There are some references to other games. Even to one obscure one!
I'll put the references in spoilers.
Secret:
Being Grim
Soul reaping is not for the faint of heart. When you’ve been around as long as I have, you’ve witnessed a series of fateful events. But even as death, I have lived a full life. I have loved. I have lost. There are times where I have pitied and obliged. And times where I have been downright medieval.
I even owned a cowboy hat once, although I’m not sure where I put it. Unfortunate for you, death’s secret is not one I can share. Mere mortals learning of such things before their time would be a grave mistake. One that would haunt you ’till the end of days! But I will leave you with this – rest up before you rest in peace, the afterlife can be quite lively.
I have loved.
This is the reference to The Sims 2's storyline where Olive Specter has a memory of WooHooing with Grim Reaper and having Nervous Subject from this relationship.
I have lost.
Reference to the fact that when pleading with Grim Reaper in The Sims 1 and 2, your sim plays a game with him (rock-paper-scissors in 1, pick a hand in 2). If your sim wins, the dead sim will be brought back to life. Not only that, but in The Sims 3, sims can play chess with Grim Reaper for dying sim's soul, winning which will have that sim resurrected.
And it goes on! In The Sims 2 for Console, Grim Reaper appears on the lot when you have a ghost on the lot. The ghost can either buy their life back or challenge the Grim Reaper to fiddle contest. If the ghost wins, they'll be resurrected.
There are times where I have pitied and obliged.
Not only is it a reference to how pleading works in The Sims 4, but also to the fact that in The Sims 1, Grim Reaper may even reject the plea, thus rock-paper-scissors doesn't happen (which would otherwise had lead to sim either being resurrected normally or brought back as a zombie).
I even owned a cowboy hat once, although I’m not sure where I put it.
The Sims 2 for DS anyone? Yes, this is a reference to how he looks like in The Sims 2 for Nintendo DS. While sims can't die there, they can pass out however. And when that happens, the Grim Reaper figure (or Grim Cowboy as it is called there) will appear and put the sim in a sack before leaving. After that, your sim wakes up in the Manager Suite. Here's a picture of Grim Cowboy. And oh, that's not it. If your sim learns Giuseppi Mezzoalto's secret, you'll even unlock Grim Cowboy's concept art. Here's the concept art.
I want to show how it looks like in-game, but give me some time to find a video on it.
Unfortunate for you, death’s secret is not one I can share. Mere mortals learning of such things before their time would be a grave mistake.
Let's overanalyze this! May be a reference to the fact that in The Sims 4, when asking Grim's career or if he's single, he will give a special response instead, thus keeping it a secret.
One that would haunt you ’till the end of days! But I will leave you with this – rest up before you rest in peace, the afterlife can be quite lively.
Sims become ghosts when they die.
Like wow, what a nice unexpected callback to previous iterations of the Grim Reaper.
@DaWaterRat I know what you mean. I really wanted to feel a sense of community but I don't exactly want my neighbors in my yard when I am not home. I tried to make my tiny porches in the the San Francisco style homes shared but they are too small to host the hang out. The tend to hang out on the sidewalk and talk there upon loading into the lot. Next series of row houses I will make big porches with a serious conversation pit design.
There is a good barbecue event mod by by KiaraSims which is perfect for this style of community. It even lets you have unlimited amount of guest which I LOVE. and the little backyards are perfect for toddler playdates. I have a lot of my young families with toddlers and infants moving into the townhouses from apartments or out of their multi-generational dwellings. It's quite exciting having this lot type for this new families.
I heard about save file corruption shortly after the pack launched. Decided that I would hold off on buying the pack and patching.
I got a few new parts for my desktop and my husband ended up with one of my smaller drives. That drive happened to be the only one with Sims... TS4. So I reinstalled yesterday on my new drive but that means I'm now patched. I'm afraid to even play at this point. Even with backups if something goes wrong.
"If you avoid your main save files, keep backups, and play a new save file then you should be fine until they fix it!"
No thank you. I'll just wait and see if this months patch fixes anything.
@EgonVM Yeah from everyone's feedback on the bug report it sounds like it's a question of how many rental units you have in your save overall. It's different on different people's computers, but some people are getting it at very few total units.
The cheat would send a person over their computer's limit quicker, that's all.

