Small Space, Big Style Contest [CLOSED] DOCUSAT - Please Check In!

stud1copy.png

Your single Sim has been fortunate enough to inherit §60,000 for a new house. While your Sim doesn’t care what style the new house is, they do know that they would like either a studio or a loft house (less space to clean!)

Just because your space is small doesn’t mean you need to skimp on style. This is a mini contest, but with a couple twists along the way. Your task will be to build a house with ZERO bedrooms or a loft bedroom for a specific Sim (you do not need to upload this Sim) on a 10x10 or 15x10 plot of land. While your Sim has inherited simoleons, they don’t want to spend too much on store items. Your Sim only wants their ONE most favorite [store] item in their new house.

Welcome to “Small Space Big Style” hosted by aricarai!

    Judges:

    Rawr2019
    GreenCats
    LoreleyLee

    Custard Checker:

    tkbluebasketball

    Sponsors:

    Me - 7,800 simpoints
    ErnesaT - 2,000 simpoints
    Cassee - 5,000 simpoints

Judges and Sponsors are always welcome and appreciated, but definitely not required!

*Note: I would love to have someone that would volunteer to CUSTARD CHECK the entries*

    Judging Criteria:

    20 points: Layout/Overall Design
    20 points: Interior Design
    20 points: Landscaping
20 points: Functionality (no routing issues)
    20 points: Screenshots/Overall Presentation
    10 points: Followed Rules
    10 points: Wow Factor
    Total: 120 points

*You must enter a description in Edit Town Mode before you upload*

**Name your lot and include descriptions in your upload. A bunch of downloads that just say "Lot Name" makes it difficult (if not impossible if there are many of them) to identify them. This delays judging by days or weeks, as we try to figure out which "Lot Name" belongs to which entrant, requiring going in and back out of the game and re-visiting the contest thread to see if the pics "match" the in-game lot.

While they may show up in your studio or on the exchange with your descriptions and name that are given at the time you upload, if you don't put it in the edit function of the lot while you are in edit town before you upload, it will not be there when we download to our games. I hope this helps those who were unaware of this.**

    January 18th:

Q: Can we build in any world?

    A: Absolutely!

Q: What is the difference between a studio house and a loft house?

A: In my eyes, a studio house will only be one level with no bedrooms. The only door that should be in there is one to a bathroom (*note* this doesn't include closets or entryways as they are not technically rooms), everything else should be in the same room. A loft house will have a second floor with the bedroom up there, typically open to below, but again, counts as no bedrooms. Essentially one will be all on one level with ZERO bedrooms and the other will be two levels with ZERO bedrooms.

Q: Do we have to add a store item or is it optional?

A: Ooh, that's a good question - I'm going to say that as it's part of the entry form and the bit of back story that your Sim really only wants ONE item from the store, that it is mandatory. So it could be windows, a bed, a cabinet, a light - anything really! But only one, but this one item could be used multiple times if you wish.

UPDATE: THE PRIZE POOL IS NOW WORTH 7,000 simpoints worth of store items!

UPDATE: I've changed the entry form slightly to add - "Final Price"

Q: Is it possible to use the same store item more than once - curtains or windows for example?

    A: Absolutely!

UPDATE: THE PRIZE POOL IS NOW WORTH 9,000 simpoints worth of store items!

    January 19th:

UPDATE: I've updated the entry form again - please make sure that the favorite store item is for a specific Sim.

Q: Is it ok to put the bed on a platform ( the short, stage-like foundation in the game)?

    A: Yes, absolutely!

Q: Can the house have either a finished basement or a rooftop party/garden area?

A: Unfortunately not! Just the one or two levels for your Sim to access.

Q: Since one of the judging areas is "presentation", is it acceptable to edit my photos to enhance the colours etc. once I'm ready to upload?

A: That's a good question - I'll allow minimal editing, such as playing with brightness and contrast; however, could you make sure that the originals are provided somewhere to be looked at as well?

Q: Is it acceptable to create a house that has more than the allowed number of storeys, provided only one or two (depending on which entry) are used? I have an idea, but it demands decorative levels to get the full effect.

A: If I understand your question correctly, you may have extra levels as long as your Sim can't access them. In the same stroke, I will allow split leveling. Car ports underneath the house will not be counted, so they are allowed.

Q: Does the all in one bathroom work for this or do you want a real bathroom?

A: It's up to you - I'm not here to curb your creativity!

UPDATE: As the rules state, no mods are allowed; however, as long as they will not transfer in game, meaning, the judges won't need the mod in order to get the house to function correctly, this is fine.

Q: Just wondering if DrPepper items and other exclusive, now locked away items are allowed as your store content piece? Or would you prefer to only have content that's available to all now?

A: I'm going to have to say no on Dr. Pepper items, since I don't have them, and I wouldn't want it replaced with something else in my game. EDIT: I've changed my mind on this one - please just make sure that you have a picture of your store item in your presentation.

Q: Another question is do you want any landscaping done (pools, decks etc) Or would you prefer minimal?

A: This is completely up to you and creative style. Again, I'm not here to curb your creativity, but just be aware that landscaping is in the judging criteria. This will be judged on how it fits your build, so if minimal is what you are going for in your build, by all means, have the landscaping reflect this.

Q: Also, can we build half on the water with the IP foundations?

    A: Of course you can!

Q: Would it be ok if the studio had two floors but just one
that can actually be used, so to speak?

A: The studio can have two floors as long as the second one is not accessible to your Sim. Split leveling is okay though, so if you'd like a sunken area in your studio - I will allow that, but they couldn't have the bed, kitchen, dining, etc. on one level and then go up a second level for an skills area for example.

    January 23rd:

UPDATE: Check out this modern marvels link: here and add your lots!

Q: Are world items considered as store items? They don't always show up as "store items used" on my studio pages.

A: Yes, world items that have come from the Sims 3 Store will count as store items. Anything with a store content icon next it will count and can be used as your ONE item of store content.

    January 26th:

Q: Can buydebug items be used?

    A: Yep!

    January 28th:

UPDATE: THE PRIZE POOL IS NOW WORTH 10,000 simpoints worth of store items!

UPDATE: Please be aware of the below store content item. In many people's game it does not show a store icon, but indeed, it came with Lucky Palms. If you plan on using this window, please make sure that this is your ONE store content item as it will be counted as such.

    FEEDBACK!

Feedback continued from Judge Two here and here!

Below is feedback from the lovely GreenCats!

