I start with one sim and let they story evolve around them and their children then I play all the children in rotation after they age up and so on.

Right now, I have a family who started with Gavin Grey the spellcaster. After leveling up, both in spellcasting and painting ( as he rolled both creative and art lover) he decided to settle down and start a family on Windenburg island.
His first choice for a wife ended up being a horribly mean woman who constantly fought with whoever met with her, including Gavin. He called it quits and kicked her out of the Caster group he was leader of. The member who replaced him was a purple eyed beauty called Pari. It was love at first sight. While he focused on dueling, her passion was potions. They lived in a stone hut that was quickly growing into a castle, he with his easel and she with her garden, when the news came that they were expecting.
Jacob was their first child. He grew up to be a bit of a slacker with his magical abilities, but he found he loved adventure and the ocean. He has climbed the mountain and now lives at the beach with his native lady ( they are both noncommittal, so no titles) and their twin sons Deacon and Victor. Deacon loves the island like his mom and dad and is nonmagical. Victor, who is magical, feels there is more to life then what the island had to offer.
Twin girls came to Gavin and Pari next.
Amelia is Ms. Magic. She still lives on Windenburg island with her husband, Jonas Gilmmerbrook and their daughters Pearl, Ruby, and Opal. Jonas' family was the original founders of the town of Gilmmerbrook and had a feud with the Charm family, who claimed to be the eldest family. Jonas' family was the last of the elves. When the vampires attacked, the elves retreated to the Glade, where they ceased to age. It was thousands of years before news came that the last Vampire General, Vlad, had burned to death in the sun, and Jonas came through to check the story. When he came through, he activated a trap left by the vampires, and it sealed the Glade forever, stranding Jonas alone in a world that had once belonged to him. He wandered, dejected, because he couldn't overthrow the Charm family alone. Then he met Amelia, and all his hate faded. She helped him learn her magic and he showed her his. He has given up on reclaiming Gilmerbrook, as it doesn't matter to him now that he is so happy in Windenburg, but his daughter, Ruby, has regrettably picked up that torch. Too bad that Vlad didn't actually die of his day in the sun and has been cared back to health by Caleb and Lilith, and he's about to make his return.
The last of Gavin and Pari's children, Aileen, is a breath of fresh air. She's a joke star who married her childhood best friend, Simon Fine. The two of them live a carefree, family centered life with their new baby, Jude (who got the magic trait). Aileen picked up gardening from her mom. Simon is a fabricator who loves to turn old scraps into new things for Aileen. Their house in Evergreen Harbor is mostly decorated by things Simon built, and Aileen just loves it. Their joy and steadfastness has spread through their neighborhood and they live on a very green street.
My point is, the sims is what you make it. Let the game lead you and the story will never end. Make the traits random, and then put the sims in a position to use those traits. It's fun, not knowing where things will go! If you let your game wander, a story will evolve.
    Happy simming!

I have my "main family", the Markovs, descended from my ur-sim Dmitry, who as of this writing has three children (Boris, Anatoly, and Larisa), two grandchildren (Nataliya and Gennady, both by Anatoly and his wife), and one great-grandchild (Nataliya's son Tom, the first of the family not to have a Russian name.) I tend to play them "straight", in the sense of the classic Sims reward loop of make lots of money, buy lots of stuff, complete lots of aspirations, and have a strong nuclear family. Most of their story is a how-they-got-there in terms of where they met their spouses or what career they chose. Oddly, many of them are creatives; artists, writers, musicians.

I also have my "wild card" family, the Koivonen Kids. I created a male sim who ended up having nine kids by seven different women before perishing in a freak accident involving a malfunctioning shower and freezing to death on a scorching hot Oasis Springs summer day. Those kids tend to be the ones I use for more experimental play, with one living in Oasis Springs and making her desert lot bloom with a large garden, another living a dual-income-no-kids (apparently the acronym is a banned word on the forums; who knew) life with his wife in San Myshuno and being a distinctly social creature at the top of the Law career, and the third full-on living the celebrity life. The other six, I have some semblance of plans for—a world traveler, a bar-and-club gadfly, possibly a second-generation "stud farm horse" to put a few loop-de-loops in the family tree with any NPC he can get into his bed just like his father. They're the ones I play when I want to push the limits of the life the game lets you live.

