Just out of curiosity, what are the ages of all the Simmers out there?

    20-39 Years of Age
23 here. My brother gave me his Sims 1 Complete Collection when I was little, been with the series ever since.

It seems fitting that my age range would be the most common in the poll. Maybe it's a similar situation for others, who were young when the series first came about and have since grown with it?

That seems to be the case. Also, a lot of people in their 40's were in their 20's when it first came out, so that may explain why they are the second group in the poll.

There's a lot of older people playing games these days. I think when The Sims first came out, it was seen as childish to be over 20 and playing video games. Some people still think so, but I don't care.

I just didn't have the patience for the types of video games out there. This one appeals to me more. :)

late 20's started playing in 2000 when the original Sims came out. I used to worry what people would think if they found out I played and then I remembered I'm an adult, and I pay for my own life and if I want to play The Sims then that's my prerogative. :) So far most people remember playing when they were younger and it makes them think maybe they should try playing it again when they find out I still play!

Let's just say I am old enough to have been at Woodstock and Stonewall, but I would have been in diapers. I started with Sim City in my 20's and then tried out The Sims. Well, I am still here!

My first sims game was Sims 3, which I convinced my mum to buy in 2012.

I played Sim City when it was brand new, and a few later iterations, but The Sims didn't really grab my interest until I watched my 12-yo niece playing TS3 Supernatural one Christmas.

So yes, a virtual dollhouse has a fairly young appeal, but there are indeed plenty of us playing in our 50s. :)

I absolutely love that so many older people play the sims! It's so touching. And just goes to show how amazing of a series this is. It draws in people who would otherwise not play video games <3:)

I am nearly 30. Been playing since I was 10 years old. With The Sims 1! B)

So I always thought a game like The Sims would only appeal to people in their teens and twenties, but boy, was I proved wrong! I know a lot of people started playing this series since it came out nearly twenty years ago and would thus be much older now. I'd like to see just how many older people play this game. I'm in my early twenties and started playing at about 12, BTW.

EA_Lanna: Simmers, we encourage safe posting and ask that you please practice this. Please do not specify your exact age in comments if you are a minor. These comments will be removed per our rules.

Its funny to see that the players are mostly those like me that have grown up with sims 1/2/3... But, its also sad to see that the second smallest one is the newer generation of players. I can see why, Sims 4 is not appealing like it was back when i was kid. I would like the game quite as much as i did.

I have been playing the sims for 19 years. And I was 10 when i started. I love the sims 4. Also, don't think you can base how many young people play based off the forum. The game is doing well @Karon

As I understand if I am not a minor I can specify my age? I am 18! I have been playing The Sims since I was 10. I was so happy when I got The Sims 2 for the first time!

Yes and no. People who were teens in the 1970s when the first home videogame consoles came out are in their 50s, early 60s now. Video games aren't all that new, and from roughly Gen X forward, there has been a strong countervailing trend societally against allowing social norms to dictate what is age-appropriate.

While certain genres of video game may have a certain age and gender group as a core demographic (i.e. predominantly young and male, for competitive, action-based games), the entire Sim franchise, from Sim City on, has really defied expectations about what video gaming is and who it is for.

EA, acquiring Maxis, had no idea what this odd little life-simulator thing they had in development was, or who if anyone would play it. The Sims was a breakaway success precisely because it has broad appeal.

It may be marketed toward a young and largely female audience, but am a middle-aged guy (AARP would go so far as old!) and once I started playing, I've been hooked.

I also play build games, and various MMOs. The last FPS I had any time for was DOOM, when that was new. Just for context.

Agree! The sims fan base is extraordinarily diverse!

I'm 44, and The Sims is just the type of game that you can have fun with in more than one ways :D Building things satisfy my Build LEGO/Be an Architect Moodlet and then the game itself is just... I dunno, it's fun to be successful with everything sometimes :P
    You're Breathtaking!

26 been playing since I was 12. Brings back so many wonderful and awkward memories of my mom or cousin walking in the room while my Sims were woohooing like it was going out of style. XD I had an infinity for very large families. Too bad Sims Life's Story didn't allow more than 4 sims to a family.

I'm 50 and just bought my first proper gaming laptop. My husband told the young man that served us that I only wanted it to play sims on, I thought he'd be shocked but he just said he loves sims and we shared tips on the game.

I will never be "too old" for games. >:)
Thanks to the Sims, and other games, I learned my way around a PC way faster, and have enjoyed many games that I never imagined I'd ever get into. :D

I never caught any flack at my local GameStop. In fact, the personnel there knew up front what I was coming in for. LOL I once said, "let there be Sims" and the kid behind the counter serving me laughed and nodded his head. They were very nice there. I've already answered this poll, but I'll mention I just turned 64 this past April.

I also never had any issues with people working at the stores I buy my games at, but my male friends would often say that The Sims is a gay game. I didn't care what they said, lol (I'm not fully straight anyway, but the fact of the matter is that a video game doesn't determine your sexual orientation).

I'm in my early twenties. I've been playing the sims since I was 13 and started with The Sims 3. I made a replica of my real life family, started to build a nice big house, and ran out of money! I ended up with a house of the cheapest beds, ugly carpet flooring, cheapest kitchen, and cheapest bathroom, and bare walls. Boy, they were pretty miserable at the time! Nowadays I am still going strong and I just brought back my copy of Sims 2. That game seems so primitive compared to today's standards!

I love that we have seniors on these forums and playing the game. My grandmother doesn't play The Sims, although I would play the game while she watched and we both found the game hilarious! She calls it "The game with the people".