    Retro Modern Loft by okido1987
I’m afraid I somehow missed your name on the feedback list and am writing this quite a while after I judged your build, so please forgive me if I miss anything important! I thought this build was beautiful and innovative, and represented a very clever union of modern and retro styles, exactly as you described in your entry form. I especially appreciated the futuristic arbor, CASt-ed to look like part of the architecture. I found the interiors vibrant and unique, and thought you combined different colours and patterns with a superb mixture of creativity and control. The fabulous pool was my favourite part of the build, with its lovely retro fireplace. Tucked away down a flight of stairs, it really felt like a hidden grotto! However, I did question the placement of the bathroom, because my sims had privacy issues when trying to use the toilet while others were making their way to the pool. I liked your pictures a lot, but some were quite dark and a little too stretched out for my tastes.

I like the concrete walls and simple shape of this build and I think the Sawesome Windows are a good choice. I don’t like the central door and window choice, and feel a taller, two-tile door would have been a better option. While I appreciate your effort to add interest with the protruding stone walls, for me it seems like are unnecessarily fussy, are choking the windows, and are covered with a brick pattern that I find too bright and yellow. I know people are always saying box houses are bad, but take a stylish concrete slab like this, add some vibrant yet understated landscaping and some beautiful modern interiors, and I think it can really become something special without architectural frills.

Speaking of landscaping, I like the path up to the door, and the dirt under the mailbox and trashcan adds realism, but I want more! Nothing too distracting, just a nice neat row of shrubs maybe. Also, for modern builds like this floor tiles are usually better than terrain paints for creating pathways because they have much cleaner edges.

I think the interiors are mostly very strong. The two woods you have chosen complement one another, and I love how the patterns on the bed, desk chair, and two rugs work together. It was a nice idea to pick up on the colours in the pop art your sim painted and use them for the bar stools, but since they are right next to it I would have rather seen you use some colours from the picture by the bed. I think they would also have worked better with the neutral walls.

I like the idea of exposed brick, but as I’ve said I don’t like the colours of that particular pattern, and it also doesn’t tie in at all with the brick pattern on the counters. MOOing the cooker into the kitchen counter was really innovative. Sims like to put already cooked plates of food down on it, which is a minor annoyance, but otherwise it seems to work well. I did find a routing issue with the yellow bar stool though: my sims will sit down on it, but don’t seem to be able to eat food from that part of the counter.

I think this is a really pretty little build. The architecture is lovely, and I like the sliding, though it is a completely different (and much nicer) colour in my game than how it appears in your pictures so maybe you didn’t take them at the best time of day. My one big issue with this build is the all-in-one bathroom. I know you must have been very tight on space, but if you’re going to have an outhouse it should at least be recoloured to fit in with the build.

Inside, I am not keen on the flooring you’ve used because the one lighter channel seems a bit random, though this is mostly the fault of whoever at EA designed this particular floor style and totally neglected to make it seamless. However, I absolutely love the fresh, simple colour scheme downstairs, with the yellow kitchen, blue dining area, and green sofa. The patterns you have chosen are also very nice, and that picture above the sofa is beautiful. I really like the upstairs too, although it isn’t lit as well as it should be and I don’t understand why only some of the windows have curtains. I do love how you’ve CASted the dresser though – very pretty.

    3. YellowJane

    Greenway Modern-Studio Home by YellowJane

I really like the shape of this build, and I think the window style and placement are very good. The glass roof pieces look great, and are a creative way to get light into the kitchen, bedroom, and dining area. The sliding is a pretty colour, and sets off the grey brick walls and slate roof nicely.

The stone sculpture looks very good and the harvestable garden off to the side is very attractive, though unfortunately the low fence prevents sims from using it at all! I feel the rose bushes are a little too large and unwieldy for the build; also, the one closest to the front door is clipping through the wall.

There is a good amount of space downstairs, apart from maybe in the kitchen, which I think could have been expanded to take up some of the area currently occupied by the bathroom. The wood on the walls of the living area is clean and attractive, and works well for this Scandinavian-inspired build. I like the pattern on the bed, chairs, bookcase, and TV, but I feel it has been over-used. On the other hand, I think there are too many different patterns in play in the kitchen and the bathroom. Also, I would like to see more décor items in the bathroom, at the very least a mirror above the sink.

I like that you’ve used different floors throughout the build, but I would prefer the transition between them to seem more realistic, perhaps through the use of bordered floor pieces. To me the wooden flooring on the balcony needs to be less saturated, as it currently clashes with the sliding. I know it’s the same flooring as the one in the bedroom, but indoor and outdoor lighting work differently. Speaking of which, there is no artificial lighting upstairs, and inadequate artificial lighting in the downstairs living areas.

I have two more small issues: the ceiling is not painted, and the pattern on the rug upstairs is not seamless, though I assume that is the fault of whoever at EA designed it. The build does play nicely. Aside from the harvestable problem, the only fault I found was that sims couldn’t use the guitar at all.

I found your description of your build lucid and informative, and I enjoyed reading it. You showed pictures of all the key areas. I noticed that the indoor furniture was not always visible in your exterior shots - if you uncheck ‘enable object hiding’ in the graphics options (just while you’re taking pictures, if you’re worried about performance issues), that should fix it.

    Stoney Studio
I am sorry for the delay in getting these comments to you! I don't know how I missed your name on the feedback list.
I like the big windows, and having an easel by them means your sims can paint the views visible through them. Their red colour is a bold choice against the rustic stone, but for me it doesn't quite work. The shed style roof is nice, but could do with being a little higher, so that the half walls don't poke awkwardly over the top of it.
The bushes add some privacy by sheltering the build from the road, which I think is important, but they need some terrain paint under them. I also feel another tree further back on the left is needed to balance out the two at the front on the right. It's great that you've included a path up to front door, but I don't think the small fence lining it is the right colour and I think the flagstone texture is too busy and clashes with the wall pattern.
In fact, I think there are too many different stone textures in play throughout this build. It might have been better to stick to no more than two that complement one another really well, and/or to mix in wood, tiled, or wallpapered walls.
I understand from the title that stone is an important aspect of the design, but the rationale for some of the other choices that have been made isn't clear to me, and I think that having a more detailed description to read would have helped with this.
This looks like a nice home for sims to relax in, with the easel, computer, stereo, TV, and decently sized kitchen. The furniture choices are nice, but I think they need some CASting to create some more coherence and to make the build feel uniquely yours.
You have pictured most of the major areas of your build, which is good, but in your entry form they are very small. I also wonder whether they all show a finished version of the build, since in the third picture in your slideshow I see an unpainted wall that I do not remember noticing in-game. Remembering to take your pictures in live mode so there is no visible grid will improve your pictures.

