Ohh controversial, I know but think about it at the start of this game they said this game will last 5 years ok fine we said we will enjoy that and I think it's safe to say we have we still do enjoy it now back in 2017 the Gurus said we have 3 more years of the Sims 4 that was 2 years ago this quote people picked up and have ran with whenever someone mentions the Sims 5 you get someone scream NOOO 3 MORE YEARS THEY SAID 3 MORE YEARS. but look at the facts SP's & GP's seem to have disappeared (although I do like getting 2EP's a year). This year on the EA jobs page they advertised for a new team to work on the next game in The Sims this all points towards a new game and I believe a new game engine.

I see 2 perhaps even 1 more year of the sims remember the hype train for TS4 started about a year before it was released even the packs were released you may get your 3 years but don't expect the new dev team to keep quiet next year we will see (possibly September) the Sims 5 Hype begin.

oh my mistake grant did say that but I honestly believe that sometime in 2020 we will get the game because then we reach a milestone of 20 years of the sims and that's amazing perhaps they could bring back the original worlds from the Sims 2 and stuff.

Be aware, too, that Grant also clarified this past Fall that we have at least three more years of content. So three years minimum. I suspect that development has to plan way ahead in order for EA to properly schedule the time and budget for the content to be created. But as long as Sims 4 is in demand, and as long as it can handle add-ons, they will keep creating DLC.

We do not know for sure that the new game they are hiring for is Sims 5. If it is, this game will take years to develop, just like the previous base games did. It is still possible that the game that's in development is a stand-alone or offshoot game. Nothing has been verified.

I think it's possible we'll have content through 2021, but almost definitely at least through 2020. If Sims 4 stops at 2020 we could see Sims 5 in 2021, but I'm thinking more likely we'll see it in 2022 with Sims 4 stopping at some point in 2021.
It's kind of sad that I have to point out that anything I say is only just my opinion and may be a different one from someone else.

TS4 is only now starting to get good. I'm more than ok with more 3 years of developments for it if not more. As for TS5, we'll see.

I wouldn't be surprised to see sims 5 announced on the twentieth anniversary, while it's in production. If anything I hope the team sees what it can improve upon with a new engine for sims 5, and continues with the more stylized artwork, as that keeps things both unique and fresh.

Stuff Packs? Yes Perhaps. I agree. They seem to start to release less Stuff Packs per year. But then, it does not mean that we are not going to see them next year. Game Packs? Np, they don't seem to disappear but instead we are following a normal pattern for game packs. Every year starting 2015 there is a pattern of game packs released. 2015 has 2, 2016 has 1, 2017 has 2, and 2018 has 1 game pack. It is possible that we will have another game pack by January/First quarter of the year as the voice recording seems finished and before the holidays. They are working also on multiple packs at the same time. So their GP team is probably wrapping up GP7 before the holidays, and perhaps first weeks of Q1.

I think my main red flag is that it feels like development is have slowing down and whenever I think about new EP's I always think that idea would work better with an open world.

I won't get too excited about 5 personally. 4 was almost a totally different game...that I would never have bought. Thankfully they scrapped their plans and retooled it into a more Sims-like game. I expect them to make the same mistake with 5 and don't necessarily expect them to reverse course soon enough. Sadly, the suits in power can't help but think in terms of "getting new people to play" while forgetting that the existing customers won't always be a big fan of the choices made in that effort.

So for me.. I sure hope we get 3 more years!

I'm hopping off the train after Sims4. Been riding it since the original. At some point it's just rehash of past item concepts and life components. The bugs will ALWAYS be around, the profit-driven mentality of EA will continue to unduly influence things and I do not care to wait years and years for a game to be "completed." I do hope for content (and that being detailed and good) to continue to come at least through the better part of 2021 for 4 as it has been fairly pleasing overall.

I just want the devs to get enough time to get it right at release -- meaning no missing life stages, and if they still go with the emotional system, fine tune it that it actually has meaning (less "happy" and more "fine" would suit me, and less of an emotional rollercoaster where a Sad Sim immediately becomes Happy when they enter a nicely decorated room). Maybe less of the extreme emotions and get rid of the emotional deaths.

    Amen to that!

I honestly am not at all eagre to see 5. They need to take their time and do it not just right, but make it amazing.

Perhaps because I am now to where I have 2, 3 an 4 all installed at the same time and don't have to 'pick one' to play (thanks Santa for the additional hard drive!), I'm perfectly happy just playing these 3 sims games...forever. If they don't make the base game for 5 so amazing that I won't be able to resist, I'll be passing on it.

