No prob! I've been trying out stuff all day. I also figured something else out. Sometimes I can install and it takes seconds to install. Other times I can install and it takes FOREVER for that black box to go away after the installation. I think it's because I had my FeaturedItems folder disabled so that the launcher doesn't fill it full of pictures when I boot up the launcher. The installation was going fast and smooth until I disabled that folder and then suddenly....laaaag
I used to rename my featured items folder so nothing could go in it. Now that I have a better, faster system, I just leave it there and disable it in game. I too noticed a problem with not having it.

So I'm installing my store content into the new computer. You can just imagine . I sure don't have a head for this the way most of you do. I know this because I watched each of @ZeeGee's videos about installing store stuff more than twice and still felt like I'd never figure it out, lol. It was so nice to see it in action though, ZeeGee. It helped a lot.
That said, @ciane, words just can't describe how grateful I am that you took so much time to do all this work. Thank you!!! I know everyone feels that way. Wow. It's so very helpful to see the sizes of the files on your list before I load them.
So I just want to be sure I'm on the right track. Alright, so I get the part about making sure the EBC's are numbered 0, 1, 2, etc. and watching the size of each one so it doesn't go over that magic number, and then removing the pkg files from the downloads folder into safe storage (I'm even copying the EBC files for each download into its own folder on my external hard drive), so what I wanted to verify is: while we are watching the file sizes in the DDCache, the files in the DCBackup go on and on for all eternity and that bunch just keeps growing and growing the more we download? Won't it be like a mile long once this whole installation is complete?
I usually move the files in the dcbackup into a new folder labelled according to the file I installed right away. So, if I install the greenhouse, then I select all the files in the dcbackup (minus the ccmerged file) and cut and paste them into a new folder I've named greenhouse. Then, I install something else and do that again. This keeps all the sets backup files in nice, organized folders.
Those backup files are all just numbers and therefore almost impossible to tell which content they actually match. I feel they aren't needed; but sometimes when you upload a lot or a sim, your computer might check here before including the content in your upload. I've tested this and had content upload that had no files in the dcbackup (because I deleted or moved them from there after installing). I feel it's only required for third party cc to transfer. BUT, I'm not on the last patch and every system is different, so... you can keep all the backup files organized or just a big hodge podge or delete or move them at your discretion.
Thanks for the reply, @ciane. It was very helpful. I'm going to go for the more organized method you mentioned since I'd rather not have the hodge podge in the backup files. Luckily I haven't installed that much store content in the new computer yet so I am still hopefully able to figure out, like I did when copying and pasting the ebc files to my external hard drive, which gobbledygoop numbers go with which item by the time stamps on the stored ebc files.
I really miss my store items and old families and can't wait to get them back into my game. I just want to do it right because I already experienced store items uninstalling themselves on my old computer and hope to avoid that. There's a busy holiday season coming up. My sims will have turkeys to roast and gifts to wrap and all that decorating and I want them to be ready.
I did those videos before I learned to edit video! I've just done a complete reset on my laptop and installed Sims 3 through Steam. So I'm going to have to redownload and install my store content. Wondering if I should video it and do a properly edited video of how to install the store that would make a lot more sense?!
Well that would be a lot of work and an enormous amount of time to video it, but I know it would be very useful to many. You sure have your work cut out for you re downloading and installing all your store content. But this is what we do for this game lol. And let's not forget to thank photo*b*ucket for removing all of ciane's original photos showing the entire process. Grrrr
Try copying in the pertinent folder info for dccache, installed worlds, and library to see if your game will recognize them first, ZG. You might get lucky. I am pretty sure the download files won't work, but maybe the cache files will. It seems I was already to reinstall on my new system where I had to replace a couple discs (stuck in the CD player and borrowed, by not returned, by a friend). But, I got lucky, I think and I got some stuff to copy over. The saves wouldn't play, but the .nhd file from the saves would. So, I only had to open up and save in a world. Then, I'd quit and copy in the old .nhd file.
Steam version might not recognize the other formats, but it might.
Hi @ciane and @ZeeGee I recently received a new laptop as a Christmas present ( I found out about it so they let me have it early!) anyway I have to install all the store content and I would like to watch Zeegee's videos to get ready again and the links to it are not working on the original thread if there is a link to it on here I can't seem to find it so could one of you please give me a link to the videos thank you!

You can google youtube ZeeGee install store content and see if that helps.
@ciane -It's kinda sad that we have to use Archive.org to really have support for TS3. I'm glad Archive did keep copies.
I wonder if Flkr and Imgur are most trustworthy for file storage if you're using the free options.
Thanks so much for all you do for us!