And then there's the oddballs, the one-offs, the ascended townies (Jade Rosa, from the Partihaus, ended up getting married off to a Serbian CAS sim I made named Darko Bogdanovic in the primary hope they'd have good-looking kids, for example), and sometimes just sims I created to replace townies that got purged in one of my various Totenaktionen (pardon my bar-floor German) when I was feeling particularly sadistic or irritated.

The more options you give yourself, the more fun you can have without trying to do everything with one Sim or family.
    (he/him)
And remember this above all. Our Roman gods are watching. Make sure they are not ashamed!

At the moment I’m spending some time in Sulani from the Island Living pack, so I’ve created a voodoo spellcaster called Selene Delacroix.

Just as she starts to go into labour with their first child, she finds her husband, Sam, having an affair with a mean-spirited mermaid called Cecelia Morgan.

Sam doesn’t realise he’s been spotted so after the baby is born, Selene makes sure the mermaid finds out about her and gets jealous enough to drown him in the sea using Siren’s Call.

She then binds a voodoo doll to Cecelia and the two plague each other using their abilities until they find they have both had children by Sam Delacroix and decide to leave each other alone (though they remain enemies).

Selene specialises in Untamed Magic and uses the Necrocall spell regularly to summon Sam’s ghost so he can know their daughter growing up, giving her an interest and affinity towards the medium skill which is going to be introduced. He doesn’t know that Selene was behind his death by drowning in the sea.

(This is where I’ve got to so far)

The children, Bridget Delacroix and Aria Morgan will grow up not knowing they are half sisters, but I plan for them to eventually grow close as they both work separately in the Conservationist career, restoring the island and becoming friends.

    UPDATE:

Aiko got her first child support payment from Eathan and it was a lot! She and the twins moved into a nicer apartment. Kian and Aria aged up into toddlers and surprisingly, Eathan sent them both a gift even though he never asked to see them. They are so adorable! Eathan asked Aiko over to his house (even though their relationship was in the red) but she declined. That’s as far as I got for now. Love everyone’s stories!

I know it’s been a while (I don’t know if anyone even cares) but I recently got a new computer and was too lazy to move my saves over, but here is as far as I got anyway.

I don’t really remember the twins as children but as as teenagers Kian started dating a nice girl named Katelyn, and didn’t tell Aria about it. Aria started dating Kian’s best friend, Brandon, who was on the basketball team, but it didn’t work out because he wasn’t ready to commit to the relationship. On Harvestfest, the family had a nice meal and then Kian went outside for a minute and Aria thought it was really weird of him so she secretly followed. It turns out that he was meeting with Katelyn, and they kissed. Aria was really hurt that her own twin wouldn’t tell her that he was dating someone, but she got over it soon enough. Both teens got A’s in school and Kian and Katelyn stayed together through it all.

