Medibang for the program. I used to use that but then I found Paintstorm Studio which is about $20 but it's like so good, even better than Paint Tool Sai or Clip Studio Paint which are like $40 plus.
Tablets, I'd say start with one that doesn't have a screen cuz they're cheaper but you really have to practice your hand eye coordination. Maybe A Huion or XP-Pen is a good cheap alternative if you don't want a Wacom.

Ah, yeah. I think probably the white and grey color of their coats reminds you of grandpa hair, as well as the texture, which is kind of reminiscent of uncombed hair, which can happen in older people. I think their eyes often look tires because their hair covers their eyes, so you can't see them.

I like big dogs too. I think small ones are more likely to be yippy and annoying. Not all of them, mind you, but some of them.
