I've had 5 adults killed in accidents and I would have never killed them off if it weren't for neighborhood stories. I wonder if teens and children can die randomly.

so awesome. I know that sounds messed up but it is nice to see something other than old age deaths.

Neighborhood stories is sounding really great. Since I don't want to possibly mess up what I have going on in my current saves I'm probably going to start a new game save (no! not another one!) to test it out. I just have to decide who my main sims will be and what I want them to do. I'm wondering if this will make the townies/premades seem more interesting. I've been trying to use them more in the last few months, with mixed success.

This looks like a very cool feature, I'm looking forward to trying it out.

The ONE thing that struck me as odd was that NPC sims can adopt infants and toddlers but not a child. Why not? They should be able to adopt a child too. I'd say teens too but I can see where that could maybe seem a little skeevy.

Hmm, there’s something strange, because it originally said between infants and toddlers, but now the official blog post on the website says can adopt between infants and children. It’s not in SimGuru Nate’s post, but the blog on the website says children. Maybe the original wording of infants and toddlers was wrong, and it was meant to include children too.

I also hope NPC sims can adopt children, @Catzilla . I’m looking forward to using Neighborhood Stories once my mods are updated!

^ I noticed the households where I indicated they could adopt children. They started adopting children right away. I never had my sims adopt children in my game until neighborhood stories. My married couple was able to adopt a kid. I disabled the NPC's from having babies and adopting.

Me when I saw this part of SimGuruNick's explanation of the new features:
Global enable/disable setting. If life changes happening all over the world are just not your thing, that’s okay! Neighborhood Stories can be entirely disabled under Game Options using the “Reset Custom Configurations” Button.*
Yaaaaay, this is awesome. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes!:grin::love:

Me when I noticed the "fine print":
*Neighbor Sim friends will still occasionally call asking for advice about life changes unless your Sim’s phone is on silent.
Aw, man. I feel like I've been trolled. :disappointed:

This. I am glad that the devs have included toggles for the advanced Neighborhood Stories features, but I wish they had included a toggle for the Neighborhood Stories phone calls as well. Silencing the phone is not an optimal solution, because I do not want to block all phone calls, just primarily the ones related to Neighborhood Stories. I hope that the devs will consider adding phone call toggles in the future, so that we can control which specific types of phone calls our sims receive.

Exactly. I am disappointed as well that the toggle to turn the whole system off still leaves us with getting these phone calls. I want the "off" toggle to turn everything related to Neighborhood Stories off. Completely. Off. No autonomous changes and no phone calls. Why would they do it like this, where we are still getting phone calls?

But, I suppose this is the best we're going to get. So I'll probably update now, turn the system off, and hopefully there will be a mod to shut off the phone calls.

@GlacierSnow There is one by @83bienchen, but I didn't yet check if it is working with the current update!

@EnkiSchmidt Thanks for the tip! Bienchen usually gets things updated pretty quick. I'll keep an eye out for it. I use several of her other mods, so that's probably what I'll go with.

It's just frustrating that the devs seem unwilling to let us completely 100% disable this feature. Especially since it was added to the base game (basically, forced on players whether they wanted it or not). If it were part of a pack (which I could choose not to buy) I wouldn't grumble about it.

They did go to a lot of trouble to make Neighborhood Stories highly customizable in the Part 2 update for this feature, which I really appreciate. I love this level of detailed customization for game play features, and I wish they would do this with all the systems in the game. I might use some options for Neighborhood Stories in a few cases, with this level of customization. But I know that for most of my saves I'm just going to want it completely disabled for absolutely every sim, and that includes having no "life choice" phone calls. It makes no sense to me that with all that effort put into detailed customization, their global "turn it off" option does not completely 100% disable it.

I'm wondering if it is because they were getting a bug that was preventing the phone calls from being totally disabled...?

I think it's probably an error and that NPCs will be able to adopt infants, toddlers and children. It would be very strange otherwise.

