So I don't quite understand what is wrong with Island Living?
Read all the posts on the forum that complain about it including right in this thread. You can't avoid it, lol!
I see nothing wrong with it and if I wanted Sims 4 to be a rehash of past games I wouldn't have bought it.
That is based on what you think about IL, other people have different ideas and opinions that differs from yours and that is okay.
Ok but you need to realize this isn't Sims 2 or 3 and it doesn't need to measure up to either game.
It DOES have to measure up to Sims 2 and 3 because it's part of the series. They should have made TS4 it's own game. That way it wouldn't have to live up to the previous better iterations.
I agree. It DOES and SHOULD match up with Sims 2 and 3 because it's supposed to be a follow on from those games. Sims 4 is definitely NOT a follow on. Sms 4 changed the criteria right from the outset and right from the outset, in terms of being a follow on, it was lacking. Everyone who has played Sims 2 and 3 already knows that. It's not a belief, it's a fact. EA know it, long time players know it.
Sims 4 is ok as a stand alone game. It's .... ok. But that's it. If I look at it from the perspective of being an extended, better version of Sims 2 or Sims 3, then no, it's not ok. It's lacking.
Its not lacking you just expect the game to be open world no loading screens. You expect everything they put out to be Sims 3 quality and to be honest Sims 3 wasn't that good. I have more fun playing Sims 4 then I did Sims 3. I had more issues and more game breaking immersive issues with Sims 3. It was so much fun to play and when you come back from vacation in that game to have your 4 generation families family tree all messed up beyond fixing. It was so much fun to have to use mods to fix the problems that game had. That game was a big buggy mess. Also when I do go back to Sims 3 there are things in Sims 4 that make Sims 3 boring now. I am a long time simmer of the franchise I started with The Sims.
Ignoring the open world since that isn’t happening, it’s still lacking. Like how many staple base game features are we missing? It’s cool that you settle for less, but I find it ridiculous to discourage other people from expecting and called for more. Sims 4 is NOT high quality, especially the newer things they’re releasing!
I am not settling for less I see the Sims 4 as a platform to be creative and tell stories. When you have possibly experienced my bugs in Sims 3 or traveling bugs I had where 4 generation were ruined by the bugs you would understand my point. These things took me out of the game and they were also beyond being able to fix. 4 generations is a huge deal and if your family tree gets messed up because all you did was send them on vacation and it wasn’t repairable that’s not good. The only thing that has happened and it wasn’t game breaking or immersion breaking in the Sims 4 was a eye color glitch. I love this series I stand by this series but I don’t want rehash of older games in the series even Sims 3. Sims 3 was buggy it was fun when it first came out but I get bored with it now. Sims 4 has unique gameplay in my opinion It has so much to do and I doubt you have even done everything in the game. My game style of playing is telling fun drama related stories and seeing what my sims do in certain situations and that’s how I develop who they are going to be. Sometimes I like to explore my sims having lives with their boyfriends or girlfriends that they grew up with. Other times I like to explore maybe one of my sims doesn’t quite feel like they like the opposite gender so they date their gender or they just want to focus on careers and they don’t want a family of their own. My point is that it’s a creative platform no matter if you think it’s lacking in content it’s a platform to tell stories that you can only imagine and it’s a platform to share experiences or share content you make. That is what the Sims Series is.
Ok cool for you. I view Sims as a game, not a “story telling platform”. Perhaps that’s what I mean when I say this game is lacking, it’s lacking things that make it feel like a game. To each their own, I also had bugs in Sims 3 but never severe enough to make me rage quit the game. If your primary reason for liking Sims 4 over 3 is due to bugs then it doesn’t sound like you’re interested in very many aspects of the games beyond telling imaginative stories.
TS4 is not even a really good "story telling platform" as you can't even edit its worlds for a wider range of stories. It doesn't have a lot of different animations for richer story telling either. The b/b stuff are mostly modern in style too with very little else for stories in other time periods and genres. The story teller has actually very little creative control using TS4 in comparison to TS3 and TS2.
I like the game no one on the forums plays the same as the next person so saying it’s not a good story telling platform is your own opinion The bugs in Sims 3 didn’t revert me to play Sims 4 because I can play Sims 3 I just don’t like it after playing Sims 4. Sims 4 may have problems with keeping me interesting in playing because it doesn’t have enough to do for sims. But it’s interesting and different from Sims 3 and Sims 2 that makes the game fun and fun to tell stories or have drama without causing it yourself. It also runs better. @Cinebar hasn’t Dine Out always been bugged I mean my sims either get their food 8 sim hours later or they order and nothing comes.
No, in my game it worked as I expected it would work. I learned how to make sure my Sims were the first seated so they didn't have to wait until everyone else was served. And I made sure those running the restaurants were trained until a patch wiped them all out one time. I'm talking about new bugs I saw here this past weeks, and it was new other than those problems you mentioned. My point of this thread is I'm ready for TS5 (maybe) if TS4 is going to continue down this path of selling GP content for the price of EPs. When an EP should expand the entire game and you have to admit that no the last few EPs have not expanded the entire game. GPs I understand but not the lack luster, skimmpy content or gameplay of the last 2 EPs, and or their focus limited to an area etc. That is not my idea of an EP. But Maxis will continue that trend as long as those who don't see through it keep buying for higher prices than the GP gameplay it contains.
Wait how did you make sure they were all trained by running the restaurant? I don't like running the restaurants.
Sims 4 took away the freedom of Sims 3. No color wheel to customize and match objects, hair, skin or eye color. No open world, loading screens everywhere. No personality in Sims, no favorites, attraction, traits don‘t have much impact like in Sims 3.
A sequel shouldn’t take away stuff from previous games. Only improve on the features and deliver a solid base game that has stuff like toddlers, dishwashers, pool or ghosts from the beginning.
To me Sims 4 should‘ve been called Sims 2.5
I think of it more as Sims 1.5. But unfortunately with none of the quirkiness and uniqueness that made Sims 1. And I'm being generous calling it 1.5. It just doesn't "fit" with the others.
I like your post and I agree

