This is my first try doing one of these challenges.

I often tend to get caught up in the progression of the story and forget to take pictures. That being said, I will try my best to press that "c" key as often as possible and capture some of the highlights of the challenge.

Created by SamelaRita, the challenge post with the rules can be found here http://forums.thesims.com/en_US/discussion/920867/the-renovacy-challenge-a-new-and-short-challenge/p1
I choose The McPhail Renovacy. It can be found here http://samelasstories.blogspot.co.uk/2017/06/the-mcphail-renovacy.html

The McPhail Renovacy

Week 1 - Day 1

Having just married against her parents will Patience and Euan find themselves with a rundown house, no income and pregnant. Patience seems to think the place is haunted as well.

Euan wants to get inside and fix a meal. However it looks like there is a tree growing in the middle of the kitchen floor. He can't get to the stove to cook. He decides to start clearing the lot of all the over grown weeds and shrubs and even starts a small garden.

Meanwhile, Patience decided to go dumpster diving with hope of finding some used furniture. Alas all she came away with was a couple of butterflies, a couple of worthless rocks, a chair and a gem stone, emerald I think. All told it only amounted to a few hundred dollars.

While she was gone Euan found some old lumber and fixed the holes in the floor. They decided to save the money that Patience had from selling her dumpster finds . After Patience had a good soak in the tub Euan made some pancakes for lunch.

Since Euan did the cooking, Patience did the cleaning up. At least this place had hot running water.

Since there was absolutly no form of entertainment in the house they decided a trip to the library was in order. Euan read up on gardening and Patience found a baby book she hoped would prepare her for motherhood.

After having a full day, they both fell into bed, exhausted but happy and had sweet dreams.

    ** waves** Hello, @Kgaff :)

Your version of the McPhail couple was nicely done! LOVED how you worked in the thought bubbles and replacing the flooring ... really gave a feel for the characters and how tight money is for them. I shall enjoy reading your take on things and try my best not to regret what I've done or not done as a result. Ha ha

Oh, I love stories, and this one is no exception. The patched floors are awesome and something I'd hate looking at in my own game. I see he has freckles. I didn't notice that before. I love the thought bubbles incorporated into the story too!

I like the patched floors too! And Euan trying to cook round the tree in the kitchen (in my head when I created it, a seed had blown in through the cracked and broken window and just taken root there. And the roof probably leaked enough to keep it watered until its roots were deep enough to reach the water table), and looking so patient and determined. Looking forward to the next chapter.

Great story and adventure with this family, I understand how hard it could be to be in this situation. A big pleasure reading your first chapter.

Thanks Addy, I really have no idea what I'm doing yet, just trying to make it all work. :)

I had to do something with the floors! I think I will let their thoughts lead me along in the story.

Thanks to you for building the place and writing a wonderful lead in story. I wanted them to start out plain and simple doing all that back breaking work to make the place habitable again. It took almost two full days of scrubbing to get all that paint off and I keep finding more!

Thank you for your kind comment, keep tuned and we'll follow the adventure as it goes.

    The McPhail Renovacy

    Week 1 - Day 2

DAY 2 was a very busy day with lots of stuff going on. Patience did some gathering and dumpster diving and Euan did some work around the house. This is a very picture heavy post, so I'm going to divide it into smaller sections.

The next day was sunny and warm. The house was looking better already without all the shrubs and broken porches. Thank goodness there was plenty of old barn wood available for free.

    Early morning

Patience tried her hand at dumpster diving again and Eureka! She snagged a Fortune cookie maker worth big bucks.
    25234235437_e95547c4a8_c.jpg
    40073915572_4630daf969_z.jpg

All of a sudden she felt a strange twinge in her tummy. UH OH! Could it be?
Yup, pregnant. No more dumpster diving for her.

    25234234897_353811f7e5_c.jpg

She didn't really know what to do next so she simply wandered around town and ended up at a community garden. A lot of the plants were ripe and ready for picking so she helped herself to a few she thought Euan might be able to plant in his garden. Berries were her favorite.
    39394402264_60451c7392_c.jpg

While she was at the garden she discovered a huge pile of old green house windows. They looked in excellent shape. She took off looking for the caretaker to ask if she could have them.
"These would be so nice to replace the broken windows at our house. How much would you ask for them?"
"These old things," said the caretaker. "You can have them for 10 simoleons each if you haul them away yourself. Plus I'll throw in the old screen door."
"DEAL!" cried Patience. She then called Euan to come help her get them home. Doesn't that look better now :)

