This computer also has Windows 8.1 and a moderate protective suite of software.
I will continue to click buttons, with each update, until I find a solution that works or at least halts this blasted curse.
In the meantime, if you would be so kind, please keep us posted.
It may sound odd, but...
I am actually enjoying chasing this one down.
I WANT a solution! ~smiles~
Best wishes
&
~happy simming~
I will definitely keep posting here about this issue. This time I didn't turn off my anti virus or firewall, and I don't think that was what was interfering with it now. I'd read about that on the EA site where other people were having the same problem.
This has only been happening with this computer now for the last 5 patches, and had never done it before, and it's about 3 years old now, so I don't know why it's started to happen now.
I'm just happy I'm able to fix it without getting overly stressed ( just mildly), and am already prepared for it to happen each time I begin to patch!
Speak to you next month
I have windows 8.1 as well and the last 2 updates were not fun, it would get to the point of installing about 80% when I would get the message that it couldn't finish because one or more files were in use, turns out that windows wanted an update as well, as soon as I updated windows, I was able to update the game. I don't know if this is your problem, I just thought I would add this to the things it might be.
My update for win 1.8 happened the same day funnily enough, but I don't remember all the other times if there had been an update on the same day, but I will check for that the next time.
I never have the files in use message, I've been getting an error like error - 327682:0 as soon as it's finished downloading.

Hello @Marshal001
I am sorry that you are having this issue.
If your sims 4 game is installed on the C drive , it would be best to move /install it on the D drive. You are getting lower on free space on the C drive. There is more space on the D drive. It would also be best to move your documents folder to the D drive also.
So I did all of that, clean install and all, and it crashed on me again. Any ideas?
Hello
I am sorry that you are having these issues. Does the computer crash at other times when you aren't playing the sims ?
Try going to Windows Update and make sure that your computer is uptodate with game patches.
Try uninstalling and reinstallling origin and see if that helps,
No, its only when I try to play The Sims that it crashes. I redid my origins install to my D drive and The Sims is installed there as well. The laptop I'm on is not even six months old, which is why this is confusing me.

Hello
Your laptop meets the requirements to play the game well.
I am sorry that you are having these issues.
Try seeing if playing in offline mode may help with the issues.
This is SOOOOOOOO frustrating! It's working again now after a whole load of angst! Restart this, repair, that shut down, restart - Origin even tricked me into nearly updating TS3 as it had changed sides in my library. Good job I noticed and quickly cancelled. I don't want that last TS3 patch!
BUT, at least again i didn't have to uninstall and reinstall Origin. Its just time consuming and annoying!

It is good that it is working again. I am sorry though that you have issues each time there is an update.

1st up - ~waves~ @Jagwithtude and says Thank-YOU for your help and input!
Hi @rosemeow, Thank-YOU for sticking with this one and helping those in need.
Several of your posts have saved the day for me. I appreciate you and all you put into this game, ~warm smile~
Please forgive me for delaying my own test and frustrations. A couple of weeks ago, I decided to jump on the MODS wagon and only have a test game at the moment. I have been playing off-line to keep my game clean, until I can sort of understand the MODS that I installed.
"WEAK!" I know, but, I am s-l-o-w. ~smiles~
Anyways, I heard your yelp and downloaded this latest update. ~weeping~
Here, would you like to share a box of tissues? Last month gave me hope.
Fail!
This month, it did not take long to get passed the block, but yes, I am feeling your pain.
I did as Jagwithtude suggested and triple checked Windows Update, along with my old style update, clean, reboot, etc process...
Although, now I am wondering...
It did not take much effort to get back in this time. Shutdown, reboot, clean registry, repair game, and done. That is something, yes?!
I'm just wondering; each time we have a patch update there's a windows update. I had updated windows, but having looked in update history part of it had failed to install/update, this computer has had a habit of that recently, I manually updated that part, after I'd tried updating TS4 - I wonder if that's been my problem. Next time I'll check windows has completely successfully updated. That is the only thing now I can think of.
Hello
It may be best to run windows update each time before you update either the game or origin, and make sure that your computer is fully updated first. Simmers have found that there has been issues when windows update is trying to update the computer, at the same time the game /Origin is updating.
Here we go again! Error! No windows update today either.
This time after it failed it said there's an update even after I downloaded the update, so I'm re downloading.
It's just sitting there finalizing and has been for ages. It's done this every time so I'm trying to re,main positive. It better happen soon as I'm going to be busy in 15 minutes.
Okay, it's worked, but that was the worst one yet. I got the BSOD at one stage, I couldn't use my laptop for anything as I can only guess that Origin was doing something in the background. Nightmare!
I can now surmise that this problem is not related to windows updates, anti-virus or firewall, so I don't know where the problem is laying.
All I know it'll be probably on going and the fix is (in my case) to run the patch, and once it fails to update, do a game repair, let it run it's course without turning anything off when it takes forever to finalize as that's when I had the BSOD and virtual laptop freeze. Patience. I wonder how many other people are going through this, or if it's just my computer.

Make sure that the game is using your nividia graphics card

To change where the sims 4 game is installed , go to Application settings, and the setting will be under "Installs and Saves "
This explains how to move your documents folder.