Sorry @Cinebar I just went into your thread to see if you had anything new to offer but it was just the same as usual. I had put you on ignore so won't answer any replies. Good luck for Sims 5 though.
Why would you even say that? She started this thread and is entitled to her opinion. The title very clearly informs you of the context. A couple of days ago you posted about the criticism on the forum yet here you are again in a thread clearly meant to be critical. There are plenty of game-play threads started and getting few responses because everyone flocks to the critical threads and can't help but try to refute or rebut whatever opinion the OP is presenting.
On Topic: I won't say I'm actually looking forward to the end but I'm ready for my game to be complete. And by complete I don't mean game mechanics but content that we had by this time in previous versions. Specifically University and Witches. I'm also ready for mod updates to be a thing of past and I'm looking forward to trying out all the awesome custom content and gameplay mods.

The bolded part above I can certainly get behind. I hope the next iteration doesn't do monthly patches, because that has been a pain for modders and anyone who uses their mods. A lot of modders got burnt out simply because of the frequency of patches.
I also think I would like to see this iteration wind down because I am tired of waiting for all the usual content to be in the game, University, the rest of the supernaturals, I am tired of waiting for them. I wish we could get it and be done with it. That is a bit frustrating.

I just want more supernatural, more vacation spots, singers, bands, and more family play.So I can move on.Also plumbots.
I going to say sims 4 is at a weird state. The game is shallow, but the packs are getting better.I want them to take their sweet time with Sims 5.While we get some more packs.Like SupernaturuaLs,
TS1 was supposed to be a building simulator and the sims were meant to be just there to test out the houses/lots, this is exactly what TS4 feels like, sims have no personality at all, traits dont mean anything, they spend 70% of the time with the happy emotion, now if you check out the amount of objects that each EP from every iteration came with, it's even more clear, every TS4 expansion pack has come with 500 objects, but out of those 500 only around 5 are completely new (as in they didnt require a new animation or new gameplay mechanics), whereas in TS1 and TS2 each EP came with around 120 objects, but 25 of those were new and fun interactions. My point is, TS4 is just a building simulator that focuses a lot more on how everything looks than in how the sims behave
Have to agree with you on that as I seen an lot of work was put in on Building as well as CAS and I do not want to spend all my time in Building or CAS to get an thrill.

