I fixed it. I built a wall underneath of the main deck of the house, and put up the biggest wall-mount tv available. Now they can stand out in the rain/snow to watch tv lol

Decided to try working with the lighting in the game, instead of against.
I only used lamps that would emit a soft glow, the ones usually deemed "not bright enough", and the result is quite pleasant in game.

Sadly, the Invention Constructor currently has glitches in its behaviors.
In this screenshot, the blue hologram (or what) is wrongly displayed around my Sim.
But, as for the SS, this glitch is not so bad because it looks like an effect to express an Eureka moment.
