I have two graphics cards in my laptop. I attached image links so you can click on them. Sorry it's night time in my game atm so some are dark. Also, I do have Vsync & Triple Buffering on in nVidia Control Panel (image below). I have absolutely no lag, freezing, or crashing what-so-ever.
ETA:
So I went back in game and messed with some of the settings under Options as well as the NPC.
Looks like there are some things set in the NPC on the card.
This is still high except for Edge Smoothing. (Appears to be a setting on the card)
I changed tree & sim detail from very high to high, then bumped lot detail down to 6 from 8.
I was able to get up to 60 FPS but I still have Vsync & Triple Buffering on in NPC. I do have a screenshot of it at like 35 FPS here.
However, now my print screen function is messed up giving me black screens from in the game. I had to take the new screenshot in window mode, I will have to fix that. And the game actually played smoother on the original settings. So I'm going to have to mess with it some more to try and get it back.
Here are some images from in game as the 'C' button still works.
Mara chatting with a friend.
Christmas light still up in spring.
Spring Festival.
Final Update: 07/09/2013
Finally had time to come back and update after getting my graphics card recognized by the game. Anyway, I am where I want to be and the game is playing sweet. No lag, freezing, great FPS. I also threw in a few videos I'm testing the settings in the Options and Sims.ini file. Love the widescreen on video playback but it's not quite there yet.
Very happy with my card and the settings. So much to do and so little time.
Cheers!
Hi blu, I was just wondering...was your laptop custom built, I have intel hd graphics and have a 1.5ghz processor but can't play sims 3 without a) shuttingdown by it's self on OS and b) when I switch to date it say's that I don't have enough memory?....6gb ram and 1tb memory/hard drive

if im recalling correctly blu's laptop is made by MSI and she did select custom options, like windows 7 over 8
Thank you! I might try that next time, just have to save up again
For some reason it won't even let me play in windowed mode? just one setting of it being full screen with big black bits at the side when I have seen it. thank you for the link i've had a quick scan through, some bits i've done and did uninstall world adventures but going to give it a thorough read now the computer technician I spoke to said it would easily run it and just to uninstall and reinstall again. shame that it's only a 4 month old laptop too.
though note the hard drive is still at 5400 rpm. i would suggest looking at sites in Canada that specialize in gaming systems. you should be able to get better prices for better specs. see first few posts here - there also may be a site listed to check out.
Thank you! The guy in Bestbuy was trying to sell me that Dell yesterday! Cool I'll definitely have to have a good look on new egg! I've only lived in Canada under a year, moved from Ireland so I'm not up to speed on good sites for laptops! I found this site too, they have a store in my city! http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=710_577_371&item_id=072015 I thought this looked good too! I'm on my phone right now so I haven't looked at that site properly either!
I'm still browsing for a new laptop since my 4 year old hp pavillion has a hard time handeling Sims 3+ all ep until Island Paradise, some sp's and a lot mods from NRaas.
At this moment I'm considering 2 laptops.
1. Acer Aspire V5 with i5 4210U Haswell, 8gb ram and Nvidia gtx 850m
2. Asus N56JN-CN089H with i7 4710Hq Haswell, 6 gb ram and Nvidia gt 840m
Ideally would be a combination of the two laptops, but I'm from the Netherlands and my budget is max 800 euro so thats going to be impossible.

i found on amazon it has the slower hard drive speed of 5400rpm but if thats it only drawback then this should work fine. i would look for reviews, especially gaming to see if the systemis known to run hot or not.

Which one would be better?
better specs are always better so i7 or i5 etc. but please in the future either provide link or add all necessary info and it would be great if you posted when you were actually ready to buy vs shopping. for shopping i highly suggest reading this thread and goggling more info about how to buy laptops, good luck
i've read and posted in this thread before. The other time the links weren't working, so therefore i thought it might be handy writing the most important things instead of posting links that don't work.
It's basically impossible to get a 15.6" laptop here, with a i7 and a good graphics card for less than 900-1000 euro. So, thats my problem. I'm trying to decide wheather I should choose for a i5 with good graphics card or a i7 with a graphics card thats less.

