base game. I think the expansion packs & stuff packs might go a bit faster if & when the base game finishes installing. Grr!
@Rosemow Thanks. I am almost done, but it has taken me basically most of the afternoon.
@Ciane I am installing from disks, what was taking forever is the times it has to communicate with the server to update the disk, game, etc. I finally got it hardwired using an ethernet cable because I have no patience!! Almost done and then I can download the foundation. I have been looking at home styles so I have been entertained while I install TS3.
My build is coming along very well. I'm doing Mediterranean/ Neo-Mediterranean style architecture and having a lot of fun doing it. Here's some inspirational photos and my WIP.
What I've learned about the style is that:
Exterior siding is usually stucco, and the colors are a white, cream, salmon, and sometimes a grey.
Roof is tile and are shallow with slopes.
Mediterranean style incorporates details from Spain, Italy, and Greece, Morocco, and the Spanish Colonies.
Arches above doors, windows, or porches
Heavy carved wooden doors
The style is very elegant and has a "By the Sea" feel to it (tropical)
Your inspiration pictures are very nice @mrkabean! The domed roofing in the staircase picture is very nice! The roof beams in the living room photo is very nice too! Your WIP is looking very nice! Very nice exterior of the house! The roofing looks great! Nice types of windows that you have used. The front balcony looks great, and very nice front entrance.
Enjoy working on your build
I think this is a great idea for a contest! I can't wait to see how everyone is inspired to use the provided foundation, which is quite an interesting shape.
I think I am going to enter I started working on a Victorian-style home inspired by the house from the movie, "Practical Magic." This is my inspiration pic:
@cmbaker I love all the colors you've used so far! I almost feel like it could be a Farmhouse Victorian home with the fencing you have chosen, but I could definitely see it going in the gothic Victorian direction. Either way it looks great!
@mrlabean, you definitely have nailed the Mediterranean style. It feels very tropical and I would love to vacation there I think the ivy in the corner really adds a nice touch as well.
Just stopping by to give a lil bump. I'm making good progress on mine. I just need to stop changing things and I'd be done by now! lol I just can't make up my mind on somethings and finding new things to add. Darn Google!!!!
