@emorrill Correct, I don't have Supernatural installed. I have always noticed hairs being wonky through windows and water but haven't noticed this before and couldn't find an example of it in my current game.
ETA: puzzlezaddict posted and said it’s there so I guess I just wasn’t able to duplicate it.
I do have Supernatural installed, and I can't recreate this at all. Em asked me about it yesterday and I said I hadn't noticed it before, but hadn't been playing lately, so this morning I loaded my game and stuck Victoria next to lamps and tables and stuff, but there was just nothing.
Is there a certain set of conditions that need to be met or something for it to happen? Like, only at night, or whatnot? I turned all the light brightness up to bright.
I have disabled bloom in my game and I don't use the Full moon lighting.
TS3 lighting was changed many years ago with the introduction of WA when they got rid of the original gorgeous game lighting that lit up second stories, and spilled over lot edges, to introduce that disgusting bloom that nearly everyone I know mods out. It was a real shame. However, I do not recall transparent heads / hair ever being mentioned back then or perhaps I just missed it, I don't know, but it seems to be a recent thing.
As far as I know the only addition or fiddle with TS3's lighting was the other introduction of that revolting sickly green full moon lighting that came with SN, but I don't know why everyone isn't having that issue if that is the cause.
Perhaps it's a driver / windows combination?
I wish Win 10 would just let me stop updating. I freaking hate windows updates they break something somewhere every time.
My game has been affected but it doesn't bother me
@ZeeGee I first noticed light shining through a sim's hair when we were all comparing images in this thread. I loaded up the Andrews household in SV and saw something like these:
These were taken just after 8 am in a fully patched game but no Supernatural. Those shots are both while Victoria was outdoors, but I see the same thing indoors too.
If you're not seeing the same effect, maybe it doesn't show up with cc hair? Or maybe @Pary one of your anti-bloom settings fixes it? If you could post the settings or where you found them, I'd be happy to experiment a bit.
Em's picture on the previous page shows a sim with CC hair so I doubt that is why I'm not seeing the effect. I can upload my Graphics Rules for you though if you want to fiddle around with it.
My game has been affected but it doesn't bother me
Sure, I'd like to try it, thanks. And I guess I should have said maybe some cc hair isn't affected, but I don't use cc and don't know enough about it (or EA hair for that matter) to do more than speculate recklessly.
(This site isn't going to show the indents, but of course they're there.) Adding the bolded line to my own graphicsrules was enough to get rid of the light showing through the Victoria's hair. I haven't messed with the game more than that, but I'll keep an eye out for any other changes.
Post Processing is an effect that, under normal circumstances, is supposed to add some realistic-looking distance blur at the expense of a bit of performance. I don't generally like the effect that much even when it's done well, and sometimes it looks awful (e.g. in Sims 4), so I don't expect to miss the feature.
Thanks so much @Pary for letting me play with your file.
My game has been affected but it doesn't bother me
@Pary@puzzlezaddict Wait... Cool! Pary can you send me a link to your graphics rules as well. (Sorry I haven't responded to your last PM yet. )
How do I add that bolded line to my own graphics rules? Sorry I'm not computer literate. Thank you!
God I hate motion blur, it looks ridiculous. I turn it off in every game I have. There is nothing worse than having beautiful, crisp and clear graphics, and a blurry mess in the background. I've never understood why so many people seem to like it.
I'm glad that file helped though! At least something was able to be fixed
My game has been affected but it doesn't bother me
@emorrill You literally only need to copy and paste the line. Pary's graphicsrules file has a couple other edits, and it won't list your graphics card if you don't have a 20-series Nvidia GPU (I think; I didn't read the entire list of cards).
Anyway, if you want to edit your own file, or anyone else does, you can add the one line without changing anything else. First, make a copy of graphicsrules, in case you need it later. Open the file with Notepad, crtl-F and search for AdvancedRendering , and jump down to this bolded line:
prop $ConfigGroup TerrainLODMode 0
prop $ConfigGroup CullUndergroundBuildBuyStructures 0
end
Copy the bolded line and paste it where I've left a blank line above. (It should be two tabs indented, just like the lines below.) Then save the file, close it, and test in-game. If you don't like the effects, delete that line again.
And in case anyone else is reading, this only affects the game when Advanced Rendering is enabled. With it disabled, the post processing effect is also disabled by default, as the lines above show.
My game has been affected but it doesn't bother me
@Pary OMGosh!! I can't thank you enough for sharing your Graphics Rules with me and for your insightful information about the Bloom effect. I guess I wasn't one of those simmers that modded it out - obviously - or even knew about it when I really should have a LONG time ago! Silly me. Anyhoo. Just tested it in game and check it out!
This was the original photo I shared with the issue:
Now here's how it looks with Pary's Graphics Rules in my game:
YAY! You can't see the lamp through her head! And better yet, the lamp itself doesn't look so bright! I love it!
I tested it with my other sim standing nearby as well:
Woot!
I could see that the tips of Shane's hair strands weren't looking transparent in front of the glass doors like it sometimes does...
However when I checked on Seb standing in front of the fish tank...you can see the strands that have "disappeared."
That's a bummer that your rules didn't fix that, (so it's a game issue) but really I think it happens a lot with the hairs from that creator (Kijiko)
I'm just so excited that you can't see a lamp through my sims head now anymore! Glory hallelujah! Thank you again Pary (and you too @puzzlezaddict I always need a good walkthrough and you delivered that perfectly!)
***It's great to know that this is not an additional Windows 10 update issue.***
I have the hair + fish tank + window issue as well, with the transparency. I am fairly sure that's a game thing, but beyond that, I'm glad that it's fixed things for you
Personally I think the bloom effect brings nothing but ugliness to the game, especially considering the stunning lighting that was removed in favour of adding that horrendous effect
Not sure if it's the same issue you're talking about, but my sims have insanely pixelated shadows sometimes outdoors
Not sure if you found a fix for this yet, but what helped me was changing the shadow resolution in the GraphicsRule file to allow 4k shadows (or 2k).
I'm also assuming you have the game recognizing your GPU, correct? if not then that would be the first thing you need to do.
This is the issue I have and I have no clue how to fix it.:/ white lines through clothes
I'm no expert on meshes, think this might have to do with how the mesh is "stiched" together, so those white lines might be edges of polygons. Is it an EA or CC jacket?

This one is CC, but it happens on EA objects to such as beds and chairs, and also on some of my sim's necks

Yeah, I have seen it on beds and sometimes had to retouch it on screenshots. Not sure if it has gotten worse? I know that those annoying seams have been visible in the landscape since the game came out.
My game has been affected but it doesn't bother me
@Nikkei_Simmer Sounds like minimum settings, or perhaps a graphics driver that isn't working. Could you please post the first 40 or so lines of deviceconfig? You can remove your user and computer names, about 20 lines down, if you want.