After the twins became young adults, Aria got a job as a medical intern because her dream was to be a surgeon, and Kian started a vet clinic. Kian and Katelyn married and had a daughter, Christine. Aria met a guy named Chris and they started dating. They got married and also had a daughter named Rhea (Ray). Christine turned into a toddler and, sadly, Katelyn’s mother died. Katelyn was very close with her mother and soon fell into a depression. She went to the bar each night and didn’t want to do anything except drink away her sorrows. One night, she got so drunk that she flirted with another man at the bar, and they woohooed in the closet. She cheated on Kian! Katelyn went home that night feeling more broken than ever, and decided to take her daughter out to play in the snow. Kian was at work at the time. Katelyn suddenly had to throw up and she ran into the house, leaving little Christine out in the snow all alone. Katelyn forgot about her daughter due to her beer adled mind and decided to take a hot bath. Kian pulled into the driveway and saw Christine lying in the snow, her lips turning blue. He swept her up and ran inside the house trying to get her warm again. Once she was alright, Kian burst into the bedroom. He shook Katelyn awake and asked what was she thinking leaving a child of 3 out in the snow all alone. Katelyn felt terrible and ran to check on Christine who was now safe in her bed. She wept and told Kian what she had done at the bar and begged forgiveness. Kian was heartbroken, his kind, wonderful wife had betrayed him and nearly killed their daughter. He couldn’t even bear to look at her. Kian filed for a divorce, and Katelyn was pregnant with the man from the bar’s baby. Kian became a single dad who raised his daughter wonderfully.

Back to Aria... Aria and Chris loved each other very much and went on date nights each week. They soon had 2 more boys, and I don’t remember their names, oops. Aria achieved her dream and became a world renowned surgeon and Rhea wanted to be a computer engineer. She decided she wanted to go to a college on Mt. Komorebi, and she went with her boyfriend (whose name I also don’t remember). But she was on track to become an amazing, empowered woman, and I definitely would have kept playing with this family. Thanks for reading!

These are all fabulous, I love the creativity!

I'm playing a save I've called "Childhood Sweethearts" at the moment.
Cat's mother Sarah was a renowned artist, her father, James, a genius inventor and they were very much in love. So much so, that they couldn't bear to be separated so when Sarah went travelling for inspiration, James went along leaving Cat in the capable hands of a Servo bot built when Cat was too small to remember.
It was on one such trip that both parents perished in a landslide.
Cat didn't know them very well - they really only came home around twice a year, but they were still her parents.
They left her a beautiful old rambling manor and enough money to last well into her adulthood, and she was happy with just her Servo bot - whom she christened "Johnny 5" after the cute Short Circuit robot.
Johnny 5, however, thought it was a lonely life for a child and after talking with Cat, decided to start proceedings to adopt an orphaned child around the same age as her.
Cat was mostly indifferent to this - until she met the boy Johnny was thinking of adopting.
Not much was known about Cirrus at the orphanage - he'd been left there with no note as a baby and his prospects for adoption weren't great. See, little Cirrus is a known alien.
This didn't bother Johnny 5 (why would it?) and Cat was very excited as despite how much she adores space and science, she'd never had the chance to speak to a real live alien!
The proceedings finalised and Cirrus moved into the Manor, easily finding his place in the somewhat unconventional family and becoming friends with both Johnny and Cat who accepted his differences with just as much ease.
As time went on, a mutual and innocent crush began to develop between the two children (though they haven't admitted it yet), they find any excuse to spend time together, playing games, daydreaming, stargazing - Cirrus is incredibly smart and a gifted musician who often finds himself gazing longingly at James's laboratory (Johnny 5 won't let either of the kids in yet!). Cat is shaping up to be as wonderful an artist as her mother before her and has surpassed that lady's writing skill even at this tender age, due to her enjoyment of speaking with the dead and collecting their stories (Cat is a medium). Johnny 5 is simply doing his best to ensure they're both raised properly while trying to be the parent figure they need despite his own emotional shortcomings.

So I've been playing a challenge (link in my signature) that has my sim living in a new world each month, and finding a reason for my sim to move each month and incorporate that into her story has been a really fun way for me to make a complex story that feels so much different than the way I usually play.

@Oldeseadogge New York Theatre Workshop did an online production of "The Seagull" by Chekhov using Sims 4, played in real time by Celine Song over Twitch. Song is also a playwright. I didn't catch the stream, but here is a link to a review

Would love to see more stuff like this.