    Glassy Loft
I like the simple, modern shape of this build. It is a nice idea to add interest by using two different exterior wall textures, but do not think they go very well together, and the one on the right definitely clashes with the roof colour. I also think the white windows should be CASted to blend in better. It can be nice to use windows as point of colour contrast, but I think there is too much already going on with this build for that to be desirable. The balcony is nice, and it will be fun for sims to be able to step out of the bedroom to use the telescope, though I would not have extended the balcony so far to the right. The skylight is a nice touch I think.
The hedge fence is neat and pretty, but some simple flowers or shrubs or a pathway leading to the back of the build could help tie everything together. I think the bikes look good in front of the build.
There are a lot of different stone patterns inside, and again I am struggling to find a point of coherence to the design. The country style kitchen counters to me don't go at all with the futuristic sitting area. However, I do like the details you've added, such as the flowers on the tables and the camera on the counter (I'm not sure why you've used an island counter here rather than a regular one?)
I do not like the colour of the wallpaper in the bedroom, and I think it could benefit from some blinds for privacy and light control, but otherwise I think the bedroom is very nice. I really like the picture of the bed with the view of the hills in the background. I'd like to see more pictures like this, nicely framed and without grid lines.

    5. jazen

    Beach Bum’s Dream by Jazen

This build has a cheerful, beachy feel to it. I like the yellow trim on the stairs and fences and I think the thatched roof is a great choice, though for me the blue shingles are too saturated. I also think the shape of the roof over the front porch is not ideal: the half-hipped roof tool would have been the better option. I like the door and window choices at the front and back of the build, but the large, modern windows at the sides are a surprising choice and I’m not sure their incorporation has been entirely successful.

The outdoor plants work well for the style of the build; some terrain paints could have made them look even more realistic. While absolutely symmetrical landscaping would not be appropriate here, I do feel that the sizes and placements of the trees need to be more balanced.

I think the objects inside are very good choices, and I especially like the wicker chair and the bathroom door. (I love the boat bookshelf too, but unfortunately this is an additional store item, which is not allowed.) I think you were right not to over-coordinate a casual, eclectic seaside build like this, but I do feel the colour combinations need work and that the interiors are over-reliant on preset styles. The rug would need to be a deeper blue to stand up against the strong red of the bar stools, and to my eye the bed frame clashes with both the floor and the walls.

There are lots of nice touches to this build, like the plants above the TV and the hanging parrot, but I think there are also areas that could benefit from more attention. The blinds in the bedroom don’t reach to the top of the windows, the ceiling is unpainted, one of the porch plants is clipping into the open window, and there is not enough lighting. As a result, the pictures you have shared are quite dark, but otherwise I think you’ve done a good job of photographing and describing your build. It is also very nice that there are places for sims to sit out and enjoy the sun. Inside, the only routing issue I found was that working out in front of the TV can block access to the bedroom.

    6. Sandraelle

    Waterfront Studio by Sandraelle
This fresh, modern home is certainly very easy on the eyes. The light wood, cool white paint, and grey corrugated roof all go wonderfully together, and are a perfect fit for the build. It has a great shape to it, and the use of the Lucky Palms windows is very striking and effective. I like the roofline from some angles, but not all of them, because I find the join between the roof sections a bit awkward. My only other small criticism of the exterior would be that, while I like the stone pattern you’ve used for the foundations, the transition between it and the white walls seems a little abrupt and unnatural.

The two-story interior is at once dramatic and laid back. I love how the clean, relaxing blues, reds and whites subtly expand upon the nautical theme established by the life preserver hanging outside the front entry. The patterns you have chosen are pretty and I think work very well together. I like the grey slate tiles in the living and dining areas and the soothing blue carpet in the bedroom. All the clutter items are well chosen and have been nicely recoloured. The lighting design is very good, an especially commendable achievement given what a nightmare white walls can be to light. The only place I can fault it is on the closet door, which is much darker than the bathroom door. It is nice that you’ve included a laundry basket in the bathroom, but unfortunately there is no washer, so those dirty clothes are just going to keep piling up!

I found your pictures attractive, well-lit, and interesting, and felt they represented your build very well. There is a slight gap between your lot and the road, which means your terrain paints don’t look as realistic as they should, but it is hardly noticeable. I enjoyed your description very much, and thought it had a great balance of backstory and details about the build.

    City Loft by Sandraelle

I think this build is absolutely superb. I love how you’ve made such a feature of the chimney, with the flowers arranged around it, I think the black windows look great, and the skylights are a lovely touch. I also think you have photographed it very well, and that all your pictures are very fun and full of energy. I appreciate that you have managed to get a shot of the skylights from below in as well. Just a couple of them are too stretched out for my liking, but I understand some spaces are very tricky to capture. My one other teeny weeny criticism is that I can see no conventional daytime street view of the whole front of the build – only a street in which the top of the build isn’t visible, a bird’s eye view, and a night view.

I really enjoy the landscaping you’ve done for this build. The paving stones are just right for the location you show in your pictures, the planters and other flora at the front of the build look gorgeous, and the patio at the back is functional and very cute. The colour scheme is very simple, but this has allowed you to play around with different textures and patterns in very effective ways. I love the metal shaft that snakes round the upper level.

    7. walkingstick

Surf's up Container Home by walkingstick
This is such a playful, creative build. I really love the bold parrot sign, the natural roof, and of course the palm tree store item. The rocks outside are a nice touch, but I think the build could have benefited from just a bit of shrubbery on the ground dotted about to create a realistic, overgrown look.

The interiors are bursting with personality. The CASt-ing is inspired, and you have cleverly balanced lots of different, busy patterns to great effect. I especially like what you’ve done with the outdoor kitchen. The attention to detail is also very impressive. I love all the nautical touches, like the hanging swordfish and the adorable shark bean bag.

Being the nit-picker that I am, I did find some small complaints with the interiors. The lighting on the pictures is a little uneven, causing some of them to be brighter than others at night time. Also, I feel the bathroom is maybe a little lacking in interest, but only in comparison to the rest of the build, which is so very strong, and I know it is difficult to do much with a tiny room like this.

The layout is appropriate for the home’s relaxed character and is generally well thought out. There are two small pathing problems. The first is that if one sim is using the computer, others will not be able to get past to use the bathroom, which may become an issue when Roxi is entertaining guests, as she likes to do (and I’m sure you know how guests love to head straight for the computer – so rude!). The second is the same problem with one of the dining chairs.

I like how your description gives a bit of backstory about Roxi and explains why this particular home is right for her. The pictures are very nice but in my opinion don’t quite do justice to how pretty the build is in-game. They are a little out of focus and almost all taken from ceiling level, which doesn’t give the most flattering angles. Your entry form and pictures definitely sold me on the build, but I had to get it in game to see quite how special it is.

