I wish I could get a portrait for all my families but I guess its just for one family. I love it, and I love how if you change their outfit it will also change it on the portrait.
I've been dying for this feature for forever, so I went all the way: put in my phone number, downloaded the stupid game, and deleted it from my phone. Totally worth it, IMO.
I haven't explored much yet in the photography skill, but is there any other way to get pictures/portraits of Sims besides selfies? (I'm not talking about painted portraits, just photo ones.)

My family portrait is just two sims in their formal wear. You don't have to actually install the app (TSM) to get the portrait. Just put your cellphone number in and the frame will be added to your game!

I don’t have it yet, but my hope is that you can use the photography skill to take a picture of it before it changes each time. So my Sims can hang an old family photo up from when their kids were toddlers etc. Just wondering if the quality of it would look ok?

There's a lock interaction to freeze the portrait so it does not change.

You can use the photography skill to take pictures of individual Sims from your phone or camera. It should show up as 'Take Photo Of...', so it's a phone or camera photo without a selfie. You can also buy a photo studio which can be used to take a portrait of 1-2 Sims. Unfortunately mine is very buggy and has been for at least a year.
I just got the family portrait and I like it! I didn't think the frame style would go with my stuff either but it has kind of an art deco look and it looks great. I like that you can change the pose and the outfit and that it can have an emotional aura. Oh boy, I just noticed that I can change the frame color too.

Nope. Placed my first portrait in my primary Legacy house, and now I've just put one in my second Legacy's.

Yes. You can freeze multiple different portraits.

You can. I don't have sims mobile. I just put in my phone number and got the frame. No app needed.
