Have you finished a 10 generation Legacy? (or more)

I am really trying my hardest to finish a legacy but it seems that no matter what I do I get to the point where my founder is elderly and I don't want them to die haha. I also probably never finish one because I always try to write a story about it. Have you ever finished one?

They are never really gone even when they die. Keep their graves and you can still socialise with their ghosts.

I like the random legacy, but often restart when we get new packs. I also like playing rotationally in my main game. I play the premades to it takes a while for generations to advance.

Yeah I guess you're right, I was mostly playing the sims 3 up until a couple of weeks ago so maybe I might get further this time knowing that

Also I keep trying to write a story and maybe I get overwhelmed by it. I take a lot of screenshots and I think if I get too far I restart because I can't remember what happened lol

I used to like writing stories a lot more with the sims 2 where you could basically write the story in game as you play

I have a legacy challenge save in TS4 but it's only gen 3 I think? In another save, on short lifespan, I'm on gen 7 or so (wanted to make it to gen 10 at least once). Overall I prefer rotational play and got kind of bored with both of those. I like breeding sims and I like the beginning where there's a challenge but after that it's not much fun.

In TS2 I made it about half way through... It was better there because it was part of my regular play but in TS4 sims gain skills even when you don't play them so challenge needs to be done in a separate save. I've pretty much given up playing legacy style. Eventually there might be a very long family line in my rotation but I'm not aiming for it on a purpose.

I've only just done it though, and not following the 'traditional rules', I made up my own. But I'm on generation 13 of my first legacy family (I only ever got to gen 3 or 4 before this). I think the secret for me has been to try and mix it up a bit in terms of stories and character traits. I usually play the same sims over and over, but this time I've made them all a bit different, or randomised a few things which has kept my interest. I also use the normal life span and 7 day seasons so it feels like each sim life is long enough to do what I need to but speedy enough to not get too attached to each sim :) Now weirdly when I think of playing a different family it feels wrong! So I think I'll be playing this legacy for a while!! :D

I've tried a couple of times in the past, but I always get too attached to my founder sim.

I have played a file that is currently on generation 12. It helps that I decide when the child is a teen who will be the next heir. That way, I can start fresh and attach to a new sim. I only focus on one sim when playing, so I usually have them almost maxed before becoming an adult. Once the main sim has achieved what I set them to do, I focus on the next heir and let full autonomy rule the previous generation. It keeps the game fresh and not so boring.

Once, in sims 2. Every generation got a new expansion to keep things interesting.
I want to play ALL the premade families! One day...

I’ve tried Legacy style play, where I set out with no cheats and the aim of playing through generations many, many times.
I have always got to generation three maximum.

I’ve had a tonne of fun trying all sorts of Sims. They’ve lived in apartments, they’ve lived in Willow Creek and Oasis Springs; once one Sim literally began with NO home.
They’ve had all sorts of jobs/careers and different personalities and styles.

I think some of the problems are
    - I get distracted with new ideas
    - I get distracted with real life and give up the game, sometimes for months and then I end up starting over when I return
    - For a long time I didn’t want to let my precious Simmies die
    - Stories and story blogs are actually hard to maintain
    - All my Sims to date have ended up being ‘perfect’ parents who raise gorgeous little munchkins and they all want for nothing. Something about that has been too much the same from game to game to make it super appealing to continue with the kiddos (weird, I know)

Getting there. I'm currently in Gen 6 with my legacy save. Gen 7 are still in child/toddler stage respectively.

Finished and wrote a story about it. I'm on gen 15. It's my one and only save since the release of S4. I could be way ahead in generations but I take my time with them :) Not gonna post the link as it contains inappropriate things. I guess I can give links privately if anyone's interested but there's not that much of interesting things in it. Just documenting my sims' lives.

Not yet, haven't had time. I haven't played Sims 4 for very long, my sims have custom lifespan that is bit longer than normal (I don't follow all the challenge rules), and my first family was lost when my computer had a melt down and I had to wipe my hard drive :( My new family is gen 5 atm so it's getting there. And I definitely learned to backup my saves.

Haven’t in S4 but with Nraas mods and errortrap/overwatch I did in S3 and it was the most fun I’ve had in a long time.

