I think I remember reading in a blog or interview somewhere that Sims 5 was in the early stages of development, and the same interview is the source of all the concern about Sims 5 being Multiplayer On Line.

I'm pretty sure that's the extent of what's been officially released.

Aside from that one interview tho we can only speculate based on EAxis's inner remake of teams and stuff
I'm taking a guess to say that Sims 5 is in the last stages of pre-production and will start going into production this year

We'll get more official info in early 2022 with a release in early 2023

They won’t be able to go into full production until most of the team is done with TS4, as they don’t have enough staff to have both TS5 and a TS4 pack to be in full production at the same time. Pretty sure TS4’s pre-production started in 2009 or 2010 but didn’t go into full production until early 2013 when the team was done with TS3: Island Paradise, the last EP made at Redwood Shores.

The full production period is comparatively short due to how expensive it is. There is no reason they would go into full production until they have everything planned out & are very sure about what kind of game they’re gonna make. Expect the game to spend like 3 years in pre-production and only 12-18 months in full production.

we only know that EA has hired a bunch of people for a new game, that's all we know. it could be a spin-off game like another mysims installment or whatever.

I think it has been in development since late 2018 by a small team led by SimGuru Grant, they’ve hired some new people to work on a new title and in an entirely new studio... I’d expect an announcement next year and a 2022 release

I also think it's already in production. They won't tell us nothing untill it's almost released, i think, cause that would lower sells in the remaining sims 4 packs.

Yes, OP, it's true. But none of us know if it will be titled The Sims 5. EA had job listings for Maxis on Glassdoor site a few years ago hiring new developers and managers etc and other positions for a new Sim (by Maxis) Triple A game. They have since listed a few newer positions for this project in the last year or so. Our best guess is the game has been in development for a few years now. But whether EA sticks with it or not is another matter. Sometimes they work on stuff then trash it or pull the plugs on new games. But this one was for Maxis and what does Maxis do? they make Sim games. Our best guess is this is The Sims 5 since this franchise is the only one done by Maxis that gets a AAA budget.

Rumors fly around it's multi player because the CEO hints at multiplayer in a few interviews when he speaks about the entirety of The Sim franchise. Rumors fly around it has to be a multiplayer because EA as a whole has been hard at work building a new AI called S.E.E.D. which is rumored to be used in all future games produced by EA (which would include Maxis)

S.E.E.D. AI is supposed to be a revolutionary AI that we have never seen before, (mainly for RPGs and Shooter games) but would also change world events and every time you loaded a game things would be different...it seems it would be logical that would mean a server world in a shooter or RPG game, right? But what about Maxis games?

Well, logic would seem to suggest, yes, they would also take advantage of this new remarkable AI and use some of that in their own games, too. Since EA wants all their games to use this new AI. (rummors, but many articles about S.E.E.D.)

So, yes, Maxis did hire new employees for a new Sim game (it was stated on Glassdoor) and it's a AAA game..and that can only mean a new Sim game of this franchise and not a spin off...because Spin offs don't get a AAA budget. And why so many of us also believe it's a multiplayer is because they also stressed the position of needing someone who is very familar with live service and how to do that, and maintain that, and or whatever live service workers do. That job offer was listed last year..so it may be closer than we know and we all know multiplayer or microtransaction games love live service updates to buy that little thing you need to get ahead.

There are hints...I don't remember them all, there have been so many different posts and topics about it...

A couple of years ago Maxis moved a lot of people around, people changed places and roles which could be because they were changing their production, but it could also be because they just moved around some people.

SimguruGrant who often responded to questions about the sims4 on twitter, said one day that he did not work on the sims4, and when people asked him what he was working on he simply responded "not the sims4".

Maxis have hired a lot of new people lately to work on what seems to be a new game.

EA mentioned during their Q3 2020 financial and accompanying earnings call that they are planning to make 14 titles, where four games are from established IP's. The sims could be one of those four, unless EA have said something else since then.

Given that making video games takes such a long time to make I think Maxis are working on a sequel and have been working for a while already, but at what state it is in, no one can really say.

Part of me is hoping that the reason why...their support for the sims4 seems to be...less than it was, is because they are busy working on other things.

In the latest roadmap they said they are not working on multiplayer, so maybe other type of live service, like Jasmine Holiday perhaps.