This is severe. If it happens once a person's computer has reached a certain limit, just imagine how many hours that person spent on setting up their save and then it's corrupted, maybe even a save that person had played since launch! My thoughts go to the poor players experiencing such issues. I feel so sorry for them, as I imagine this might be an issue that cannot be fixed retroactively.
Now now EA, don't be stinking up our lovely lavender bath with your shopping fart. - My TS4 mods - Gallery ID: 83bienchen
Oofff, this is terrifying. I’ve bought the new pack, but haven’t downloaded it yet. I was planning on installing everything this week, but now I’m too scared to begin playing until the issue is fixed. I’ve been playing the same save since 2018, I’m definitely not risking it! Hopefully the devs will be on it soon!
I REALLY hope, they will fix this awful bug as soon as possible, along with the 'lot stuck on residential rental lot' bug.
Somehow I'm saddened by the fact that the official Sims Team did not give an official statement/warning to be cautious with placing residential rental lots as soon as the corruption bug was discovered. I mean, this seriously breaks peoples saves, and some players don't check the forums or bug threads that often, so they are not aware of the problem.
Luckily (or sadly) I'm kinda glued to the Bug Report Forums :P so I read about the bugs and avoided placing residential rental lots for now.
I still enjoy the new Pack, because since I got it I am building a cool Apartmentbuilding for San Myshuno, and I'm loving it so far!! But just to be sure that nothing goes wrong I am building in a different save and not with the new lot type, just as a normal residential house. As soon as the bugs are fixed I will change the lot type to residential rental and will finally play with the gameplay features.
In my opinion the B/B in this pack is awesome! Hopefully, once the main bugs are resolved, i can say the same about the gameplay too.
I don't think it has anything to do with the more than 6 units cheat. It happened to me and I did not use that cheat. It happens to some with more than 20 residential units. I had tried again from an old save it it triggered again at 19 residential rental units.
I recently got one as well but mine was directed towards non-buyers. They asked what it would take to buy the pack. I will be waiting for a sale and a solution to the bug that breaks peoples saves. I am looking forward to the world, kitchen appliances and hopscotch.
Fun fact: Looking at the pictures, the reason for green exclamation mark bubbles may be that a household is living on the lot.
It's a thread that goes back a few years, with cases coming in sporadically over those years. But the second half of the thread is all new cases since December 5, although MOST that that is discussion among several people trying to figure out what's happening, so it's not nearly as many new cases as the thread size suggests. Some people have it starting in commercial venue lots, so it's not all household-related. I don't see enough new reports to suggest that unit count alone causes this, as there are surely more people than this hitting over 20 RR units overall (that's the smallest number I see in the reports)... enough the system works fine for that TMex was able to test his "up to 250 units" mod and release it. Not everyone in the thread is cheating over 6 units per lot, either. Some people find it's a specific lot that starts the problem, but it's not a consistent specific lot for everyone. Some people feel they're noticing a pattern that it starts with a Gallery download. A couple of people report that they're in saves with over 2000 Sims. Some have no mods (or removed them all); some had Zerbu's Copy World, which has been known to cause issues before. (Seriously, people, don't use mods that openly tell you they're experimental on your favourite save!)
My advice would just be to do a "Save As" now and then so you have more states to go back to if you do run into this. And to do that before adding more RR units.

And I've been such a fan of that cheat...
Seriously, EA, people don't want to destroy their beloved saves with broken DLC.
Also, TwistedMexi finally released the more than 100 units mod! Though I'm still a little afraid to download it...

Seriously, this is the news that The Sims news sites should put up. This is something that should be addressed and warned about.
I scoured through Answers HQ and stumbled upon this:
[OPEN] Orange Exclamation signs over lots / Houses disappear
