This makes me wonder what the time was between the releases of the base game and the first EPs for previous installments of The Sims.

If you really want to know, just google sims wikipedia. You will get a good history of the game. The exact dates of release for the various packs isn't in the wikipedia, but I'm sure if you googled a specific pack, you could easily get that information. It's a good read to get a good historical picture of how The Sims franchise evolved from the original in 2000 to the present day The Sims 4.

Let the Unreal Engine 5 hype commence.

Not much can be realised within a span of 24 hours apart from people taking existing projects and dropping them into the new engine to see how the headline technologies perform. I will say the main demo gives me Sims 3 Al Simhara vibes.

With The Sims being an architecture focused game, for academic discussion I’ve spotted early demos that set the precedent for what a next-gen Sims could look like:

Unlike the recent Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition, Lumen doesn’t exclusively rely on hardware raytracing by default to achieve global illumination. Nanite was also tested on an HDD and seems to work just fine, opening the door to expansive highly detailed worlds with zero loading screens.

I'll still play with my existing game for the foreseeable future but I am interested to hear about what will be next. We're reaching a point where I think a graphics update and new engine might make sense. I'm still interested in content for my current game. If I go to 5, I might not jump right away as I'm always someone who waited until there was more content out in the past.

If 5 is a multiplayer game or monthly subscription, I don't know that it'll be for me. If there are two concurrent formats running and one is the traditional single player style, I'll consider that. If they keep updating 4, I'll be open to that for my existing game. Adding more to make this entertaining is very welcome.

I'll only make decisions based on actual content and what I have time or money for.

After buying darn near everything for TS3 the moment it came out my strat changed drastically with TS4. The only thing I bought that wasn't on sale was Vampires. I felt no urgency or anticipation for things like Seasons and Pets which should have literally been part of the game at release rather than being used as a lazy way to milk more money out of us later after we'd all been used to having them. And then to have them be half baked is unforgivable. I guess we're never getting horses. But then again what would be the point in the ridiculously tiny neighborhoods we have in TS4 after being robbed of TS3's open world?

So will I buy TS5? Yes, IF:
We have a truly open world once again.
    We have seasons.
    We have pets.
We have a co-op mode (NOT an MMO).
That's my baseline. Otherwise, I'll do what I have done with TS4...give EA about half as much money if any at all. Because if it's just TS4 with prettier graphics I think I'm out this time.

While it is a great pleasure to observe and consider all these technological innovations, sometimes it’s necessary to forget about all of that and allow yourself to be mesmerised that this is where we are with real time graphics compared to just 3 years ago.

I think we’ve finally reached the endgame for graphics.

People see Sims 3 through rose-tinted glasses - they play it with computers that outstrip its needs, or perhaps they're playing it with the same computers and trying to play the heavier Sims 4 too, and comparing them inappropriately,

Of course Sims 4 should be complete. Of course it shouldn't have bugs. It should come with integrated Seasons and each new world has so few building lots I could cry, filled out with shells of buildings and beautiful landscaping we can't touch. We've told Maxis we'd pay for empty large new worlds. Instead we get tiny villages like Strangerville and Forgotten Hollow.

But I don't trust that to improve with Sims 5. If anything, every lot will have to be bought in a microtransaction, and Kits are an exploration into how much people will pay for microtransactions.
Prepping a list of mods to add after Infants are placed into the game. Because real life isn't 'nice'.

Please, ANYTHING would be better than TS4. I would think EA/Maxis learned their lesson and would make sure that TS5's base game would have a stronger engine than that piece of crap TS4 was built on. It would make adding new game features to the game much easier than what the devs had to go through with TS4's crappy engine.

So while I don't welcome the online multiplayer features that TS5 will have, I also have no doubt that TS5 would be better technically than TS4. Also I can't wait for EA to crap all over TS4 just to get people to buy TS5, only this time, it's well deserved.

Not that the Sims 4 isn't in many ways unplayable but you know this is getting off-topic.
Where's my Sims 5 squad at?

I agree with you 100%. Hopefully the Sims 5 base game will have worlds inspired by USA, Japan, Africa and France.

About six-eight months before a release of an EP after a base game. They have already planned and worked on an expansion of some sort long before the base game ever gets released (in all the versions) except maybe The Sims original game. The three games listed for TS4 on the premium service seen in the sneak peek trailer (before release) were OR, Spooky Day, and something else, can't remember. Usually they have already laid out plans of what the next two or three add ons will be.
