I'm a long time Sims player (since Bob met Betty) but have only started sharing my builds in this iteration [TS4]. I'm not great at landscaping or interestingly shaped exteriors, so tend to spend most of the time making rooms, rather than entire lots. My builds are usually themed in some way... I don't really do generic. I hope you enjoy my creations.

An alternative clothing shop set in a mausoleum and surrounding graveyard. Plenty of creeping ivy and some decorative graves for decoration, as well as a couple of skellies standing guard. Grey stone with dark pllars, and a shady candle-lit interior. This would be a perfect business for any gothic, ghost, zombie or vampire sim.

Songbird Country Club
After being annoyed that I couldn't get to the golf course in Newcrest, I did the next best thing and built a country club... I mean, someone has to rake the sand traps, right?

Ever wanted to live in a castle right from the start? Now you can. This lot a little overbudget for a single sim, but a family of 4 gets $26,000 to start off with and they end up with a small amount of change (on a $1,500 15x20 lot). I tried to stick to a Medieval sort of theme except where cost was prohibitive (style of beds) or impractical (appliances).

Cypress Crescent Condos
Are you a single Sim who wants to socialise and make friends? Are you a busy working couple who want to travel the minimum distance to party in your spare time? Are you a sprightly elder who wants to get out of the family home and forced baby-sitting for your grandkids? Then Cypress Crescent Condos could be the home for you!
Brightly decorated (well most of them) apartments with a shared outdoors area for socialising.
Built with social (maybe) sims and parties in mind... There are 6 units in this complex, with 3 rooms (or more) each. That's a lot of pics, so here's a slideshow.
A few notes about playtesting:
Your slide show is so very great! I enjoyed watching it! You have produced it so well! It looks very nice how each unit has a different name, different colour scheme and it was great reading what type of person each unit would suit. The furnishing of each of the units reflected the title that you gave to the units and who wrote that it would be ideal for. It is nice that there is a communal outdoors living patio too, for sims to enjoy cooking meals on the BBQ and dining together at the table. Sims will enjoy sitting on the stools at the bar, having a drink and a chat together. It is great that you have a hot tub there for sims to enjoy relaxing in. They will enjoy swimming in the pool. The pool gnome looks cute there! Each of the units have been furnished to suit the type of people well! The units look very nice! It is great that you have a basement photo studio for one of the units.
The design of the build is very great!

All the sims in the complex would get to know each other (even the loner sim, eventually) and be able to use each others' skill/hobby items. The painter and photographer would help personalise everyone's homes with portraits and landscapes. The chef and mixologist could make tasty food and drink that everyone can enjoy. The active sim could tutor people in fitness and let them use the gym, and the gamer/geek could let them use the hologaming item. The musician and comedian could keep the complex entertained and perform at parties.
I thought that the player could make a bunch of sims needed for parties, move them in and get their skills up (either one household at a time, or simultaneously). Then they could call on them when they throw a shindig in another household. The levelled up sims could then be evicted and a new bunch moved in, or they could expand the condos up/down and make the communal area family friendly as they age and have kids.
Or they could go the daytime drama route and have A, sleeping with B, who's dating, C who hates A... Etc. Some good story potential there.
Mini Devon Cottage
This cottage houses 3 Sims (double and single bedroom) and is just within the starting budget for a 3-Sim household if placed on a lot costing $1500. I tried to make it look like the cute cottages of my county. I grew up in Devon, but not in a lovely little cottage like this, unfortunately. My house was more like the rowhouses I made.
And I used a halfwall to make this nifty under-stairs loo.
The home is very nice!
