Lot, Size, Address & Final Cost: The Luther Abode, 30x30, 365 Oak Grove Rd & $133,476
Lot Description & Details: A pseudo-steampunk build that was a lot of fun. I wouldn't normally do the challenge when it's this big because of time restraints, but as soon as I saw the inspirational objects, I got an idea and had to. I'm glad I managed to finish it.
Constructive Criticism: Yes, please.
Credit To Simmers For Custom Content Used: All custom content from ModtheSims or Garden of Shadows.
Lot Description & Details: A very tropical retreat! I think you'll easily guess which inspiration object I chose To achieve a tropical feel, a mix of light and dark woods and wicker were used throughout the house. Animal prints and floral fabrics were employed as well.
Constructive Criticism: Yes, please.

Here is a simple solution to correct the tile problem on the second floor:
Now click the undo button, which will put the foundation square back. Then use the "moveobjects on" cheat to place the column back in position. DO NOT use the undo button to put the column back as it will recreate the problem. You can now place a tile in the empty space on the second floor. Also, DO NOT use the CFE cheat to do this. It will mess up the walls if you do. An explanation: When you use the CFE cheat, as was used here to create the garage, there can be a stray piece that gets left in the air that interferes with building above it. This procedure gets rid of that stray piece that was preventing the tile from being placed. I hope that this was helpful.
Thanks for the tip! That is a much easier solution than fooling with CFE
And I see you guys found the super secret side challenge for the advanced folks.
Haha, just kidding! So sorry for the floor tile trouble. I didn't even notice it! For those that can get it fixed, great! For those that can't, no biggie.
Thanks for those who are sharing their quick fixes. I love a good diagram!
I love seeing all the different ways everyone went with this house it's awesome!
Everyones entries look so great! Good luck with the judging judges hehehe.
Lot, Size, Address & Final Cost: 30x30, 30 Ferry Lane (Barnacle Bay), $146,458
Lot Description & Details: A quaint cape cod styled house built at the top of a cliff, The Seaview has a large living room, spacious kitchen, beautiful windowed dining room that seats 8, 3 full baths, and 3.5 bedrooms. The backyard has gated access to a small beach at the base of the cliff, a small stocked pond, and a inviting firepit.
Constructive Criticism: Oh, yes please!
Credit To Simmers For Custom Content Used: I only used three things, all of them from the sims resource:
bbb vase orchids by babybluebug
one more slot package - bed by Tiro22222
modern design pillow by RicciNumbers
The vase is on the dining room table. The OMSP is used to hold the modern design pillows on the bed in the sun room to make the bed still useable.
This was a particularly fun challenge this week and I'm glad I had time to finish it. Let me explain the 3.5 bedroom thing. See i was almost done with my design when I spotted the 4 bedroom part of the rules. Well I loved the design I already had so I decided that I would work with what I had left, which was the small open room at the end of the 2nd floor hallway. I decided that I would put a bed in there, sorta like a day bed, or an extra bed for guests. I'm hoping that satisfies the rules.
Freizha dear you need to upload some pics of your home, the link just leads to your studio. If you do not already have one you should get an account with Photobucket http://photobucket.com/ ( or something like it). Then take some pic's of your home and upload them. With photobucket you can upload fullsize pics so that the detail can be seen better.
Since judging will be based on screenshots, we figured this would be a good time to go over some tips and tricks in taking good screenshots to help showcase your lovely builds.
1) Camera Man Mode - This is a must in taking good shots! You will have to be in live mode to do this, but just hit "TAB" to enter this mode. Once you are in this mode, you can use the mouse to freely control the angles and use "W, A, S, D" buttons to move forward, backwards, and side to side. "Z" zooms in, "X" zooms out. "Q" moves up and "E" moves down. "C" to capture the shot.
2) Find the perfect angle - With photography, it is all about finding the right angle. Spend some time in camera man mode to find the perfect angle. Get down to a sim's point of view to take the best shots of rooms.
3) Walls up - Most people play with walls cut away, but when you are taking pictures of your lot, try to keep your walls up to make your shots look more realistic.
4) No grids - Unless you need to show the grid for a specific purpose, make sure no build/buy grid is visible when you take your pictures. You can avoid this by taking pictures in live mode or by hitting the terrain paint button in build mode.
5) More is better—Weird, huh? But in this case, we want to make sure judges have enough shots to fairly judge your lot. Be sure to show off each room with at least one picture. Also, please include an overhead shot of the floorplan for each level.
Ok, those are the basics! If you want to further your simatography skills, we highly recommend you visit http://simatography.webs.com for more tips and tricks and to see some excellent shots taken by professional simatographers!
Please try to keep this thread as photo free as possible and either create a story, a slide show, a separate thread, or use the stickied photo thread to post shots of your lots!
Freizha, the "Media" part of the challenge is a series of screenshots you put together showcasing your lot. Photobucket is a good site to upload your screenshots, but you can also use the Create-a-Story tool on the TS3 website. The images are not as big, but if you take good screenshots, it can still be effective. In either case, once you've uploaded your images and created a story or slideshow, post the link to that story or slideshow as your "Link to Media". Also, most entrants use the "Official Form" below to post their entries. You can edit your entry to include some of the information below that was left out. We're so so glad to have you as part of this challenge!
Here is the form to use:
OFFICIAL ENTRY (It helps to include the particular challenge, too!)
NAME: (your TS3 name)
LINK TO LOT: (link to where your lot can be found/downloaded. This can be on the Exchange or some other uploading site like mediafire. It is also not strictly necessary to link to your lot. The judging is based on your media only.)
LINK TO MEDIA: (link to the pictures/slides you've taken of your lot. Be sure your pictures show everything you want the judges to see. Too many pictures are better than not enough. Try for some close ups as well as distance shots. And overhead layout shots are always appreciated by the judges. Simmers post their slideshows on many different sites including the Exchange (Create-a-Story) and Photobucket.)
OPTIONAL CHALLENGE: (Sometimes there is an optional challenge besides the creation of the main lot. If you've entered the optional challenge, post your links to media and optional item here.)
LEVEL: (beginner, intermediate or advanced)
LOT SIZE, ADDRESS & FINAL COST: [For example: 30 x 30; 99 Sim Lane (Sunset Valley); §173,000]
LOT DESCRIPTION & DETAILS: (Here is where you tell us about what you built and your rationale in building it the way that you did.)
CONSTRUCTIVE CRITISIM: (Yes or No. If you choose "No", you will still get positive comments from the judges, but no suggestions for improvement.)
CREDIT TO SIMMERS FOR CUSTOM CONTENT USED: (If you've used any content not from the game, expansion and/or stuff packs, it's nice to give those outside creators credit. It also helps others to find the cool stuff you've used.)
Your screenshots are all so tiny! Do you reduce the size once you upload them to Photobucket? It would be easier for the judges if you left them at a larger size. :?
no i didnt reduce the size that i know off, just uploaded them in a hurry havent participated in FOREVER because of the difficulty uploading to this site, didnt want to wait n get too busy to get my entry in on time. if i have time after work ill see what i can do to try n fix it.