I can honestly say I'm not really looking forward to the end of TS4 and I pray they don't make a TS5. The only posts I ever see in the Sims community these days are along the lines of "I want...." "I want..." "What EA should have done..."
There could be thousands of reasons why this that and the other didn't make it to the final product. Given that the game was developed from the base of an abandoned project, I should think time was a big factor. I can almost envision the angry simmers "Where's TS4? You promised us TS4 last year. WHY ISN'T IT HERE?" etc. Then the complaints would roll in about it not being enough, even if swimming, toddlers and ghosts had made it from the beginning. This happens in other gaming communities but I have noticed that the last couple of years have got worse with simmers screaming about what they want.
I wonder how many simmers say 'Thanks' when a Guru answers a question on Twitter? Not many, I'll bet. Given the lack of "thank you"s when somebody shares some CC, I can see that manners aren't a priority any more. Shouting like spoilt toddlers about what they want is in, apparently.
Sorry but if TS4 hasn't panned out the way you want, why do so many keep buying it? I realise this is an unpopular opinion but I'm entitled to my opinion on this one too. At the end of the day, loads of you hate TS4 with an apparent passion since you can't seem to find any redeeming qualities. So how come so many of you who seem to despise it keep buying the packs? Nobody's forcing you to do it and if you're really that passionate about it, doesn't that send a more direct message to EA as a company if you withhold the money, rather than slagging them off on the forums for a game you didn't like in the first place?
I get that people were disappointed when the base game came out. If the quality of packs hasn't, in your opinions, improved, why still buy and then complain about it? How about you just don't buy it and go back to Sims 3.
On a side note, it's funny how many people now consider Sims 3 an amazing, full and complete game. Not that many years ago, the "I want..." threads were aimed at that. Funny that.
I couldn't agree more with this. Now we all have disappointments and wants including me but I'm so tired of these TS4 bashing hate threads yet they will not stop playing it. When I came to this forum i didn't know it was like this.
We all have different opinions but at the end of the day it's just "A VIDEO GAME" and I enjoy it for what it is. What other game out there is like the sims? Nothing. I've played many games but the sims is the only one I can get addicted to and play for hours at a time even with all of its flaws. All of the sims were good and I'm loving TS4 for what it is because we could have nothing at all.I really hope they keep it going for a loooooong time.
Thanks EA
-They are not done yet, so much they can still add and improve on
-The game needs to feel complete and make sure all bugs are fixed.
If they can't do that, what would be the point of Sims 5 or expect it to be any better? It would just be starting over and expecting low quality.
We got a few more years, which I am glad as it means a better game and game that is actually playable.
We don't need a new Sims every five years until there is a major technologically breakthrough. I would be happy if they just updated Sims 2, don't need a Sims 5.
Honestly, I don't really trust EA to develop TS5. I wouldn't be sad if they ended the franchise with TS4.
Does EA develop TS5 though? I mean, it's the bigger company and Maxis is definitely apart/absorbed into EA to some degree (and you can definitely feel the difference), but I thought that the strict development was done ~by~ Maxis. Not saying that EA doesn't have its share of influence on the game with the company under its wings, nor do they really give positive influence on the subcompanies they own (Ex: Bioware is one giant hot mess atm) but it's not entirely on EA's shoulders in terms of responsibility, either.
Sort of remind me of how I felt about sims3. But we all play differently. We expect different/certain things. Mostly opinions. Such as color wheel and open worlds and cars. Some simmers like this stuff some do not. Some people say sims3 was complete with the first pack, I was bored stiff. I hate how it took the car forever to get to point a to b, and yet I didn’t mind them galloping on a horse from point a to b because some how that was visually beautiful. Then, the sims3 packs a lot of people didn’t care for were my favorite! ITF, WA, KPST, etc lol
Anyway I want more packs for sims 4. I enjoy the game and I’d love for the devs to immerse themselves in how “deep” the sims from 2 was. Their memory system in what went on it n their lives and the proper emotions to back it up was amazing. The sims need to do less smiling too lol

