At the hospital "the patient" appeared to be asleep.
Soon, he woke, dazed, wondering where he was.
He asked the cube what his future holds.
He decided to go upstairs, but...
"I'm sorry, but that is strictly off-limit for non-personnel", Dr Andrew Black stopped him.
"Who are you? And why am I here?" the bear asked.
"Wouldn't you just like to know", Dr Black replied.
"Let me out this minute!" the bear shouted.
Dr Black left the bear in his...er, room...to enter some important information into his database.
His brother, Mr Blue asked: "What are you up to downstairs? I keep hearing these strange howling noises."
"It's just a turbine generator thing", Dr Black replied. "Nothing for you to worry about. Can you get the door?"
David approached the lady at the door.
"No, I'm sorry, this isn't the Psychological Evaluation Centre. We're just a research facility."
Meanwhile, Dr Charles Grey had a serious talk with the bear...
A few days later Armeleia decided to go visit Lisa at her new home.
"We're just about to have dinner. Come join us!" Lisa said.
Afterwards everyone went into the games room.
But why was mrs Miller, the landlady, looking so shady?
Armeleia wasn't feeling well.
Not too well at all.
Oh. Oops.
"Honey, I'm sorry. I'm not feeling too well", Armeleia said.
"Uh-huh", Lisa replied. She seemed a little pre-occupied.
Armeleia decided to sit down and rest for a little while.
"I need to go out for a bit, mum", Lisa said. "Stay here as long as you like. I might be late."
"I already feel a little better. Don't worry, darling", Armeleia replied. "I'll just sit here and chat with Mrs Miller."
Mrs Miller looked grumpier than ever.
A little later, in another house in Windenburg.
"Hi."
On her way home, Lisa stopped by Zoe's place.
"Mum is doing a lot better now. She's going to see a specialist soon", Lisa said.
"I've heard", Zoe replied. "I'm happy for her."
"Maybe you could give her a call some day."
"I don't know. I might. We'll see", Zoe said, sighing.
She sounded sad, Lisa thought.
Back home, Lisa and Alma sat down to do their homework.
"Do you like him?" Lisa asked.
"Who?" Alma said.
"John."
"Oh, him. Yeah, he's alright."
"I mean, he's a bit of a goof, isn't he?" Alma laughed.
"Hm..." Lisa mumbled something inaudible.
"But then, so are you!" Alma continued.
"I am?" Lisa looked incredulous.
"Yes, but in a good way, I mean. You'll be great together."
"By the way, I think I saw your mum on a date the other day", Alma lowered her voice.
"What?!" Lisa exclaimed. "Oh, no. I just told Zoe to call her."
"That might turn out a bit awkward", Alma said.
Meanwhile, in a park on the other side of town, Armeleia is throwing a coin into a wishing well.
The next evening, Lisa asked John over to her house.
"Um, John?" Lisa called.
"What are you doing?"
"Oh, there was this cute little frog here!"
"That's Alma's boyfriend", Lisa laughed.
"No, but seriously, he's really nice. Alma just invited him over too."
Lisa and John sat down to watch some television. Although, perhaps their focus was on something else...
Alma and her date Raphaël were enjoying some good old-fashioned disco dancing.
"Everyone says my moustache makes me look really distinguished", Raphaël said.
"It tickles", Alma giggled.
When it was time to say goodnight, Lisa finally plucked up the courage to reveal her feelings to John.
Over at the "Research Facility" there was a knock on the door and Charles came running to answer it.
Ah! he thought. Another research candidate. Just my luck that brother David didn't tell him to leave.
"Hello and welcome to the Dr Black's Research Institute!" Charles began.
But the guest didn't look very impressed.
"Let me show you our facilities. The very latest in cardiovascular research."
"Oh, you mean like a treadmill?" asked the guest.
"Yes, only we will attach electrodes to your head and scan your brain for any activity."
"Scan my brain?"
"Are you one of those aliens?" the guest asked, glaring at Charles.
Just then, Dr Andrew Black entered the room.
"Why, Charles, do we have a visitor?"
"He was just about to leave", Charles said.
