Also @Ainsleyf (or any other builder that does well in these comps) - do you have any building tips for these comps? I always feel as though my builds are lackluster compared to others
You're welcome @Ainsleyf --- and I'll be sure to pm you when I go , but I know that going to Ireland from the US, will take awhile for us to save up for...lol !
Yikes...please forgive me as I went out for a drink and it turned into a champagne and a chocolate martini..weee! I'm, thankfully, out of practice! @Hew310..no no no!!! You're house is lovely!! You're peeps are lovely! You did a marvelous job! If I got down on myself because I like other people's builds more, I'd never build anything. As for tips, I could give you hundreds!!! I'll put some in a spoiler so I don't take up so much room
First...people look at curb appeal, so keep checking what it'll look like in the gallery..you know, go to save but don't save. Keep checking what it looks like in different light. Sometimes morning looks better than afternoon and vice versa, but usually the evening shots look best as they add a pink light.
Second, google houses, different styles, different sizes and take ideas from one and mix with the next. Keep in mind you can't do multi level, but I often find the build I've based on a picture takes on it's own life and I just go with it.
Third, and I need to listen to myself here as I usually get impatient and post before I have to: Try to create each part of the build as if it's the only thing you're posting. See if it stands alone without the rest of the creation. Take a day off and look back to see if it's still working. Like I said, I need to take my own advice here.
Four..Play: stick things in other things, combine things, see if it works or if it doesn't just trash it. Sometimes the happy accidents will surprise you.
Five: in Sim building I find that more is more. Columns, spandrels, little bits can turn dreary into some great stuff.
Six: take advantage of the fact that there are wonderful people like rosemow who can cure all woes if they're curable and cbear who will take the time to download your build and really look at it. They have a wealth of information to share.
I started in these challenges back in March, so less than a year ago, and thanks to people like @cbear13 and her wonderful challenges and critiques, and @rosemow with her kindness and wealth of Sim knowledge, I've improved drastically. If I had one wish, it would be to find a hobby that I could make a living at..haha!! But then, it probably wouldn't be as much fun! You're doing great..just stick with it and do it because you like doing it and not for the result. That's my biggest tip of all. Hope you have an amazing new year and I look forward to seeing all of your future creations! @coolsim99999999 - I used to be a tour guide in Ireland, that's how I ended up living there for a year. I would be happy to help you out with any tips I can give you. I'll message you the link to the special aerlingus package deal site, and as long as you or your husband is willing to rent a car and drive on the left, you can do your own trip and save quite a bit of dosh (money) @rosemow..you are probably the sweetest person on the forums. Thanks for the kind words and everything you do. @cbear13 - thank you for the great challenges and for all the great advice and I hope you can see how much I've improved at building because you take the time to help us all in these challenges.
Happy New Year to you all and I hope it's the happiest year for all of us!!