It seems everyone assumes that everyone playing Sims 4 has played the others. I haven't. I decided to try it and it is fine for me when I am taking a break from SWTOR. I am used to MMO's with people (not NPC) to play with and do things with. This is okay when I need a break but I didn't expect this to do what my other game does. I do like the mermaids, but I have always been a fan of mermaids.
A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous. A girl should also always be a lady even when arguing
I do want Maxis to take their time developing a solid base for the Sims 5 and finally bring gradual aging to the series. I like the newest pack but I'm biased being a native beach girl and I love mermaids. It is enough for me and I'm happy to have a supernatural in an EP again. I wouldn't mind seeing more of them. But yes like I said during the Sims 4 inception a bit after I joined forums, packs can be all the frosting it wants but without a solid base game, the packs start to sink it and show the flaws of the base game. Pretty much all the issues that the Sims 4 had is what the SimCity had like the confined worlds. SimCity games tend to reflect their Sims counterparts, so Sims 4 does reflect SimCity's flaws. Whether Sims 5 comes out or if Paradox Interactive develops a life Sim game like they did with SimCity, I wouldn't mind either way. I do think the packs have gotten better but as a whole Sims 4 has a long way to go base game wise to even feel as complete as the first three Sims games did. I like that witches and mermaids will both be in packs this year. The stuff pack honestly I'm more disappointed with and just feels like a lame marketing partnership. I would have preferred a Target pack over an expensive trash clothing company.

