Thanks for all the information everyone! I'm quite excited by these challenges haha.
@lisalittlesimmer thanks for the link, it is true I'm a total novice at modern style but it can always try haha. As you might guess my favourite style is old European inspired styles. By the way did I give you the right link? If you were referring to the large castle instead I can finish up the outside and put it on the gallery but I imagine I won't have time to furnish it until after the weekend.
@crysk thanks for the info! Could I ask what is the difference between the normal qc challenges and the qc monthly? Thanks!
@Nore the lot size and the given budget. The monthly is on the larger lots with unlimited budget and the normal one on the smaller lots with a budget usually around 90k - 140k
Hello @Nore
The QC monthly challenge has builds that use the larger lot sizes in the game , such as 50x 50; 60x60 and 64x 64 The Builds are also more larger.
The other QC build challenge uses the smaller to middle sized lots for the challenge builds.
The QC rooms challenge is specifically a room challenge, rather than a lot.
Here is my current WIP! I found the exterior of this home on google and I knew that I needed to recreate something very similar in game! This house is definitely my favorite thing that I've ever built!
And I don't normally do landscaping like this, but I think it works for this home.
Your WIP is looking so very nice! @equuest Very nice exterior design and layout of the home! The stone and brick wall texture looks very nice together . The roofing and dormers look great! The flowers and plants look very pretty on the edges of the home, and each sides of the fencing. It is a nice touch that there is a stepping stone pathway to the seat in the front garden. The water fountain feature is special for sims to see when entering the home.
It is a very nice home!
Not sure if this is allowed, if it isn't please let me know and I can delete the message haha.
It is my first time entering one of the challenges and I am not certain if we are allowed to link what we are working on here. But anyway, I started work on a modern mansion and I have never really done anything modern before, usually I stay within the realm of much older haha. Anyway I looked up a ton of examples and the just mashed together what I liked. Not sure if it worked out in the end haha. Also if anyone has any good links to modern landscaping, I have no idea what to do with the empty space in the front (as you can tell from the weird sculpture I attempted haha)
Here's some of the houses I saw and tried to mimic (clearly I strayed a ton lol):
In any case, here's some pictures of what I built. As always any advice is appreciated:
Tried to make a waterfall next to the car garage, not sure if it works haha:
The exterior design of the home and layout of the build looks so very nice! @Nore You have captured the modern theme so very well! The roofing looks very great! Very nice L shaped design of the pool. The water fountain feature is very nice in the pool. It is a special touch that you have created a rock waterfall near the garage. Very nice roof covered front entrance to the home. The way that you have done the green ledges on the edges of the building and around the pillar looks very nice!
It is a very nice modern home!
@Nore Your build looks gorgeous so far! I really like the unique roof structure and the different textures you have used on the exterior
As for landscaping, I am no expert, but I guess it depends on the look and feel you want. Something I have started to do is to actually look around the lot. When building I normally choose a lot that has the look and feel I want for the house. You know, for a Spanish colonial home I would place it on a lot in Oasis Springs. Outside the lot you can normally see trees and bushes, so I use this for inspiration. The added bonus then is that the house looks more like it's supposed to be there.
For example: In front of your lot you can see some landscaping. Those cypress trees and those ground palm trees for example. The palm tree bushes would probably work well with your home, as you already have a few palm trees there already. Like you see outside the lot there you can place a few of those palm tree bushes and then fill in with a few flower bushes around or in between.
If you want a more manicured and strictly modern look you also have those funky trees with the round balls (I got no idea what they are called, my game is in another language. lol) That and you can use hedges, maybe even put the hedges inside a fence or half walls for a modern vibe.
I don't know what will work best, but at least that's a few suggestions. Maybe it gives you a few ideas
@rosemow thank you so much as always! @laebeth That is an excellent idea! I never considered making landscaping that matches the surrounding area because in Sims 3 it seems silly with all the variety of worlds and ability to place lots anywhere. But here it makes so much more sense with the limited amount of lots available (which actually annoyed me at first haha). I am planning on maybe making it more concrete and surrounded by a fence with less greenery, seems more modern that way. Thanks!
Im kind of working ahead for the release of cats and dogs. So the windows will be diverent but this way i now where to put windows :P
And the wallpainting can change to if the new expension pack has some nice ones .. #Cantwait
The exterior design of your WIP looks very great! @Soraya4sims The roofing and shape of the build looks very nice! It is great that you have been doing the build in preparation for Cats and Dogs ep.
Your WIP looks so very nice! @StSciurus Very nice design of the home! The tower and roofing looks so very great! The windows look very nice how they are placed in the build. The flowers are very pretty on the edges of the homes.
It is a very pretty home!
@Soraya4sims did you know Target has the pack half off? Unfortunately for me I don’t live in America.
i dont live in America either. i live in the Netherlands.
The sad thing is that need to start over. The game crasted when i was saving it. Lucky i have this picture