This is a storyline that I started and haven’t finished yet as I’m not sure what do add next but feel free to play it. 😃

    (Household)
    - (Dean) () and () (Smith) both live separate lives in different CITIES.
    - They knew nothing of each other until they met in the bar in brintolton bay.
    - They were both drunk, flirted for a long time, woohooed later in the night
    - Got married the year after
    - Accidentally got pregnant with their first child (girl) (Rylie) not long later
    - Rylie was never really paid much attention as both parents worked a lot so she was often left alone or taken to a nursery
    - When Rylie was 4 she began school and her parents had more children (twins) (girls) (Bailey) and (B).
    - 6 months later the parents moved to an empty lot with big dreams of what to do with it
    - They built their dream house with a bar/ restaurant downstairs and they lived upstairs
    - By the time the bar had opened Rylie was 7 and the twins were 3
    - The parents were trying for a 4th and final child
    - Over the next year Rylie developed her love for plants and the environment and the twins wanted a dog
    - () (boy) was born when Rylie was 8 and the twins were 4
    - The family got a dog()

    Rylie
    - When Rylie turned 15 she began to fend for herself more
    - Her parents barely knew she was there and although she used to be the favourite child and had the biggest bedroom with a balcony she was now not.
    - She was given permission to decorate her room how she wanted including the balcony so covered it in plants which her parents strongly disagreed with but thought it ok
    - When she turned 17 she began to realise she should soon think about what she wanted to do with her life and about moving out it first she wanted a cat
    - She asked her parents if it was ok and they said as long as she paid for it all and it stayed in her bedroom this was ok because she had a balcony so still some outdoor space
    - She got this cat and named her (mango)
    - As soon as she turned 19 Rylie and Mango moved out to a tiny eco-home in -cottage living world- she bought the smallest lot
    - Rylie worked a part time job as a () and in her spare time looked after her garden where she grew lots of plants, particularly catnip and oversized crops
    - what she had left over she sold to the market in town
    - Her plan was to eventually be completely living off her garden and the money she made from it

(Things in brackets are what names and stuff same with empty brackets)

I know I’m responding to an oldish comment here but : This, all over. I can’t use poses or mods, but I am sure not to let that get in the way of the story I want to tell. If I can’t put it in the screenshots then I just write it out.

As for story ideas, I love playing with the idea of people starting with a little, but ending up with a lot and then going sort of mad with it. Maybe money, power (whether supernatural power, or more in the social sense.) those sort of ‘wretched excess’ kind of things are great fun to play with. Especially when the character gets brought back down and their actions start having big consequences!

LittleDuck That’s an interesting detailed storyline you have going!

My stories are flavored by the expansion content I am playing, both in my legacy save (not a challenge, just the offspring & inlaws & connections of my founders) and various side-saves, largely to explain why my game is going where it is, and why I build what I build. I freely adapt Sims lore to suit my own needs, and expand it in whatever direction I see fit.

St. Simol, or Simol the Magician, is a figure of ambiguous reputation in Peteran writings. Some communities used him as a cautionary tale, but the monks near Old Henford and the Isle of Vulpes seem to have revered him, perhaps hoping his magical reputation might give their monastery a little glamour, in competitions with the Bramblewood druids. But that's all ancient history.

    Kp7aEiq.png

Or is it? There is certainly something odd about the Bramblewood, and the locals aren't exactly lining up to explain it. The old abbey is a history museum now - exciting stuff if you are big on Seventh Century pre-Norman pavements - but there's also a couple of nosy old men who don't appear to be spellcasters, and then that odd fellow, Michael Bell, who might just be the last , boots on the ground remnant of the old druidry.

The history books are clearly all wrong about the etymology of the kingdom of the Hwicce and of the Wychwood, and graduate assistant and associate professor Cassandra Goth intends to prove it - to the Three Sages of the Académie Arcane, if not to the faculty of the University of Britechester... if she's allowed to pursue her research without interference. So why has Elle Faba sent her an apprentice to train, with the suspect name Fauna Honeycutt? To help, or to hinder?