We all have our disappointments and we all have our different opinions. But somehow part of us continues to insist the other part has to shut up with their opinions. They even claim that part is spoiling all the fun, just by expressing them. I have no idea how that works but apparently it does. This indeed is ‘just’ a video game (a unique one and the very reason these forums exist in the first place, it’s kind of the theme here to discuss that video game) and it’s just other peoples’ opinions. Don’t feel attacked by them, don’t let those opinions make you ‘tired’, they are not about you. They are about the game. If you can’t stand the other opinions, stop opening topics that are posted by the not so happy crowd who wants this mediocre, expensive, buggy version that’s dragging on way too long for its own good (my opinion) to be over with already. The titles of those topics are clear enough most if the time.
This section is called Feedback. I have a feeling there is some confusion about what it was added for under that name. They don’t mean giving your fellow simmers and their opinions or supposed motives feedback. It’s about giving the game feedback. And when someone like the OP gives the game feedback, they don’t mean you have to agree or else. Everybody is allowed to join and to disagree. But please with arguments that adress the game, not simmers. I for one don’t need to hear I lack imagination or that I have to own all the packs or play the game daily (the fact that I don’t is actually a result of the problem) to participate.
I can totally live with the fact Sims 4 hasn’t panned out the way I want, apparently it was like that with Sims 3 for others. If there was one thing I have always perfectly understood, it’s that those people were really glad when it ended in 2013 and that a successor was announced. Please stop begrudging me the very same thing.
Thank you for this topic, @Cinebar. It doesn't take much common sense to realize we are clearly being taken advanatge of every time a new pack comes around. During the last Q&A with SimGuruLyndsay, the gurus were asked about the 'secret mermaid lot', and they refused to give the audience a straight answer. And this happened on the day Island Living was released. I don't know how anyone else feels about this, but I don't enjoy being treated like a child that can't handle being told the truth. Especially when the question was being asked of the very people that created this pack. When will EA and the gurus stop thinking a bunch of kids play this game? We are not children, a good many of us are adults that have been playing this game since the beginning. And supporting the franchise by purchasing everything EA has published for it. But when a free pre-ep update contains more than what was included in the EP itself, that's when I dig in my heels and say 'enough'. Free stuff isn't cutting it as far as keeping this Simmer content and happy with Sims4. Freebies don't make up for the fact this latest iteration in the Sims franchise is barely a Sims game at all. They had great ideas for it but no way to implement those ideas because of a poorly made game engine and refusing to make the decision to drop support for 32-bit systems while Sims4 was in the development stage. But this is 2019, and newer technology has not been taken advantage of to make this game better than it is. Sims4 has a Corvette body but it has a four cylinder engine under the hood. And what good is it to have a great looking car if the engine can't deliver great performance? Sims4 looks beautiful, the artwork is nearly flawless. Nearly. But beneath all that eye candy lies a very shallow, under-optimized game.
We can draw all the comparisons we can think of between Sims2, 3 and 4, but those comparisons are not relevant because all three of those were built with different game engines. And rather than looking back at what we had in the past, I want to know what EA is going to do with Sims4 in the near future. Such as creating new packs and content in 64-bit. We were told months ago to expect the conversion to 64-bit would be made this month. Then it was postponed. And each time we ask when will it happen, their only reply is soon. They claim to have a couple years worth of content for us. I don't want that content if it was created to be compatible with 32-bit systems. The game engine is clearly struggling now after the addition of so many different packs and updates. When a simple task such as reading while lounging on a lounge chair can't be done, something is wrong. And my hopes for any kind of future for Sim4 fade a bit more. So perhaps it is the right time for us to start a dialog on what we expect from Sims5. But seeing as I have been down this road four times already, and the game disappoints me with each new iteration, I don't know if I want to do it all again. I might stay with Sims4, mod the heck out of it, and just play my game. At least I wouldn't have to search for updates for those mods after a patch, update or new pack ever again. Which would suit me just fine.
A lot will have to be done differently before I decide to take a chance and try Sims5. Sims4 sat on my computer, unplayed, for over fifteen months before I went back to it and gave it another chance. And even after adding a couple of Sims4 packs, I continued to go back and forth between Sims3 and 4. So I know every comparison that can be drawn between the two. But there is no comparing the two because they are two totally different concepts, created on two totally different game engines. Choosing, or building the game engine for Sims5 will be a critical first step. It is the very foundation upon which the game will be built. A shaky foundation means we will get a shaky game. Which is what we ended up with in Sims4, and continue to pay the price for to this day. Because of EA's poor decision making during the development stage of Sims4, the game has never had the opportunity to be anything more than a clumsy, and quite shallow, sequel. Island Living shows just how far EA will go to take every opportunity to give as little as they possibly can in the hope of reaping more than they deserve.
I have little, to no hope for Sims4's future. As long as they continue creating poor content and folks buy it, I guess EA can carry on with this for as long as three more years, or until the game engine implodes. I'm as guilty of this as anyone else. I preordered Island Living. It is the last preorder I will ever make. The level of disappointment I felt after I went into Sulani for the first time almost made me cry. Ten minutes into that first game, I was ready to pull my hair out in frustration. My game, a vanilla save without mods or CC, was, and still is, a glitchy mess. I can't play my brand new expansion for more than a few minutes before my right eye starts to twitch. Not because my mods are not present, but because the pre-ep update and the expansion borked my entire game. I am dumbfounded by the level of ineptness represented in this pack. There are few features from the past packs that this new EP has not impacted in a negative way. How is that even possible? Dine Out is a mess. Spa Day has issues now, and I never had any before. Toddlers have sticky fingers and can't put objects down which then makes every Sim on that lot freeze in place. The new floaties, so cute, but our Sims can, and do get stuck on them. The list of issues and bugs is quite long. I spend much of my playing time resetting Sims rather than being able to enjoy the new world. And I paid forty dollars for this experience?? Kill me now. Please.
If the devs aren't able to create better content we can't blame them for that. The fault lies within the game engine itself. And the fact whatever they do create has to be compatible with older systems. Well, there are solutions for those problems. Why EA is dragging its feet to take that leap is beyond my understanding. Island Living could have been a great expansion. It is hardly a well-kept secret this expansion was supposed to be a game pack. Someone found vacation destination coding in it. There is a lot type for rental units that pops up whenever we want to change a lot from retail to residential to park, etc. One full time career was included when we usually get more. There are no pack-based whims. Rabbithole diving, and lifeguard career, exploring a cave is a rabbithole. Oh, look, the map fills in when you explore a different area. Then once it is completed, the map disappears. That's it. No prize or new trait to be had for your effort. The least they could have done was give us the map to be displayed in our Sim homes. Only one island is changed during the conservationist career. Lame. Just another dead end. No lasting gameplay at all. Mermaids. Sigh. Another golden opportunity wasted. Island culture. Sigh. Another wasted opportunity. I guess having ocean swimming meant other features couldn't be expanded upon. And that about sums up Sims4 and most of the previous packs. A very long string of missed opportunities to make the game come alive, and hold our interest for longer than an hour. If Sims5 is being worked on right now, I hope the team gets it right the first time around. As we have seen in Sims4, there are no do-overs. What you have is what you will have for years to come. And we are a tough audience to please. After almost five years of Sims4 we're more than ready for something new.
As someone that loves the Sims and is very passionate about the game, I was/am peeved that Sims 4 is an alternate universe to excuse a lot of the inaccuracies/inconsistencies that they made with bringing back TS2 families. Here are some examples: In Sims 2, Cassandra and Bella Goth share the same skintone "medium" but was given "light" skintone in 4. Dustin Broke has blue eyes, but with Get Famous, they gave him green eyes. Same thing with Dirk Dreamer; he has blue eyes, but gave him brown eyes instead. Holly Alto looks nothing like her Sims 3 counterpart. Who the heck is Katrina Caliente? Last I checked, (name was censored) Caliente was the Caliente Sisters' mother, and she had passed away when the girls were at a fairly young age.
I'm not hating on Sims 4, but with it being the next iteration, I had hoped for more. The pack felt incomplete. I felt like I had more stuff to do in StrangerVille than I did with Island Living. It felt like the main selling point of Island Living was mermaids and swimming in oceans and that was it. It really didn't give me much to do. Is Island Living visually appealing? Yes. In terms of gameplay, did it bring alot to the table? No.
I know people dislike comparing games, but look at Sims 2. They had less to work with, but were able to provide meaningful and memorable gameplay. TS2 and TS3 are different from one another, but both had cars (cars were introduced with Night Life for S2 and cars were there from the start for S3), so what is Sims 4 excuse?
No.

