Hi guys, I'm currently having the same issue with my Sims 4. It has worked absolutely fine, I do live streams and lets plays with it and I have had no issues. However, I now get the same error message others are getting with the video card error. Whenever the game is in the natural resolution of 1920x1080, my monitor supports this and it's what I have been using ever since I got the Sims 4.
'unable to start:
Can't run The Sims 4 with the video card in this system. Please check that the video card meets the minimum specifications and that the latest video drivers are installed.
[0e6d1221:1d4e8dc:80010000:00000000]'
As I mentioned, this is a recent development. I last played it on January 28th and it was fine, I then tried to open it yesterday and it failed with this error message. I bought The Sims 4 Cats & Dogs in the Origin sale, and I can't play it. I've never had issues with it running up until now, so it's very frustrating.
I'm currently reinstalling the latest drivers just in case.
Try turning off origin in-game and see if that helps. To do that, go,to Game Library in Origin . Right click on The Sims 4 picture. Click on “Game Properties”. Then untick the box that enables origin in-game
Hi @Rosemow, I turned off Origin in Game but that didn't help.
I did try it in Windows mode, however it goes down to 1360x768 (which is my recommended resolution) and then it won't let me put it back up to 1920x1080. It probably doesn't sound like much of a problem because it works in windowed mode, but I do all my recording and streaming at 1920x1080, and I can't get it to work with it any more :( it's always been fine at the max resolution, so I'm not sure what has suddenly changed.
I always had it at 1920x1080 and refresh rate of 30, but I noticed I only have default and 60 in refresh rate in there.

I'm playing on a pc, I have it set to my graphics card. I don't think I have any other in there, following that tutorial, I don't have the option to select the preferred graphics processor for this program. It's just decided that it no longer likes that resolution for whatever reason.
I hope these images appear, so you can see.
These were the settings I was playing on just last week, and they've been like this ever since I got the game
display type - fullscreen resolution - 1920x1080 refresh rate - 30 vertical sync - off graphics quality - ultra sims - very high objects - high lighting - very high reflections - high visual effects - high edge smoothing - high 3d scene resolution - high view distance - high uncompressed sim textures - off post processing effects - on laptop mode - off
and this is what it's set to now, but I can only access that from windows mode and then I set it to fullscreen mode

If I try put it into 1920x1080, it comes up with this.
'Unable to save display mode options, changes will be reverted to previous settings.
I'm not sure what else to do :( I've had no trouble with it until now, and I've had to put off Live streams for my new series for cats & dogs, so it's incredibly frustrating :(
I did a DxDiag as well, I've never done one of these before. Let me know if there is anything I am missing that you need to see.

This will probably sound stupid, but I'm not actually sure. Maybe that's why, how would I find out if I have another one? I get really confused with hardware and all that side of computers.

I will ask @phoebebebe13 to help you with what the DXDiag is saying about the graphics cards, when she comes onto the forums.
Apologies for the late reply, I got fed up with it last night after. After doing a clean install of the graphics drivers for my Nvidia card, it is still coming up with the error.
I did have a thought regarding the two separate resolutions. I have two monitors, that are not at the same size. Could the DXDiag be looking at those for the resolutions? It's just a thought, but it's never done it before, so I'm not sure why it would start now. Hopefully it's just a simple fix that I'm missing.
Sorry to be a bother, I'm still getting the error message. I've tried all the solutions suggested and tried looking for others, I'm not sure why it is still doing it. Is there anything else I can try?
It only happens on 1920x1080, I've never had any issues with that resolution until now. It started after an origins update, not even a Sims 4 update.

Test each monitor as your main, and see if one likes the 1080 resolution. Having both already hooked up, it's just a matter of switching in settings which the game will load on.

Hi Rosemow
I tried removing origin and my second monitor, still the same issue.
I've also been on EA chat, and they asked for the DxDiag and an MSInfo and they went through it and said there shouldn't be any reason as to why it won't load at that resolution. The graphics card is more than capable and the graphics drivers are up to date. They suggested a few things, like play in offline mode, reinstall origin but it's still the same. I don't know why this would help, but they suggested creating a new admin user, and seeing if the problem persists on that new user.
That shouldn't be a thing though, if it was working perfectly fine for years, at the settings they chose and it's able to run it at whatever resolution, then it shouldn't just force you to use windows mode, just so you can get into the game. If I can't get it to work, I'm going to have to but it's too close and looks horrible with my screen at that resolution.
Thank you for your help though Rosemow and ChelleJo!

I have noticed that in the Nvidia Control Panel in the 3D settings. I don't have the option to select the preferred graphics processor for this program and I don't have the option to add "run with graphics processor" to Context menu.
I've done multiple clean installs of the drivers, which is apparently what might cause this. This might be the issue maybe? Does any one know how to get these options to appear.