"Yes, I was. I'm not about to be subjected to some alien experiment!"
And he stormed out, just as yet another household member came back home.
Dr Andrew was very angry at his brother.
"Are you insane? You jeopardised our mission by letting that...that human in here! We still have so much work to do on the bear."
Dr Charles went downstairs to check on Bear.
"Oh, that's a pity."
"Bahahaha!"
"Hey, buddy! Long time no see", he greeted The Reaper.
"My name is not Buddy", Grim mumbled.
"It's so good to see you again", Charles continued.
"You're weird, but whatever."
"I did some research the other day", Charles continued. "And I've concluded that if we harvest just one more Human, we can power the space rocket with enough gas to take us back home to Sixam."
"Listen", said Grim. "I've heard about this before, but never actually seen it done."
"Just you watch."
Charles was mighty pleased with himself after his little chat with Buddy...er, Grim.
At dinner later, Andrew asked his brother: "How is that thing going?"
"Good, good", Charles replied.
But their siblings were as suspicious as ever of the two.
"What are the two of you up to downstairs? Why won't you let us see?"
"Never you mind!" Andrew and Charles replied defensively.
That evening Lisa finished writing her very first book: "The Adventures of Princess Lisa in Space".
She posted it to a few publishers, hoping that one of them would like it and that maybe one day she would be a famous writer.
Later on, her mother came over and heard the news.
"That's wonderful!" she exclaimed.
"By the way, I bumped into Zoe..."
"...and she asked me out!"
"We were at The Ruins and I met these really nice guys, David and...er, Barry? Bernie! They invited me over for a party at their place next week. Turns out they live in that strange new house by the hospital."
"Oh, also, I'm having my birthday party this weekend. You and Alma should come!"
---
Lisa was the first to arrive at Armeleia's birthday bash.
There was hamburger cake!
"Congratulations, mummy! I love you so much."
"Aw, darling. I love you too."
Everyone cheered as Armeleia blew out the candles.
(Except Alma, who was moping about failing a maths test at school.)
It was a lovely party and the cake was excellent.
Once everyone had gone, Armeleia played some guitar by herself in the garden.
"Oh, you have some really interesting traits!" Charles deduced after his analysis.
"Huh, what?"
"Please wait here, while I go make your room ready for you."
"Oh, ok. My room?"
But Charles was already gone.
Suddenly, David appeared.
"It's better if you leave now. This is just a research facility, not the hospital", David warned the townie.
"Oh, my! It isn't?"
"Try the main building instead."
"Thank you, I will."
"Whatever it is you think you are doing I will have none of that at my birthday party this weekend!" David admonished his brother.
"Fine. Then I won't eat the cake you bake!"
At Lisa's house, Alma was taking a selfie of herself to send to Raphaël. Look at this strange plant Mrs Miller just planted!
Indeed, Mrs Miller paid extra attention to this one.
She was unusually protective of it, accusing Raphaël of tampering with it!
Even Lisa got her fair share of scolding.
She truly loved that plant like no other.
And one day, or rather evening, it blossomed into a magnificent cowplant.
"Here, pretty girl!" Mrs Miller cooed.
But this plant, there was something going on with it.
Lisa didn't like sitting in the courtyard doing her homework with that thing staring at her.
Mrs Miller, I wouldn't take that cake, if I were you...
Ewww!
But Mrs Miller wasn't one to heed advice from...er, strangers.
"Deborah Mailer...Meller?...Miller! Ah, here we are", Grim said to himself as he scrolled down the list for the day. "No next of kin. Nobody around to plead for your soul. Ah, well. That's a shame."
A little later, Alma and Lisa came back from school.
"Um, hi?" Lisa said.
"Yeah, hi. In the yard. Your landlady died", Grim said as he wrote an exceptionally sarcastic reply to a forum post.
"What should I do?" Lisa asked.
"Milk it?" Alma suggested, half-jokingly.
The weekend had finally arrived and it was time for David's party!
The brothers had all come to a temporary understanding. Even Charles had promised to behave, although he kept eyeing the caterer suspiciously.
"Hooray for David!"