    39394397764_dc32ef560f_c.jpg

    Back at the house

Meanwhile, Euan had been hard at work cleaning up some of the graffiti starting at the front door.
    39394408704_9d59527a5a_c.jpg

He then took all the wood planks off the windows, washed and re-glazed they look like new.
    39394409154_15ecfa5438_c.jpg

Patience came home and took a nice long soak in the tub while Euan learned to make salad for lunch, a nice break from pancakes.
    25234233717_fd613da87a_c.jpg
    25234232957_a8dd202db1_c.jpg

After the dishes were cleared they tackled the upstairs graffiti. Euan would get it started with Patience following along to clean the remainder. They made quite a team and it was done in no time.
    39394403314_e89138039e_c.jpg

    Later that evening

Finally they had some time to sit and chat. Euan wanted to talk about his plans for the house but Patience kept interrupting with talk of teddy bears and kids building blocks.
    25234232557_fda18510a1_c.jpg
    25234231657_5ebc7c695e_c.jpg[/url]

Euan looked at Patience, "what are you going on about? Why do we need teddy bears and blocks? Can't you see what we need to do around here?"
"Oh Euan, please stop talking about floors and walls for 5 seconds! I have something important to tell you. We are going to have a baby."

    39394405224_d52e913c60_c.jpg

"A b-b-baby! Oh my goodness! You've made me so h-h-happy!" And he kissed his lovely wife tenderly. "L-l-let's t-t-ake a p-p-photo to mm-mark the occasion"
    39394404784_62826f0efd_c.jpg

And they hung the photo on the wall knowing that this was probably the last time they would be alone in the house.

Note: Euan got a new trait today from all that art removal - Handy

Loved the way you had Euan stammering again when he heard about the baby - so in character! And I liked the idea of Patience getting a load of windows on the cheap - and the old ones cleaned up and reglazed looked great.

Another terrific chapter/update! Love how your renovations are coming along in the form of them collecting & refurbishing items that others no longer want. Fantastic use of reminding readers of Euan's stutter during a moment where it could definitely occur.

Definitely looking forward to seeing where their lives take them as well as the renovation process.

    The McPhail Renovacy

    Week 1 - Day 3

Patience and Euan are not themselves. They seem reluctant to leave the house but I make them because money is tight and there are bills in the mailbox.

    Overnight
The house underwent some changes over night (I already showed you a sneak peak with the windows. All the renovations took place at night). The windows were replaced, scrubbed the kitchen and bathroom clean and painted every wall bright white (for now) . The floors have all been recovered as well, mostly with free wood except the kitchen and bath that were re-tiled. Patience mad a 1,000 simoleon donation. Cute little halo ;)

    Morning - Day 3

Patience was feeling tired this morning and slept in while Euan woke up early and went dumpster diving. He scored a tv, an end table and lamp. He also got a rug and some kitchen decor. He promptly sold the tv.

    39394400894_b338ce4cb3_c.jpg

When Patience woke she walked over the festival grounds and gathered flowers, she sold some and kept a few. Feeling a bit achy she went home and started painting some pictures for the baby's room.
Euan spent some time in the garden.

    40086219652_4c2f1b7354_c.jpg

    That afternoon

Euan came in from the garden, gave Patience a peck on the cheek and went upstairs to bathe. The very moment Euan gets in the tub Patience goes into labor and climbs into a taxi and heads to the hospital alone.

    40119209741_4696b5e8d2_c.jpg
Euan manages to get to the hospital but can only pace back and forth at the entrance
    40086219002_f56b1e79fc_c.jpg
All at once Patience comes flying out of the hospital "COME ON! Have I got a surprise for you!"

Two girls and a boy! I got three girls when I played her, like ADWilson did. So it's not pre-decided what the children will be when they conceive. Liked the idea of Patience painting pictures for the baby's bedroom. I liked the matching initials for their names as well. Have fun with htem :D

Re the baby gender: if you have all girls programmed and then eat a bunch of apples, you'll get a baby boy too!

    Day 4 & 5

These two days are an absolute blur...

Euan and Patience need to learn some parenting skills and get their act together!
One parent brings a baby downstairs and the other immediately scoops it up and takes it back up.

Thanks for sharing their next stage. I've never thought of doing night time pictures like your first one - I keep getting so many new good ideas from reading all these stories. I think because they're on the same lots, I notice the details more instead of just trying to take in the big picture.
