This exact thing is happening to me. I'm trying to build a second story, and it's winter, everything you said. I'm going to try the trick idkairplane suggested. I hope that it fixes it. Edit: It appears to have worked. Thank you for the help, I hope that it can help other people, too.

I tried the edit town thing, and I just get a message that reads "Edit Town is invalid." I made a new neighborhood in the main menu and created a totally new sim and then sent her to china for three days to see if the same thing would happen to her, but it didn't, she came right home. My other sim must just be bugged.…

Calling over the repair technician will restore salvageable items... at least this has been working for me. Whenever something I have bought on my lot breaks I call them and then they repair the one broken item and then stand around for a bit before announcing they are leaving. Then *poof* instantly restored.

I found an exploit that had been working for me maybe you should try it. Whenever I salvage things from the junkyard, I leave them in my family inventory until something on my lot breaks, like a sink, and then I call the repair technician. Before he/she arrives, I place everything I've salvaged on the lot. The game seems…

I had the half walls under the roofs and I couldn't figure it out. I thought maybe someone had placed a foundation on the second level, but that wasn't it, they had placed the half walls there with the deck tool. I got rid of it by holding down control and dragging over it with the deck tool.

To the best of my knowledge you would have to learn the gardening skill and grow them when your sim is able to grow "special seeds." If there is a faster way of doing it, I don't know, but I hope there is and I hope someone will post it.