"I'm so happy we're all here enjoying ourselves together!" David exclaimed, looking at Charles.
"Uh-huh", Charles agreed, glancing at Armeleia.
"I could use a trip to the ladies", she quipped.
"I'll show you", Charles immediately volunteered.
"Charles, remember..." David began as Bernie yawned.
"Sorry, it's been a long day", Bernie said.
"It's right this way", Charles said as he lead the way. Such a strange house, Armeleia thought as she looked at the clinical walls. It really does look like a hospital.
"Just follow me", Charles said.
But the minute they came downstairs...
"Did you see where Charles and Armeleia went?" David asked.
"No. I thought she was with you."
"You're not going anywhere until you tell me what you did with my friend, our guest!" David demanded.
"Oh, she said she had to go home and watch the BETween channel special. No worries", Charles said.
"You're lying!"
"How can you say that about your own brother?"
"Tell me where she is!"
"Help! Help! David is hitting me!" Charles yelled.
"Don't worry. I'm here", Bernie said.
"Oh, no no no", Charles pleaded.
"Oh wow, what did you do?" David exclaimed.
"Oops, I think I freeze-ray'ed him", Bernie giggled.
David whispered to his brother:
"I think Charles and Andrew have been conducting secret experiments! I think they killed a bear!"
"What?"
"Is that the howling I've been hearing at night? I thought I was just dreaming."
"Um, hello", Armeleia shouted.
"Will someone let me out of here?"
A few minutes later, David and Bernie managed to open the door and let Armeleia out.
"We're so sorry! We had no idea this was going on. Can you forgive us?" David pleaded.
"I thought you were my friends!" Armeleia said.
Just as Armeleia stormed off, their brother Andrew appeared around the corner - without his human disguise.
"What have you done? She was our last hope of getting back to Sixam!" he shouted.
"No! This stops now!" David replied. "No more experimenting on humans!"
"You are not welcome here anymore", David and Bernie said.
David and Bernie hugged each other.
"You did good", Bernie said. "I'm going to go change and wait for Charles to thaw."
A few hours later, the ice around Charles began to crack.
A few days after Mrs Miller's untimely passing, Alma and Lisa were asked to come to the Windenburg lawyers Axton & Ting's office.
"Urgh, I have the worst pain the neck!" Lisa complained.
"Been spending too many nights with John?" Alma teased.
"Welcome, Miss Bramble. How are you?" Mr Axton asked.
"Um, yeah...alright, I suppose", Lisa replied, still a little confused by what was happening. Then she added: "Are we going to have to move now?"
"Well, now, you see, it seems Mrs Miller didn't have any relatives of her own. But she appeared to think of you and Miss Landon as her daughters", the lawyer continued.
"Really?" Lisa looked surprised.
"Yes, indeed! So she has left the house to you. You don't need to move."
"This is amazing!" Lisa and Alma exclaimed. They were both so relieved.
Mr Axton and his colleague Ms Ting accompanied the girls back to the house so they could settle everything with the contract.
"Carl, come here and have a look at this painting", Ms Ting said.
"This is undoubtedly a masterpiece by the famous Alicia Orchid! Miss Bramble! Miss Landon!"
"Miss Landon, this painting is worth several thousand Simoleons! If you sell it, you will never have to worry about paying your bills ever again."
That evening the girls celebrated by throwing a joint birthday bash and inviting both their respective boyfriends and Armeleia.
John embraced Lisa.
"I am so happy for you", he whispered in her ear.
As they were saying good night, Lisa said to her mother:
"I've been thinking, mum. Now that Mrs Miller's rooms are empty, would you like to move in with us?"
"You mean, so that you don't have to cook dinner?" Armeleia laughed.
"No! Mum, don't be silly. I worry about you and I thought maybe..."
"Sweetie, of course. I would love to. Thank you."
At Lisa and Alma's house, Armeleia was feeling a little down that morning.
"Lisa, darling, I've been a terrible mum to you. I am so sorry for letting you down."
"No, mum! Look at me! I turned out alright in the end, didn't I?"
"And you know what, I have this idea!"
"Look at this, I've seen the most amazing house."