I just noticed today i got two households i dont play that have gotten toddlers... lol in one day! First she has no boyfriend even, and the other is a household that already has 2 toddler and 2 schoolkids there no place for another kid on that lot lol. So it seems pretty random... i mean i like the concept but i already created my own way of making up hood tales but whatev ... i am glad i can opt out, turn the system OFF in the Game Options Panel ! (i found the Game options toggle later, i think it turned off the phone messages but i dunno for sure i seldom answer it lol)

I think this is a good feature all in all tbh, i mean i probably would have used it when i first started playing, so i may eventually work it into a few neighbourhoods ....

I had a good laugh with the neighborhood stories while playing the no skills scenario. Eliza asked my sim if she and Bob should get a baby. I said yes. Two days later I was invited from the proud parents, they said the adoption went faster then expected.
They have shown me her new cat. :D

Did another run, lots of events happened with story progression.
    - Many births/ adoptions.
    - many move in's.
    - many job changes.

As that was going on; I ended up playing a mean spirited elder sim and he had a affair with Lily Feng and got into a fight with her now ex bf and beat the carp out of him/ moved in and kicked him out, it was amusing. :D

So far all good on the PS4 part, I own both PC and PS4 versions; mainly because in case I visit my moms; I can bring the PS4 over there and play sims 4 there. :D

Edit: few days later he dies of old age, he trolled, won and died. :)

I am testing the neighborhood stories in one save so far.
I turned off the random deaths, the moving in, and moving out options. The turned off the moving in and moving out, mostly because I wanted to keep the empty housed empty for my Sims when they needed it. I turned off random deaths, because Sims are prone to setting fires while they cook, and I didn't want the population to decrease.
I kept a few things on, like the ability to have children, so that I have more options for my Sims in the future.

I wonder if the moving in/out feature makes the Sims sell all of their old lot furnishings, or do they just bring it along? I always hate it when they don't sell their old lot furnishings, forcing me to get to the Gallery library to fill the lot again.

@Lemontail, when that happens you don't need to redo the whole lot. While it is still vacant go into BB on the lot from the Manage Worlds screen and all the furniture will still be there. You need only buy and place one piece of furniture and then sims will be able to move into it as "furnished" once again.
This post will be edited by StormKeep at some point.

So in the space of a week in game: the Tinker household adopted a dog, Tina died after a rock climbing accident, her widow adopted a toddler, then a baby, then another baby, then another dog lol I might have to turn adoptions off for a bit.

It also seems like pregnancy is only tied to married couples which I dislike. I kinda wish single sims could randomly get pregnant because it would be fun to see who the fathers end up being!

I think because they’ve added phone calls of sims asking if they should date, it probably means autonomous dating/marriage might come in the next update of neighbourhood stories (and I’m hoping breakups and divorces too)

This feature is exciting. I never liked SP in previous games, but the customization options are great here. Now my neighborhoods can have pets and elders retire. I also like having random date calls too, if that is a feature? Awesome that I can change things globally and down to each household.

I think the amount of customization is great. I hope they will add sims dating, sims moving in with others they are very romantic with, and sims getting married and moving in together added to what they already have.

Several households have adopted pets which I really like, if not playing a family I'd never bother adding a pet so it's nice they do it themselves.
The Bjergsen family have had another 2 children and adopted a dog.
I'm wondering how the game decides who has children, do they need to be family orientated?
So far no one has moved.

MissyHissy has released a mod called Gossip About Neighbourhood Stories which will allow your Sims to find out about what’s going on in the world through socialising with other Sims.

Whenever your Sims use one of the following socials in conversation, you’ll get a Neighbourhood Story popup informing you of something that’s happened in the neighbourhood recently.

    Gossip
    Gossip About Neighbours
    Discuss Neighbourhood Changes

So I disabled adoption for everyone except the Heckings. Within 2 days, they adopted 4 kids. They’re now cut off. 😅

I played two in-game weeks on one save. I had only moving out disabled. Nothing much happened. Two Sims changed their careers and Bella & Mortimer Goth had one more child. No one adopted a child (or a pet) and no one died. I'm surprised. :o
I guess it's a good thing, but it's probably going to change when I change to another save.
