@campincarl55 Your welcome and glad windowed mode helped. If you invest in a new TV or monitor your card can handle 1080 resolution ;)

It was actually already trying to launch in windowed mode. Even changed it to fullscreen and no go

Hello @Brunhild If you haven't already tried this, try turning off origin in-game and see if that helps. To do that, go,to Game Library in Origin . Right click on The Sims 4 picture. Click on “Game Properties”. Then untick the box that enables origin in-game

Origin is disabled. That post might be too old, but I don't have any of those options. There's no way for me to prioritize the AMD card because it looks like it already has..

    Hello @Brunhild
Try uninstalling and reinstalling origin and see if that may help with the issue.

I've played hours upon hours of Sims 4 and Sims Medieval on this laptop with few problems. I recently downloaded Sims 3 again and was enjoying it thoroughly when I suddenly got the video card not recognized error when trying to start up Sims 3. Now ALL the Sims games give a similar error and won't start. I've tried repairing the game, turning off Origin in-game. I'm stumped. All help would be appreciated! Here's my dxdiag info:

    Hello @LibrarianBabe
You need to update your Nvidia graphics drivers. Go to your laptop manufacturers site, search for your laptop model and then update your drivers.
Also, make sure that your laptop is using the Nvidia card

Thank you! But unfortunately I haven't been able to get my NVIDIA settings to open. And when I right-click on the desk top it doesn't even show up as an option now that I tried and failed to install the latest driver. I'm really lost as to what to do next.

    Hello
You may need to go to the Nvidia site and try installing the latest version of the drivers from there.
The link to the site is

I really appreciate your help. I pretty much re-installed NVIDIA and updated the driver - now I can get Sims Medieval and Sims 4 to work again. I had deleted Sims 3 in frustration, but hopefully it will work again now. Thank you. Your advice helped solve the problem.

Recently I bought a new computer, so I switched from a laptop to a Desktop. After I downloaded The Sims 4, the "Unable to Start:" problem popped up. I played fine on the laptop, have been for about a year now but ever since I downloaded the Sims 4 on this new Desktop, I haven't been able to play. I unchecked the "Origin In-game" but it still popped up with the same message; "Unable to Start:"

    Help is much appreciated

    Hello @Lxnxi__
Make sure that your graphics drivers are uptodate

If the issue remains, try starting the game in windowed mode
    https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/the-sims/the-sims-4/playing-the-sims-4-in-windowed-mode

If you still have issues after doing these things, could you please post your DxDiag info here.
To gather a DXDIAG on your computer, do this :
Press and hold the Windows key and the letter R on your keyboard
You will see a Run box in the lower-left corner of your screen
Type dxdiag in the text field
    Click OK
Click the Save All Information button, found on the bottom of the DXDIAG report
Then copy and paste the information from where you saved it, to pastebin https://pastebin.com
and post the link to the file here

    Hello everyone

I have been playing the Sims 4 for over 100 hours and recently updated as well as installed toddler stuff. This morning I got the "Unable to start: Can't run The Sims 4 with the video card in this system. Please check that the video card meets the minimum specifications and the latest video drivers are installed " message.

I have tried turning off origin in game, it doesn't work either.

@dancup Your laptop does not meet requirements to run the game. Every time you add something to this game (even just a patch) can do your computer in to where the game will not longer play. Your computer no longer meets the requirements to run the game why your game will no longer start. EA has mandatory patching so you can't remove the patch to where your game would play before. You can't upgrade a video card or processor in a laptop. You are stuck with the specs you buy. I'm afraid you would need a new computer to continue playing the game. This game requires a mid range gaming desktop. Laptops are weaker than desktop. You can not compare laptop hardware to desktop hardware unless you have a much higher end gaming laptop. If your in the market for a new computer we can help you find one that meets requirements if you post your country and budget.