"Now that we've inherited old Mrs Miller's money, I thought maybe we could buy a house. And live in it together."
"Oh, it will be just like the old times! You and me against the world."
"Um, well..."
"Darling, it will be wonderful!"
"Yeah, mum, we need to talk about this..."
"Hey John! We're moving to a new house!"
"Isn't it amazing! Me and Lisa, just like the old days!" Armeleia exclaimed.
"Mum...John will be moving with us too."
"Well...that's wonderful too, of course. John, can you handle to wild girls like us?"
"I think I'll be ok, Mrs Bramble."
Armeleia went inside to chat with Zoe about the good news.
Alma joined Lisa and John outside.
"So, your mum thought it would be just the two of you?"
"Well, yes. But it's ok. It's a huge place! It's practically two houses."
"Squee, maybe I can come live with you also then!"
"No, no! There will be enough crazy as it is already!"
The night before the big move, Armeleia said she had something to tell Lisa.
"I've asked Zoe to marry me!"
"You did...what?"
"It was so romantic! We found the most amazing place to hold our wedding, just next to the ruins."
"That's wonderful news, mum!"
"And do you remember that John and I once exchanged promise rings?"
Later on, Lisa told Alma about the whole thing.
"Maybe we should just have a double wedding. What do you think?"
"Sounds great", Alma said, but she seemed a little lost in thought.
Alma was in fact remember a conversation she had had with some of Raphaël's friends.
"I think marriage is an outdated form of relationships", Gavin had said. "It just creates all these unnecessary expectations."
"But it's romantic, isn't it!" Alma had tried to argue.
"No, seriously", Raphaël had responded. "Trust me on this. I've seen so many failed marriages. I do not want to go down that road. I want to live happily with my significant other, but not make promises I can't keep."
The following morning, Alma was still thinking about Lisa's news, while Raphaël made breakfast.
"Do you remember when we had Gavin and Claire over? When we talked about marriage and stuff?"
"Yes?" Raphaël asked, while trying not to spill the scrambled eggs all over the counter.
"Did you really mean that?" Alma asked.
"I suppose", Raphaël replied.
Leaving for work, Alma thought she might give this new type of relationship a try.
This is weird because I made a comment and hit post. but it didn't show up??
Oh well lol. I just wanted to say that Lisa is such a cutie It's also nice to see a mom that's not super young, don't think I've seen that before in a story. For the longest time I wanted to say that the mom wasn't crazy.. just eccentric, but then the clothes came off outdoors and it was kinda a done deal. xD

Will definitely keep an eye on this story.
Thank you!
Yes, Armeleia is meant to be borderline-something. I deliberately made her a little unpredictable. I wanted this story to not be all happy-go-lucky, but also contain some of the real life struggles for someone coping with mental illness. But she does have a kind heart.
just wanted to say that I started reading this the other day when I registered to the forums. Your scenes are really beautiful and I really enjoy this story. I think Armeleia is my favorite character.

I'm so happy to hear that! She's perhaps not instantly likeable, but I like her anyway.

"It's all your fault! You and your meddling into my affairs!"
"Me?! Who was it that insisted on trying to lure a human into the cellar in the middle of Brother 4's birthday party?"
"You should have known better! And now we've lost everything. We're never going back to Sixam."
"Oh! So your brilliant plan to kill a bear didn't make everyone suspicious?"
"Meh. It was still a brilliant plan."
"Oh, you...you..."
"I'm going to erase your mind and make you my servant."
"I swear I was supposed to be doing something else...but what was it?"
"I'm just going to read Wildlife Digest. Don't burn the burgers!"
Meanwhile, back at the big house, David (aka Brother 4) is browsing the Sims Property Pages.
"Oh, this looks nice!"
Thank you! It means a lot to know somebody is actually following along.
Update coming later today. I've been quite busy the last couple of weeks, so haven't updated as often as I wanted.

just wanted to say that I started reading this the other day when I registered to the forums. Your scenes are really beautiful and I really enjoy this story. I think Armeleia is my favorite character.

Thank you!
I'm so happy to hear that! She's perhaps not instantly likeable, but I like her anyway.