    8. Docusat

Water Tower Studio Apartment by Docusat
The water tower is such a fun idea and I love the backstory you wrote for it. The build seems a little top-heavy to me at the moment, and could maybe benefit from some additional height. I like the graffiti a lot, but think the exterior could be improved by having even more of it; as it is, it seems a little plain to me. Those issues aside, I like the overall design.

I think the interiors have been really creatively designed. I like the crazy colours, and the varied wall textures add interest and realism. The graffiti also works really well. It’s great that you managed to fit that big dance mat in. It does mean that sims have to go downstairs to play the guitars, but I don’t see that as a huge problem.

The bathroom is my favourite area. It’s very vibrant and detailed, and I especially like the neon lights curving round above the mirror. The area by the bed is my least favourite part, just because it seems a little less interesting to me than the rest. I also don’t like the use of the same striped blue fabric on the bed and chair. It is such a dominant pattern, and reusing it on objects placed so close to one another doesn’t seem to be to fit in with the spirit of the build.

The overgrown landscaping is definitely right for the build, but doesn’t feel quite as natural as I would like. More detailed terrain painting and overlapping the different shrub types with one another would probably help with this.

    Banba Lofts by Docusat

This build seems very friendly and inviting to me. It has a cute, compact shape, and I like the lovely blue wood and the colour of the windows. The interiors are spacious yet homely. Highlights for me are the black and white photography, the pretty bedspread and the beautiful kitchen design. I like the idea of the exposed brick walls, but I’m not too keen on the actual pattern you’ve chosen – it doesn’t seem as realistic as some of the other textures that are available, though perhaps that was the point. I think the pictures you’ve included with your entry are generally very good, but some of them are a little dark, so should perhaps have been taken at a different time of day. The picture of your sim enjoying her new kitchen is fun.

    9. ladysilver814

Little Cabin in the Big Woods by LadySilver814
This looks like a really cosy little cabin. I love the roofline is nice and I find the stairs leading up to the front porch very charming and inviting. I think the cfe work is great, but I would like it even better if the ceilings were painted. Having wooden walls and floors is fine for this type of build, but I would expect to see a few rugs scattered around to make things feel more homely. I would also expect a more rustic, cluttered look if there is going to be such a strong emphasis on dark wood. I think the build would also benefit from some curtains. I really like the pattern on the bed, and it is nice to see some sim made art.

    Mocha ChocaLofte  by LadySilver814
Such an interesting build, with great cfe work. I like the car port at the back and all the lovely big windows. The roofline is creative but seems a bit messy to me. I enjoyed looking over your entry form, but I think it would have been very useful to suggest a location for this build, since it is built on a slope and therefore site-specific. That said, I’m not sure the location in the pictures is the best one for it, because the only place any cars in the carport have to go is into the river!
I like your interior design and I think you’ve done some really create CASt work, especially downstairs. I think this could be showed off even better if the rooms were more brightly and unevenly lit. Also, the blue light in the bathroom confuses me. I really like the plants arranged under the stairs, and the placement of the dining table and computer desk in front of large windows where the views will be best.

    10. brivenes

    The Seaside Loft by brivenes

I think the shape of this build is fabulous, and the window placement is great. I really like the marigold and pansy planter boxes you’ve constructed, though their arrangement on the third floor (all grouped together on the right) seems a little random to me. It’s a great idea to have the easel positioned for painting views, as you mention in your description. It is also nice to have lawn space (off to the right of the build), but I think there’s a missed opportunity here for some additional landscaping.

The interior design is very cheerful, and I love the shelves and butterflies beside the TV. I like the shade of yellow you’ve chosen, but I don’t think the carpet colour works with it, and in general I feel that the yellow and blue/grey combination has been overused.

    Mini Blue Cottage by brivenes

What an adorable little cottage! It’s like something out of a fairy tale. The pagoda roof is really lovely. The floating sections to the sides are maybe a little awkward, though understandable given the fantasy nature of the build. I just wonder whether perhaps moving the roof down one story would give a better effect. I love the blues, inside and out, and the stone and brick interior walls are just right. I like all of the clutter and wall décor choices you’ve made. I also think you’ve made really great use of the available space, and the build plays very nicely.

The flagstone path up to the front door is nice but could be blended in better with the surrounding grass by layering different terrain paints; also, in your pictures, it does not connect with the sidewalk. The little hedge and gate are very cute, and it’s useful to have a couple of harvestables to the side of the house, but this narrow garden is a difficult size. It’s too small to function as a lawn, and as it is it’s lacking in interest, so maybe some flowers could have been added or some more harvestables and perhaps a little path going round the house. However, I think the flowers you have at the front are really beautiful. They introduce a lovely burst of colour, and the tall sunflowers nicely balance out the off-centre door placement.

    11. Meg1626

    Affjordable Loft by Meg1626

I love the shape and colours of this build – the gorgeous modern design, the sleek, Scandinavian wall and floor textures, the vibrant landscaping, and the sophisticated brown, blue, and grey interiors. I enjoyed reading the rationale for all of this in your entry form. The ground floor furnishings are beautifully laid out and CASt-ed, and I think the bedroom arrangement works very well. As you’re aware, the bed doesn’t show up in the version you entered, but I saw this as a bizarre bug that couldn’t have been anticipated, so didn’t take any points off for it.

I absolutely adore the bathroom. The way you’ve created the shower area using the window, fence, and varied wallpaper is really clever and effective, and the recoloured towels add a lovely personal touch. My only complaint about this room is that when sims sit on the toilet their head clips through the lowest shelf! There are a few other small details elsewhere that could benefit from adjustment: the atrium and space below it could be lit more evenly, as could the exterior of the build at night time; painting a large canvas at the easel causes clipping; and, while it’s great that you’ve been able to include an outdoor eating area, the grill doesn’t seem to be routable.

I found your description informative and entertaining and your pictures very attractive. I don’t think there’s much room for improvement here, except maybe that some of the pictures in the slideshow seemed a little redundant, and that there could have been more references to specific facilities (e.g. patio, study area, etc.).

    Studio G by Meg1626

I really love the shape and colours of this unique build. The converted garage concept is great and I think the garage door works especially well. Unfortunately when I place it in my game, the roof gets pushed up into a weird shape. This isn’t the usual floating ceiling tiles issue – rather, they’re solid, complete tiles visible from all angles, which I think are caused by CFE work too close to the edge of the lot. The mailbox is also in a funny place, presumably because MOO has been used to place it. These are small, fixable problems though. The outdoor plants are well chosen and nicely placed, though one of the bamboo trees is poking through the wall.