I'll have to play to find out. :)

I start with a very basic outline for my sims and then let it ride to be honest. I even use glitches and patch bugs as plot lines just to avoid the annoyance of most of them.

I had a secret agent finally get in the dating scene and he took a girl on vacation to the jungle and she got stuck between the route to the vacation bungalow and thinking she had to go to her actual home. This glitch threw her into the category of being an npc and my only fix was to combine her into his household

They didn't even get along that well and I had other prospects for him that I liked better but yet I made up some plot that she was kidnapped and he took her in until she could get on her feet (glitch wiped her money out)

They ended up married with 2 dogs and she's running for president. Literally became one of my top couples and they are totally always in love. She's also erratic but he seems to like that about her.

So in general, I let the story develop

I always try to figure out from the start what kind of backstory the household will have, set everything up to match it and then follow the storyline, but I let unexpected things to happen and adjust the storyline accordingly if it somehow fits the narrative. I play rotationally about 45 families, I made about 5 new families in HoB to add to my sim universe.

Currently I am playing a gay couple Joaquin and Samuel.

Joaquin met Sam in Strangerville where he and his family lived, his father is in millitary and was always unhappy with the way Joaquin was even before he found out he was gay. He was just very different, more introverted, enjoyed writing and lived in a sort of fantasy world and even when he joined the army after being pressured by his family, he was clearly not made for that kind of job.
Joaqin met Samuel at the base and it didn't take long before he fell head over heels for him. Joaquin's parents told him that they will disown him if he continues this relationship and if it wasn't for Sam who unlike Joaquin was very brave and outspoken, Joaquin would abide to his parents demands. Instead Samuel conviced him to leave everything behind and move to his hometown, small rural countryside village where his supportive father still lived and start over there.

They put all their savings together and bought an old, crumbling cottage where there isn't even electricity yet and are trying to rebuild their life from the scratch. Samuel still travels back to Strangerville for his army work while Joaquin started a new job that he hopes will bring him closer to his dream of being a proper art critic.
Joaquin is still a bit nervous about being himself around people, but the closenit atmosphere of the village is making him slowly come out of his shell. He is still quite sad from how things ended with his parents and he still has a slight hope that they will decide to be a part of his life and accept him one day. Samuel's dad is very different from his parents, he loves his son as he raised him alone after his wife died and he is happy to love Joaquin as the partner his son chose, no questions asked. When at work Samuel sometimes bump into Aurelio (Joaquin's dad) and always tries to be polite, but there is a lot of tension between them that sooner or later might end up in physical brawl :|
I already have some plans for what I want to do, but we will see how the story unfolds :)

Currently I’m playing a teen Sim called Esseia. Her and her older (Young Adult) brother, Felix moved into a house in Forgotten Hollow.

After being bitten by Lilith, Felix turned into a vampire, attacking Esseia (and scarring her face in the process). She managed to escape, but as she has no family and no money, she is now living as a homeless person in a park I’ve marked as Residential in Willow Creek.

While struggling to survive day to day, she is obsessively building her strength and studying vampire lore so that she is prepared for the day when her brother finally finds her again.

Meanwhile, Lilith is building an army of vampires as part of a plan to kill Count Vladislaus and become the master vampire.

Felix on the other hand has his own plans to become stronger and take power, though he is much weaker than Lilith and is susceptible to her vampiric commands as his sire.

I have three Sim brothers who, unbeknownst to them, were cloned and implanted with tracking devices by the government to follow their progress. One of the brothers started a mission to gather evidence and destroy the cloning plants.

I have mannequins brought to life by rogue Glimmerbrook spells who worship a mannequin god and had a quest to find other living mannequins. The leader of the mannequin sect had to introduce one of the mannequins (with the Grim Reaper trait) to a human so the human could fulfill her destiny by talking to him about grilled cheese.