Hopefully you can still help me out..
Thanks
yea i see the problem the 15.6 is almost good but why settle for the 2 core i7 - here's what i suggest contact msi directly and see if you can get a better option from the sales dept
at least in the US i was able to contact them and get options not listed at stores (though i did go with another). just look for sales email and tell what you are looking for, im sure they can provide options
also if there are other brands you are interested in i would also contact directly. im not a huge acer fan myself but if thats your preference also try their sales dept, good luck
hi THELITTLERAT the first is a better option (i couldnt find graphic info for the second so the assumption is that is integrated) but i also would strongly encourage you pay the 50 bucks more for the better resolution, also as any in laptop google its model number for reviews especially gaming ones, its important to know if it runs hot or not.
but i will say i prefer known gaming brands like msi or sager or c.yberpower. im always worried about brands like HP - a manufacturer can reduce performance options of its components, but that shouldnt be the case with known gaming systems.
Thanks for replying, but actually the second laptop comes with the choice of a i7 4510u processer and a gtx 850m gpu. I've just heard that the cpu isn't very strong?

ahh i didnt look at the custom options - for 140 more you get a weaker processor but proper dedicated card.
my hunch is that the weaker processor with the 850m may mean the 850m installed has reduced capabilities then stock 850m, i could be wrong so you could check out notebook check for this model and compare its to their review of 850m stock and see if you can determine if there is a difference
but in the end does having a much much better processor couple with ok card better than weaker processor with better card (though again this card may not be fully optimized) - its hard a call - i personally would keep shopping but if i had to choose i would lean towards getting the better processor
The first one is a bit cheaper and has a better gpu, but the second one has a slightly better processor.
generally i recommend the most current generation, in this case the 850m but i cant stress the importance of better processor. i know its common to advocate getting the best card but i do think sims 3 requires both and laptop i5s are not like desktop versions. so in short if you can afford a proper i7 gaming processor then you shouldnt lower power for a better card.
Well the cyberpower is above my budget and the laptop doesn't have to be a beast. I can always overclock the cpu if I find problems with it. Overall, just want a laptop that can play the sims 3 on medium to high settings because right now I have an old mac that won't play it at all.

ha thats not a beast but overclocking laptop cpu's shouldnt be possible because of limited bios options
i should also add you have already posted better processor options but i get picking is never easy, good luck
ya you are set for sims 3 you do need to set up the second card 870m to run the game, you should also be prepared to do the same for 4 and possibly the demo

Hey I think I am goin to get this laptop! I'm saving up and it will probably be Christmas by the time I can afford it lol! Something to look forward too! Hopefully will be good for TS3

if im recalling correctly blu's laptop is made by MSI and she did select custom options, like windows 7 over 8
and unfortunately i can see how your system is struggling with the game see the suggestions here to see if you can minimize the performance issue:

sorry i would take a pass, at that price you should be getting better specs.
let me also add this link showed me that there are 2 cores i7 - i never knew but i would also take a pass
so processor too weak get i7 4700mq or better, hard drive at 5400 rpm is slow, try for 7200 rpm, resolution too low try for 1920 x 1080
here's a better option http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/eurocom-eurocom-m3-13-3-gaming-laptop-black-silver-intel-core-i7-4700mq-1tb-hdd-8gb-ram-win-8-english-w230st-bb018/10279399.aspx?path=f9bc57ec0bb07f28befbebbf4d88c9d2en02

I prefer this one because of the price tag, but I'm worried if the graphics card is good enough? total: $729
#2 http://www.shopping.hp.com/en_US/home-office/-/products/Laptops/HP-ENVY/G0T95AV?HP-ENVY-15t
For this one I would pick the i7-4510u and gtx 850m total:$789

oh and i almost forgot before buying do contact HP and ask which 740m is installed there is two types, one not so hot for gaming and one much better suited for it
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-740M.89900.0.html
if its the not so hot for gaming and you need to pay extra for better resolution you may want to keep shopping around
ahh i didnt look at the custom options - for 140 more you get a weaker processor but proper dedicated card.
letters like u mean the processor option has been reduced so you are correct i7 - 4510u is not as strong as i7 4700mq, it even has less cores

There are few things the 870m can't run and I'm assuming the rest if system is built to run the 870m properly
This is the laptop http://us.msi.com/product/nb/GT70-Dominator-Dragon.html#hero-overview i'm hoping this will run the sims 3.
ya you are set for sims 3 you do need to set up the second card 870m to run the game, you should also be prepared to do the same for 4 and possibly the demo
see here for how to set up sims 3 game http://forums.thesims.com/en_US/discussion/634204/please-read-this-and-help-me
Thanks! I just have a question will the computer be able to play the sims 3 on high settings?