The interiors are detailed, attractive, creative, and functional. I love the exposed brick walls, split level effect, and bold colour combinations. The shelves, clutter, and clever use of columns are also highlights for me, and it’s great that you’ve fitted so many different activity objects in for sims to enjoy. Perhaps it might be nice to have some curtains over the garage door for bedroom privacy. I also think the lighting design could do more to conceal the seam between the two levels, especially in the bedroom. At night time, this is also an issue outside.

Your pictures are comprehensive and attractive, though I feel that some of them are a little stretched out and taken at awkward angles. I would also have liked to have seen at least one exterior shot taken during the day time. I enjoyed reading your entry form, and liked the backstory you put in.

    12. yanti68

    Lofty Dreams by yanti68
I love the architecture of this build. It’s very deco and feels much larger and grander than its tiny 8x13 footprint. The shape is fabulous, and the gleaming white walls are perfect for the build. However, for something this elegant, it seems a little odd to me to have the main entrance be a garage door. What makes this even more of a problem is that my sims don’t seem to be able to get into the build unless I manually open the garage door.

It’s great to have the extra height the fourth floor brings, though it might have been a good idea to use a hidden room marker so that we can’t see it’s empty up there. I really like the tile you’ve chosen for the driveway, and the hedge is very neat and pretty, but I think that soil terrain paint is seriously in need of some flowers planted in it – something bright and relatively tall to do justice to the verticality and grandeur of the architecture.

I like the use of glass, metal, animal prints, and geometric designs inside your build. The glass floor in the bedroom is fun and futuristic. The all-in-one bathroom is convenient and is CASted to blend in nicely with the living room, but I feel like this kind of home would probably have a more elaborate bathroom. I love the gangway-like entrance to the bedroom, with its railings and direct view down to the lower floor, although the lighting here is a bit uneven, making the seam between the two floors very obvious. The spacious garage is a nice addition but stylistically I don’t feel its furnishings fit with the rest of the build. Also, I think you forgot to paint the ceilings here and in the bedroom.

    13. CSIMSIE

    Small Hall by CSIMSIE

I like the general style of this build, kind of an interesting modern Mediterranean blend with a strongly masculine tone. The roofline is striking and I love the idea behind it, though I feel like the end result is a bit too busy. Also, in real life, those side pieces sloping so steeply inwards would cause huge drainage problems, even in warm, dry climates.

I also like a lot of what you’ve done inside the house, especially with the blue tones that complement so nicely the woods you’ve chosen. I do think you’ve relied too heavily on preset colours and patterns, which are rarely particularly attractive or interesting. That’s a shame, because when you’ve created original styles using CASt, such as with the nice pattern on the dining table or the beautiful bathroom wall, I think they are very successful.

The bathroom is my favourite space in the house – with its bold blue floor and big modern mirror, it knows exactly what it’s about. Again, though, I feel the preset style for the shower lets the room down slightly and does not complement the other elements as well as it could have.

The kitchen, for me, is the weakest space. As the home of your chosen store piece, I would love to see it really shine, but I feel that everything is a little confused. The oven (another preset) is too saturated a colour, the neat, modern tiles on the wall are warring with the rustic grace of the bread oven, and I find the brown and grey floor tiles rather dingy.

I have three other general complaints about the interiors. Firstly, the bushes are poking through the walls when the build is viewed from certain angles. Secondly, the ceiling is not painted (or tiled, etc.). Thirdly, the lighting is rather uneven, with the walls and wall décor being too dark and the windows being too bright. However, it’s really great that there is no excess bloom on the white parts of bed.

I think the layout of the build is good, and it is really lovely to play for such a small space. The half walls help define different zones, there is plenty of counter space in the kitchen, and I like the platform for the bed. The only small pathing issue I found was that if a sim is sitting at the dining table, that side of the bed can’t be accessed, but I don’t see that as too much of a problem because the build was meant for a single sim, who presumably wouldn’t be going to bed if they had guests eating dinner at the table. Still, having to eat right by the bathroom is maybe not the nicest thing, so I do think the placement of the table was a mistake, though I also understand that 8x8 is incredibly small space with which to work, and I think you’ve done a great job.

I would have liked a more detailed description, and would particularly have enjoyed reading about the style of the build, its amenities, and what kind of sim might live there. Your pictures are clear and attractive, but I wanted to see more, including eye-level shots of your interior design and back and side views of the house.

    The Abstract Loft by CSIMSIE

This studio is very interesting, and I like the recesses at the sides of the house. I feel the roofline either needs to be more abstract or more traditional – to me it seems caught in an awkward halfway place. As I said of your other entry, I would have liked a more detailed description and further pictures in your entry form. You also forgot to add an in-game description for your build.

The Cyprus trees are a clever touch, because anything else would either have been too wide to fit or would have been dwarfed by the height of the build. However, I do feel a little more landscaping could have been done. It is difficult to landscape a build on such a small lot, but I spotted some missed opportunities. Terrain paint under the trees could give them a realistic look, and the recesses at the sides of the build could be filled with very simple, neat flowers or shrubs – nothing to distract from the abstract architecture, just enough to add a bit of subtle interest. I also think the terrain paint up to the front door is a little messy and does not suit the style of the build; floor tiles might have been a better option.

The lovely windows you have chosen certainly let the light flood in, but I think their placement makes the outside of the build look too crowded, especially with their black colour contrasting so strongly with the white walls of the house. Choosing wallpapers that did more to integrate them into the design of the build might have ameliorated this issue.

Inside, I also feel that the windows are very dominant, and that the interior design, though nice in itself, is not sufficiently clean or striking enough to complement them. The layout of this build also seems rather strange. Having the all-in-one bathroom right by the door breaks up the flow of the downstairs in an awkward way, and it is also not coloured in any way that makes sense for the build. Your floor plan is quite spacious, and I think there would have been plenty of space to add a more traditional bathroom, something very slick and modern like the lovely one in your other build, or at least to tuck the all-in-one-bathroom away in one of your recesses so that it’s not so obtrusive. Having the bar upstairs is a fun touch, but since there is no equivalent downstairs, guests will have to go up to the bedroom to get their drinks, which maybe is what the owner wants, but surely not all the time. The dining platform is a very nice idea, but in order to be effective I think it needs more symmetrical arrangements surrounding it. As things stand, it looks a little random, at least to me. However, the build does play nicely and I found no pathing issues.

The walls are well lit, though there is a clear transition between the first and second stories. Lighting two-story rooms is a pain, and the join will always be visible, but can be minimised more, especially if your windows placement is the same on both stories like yours is. Also, you forgot to paint your ceilings, and there are magical floating lights in the atrium.