They didn’t say there wouldn’t be multiplayer for the new game, they’re talking about the Sims 4.

They have already come out and said that there are still years more of Sims4 to look forward to. They have said that now some of the most requested stuff is out of the way, they can make packs we aren't expecting. They have the TV gaming started and have talked about multiplayer. They put all Sims5 talk in rumor and speculation. They also said Sims4 wouldn't have patterns like past games. It's also been mentioned by some that if Sims4 isn't lucrative, there will be no Sims5. They have mentioned open world being a problem, so if that isn't happening, what could Sims5 offer, but adding content we already have in Sims3 and Sims4. It would be redundant. There's talk of world editor, which along with making more content could warrant more workers. Also heard that those workers might be for another title; EA has many games.

I think they are paying attention to the mistakes they made with Sims4 and are making ideas/notes, but as far as seeing a Sims5 anytime in the near future, I don't think so by the numerous comments over the last year. When extremely tight lipped gurus say there are years worth more of Sims4, then it's true. They won't ever tell us anything and for them to spell it out openly is an indication that it isn't coming anytime soon. People seem to forget Sims4 is different in that it's online instead of disc, so adding to the Sims4 is different than the past Sims games. We don't even have 1/5 or less content in the Sims4 than we had in the Sims3. Horses, casinoes, houseboats, hotels, cemeteries, more travel destinations( they only have 2 listed), no freed infants, many supernaturals missing, no cars, no real aquariums, all those surveys for future content that we haven't seen yet, a bunch of jobs, underwater play, and so much more.

I despise the thought of the Sims5 and so do many others, because buying the same game and packs over is crazy. Years from now, they might up the specs and provide other gaming solutions as well, but they have already said open world is extremely questionable going into the future. I didn't want Sims4, but wanted farming and other requests for Sims3, but we have it, so why not add to it for 5 yrs. and if anything else comes along maybe it will be worth buying. Rushing into the Sims4 sure didn't help things and after Sims3, they knew many of problems and we still have a game that is a step into the past, not the future, although it has several things I love about it. Rushing into another game when Sims4 is nowhere near to being fleshed out isn't something many simmers want.

I think the devs saying that there are more years left for TS4 so that people will keep buying its stuff until TS5 is released. And I think TS5 will be released sooner than you think.

I mean, just look at the packs that have been released for the past few years - very little content and lack-lustre gameplay. It is apparent that the devs aren't putting all their effort and focus on TS4. They're putting their focus and effort into TS5.

Also, if TS5 turns out to be far better in every way than TS4, being packed full of great, working gameplay and items from the very start, it will sell well, better than TS4. All of the people who have never liked or stopped playing TS4 will buy it. And even the people saying they won't move on from TS4 WILL go and buy TS5.

It is not known that sales for TS4 have been ropey and there is a reason for that. A lot and I mean a huge lot boycotted the game at release and most have never moved towards it with later packs while many stopped after the base game or the first EP or two.

TS4 has been a huge let down. We all know that and aside from a few white nights who have tried to praise it as much as possible it is clear that they are a small minority.

Indeed a lot of players saying that they will refuse to move on will jump for joy if TS5 looks good. Some players have been doing the same since TS2 was announced years ago. I was the same myself although I stopped with TS4. I took one look at it and knew that I was being fobbed off but show me a decent Sims game with huge worlds and exciting Sims and I am going to get my wallet out!

I agree. At this point though, I think a lot of people are no longer loyal to The Sims franchise for the extremely poor quality of TS4 and the way they've been deceptive toward us to try to get us to buy it. Plus, EAxis has been very insistent on making the next Sims game an online multiplayer, when the simming community is largely against that.

If any of the competition comes out with better life sim games of their own, such as Paralives or Paradox Tectonic's game AND treats us better, the competition WILL win the simming community's hearts and minds away from EAxis, just like what happened with the SimCity fans moving on to Cities:Skyline.

It won't happen for years and once it will be announced people will begin to waiting for The Sims 6 .

I don't think anyone will be left to wait for TS6. They'll have moved on to the competitions' better sim games.

...Yes? I mean COVID-19 has slowed things down a bit, not to mention they are not finished with the Sims 4 yet. I mean it won't be released tomorrow at Midnight or anything, but Sims 5 will be out in the next few years (before The Elder Scrolls VI or Bully 2 anyway).