You are right, it's obvivous making more money (they claim TS4,all formats, has made over one billion), doesn't equal better game.
It has dawned on me the selling point of this pack was the world and not gameplay. If they would create a world tool for players we wouldn't have had to buy a world without gameplay. Someone pointed out what the ads say and it's about you live in pleasing looking world...well, duh, then, I guess we all were taken in by the fact we thought it would be about the gameplay. ETA: Here is the quote, ..live amongst the aesthetic backdrop. (This proves they can deny they ever meant to say this had amazing gameplay when in truth this is about the map and not the gameplay)

For me, Sims 4 hasn't got much in the way of "building" at all because I cannot edit the towns like I can in Sims 3 and Sims 2. Without that, it doesn't interest me.
I'm really tired from reading all the same complains over and over again, blaming ts4 for not being the same game as the others, and you know what, I'm pretty happy with ts4 and I hope it'll be around for many more years. I know it's not perfect, and it has its own bad sides but still, look at the all perfect ts3, you can't even play it properly.
I hope, that they fix and improve TS4, make this game more interesting and playable. Hopelessness, I know. I spend too much money for this game and right now I will be very angry, if the producers abandon it.
TS4 is more like cartoon movie, I do agree, but still there is some things to do, like university for example.
I do not buy TS5 until I will be 100% sure, that new game will be more like TS2 - attraction system, wishes and fears, interesting traits et cetera.

Sims 2 attraction was not base game. It came with Nightlife and there where no traits, it had personalty chart you had so many points to spend.
Both are best in base game though, that i agree with.

The same can be said about complainers complaining about people showing disappointments. If you are happy with it be happy with it. The posts are not going to stop regardless of how much you do like it.

-They are not done yet, so much they can still add and improve on
-The game needs to feel complete and make sure all bugs are fixed.
But when is it "done"? When you say so, when X number of players say so? It'll be done when EA says it's done, which is when it's not making money for them.
And if you think EA is really going to fix the mounting number of bugs, given their track record of trying to distract players from old bugs by introducing new content that has new bugs, then I have a bridge in the desert to sell you.

I like your post and I agree
Thanks EA

If they can't do that, what would be the point of Sims 5 or expect it to be any better? It would just be starting over and expecting low quality.
We got a few more years, which I am glad as it means a better game and game that is actually playable.
We don't need a new Sims every five years until there is a major technologically breakthrough. I would be happy if they just updated Sims 2, don't need a Sims 5.
Lets make this a reality!