I would also like to see more decor, nothing to clutter things up too much, but some flowers on the bedside and dining tables might look very stylish. On the other hand, I don’t think the pan rack is right for the build, at least not hanging alone in its current placement. In modern kitchens, things tend to be tucked away – or, if they are on display, they are made more of a feature.

I do really like the upstairs bedroom, with its lovely artwork. The purple of the bar stools (a preset that’s actually nice!) picks up the purple in the painting well. However, there are eight different colours of wood in play in this small space (bookshelves, bed & end tables, bar & sofa, painted dresser, floor, and three on the stairs). That might be nice for quirky little cottage full of odds and ends, but your build requires something much cleaner. Add to this the colours of the paintings and books, the bedspread, the gold lights, and the black windows, and consider the fact that this area overlooks downstairs and all of the colours that adds, and it is just far too much.

    14. BrusterBrown

Beach Side Artist Loft by BrusterBrown

This casual, modern build seems very attractive to me, and I find the landscaping cheerful and inviting. Bamboo and marigolds aren’t the obvious choice for a beachside lot, but I think they work very well.

Inside, various patterns and colours have been combined successfully and creativity. I particularly enjoy your use of sim-created art. The sunken living room is a fantastic way of separating different functional spaces, and adds dynamism to the shape of the build’s interiors. The floor-to-ceiling windows here are really stunning.

I think you presented your build to us very well, but it might have been helpful for you to show us exactly where to place the build (see Rockleyfamily’s entry for an example), since it was built on a slope and therefore can’t be plopped down just anywhere.

    15. jenny0786

    Mini Doll House by jenny0786
This is a very pretty, feminine build, with neat, well-designed architecture, and simple but attractive landscaping. I would have expected a fairytale Victorian from its title, but I think the more contemporary style you’ve chosen is still very charming. The roof especially is nicely done.

Inside, though, I feel things are a little confused. I do not think the buttery walls with their elegant moulding go with the shades of pink you have chosen. Perhaps a softer, warmer pink, used a lot more sparingly would have been a better choice. I think the pink rugs are definitely too much, especially since, to my eye, it clashes with the red and orange stencils on the Supernatural rug. I am all for mixing different styles together, but it has to be done with care. The futuristic bedroom furniture and brightly coloured pop art do not work for me at all. The interior wall to the right of the front door is a nice way of separating off the study area, but I don’t think it is right for the build. The grey metal fire place is pretty, and I like how you have arranged the décor objects on top of it, but to me it doesn’t seem to tie in with anything.

There are also some lighting issues. The kitchen overhead cabinets are unevenly lit, though I understand that this is very difficult to get right. There is a lot of bloom on the window frames, especially upstairs. This can be remedied either by darkening the colour or moving a light right up close to them. Conversely, the ‘Celebration of Leaves’ wall décor is too dark because of the light directly above it – this seems counterintuitive, I know, but the game has some pretty weird lighting rules. Finally, at night time, the upper atrium is much brighter than the living area below.

However, I really like many of the individual elements of your interior design. The shelving under the stairs is very attractive, and I love how you’ve displayed the trophies on it; the breakfast bar is elegant and the chairs are a beautiful colour. Also, from most angles there isn’t too much bloom on the kitchen counters, which is difficult to achieve, and I appreciate that you’ve upgraded things - especially the fireplace so that rug doesn’t catch fire! Perhaps even more importantly, the build plays very nicely indeed. It feels surprisingly spacious for its actual size, and I found no routing problems at all.

I enjoyed reading your description and looking at your pictures, but a lot of the interior shots are quite stretched out, presumably from zooming too far back in tab mode. Strangely, your cover shot is too stretched out vertically, though I’m not sure why – perhaps something you did when you were editing them?

    16. BakingNerd

    Eclectic tucsan studio by BakingNerd

I think this build is absolutely stunning. The intricate roofline is to-die-for, and so perfect for the style, and the archways and the weathervane are beautiful touches. The worn-away plaster is a beautiful colour and very realistic, and I also love the exposed bricks on the archway columns. The balcony looks fantastic, though its roof could perhaps be a closer colour to the roof of the rest of the build. The window boxes also look lovely, and I think the styles of window you’ve chosen are spot on and that you’ve placed them perfectly. I love how you’ve used different exterior wall textures to add interest. I’m not actually too keen on the particular brown stone pattern you’ve used on some of the gables, but I understand that creating realistic stone and masonry styles is very difficult.

Using the rollercoaster pieces to create your arbour is complete genius - I hope you don’t mind if I steal this idea! I also like that you incorporated it into the story behind the build in your entry form. It’s great that you included so many harvestables with the build, and arranged them in a way that seems natural and appropriate for the build. The pansies, marigolds, and roses are beautifully positioned and look great together. I think is so clever how you’ve used shrubs to create the appearance of ivy; it looks really good. I am really going to have to fish for areas for improvement, because I basically think the landscaping here is perfect, but I guess layered terrain paints could be used to make the pathways and back patio look more realistic and less painted-on.

I find the interior design beautiful, technically proficient, well suited to the build, and full of wonderful personal touches. The two patterns on the painted walls are very pretty and look great together; they also go well with the two different tiled sections in the bathroom and kitchen. The patterns on the curtains are also lovely. The display with the sea chest looks fantastic; the lid clips through the shelf when it is opened, but I suppose that wouldn’t happen too often. I also love how you MOOed together the cabinets and shelves in the bedroom area, and the bits and pieces of clutter on the coffee table look great. I like how you’ve CASted the fire jacket – I didn’t even know that was possible, but it’s a great idea. The only small area I can find to criticise is the lighting, which needs just a bit of tweaking. The curtains in the bedroom area are unevenly lit, and lighting the planter box in the front porch from above has made the box look too dark from the front. Also, the exposed stone wall in the bedroom area is under-lit, which makes it look a bit more grungy and industrial than I think you intended.

I think your pictures are beautiful. My one suggestion would be to include a shot of the front of the build in direct sunlit: the picture you have of it as a little shadowy, so doesn’t show off your lovely CASt work to best advantage.

    Sage Cottage by BakingNerd

This is such a gorgeous little cottage, with a beautiful roofline that is complex without being flashy or unrealistic. I think the blue shutters are lovely and the greenhouse is a nice addition. The flower arrangements are very pretty, though I feel the pathway could be made to look a little less painted-on. I find the interior design soft and welcoming, and think it is a perfect match for the outside of the build. I especially like the fireplace in the bedroom and was delighted to discover it was usable behind the monorail fencing. I think a softer, more even lighting design could make these stunningly beautiful rooms look even more lovely. I only found one routing issue, but it is quite a major one: sims in my game can go up the spiral stairs but can’t come back down again!