I remember when I got to about the 7th or 8th generation, one night I scrolled over to the town graveyard where I laid all my previous generations to rest while my current generation slept. In the graveyard I saw the ghost of my second generation building a snowman with the ghost of their great grandchild! Snapped lots of pics and had an absolute blast.

The question didn't specify the exact game, so technically it's a yes. I finished a Sims 2 legacy, which took me five years.

I'm also in generation 8 of my TS3 legacy, which I should really finish soon because I started it in 2015

I'm on Generation 4 (children) of Pinstar's Legacy Challenge, with a total of 73 points so far.

I have reached house 11, so far, of the drifter challenge, which is a legacy of sorts, you just start over with each new heir in a new house with zero funds and new goals. But, my house 11 heir can trace his lineage all the way back to house 01 founder, Anna Schmitt.

Mind you, I wasn't yet playing this iteration of the Sims everyday, as I did both Sims2 and even Sims3 (despite my love/hate relationship with 3). I chose to bring my singer Sim into Sims4 and created, I thought, a fantastic backstory as to why he found himself in the circumstances a Founder must begin. I was having a great time, with the curves the game threw at me. Mind you, this was shortly after the game was released. Pinstar had just released his rules for Sims 4. We didn't have much of a way to distinguish the ages of our Sims, either. Turns out, the Sim my Founder fell for was much older than she professed, or looked like. Immediately after they said their "I do's" she aged up to Elder. Not a great start to a legacy.

I found myself in a true quandary. Do I quit and start again? (Rules stipulate you go with what happens.) Or do I put aside my core Values this time to preserve what I started? I chose door number 2. He had a girlfriend prior to his interest in the one he married. She was still his friend and confidant. In the course of discussing his situation, she made a bold offer.

Ultimately, he brought her in to live with his old hag of a wife and himself. Things were going great, my blog was on fire. I was having a blast. Then I made a mistake that scuttled the whole thing. The choice I made for choosing an heir came back to bite me in the behind. Neither of the three sons had the Trait, to be heir. I had the eldest move out, to make room for the couple to an additional child. MISTAKE. They had twin daughters. The rules state you can't move the heir out of the lot. I had it in my head I would simply go back and find my Founder's wife again and have the two restart their family. That's when I learned that the walk-by Sims were totally random and they didn't repeat.

That was the end of it.

I took almost a full year before deciding to give it another go. I still wanted to use my Founder, as I really liked his backstory. So, I did. Sadly, the events weren't as interesting, but all-in-all, I did stick with it and I blogged about it. I was able to finish it, too.

If you're curious, you can read it here: https://galacticgals.blogspot.com/2014/09/chapter-one-eriks-choice.html

You'll note that the date I began was in 2014. That's because I failed to delete it, in it's entirety. I should have copied and pasted the beginning I wished to keep with what actually happened in the second version. But, you live and learn, right?

Gen 10 was recently born in TS4, but they have been on hold while I play Strangerville. I’m also on Gen 20 in TS3 but I haven’t played that in a few months.

Didn't know whether to vote No .. or what I did. I play with aging off and my sims either live forever or until I feel like aging them up and usually I only age up children. In a challenge I made it to two generations since I had to set the lifespan to aging on .. but it's just not my thing.

I think that drifter challenge would suit me much better than what I consider traditional legacy challenge (probably the same as Pinstar's?). Might delete my current legacy attempt and start drifter at some point.

I wasn't sure which one to pick, because for me, it's hard to let them pass on. So, I get to a point where I slow down their aging, especially if I am enjoying their "stories". I don't write out stories anymore, but I do give some of them story lines to play out within that generation. So, usually this makes it difficult to move onto the next generation because I'm enjoying the save a lot and don't want to move forward until I feel that the founder, or the children have accomplished a lot of different goals that I've set for them in terms of story during specific life-stages.

I know them feels! I usually slow their aging too, in the legacy I have at the moment I'm not turning on aging until they become pregnant. I don't want my sims to be old before they have babies but I'm also not going to drag it out forever so the sim has heaps of money before they have kids

I had a founder once who had basically the perfect life story, married, kids and everything perfect. I didn't want that to end!