Hello
I will ask @DeKay and @phoebebebe13 if they may be able to help you when they come onto the forums. They may be able to offer help.
Ok after a week and many hours of raging, I finally got it working!
This might help anyone else that gets this error. What I did
- Open the sims explorer's properties (C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 4\Game\Bin) right click ts4_64.exe - Go to the compatibility tab - At the bottom there is an option that says 'Disable full-screen optimisations' tick the box next to it and save the settings. - Now it should run perfectly
Thank you for all the help I got over the last week, it's been so stressful getting that to work again. But I'm so happy I got it up and running!

It is great that your game is working now! It is helpful to know what you did.

You beautiful person you, It's finally working again thanks to you!
Here's what I've tried:
1. Since I apparantely have a Radeon AMD card I went to this link and tried to follow the directions. https://sims4.crinrict.com/en/2014/09/graphics-cardintel-chip-dual-systems/
But when I right click, this option doesn't pop up. What does pop up is the option to choose AMD Radeon graphics. So I've clicked on that. I don't see the options it tells me to click through, but I added TS4 under games. I get the same error.
2. I turned off Origin in game. Same error.
3. I updated the game.
4. I right clicked and repaired the game. Same error.
I feel like it's possible the game is trying to read from a chip instead of a card, and I don't know how to change that. I tried following this thread https://sims4.crinrict.com/en/2014/09/graphics-cardintel-chip-dual-systems/ but I don't have the "Configure switchable graphics" on the options that show up. I don't even know how to tell if this meets minimum requirements as the minimum requirements just list names of cards and processors. I don't know what that means.

Hello @TheeDrewGamer
Try turning off origin in-game and see if that helps. To do that, go,to Game Library in Origin . Right click on The Sims 4 picture. Click on “Game Properties”. Then untick the box that enables origin in-game
Try starting the game in windowed mode
https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/the-sims/the-sims-4/playing-the-sims-4-in-windowed-mode
Repairing the game may help. To do that, go to games library in Origin, right click on the sims 4 picture and click repair

If you are playing on a laptop, make sure that your game is using your graphics card

I'm playing on a pc, I have it set to my graphics card. I don't think I have any other in there, following that tutorial, I don't have the option to select the preferred graphics processor for this program. It's just decided that it no longer likes that resolution for whatever reason.
I hope these images appear, so you can see.
These were the settings I was playing on just last week, and they've been like this ever since I got the game
display type - fullscreen
resolution - 1920x1080
refresh rate - 30
vertical sync - off
graphics quality - ultra
sims - very high
objects - high
lighting - very high
reflections - high
visual effects - high
edge smoothing - high
3d scene resolution - high
view distance - high
uncompressed sim textures - off
post processing effects - on
laptop mode - off
and this is what it's set to now, but I can only access that from windows mode and then I set it to fullscreen mode
display type - fullscreen
resolution - 1360x768
refresh rate - default (but can be changed to 60)
vertical sync - off
graphics quality - ultra
sims - very high
objects - high
lighting - very high
reflections - high
visual effects - high
edge smoothing - high
3d scene resolution - high
view distance - high
uncompressed sim textures - off
post processing effects - on
laptop mode - off
If I try put it into 1920x1080, it comes up with this.
'Unable to save display mode options, changes will be reverted to previous settings.
I'm not sure what else to do :( I've had no trouble with it until now, and I've had to put off Live streams for my new series for cats & dogs, so it's incredibly frustrating :(

I will ask @phoebebebe13 to help you with what the DXDiag is saying about the graphics cards, when she comes onto the forums.

I'm going to try do a custom installation on my driver again, and do a clean installation. See if that fixes the issue.
It only happens on 1920x1080, I've never had any issues with that resolution until now. It started after an origins update, not even a Sims 4 update.
Hello
Try uninstalling and reinstalling origin and see if that helps the issue.
https://help.ea.com/en-in/help/origin/origin/manually-uninstalling-origin/
Also, try only using the one monitor and see if the issues remain then.
Sometimes simmers find that though previously they could use a higher resolution, they then need to use a lower resolution and use windowed mode.

I am sorry that you are having this iissue

I have noticed that in the Nvidia Control Panel in the 3D settings. I don't have the option to select the preferred graphics processor for this program and I don't have the option to add "run with graphics processor" to Context menu.
I've done multiple clean installs of the drivers, which is apparently what might cause this. This might be the issue maybe? Does any one know how to get these options to appear.
Hello
I will ask @DeKay and @phoebebebe13 if they may be able to help you when they come onto the forums. They may be able to offer help.

This might help anyone else that gets this error. What I did
- Open the sims explorer's properties (C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 4\Game\Bin) right click ts4_64.exe
- Go to the compatibility tab
- At the bottom there is an option that says 'Disable full-screen optimisations' tick the box next to it and save the settings.
- Now it should run perfectly
Thank you for all the help I got over the last week, it's been so stressful getting that to work again. But I'm so happy I got it up and running!
It is great that your game is working now! It is helpful to know what you did.

You beautiful person you, It's finally working again thanks to you!
Here's info on my device:
Brand new HP Pavillion Power Desktop 580-1xx, Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 1700 Eight Core Processor
Name: Radeon TM RX 550
Chip Type: AMD Radeon Graphics Processor (0x699F)
Radeon info:
Software: 17.1.1, Crimson ReLive, Radeon RX 550