It surprised me to find that people are still making NEW cc for Sims 2 even. That game has some legs.

The Sims 5 ??? Why do you hurt your mind so badly ?

Maybe you should expect they will release SimCity 6, it would get the same effect.

I think that they have at 3-4 more expansion packs in them for this game. We haven't got Supernaturals yet (other than Vampires) and I think they need to get one with Cars in it. Also University hasn't shown up yet. I am sure there are other stuff packs they could put out. I don't think they are ready yet to go to Sims 5 anyway.

I really hope that 4 will be around for 3 more years. I don't like the first couple years of a new series all that much, it mostly feel empty missing old sims and playing a sparse world where most content is saved for future packs. I doubt I'll be with you on a 5.

Three more years is too long. It is like trying to pick a coin out of a river that you dropped but end up dropping even more coins in the long run

Star Wars The Old Republic (2011) : 7 years old, 4 expansions
World of Warcraft (2004) : 14 years old, 7 expansions

The Sims 4 could be maintained 6 or 7 years without problem (10 or 12 EPs).

Do you know how long it takes to make a game from scratch? If the new game people got hired to work on, no matter how many people work on that game, even 2022 would mean it was rushed as TS4 was. (And the Devs admitted that it was rushed. They had to add those simple object babies and leave the toddlers out to have at least something and still finish on time.)
Just like an Expansion Pack isn't done in two weeks. (And there are still people who talk to the Devs as if they didn't know that)
There is still a lot they could do to the Game.
After Seasons came out, the entire Sims team made sure to let us know it is still content being made and planned for years to come.
Graham I think was it that said that it would be at least 3 years. As we are now 4 years in, we just about got a bit more than half of what TS4 will end up having in the end, if that is true.

Folks in this thread that are saying 3 more years is guaranteed because of what has been said need to stop and take a reality check. Companies make plans and then later scrap them and change course ALL the time, so there are definitely no guarantees. This is especially true where EA is concerned, they are (in)famous for sudden changes in direction and the scrapping of in progress development.

I do hope for 3 more years, I really would like to see 3 more years (if not more) of stuff added to TS4....but lets not kid ourselves that it is a sure thing, regardless of what has been said or planned.

You need to give TS4 some time - I honestly think it's a great game (I was a hater of the sims 4 on the day when it released - I should have given it a chance)

    *In the future*

Players of the TS4: "Why isn't The Sims 5 like the Sims 4, they removed so much content!"

    ^ I predict this future.

Sims 4 was at an additional disadvantage because so much key content was missing from the base game -- toddlers, pools, ghosts, etc. I really didn't consider Sims 4 BG to be complete until January 2017 when we got Attack of the Killer Cuteness aka the Toddler patch. I know a lot of players want playable babies, but I'm not sure how they add them in at this point without ruining existing saves that have the object babies already. (That could be one argument for a Sims 5; improved life stages especially babies and teens.) I liked some of the features that were added in Sims 4 BG, such as bars/lounges/nightclubs -- and DLC like GT for nightclubs and GF for lounges (though I wish there was a way to keep the NPC entertainers from interfering with my entertainers, and the Talent Showcases seriously need some tweaking) have made those BG venues even better. I remember that people preferred the professional bars from Late Night to the useless "juice bars" in Sims 3, and I beiieve that the Sims 4 bars were in response to those requests.

I feel like Sims 4 is just now hitting its prime -- we've got a decent mix of content for the single YA Sims, and the past two years have seen a renewed emphasis on family content. The next two to three years should be interesting to watch; there definitely is enough content out there (University, Farming, "Off the Grid", etc.) to make plenty of additional content, and that's not even counting additional occults for players that favor that sort of play. And who knows what ideas the devs might come up with that might never occur to the average community member?

No offense to you @Stormkeep but I do believe the three more years is basically set in stone. They've been given the go ahead on it content has been planned for years out even if we don't know what that entails. I guess something huge could happen to stop it but it's very unlikely. I actually believe it's probable that after the 3 year plan that we were told of around the middle of this year they will regroup and possibly add in more. I'm sure sales, game stability ect.. will factor into what they will do beyond that.

Not all of those have to be EPs either, or standalone packs; we could see bands added to a University pack, for example, since some of the features of past University packs (such as cafes and bowling) are already part of other DLC. Casinos could be an SP, utilizing existing venues such as bars, nightclubs and lounges (like they did with Bowling Night).