    17. Moosenhagen

    Stoneweald Studio by Moosenhagen
Unfortunately for me your build didn’t scan clean in custard, so I had to judge it by pictures only. (It’s probably just the photo frame on the dresser confusing custard, the way they sometimes do, but I don’t like to take chances with what I put in my game.) I think I really like the design of your build, especially the shed style roof and the arbor, but it is difficult to tell from the pictures because the front view does not show the entire façade, and there are no exterior shots from other angles. The shrubs at the front of the build look very nice to me, and I think the little gnome is cute. The side patio looks like a nice place for sims to spend time. The interior spaces look functional and do not have clashing colours, but to me are slightly lacking in interest. There are also three problems that adding a flat roof below the slanted one would solve – uneven lighting between the first floor and the triangular space above it, an interior wall separating the kitchen and living room that does not reach all the way up to the ceiling, and ceiling lights that appear to be floating in mid air.

    18. leep45508

Leep's Little Lofty Lot by leep45508

This pretty little lot is a lovely mixture of stylish modern design and quaint, homely touches. The shape of the build is simple but effective, and I find the landscaping really charming – elegant, well-balanced, and perfectly suited to the build. My one tiny complaint about the exterior of the build is that you seem to have used MOO to place the mailbox, which in my game has caused it jump to an undesirable place at the front of the lot.

The build plays very nicely with the one exception I found being that one of the dining room chairs is not usable. It was considerate of you to upgrade the appliances. Aesthetically, the interior design shows both creativity and control. The colours and patterns work very well together, and your understanding of balance and proportion is inspiring. Anywhere you’ve created an asymmetrical arrangement, you’ve cleverly included some other subtle element to even things out.

I love the vibrant, stylish kitchen. The TV is a nice touch, but since sims can’t multi-task, they just have to stand in the middle of the room to watch it. Also, this is a small point, but sims working out in front of it can sometimes block access for others to the sink and/or fridge. The bathroom is very detailed and attractive, though I am not sure how I feel about the glass door, particularly with the toilet being in clear view of the dining table!

The upstairs bedroom is lovely, especially the heart shape you’ve created above the bed, though I do feel that the lighting here, and in fact all over the build, is a little uneven. The painting and dresser on the right are much more brightly illuminated than those on the left, and there is an obvious divide between the upper and lower parts of the atrium, during both night and day. The walls could also have been lit a bit better, especially behind the downstairs bookcase, where it is very dark. For such a bold, modern build, I’d love to see those white walls a lot cleaner, to really make your fabulous design work pop.

    Shadow Studio by leep45508

The exterior of the build is welcoming and attractive, and I like the wood and stone combination. I feel that the mailbox should have been recoloured; as it is, it looks a little out of place to me. Also, when I place the lot in my game, the bin jumps to right in front of the front door.

To me, your landscaping seems absolutely perfect. The shrubs and rocks at the back add interest to a wall that would otherwise lacking in it, the harvestable garden is very cute, and the flowers and shrubs at the front exhibit an excellent balance of wildness and control, making the build seem so much more inviting. The hanging plants complete the picture superbly.

I like the colours you have used inside, and the shapes you have created are very elegantly balanced. I love the flow of this build, from all angles. The workstation is a fabulous idea, and looks excellent, but unfortunately causes my sims to reset when they try to sell paintings from it, so paintings have to be sold in buy mode. Also, there is a bit too much bloom on the canvas for my tastes.

I love the rich, sandy colours you’ve used in the kitchen, although to my eye the bright pink of the flowers does not work with the greens, yellows, and browns you’ve used through the rest of the build (but I do enjoy how you’ve placed them inside those ITF pots). I like the different wall textures, but I’d like a neater transition between the wallpaper and exposed stone, as currently it makes the stone just look painted on. The bathroom is very pretty, and the hanging fireplace is fun, but I don’t like the busy, modern wall tiles next to the busy, rustic stone, as it seems like they’re fighting with one another for attention.

I like how you described your build, and you’ve taken nice pictures of your build, but aricarai did ask that originals be provided where filters or colour edits have been applied.

    19. Rockleyfamily

    Beach Life by Rockleyfamily

I like the shape and textures of this build, and it looks great in your pictures in your chosen location. The roofline is creative, but to me seems a bit awkward. The pod lamps, cattail, sunbathing area mermaid sign, and buckets of flowers all work well, but I feel the empty areas of deck could have been improved by some planters and general clutter.

The interiors are imaginative, detailed, and in keeping with the theme of the build. Again, I like the patterns you’ve chosen, and I think your use of floor and wall space is really great. I love the graffiti and all the clutter. I only have four small complaints: the dartboard is unroutable, some of the windows are unevenly lit, the ‘Flood Lamp’ is clipping through the potted plant, and larger paintings created at the easel clip through the walls.

    20. calmorezoo

    Solo Solar by calmorezoo
The unique roofline gives this build an interesting shape. I like it a great deal, but there are a few places I feel it could be neatened up. The roof sections do not join together as seamlessly as they should, and I would also prefer not to see torn roofing through the front windows. I enjoy the bright and friendly landscaping, but wonder whether something tidier and more futuristic would be more appropriate for the build.

I love the floor and wall patterns inside, and using them throughout the build makes a bold statement, but for me it feels a little repetitive and oppressive, particularly in the bedroom area, which is meant to be a relaxing space. The stripes also create a problem for the TV projector, because they are still visible behind it when it is turned on.

I think all of the major furnishings were great choices for the build. The wall sculpture in the dining area looks good, but it is so tall and wide that to me it seems to create an imbalance between the different wall spaces, which are already asymmetrical because of the window placement, so need to be decorated with extra care.

The build is well-lit, apart from the entrance hallway, which I think could benefit from some additional lighting. I like the dramatic hanging lights, but feel they would have more impact if there were fewer of them (if some were substituted for less attention-grabbing light fixtures).

I love that you included some backstory in your entry form, though it could have perhaps been even better if there were more details about the build itself. I liked your pictures but wanted to see more of them.

    Swirly Heights by calmorezoo

From the outside, this definitely feels like an affordable, contemporary city loft. I like the shape, window placement, and roofline. However, I think the front-facing gabled roof section would look better more aligned with the main hipped roof, I don’t understand why the cement between the bricks is neon green, and don’t think the glass door from SN is appropriate for the build.