Okay, tried this. My game save files copied over just fine from disc to Steam. But the store content backups won't work. So either I do without my store content on the laptop, which is doable. I don't play on it that much. Or I do a complete reinstall. If I do a complete reinstall I'll film it. Because the first one is so raw! And didn't show all the options available. I didn't know how to edit at the time.
@Teanias Nice to see you back! Hope the old video helps!
@ciane@funkyferret and @ZeeGee Thank you all for your help! If nothing else the video will help me get psyched up to get started ! Getting started always seems to be the hardest part for me!
@ZeeGee those achievement files ( the ones you mentioned on the last page appearing in dbc file with S3PE ) won't appear if you make sure you are not hooked up to the Internet when you play your game to check the stuff you have installed I had the same problem last time I reinstalled my store stuff on my old laptop.
I just copied all of Ciane's post with the list and directions of how to install the store stuff to my iPad just incase it goes poof again! ( I always have trouble whenever I try to do anything with peoples spreadsheets so this was the easier option for me.) I would advise everyone else to do the same better to have notes you might not need cluttering up your iPads or computers than need the list and not be able to get it!
Hi @ciane
I hope you don't mind me doing this but I am on my iPad and I thought later when I get on my computer to install the venues it would be easier if I just had to click on the url. So I am posting the list here to do just that thanks!
I have been slowed down on my store install for various reasons that I won't go into but am still at it. Right now I am on my iPad and doing the same thing I did above it makes it a lot easier when I get on my computer again I hope you don't mind.
This is the list of sets to install to finish up the compilations:
Oh my goodness! I'm so glad you posted the archived link. I had saved a link to the original thread a few years ago, and I went to use it today and I was heartbroken it was gone!! After all the time and care I put into properly installing my store content a few years ago, I was a total dummy a few weeks ago and just started downloading stuff from the exchange willy nilly. And now of course my store content is spontaneously disappearing. But hopefully I can find where I saved my clean backups from a couple of years ago. Thanks again for all of the helpful information and time you put into this!
ok. I've found all of my backup files from my last go round. Unfortunately the wayback machine didn't seem to archive every single page of comments, so I'm probably going to ask questions that I myself have even asked before...
Can I just delete the files in my current dcCache folder and replace it with my clean back up from I initially installed all my store content? Or do I need to reinstall everything since a few things have uninstalled...? I can't find the MultiTab or the Prius, so who knows what else may have disappeared...
Here is what I have a backup of :
dcBackup - I have a copy of the final ccmerged file, and then folders containing the package files that I organized as: pattern items, worlds, venues, individual items, sets, reg rewards and free sets...
dcCache- I have a master copy of the final dcCache file. And I also I have a copy of each individually numbered dcCache in its own folder, and the folder tells me what I installed on that particularly dcCache.
Downloads- which has all the .Sims3pack files
a folder that has the package file for the Sandy Shoals library item, though honestly I can't remember why
and the same for a Villa Pariso library item.
Anyone have any thoughts on what I should do? It's been so long since I messed around with this stuff, I am feeling unsure of myself.
Hey @LadybugLeslie I have yet to organize my store, but to comment on the Sandy Shoals and Villa Pariso, those are "Featured Looks" and have items from other sets in them. If you download those two as sets, you actually get the venue or build that are shown on the store page. I think those are the only two featured sets that have a venue with them, but only if downloaded as a set. If I'm wrong someone will correct me.

Oh right! I guess the lots are what I meant by "library file". Thanks @Odonata68
@LadybugLeslie You have everything you need! This is what I would do...
1. Take your Electronic Arts folder and drop it on your desktop.
2. Start the launcher, which will create a new Electronic Arts folder.
3. Do you have version 1.69 or 1.67? If you have 1.67 transfer the ContentPatch folder from your old EA folder into your new one.
4. Put a copy of your backed up ccmerged file into the new dcbackup folder.
5. Put a copy of your backed up ebc files into the new dccache folder.
6. Put the Sandy Shoals and Villa Paraiso package files into the Library folder.
Now transfer anything into this new folder that you want to keep ....
Collections if you have any custom collections
ContentPatch if you're on 1.67
Exports if you have anything you've exported that you want to keep
Installed worlds
Library files
Mods (if you have them)
Saved Sims
Saves
Screenshots
Transfer the userpresets.package if you have saved custom patterns or colors in your game you'd like to keep.
That's it! You don't need to transfer anything in the download folder or all those dcbackup files cause you don't need those. Anything else in the folders will regenerate when you boot up the game.
Any cc you've installed will be in dbc files in the dccache folder