Inside, there is a good amount of space, and the build plays very nicely. There is a mid-century vibe going on here, and in theory the poppy and sea mist coloured tiles in the kitchen and bathroom fit in well with this, but in practice I think they are overpowering, and make it difficult for my eyes to find somewhere to rest comfortably. I do like the swirly red wallpaper though. I also like the grey curtains, but they don’t reach to the top of the windows, and in the bedroom they are unevenly lit and clipping into the bedside tables. I find the space behind the dresser intriguing; I don’t really understand its function, but suspect this is more from my own shortcomings than the build’s.

I think the mulch terrain paint is a nice choice, but some simple planters might make the build appear even more attractive. I would also have liked the terrain paint to end less abruptly. Since this is a city build, perhaps Bridgeport would have been a more suitable location for the photo shoot.

That Small Studio 1BD 1BA by DrewRavida
The architecture and landscaping are attractive and have a modern, Asian, masculine feel that I love. The interior design continues these themes and in general is very well executed and realistic. The pale pinks of the chairs and sofa do not quite work for me with the colour of wood you’ve used. And I think the pink flowers are too bright and brash a choice, especially next to that colourful poster above the TV. But these are really just me looking for things on which to comment – overall I think you have done fabulous work creating a stylish and coherent design, inside and out.
The layout is mostly very clever and effective. It is nice to have the bed tucked away for privacy. The bathroom arrangement is a great idea and looks lovely, but in practice causes very big problems, because no one will be able to use it if the owner has guests round!
You have done a wonderful job photographing such small areas. I would have liked to have seen a slightly more detailed description of the house’s features.

That Loft 1 BD BA by DrewRavida

I find the exterior design of this build interesting and attractive but slightly uncontrolled, and since there is no parking space I do not understand what the downstairs area is for. The landscaping is simple but I think it works well. I find the interior layout appealing and easy to navigate. The bathroom will be unusable if guests have snuck upstairs to use the computer, though upstairs is clearly meant as a very private space, so I don’t see this as too huge a design flaw.
I find the kitchen less engaging than other parts of the loft. I like the decision to use a different wood colour here, but feel the strong yellowy tones are not quite right for the colour scheme of the rest of the build. I also think the break in the cabinets is a little awkward, which is particularly noticeable given how sophisticated the other areas look. I do like the extra table here though, providing a choice between informal and formal dining.
Overall though, I find the interiors very stylish and well-balanced. I love grand atrium, the creamy palette, and the choice of wallpaper. By day, with natural light flooding in through those lovely windows, everything feels soothing and spacious. By night, the flame tinted hue you’ve added to the lighting creates buttery tones that are warm and inviting without being sickening. In fact, the lighting design strikes me as a very strong feature of this build. The chandelier above the main living area is beautiful, modern, and perfect for the build. I think the strip lighting by the windows works exceptionally well, and it’s great that there is no obvious divide between the upper and lower parts of the atrium.

    Maple Leaf Cottage by ablueidgirl2
The combination of stone and wood exteriors looks very nice. How you’ve done the gabled roof is very interesting – I’ve never seen that before, but I think I like it. The bench dining table I think works very well for the build, and it was a clever idea to use rugs to create a complex kitchen floor. It’s great that you’ve set aside a whole room for harvestables but have still made space for living areas that don’t feel cramped at all. My only issue with this is whether the greenhouse counts as an extra room, since it is definitely enclosed and part of the house.

The storage space above the front door is really lovely, but needs to be lit better. In fact, this goes for the whole second floor. I like the bedspread and curtain choices, and I think it’s wonderful to have the desk in front of that big window. The archways MOOed together with the half wall and columns is a really nice idea.

Luxury Studio For Vacation by AIRIS6962
There is so much to love about this build. I think the architecture is really great, and I love the dark wood and green. The combined wallflowers and lighting display is very nice, as are the MOOed back windows. The setup in the living area is very pretty, and the red kitchen is bold but effective. The windows between the two add interest and open up the space in a creative way. I like the way you have arranged the bathroom, especially having the sink outside it. I would have preferred to see a separate kitchen sink or dishwasher though, as doing the dishes in this pretty bathroom sink doesn’t seem right to me. The bed has a nice pattern on it, and I like how you have MOOed the objects around it. I think the retro wall panels look really wonderful above the bed and on the half wall at its foot. Unfortunately the mirror is not usable. The landscaping is nice but doesn’t blend in as well with its surroundings as I would have liked. Your entry form was very informative and I enjoyed reading it. I found your pictures beautiful, but would liked to have seen unedited versions as well, as requested in the rules.

    Concrete Modular Loft by AIRIS6962

I really like the style of this beautiful modern build. I think the stilted foundations work really well, and I enjoy how their shape is echoed in the columns further up. I love all the wall art you have used inside, and it’s great you’ve managed to fit in so many activity objects without making the space look cramped. Unfortunately there is no space to use the guitar you’ve placed in the bedroom, but everything else seems to be routable. I think all the clever MOOing you’ve done has been very successful, with the exception of the TV poking through the exterior walls; I assume this was a deliberate choice, but I don’t like it. The lighting is generally very good, with the exception of on the bookshelves above the bed, which look wonderful during the day, but are dark and uneven at night time. I like the landscaping, especially the trees and shrubs, and the little pool is very cute. I think the flagstones at the rear of the build are unnecessary; grass would blend in better with most surroundings and would bring you closer to the minimalist style of your inspiration picture. It might also have been better to photograph your build sitting on a corner lot, so that the driveway could connect with something.

I am writing this a while after judging your entry, but I’ll do my best to remember my thoughts at the time. Firstly, congratulations on your first exchange upload! I thought your build looked very inviting. Though the architecture was very simple, the stone was a nice colour, the windows were evenly placed, and the flowers you chose looked pretty. If I recall correctly, the laptop in the master bedroom was not accessible, but I think there were no other playability issues. Glancing back over your pictures, I don’t think the colours of the sofa or rug work very well, either with one another or with the rest of the build, but otherwise I think you chose nice colours and patterns for the interiors. The rooms could have a benefited from some curtains, especially in a cosy little cottage like this. As you mentioned in your entry form, you forgot to turn the grid off for your pictures, so I think it would have been wise to go back and retake them. They are also quite small, taken only at night time, and there are no exterior shots. I know you also provided a slideshow link, but I don’t seem to have permission to access it.

Oh yes!  I'm so on board for this. I love loft/studio style homes and apartments. *rubs hands together* I've already got all sorts of ideas in my head.

Wow, I'm really interested in joining, but the challenge "One Store Item Only" is a big challenge for me, as I love store items. It's gonna be hard for me to narrow down that choice, but I'll figure this out. Thanks aricarai for hosting...

Yet another contest I find doable...I might enter this one, since I just discovered that building lots is actually a great stress reliever.
