Sims 3 Lucky Palms

«1
It is total rip off to pay full price for Lucky Palms all these years later, but ... I am not in great place mentally this week, so I splurged. In this IRL world that has gotten so much crazier since 2020, what is anything worth? So ... I stopped thinking about what anything is worth, and what is fair and not fair, and what might still work or not work by even next week, and I did what I wanted to do, today. And what I want to do today is play in Lucky Palms

I assume that we can garden in Lucky Palms since I see that there is a community garden. Are there any issues with heat and drought that affect gameplay for plants and people and animals and anything else? The real Las Vegas gets up to 117 degrees and that has a huge impact on so many daily activities, but this is the Sims and I am assuming that little of IRL 117 degrees applies.

I want to play rags-to-riches.

I bought Gold, but it looks like the casino is not automatically placed. Is there a lot that is the intended site for the casino? I don't really care about the casino right now, but I have bought quite a few items that cannot be applied to the large purchase later and I did not dare just buy the standard version.

Are there any micro homes on the gallery that are appropriate for Lucky Palms? The only available house on the docks has a lot of wasted space. I'd like to add something micro to the empty dock lot. I cannot garden there, though, unless I maybe added pots? I am not sure what a desert farm would look like and where it should be placed.

Las Vegas has so much fake everything that I guess anything goes, but buildings with ridiculous and out-of-place themes tend to be grouped together. It would be a lot of work, but I could create a neighborhood of almost anything, I guess. Maybe a neighborhood of earthship type home would be fun. Is there anything from the future packs that could be adapted to Lucky Palms? As I am writing, I think that is what I want to do. I think I want to add some type of sci-fi hippie type farm.

I love love love Lucky Palms! The sunsets and sunrises alone are worth it. I love the community garden. I figured out where the Casino goes, but I have not earned enough money to play in it yet.

So far, I have not seen a community fridge in any of the places that they are available in Sunset Valley. Are there any community fridges in the game? I have not edited any lots yet, but I know that I will want to do that.

Has anyone added the Lucky Palms Community College?

For me, it was worth buying, even at that price, and even knowing that Sims 3 is a ticking timebomb that could implode at any time.

Moonwood Mills was my first favorite Sims 4 world, and I thought Moonlight Falls would be my first favorite Sims 3 world, but I ended out liking Sunset Valley more than Moonlight Falls. There was just too much supernatural going on. It was overwhelming.

I don't like celebrity play at all. I guess I don't like Western play in either Sims 3 or Sims 4. I do like general camping and hiking type worlds, but Hidden Springs is got some type of major celebrity theme thrown in. I don't like it as much as Outdoor Retreat. The City pack has vampires and celebrities. I'm just not in the mood for that kind of drama. On the other hand, Riverview was just too narrowly farming. The Island stuff might be what I do next, but I don't want to travel by boat right now. I chose Lucky Palms by the process of elimination.

I see now that Lucky Palms was originally discussed as being Palm Springs, but I see over time people began referring to it as Las Vegas. I know very little about Palm Springs. Las Vegas has some extremely diverse neighborhoods and I intend to break Lucky Palms up like that. Las Vegas reminds me of a giant movie studio with different sets on every corner. Las Vegas is made of plastic and foam and is so fake. But the surrounding mountains are so real and influential and lasting. I think that dichotomy appeals to me right now. The sun and the mountains are what I crave most. The rest I will figure out as I go along.

I really like the little dock area. I think I have found some houses that I can edit to fit in there.

I found what I was looking for. About 2 years ago, I heard discussion of Cryptocurrency cities planned for the Nevada desert. This combined with Biosphere 2 and EarthShip Homes inspires me to build something at the outskirts of the city.

Las Vegas has a Ferris Wheel, so we could include some of the Boardwalk venue

and a mob museum. What else from Roaring heights could we add?

Tabbi Claremont is Tabitha from the TV series Bewitched. This could be a fun sim to play.

After a couple days of playing in Lucky Palms, I just keep liking it more and more instead of getting bored. I love how adaptable it is to adding any type of gameplay that I can imagine. Awhile back, I bought the Castle Exterior Kit and when the Castle Interior Kit went on sale today, so I bought that too. I can even place a castle in Lucky Palms, because NOTHING is out of place as long as I use a dash of creativity. I am not going to add everything that I CAN add, but it is just nice to know that I have so many CHOICES.

Does it snow in Lucky Palms in the winter? It definitely hails in early summer! Wow! I am just entering fall. I hurriedly finished the fishing skill worried that the water was about to ice over, but maybe that was unnecessary.

You can have any weather you want in whatever town you want. If you want it to snow in Lucky Palms just leave it enabled in options and when winter comes it will snow.

Do different worlds have different climates and weather?

In early fall, the orange ground is white in the morning. I guess that is frost? I was not expecting that.

Worlds have whatever weather and climate you set in options. So if you leave everything at default settings for every world you play in, than the weather will be the same regardless if it's a desert world or a tropical one.

If you want to have accurate weather for the world you're playing in you'll have to tweak the settings yourself.

And yes that is frost. Don't be surprised when you see foggy windows, breath clouds, and snow in the desert.

Thanks so much! Deserts do get surprisingly cold at night because of the lack of cloud cover to hold in any warmth and at higher elevations, but frost on the first morning of fall did not seem appropriate. I will go into settings. I assumed that Sims 3 climates were tweaked like the Sims 4 worlds.

@Katofhyrule12 , I wish that Sims 3 climates were tweaked for different worlds like in Sims 4, but they are not! You can use Options to tweak them a little (you can disable certain seasons and certain types of weather), or use the NRAAS Tempest mod to tune them more precisely.

Thanks so much for the link! I think I am going to skip it for now, but I am glad that it exists and I might change my mind. Part of the reason that I bought Lucky Palms was for a weather change. Lucky Palms is expensive! It is good for people to know that they will not be getting sunny weather if they buy this world! I don't regret buying the world. I like it for other reasons. But this is a bit of a disappointment.

Looking at the date of my first post and my purchase history, it has been about 11 days since I bought Lucky Palms. I am loving it more and more instead of regretting my purchase. It did not deliver the sunny weather that I was seeking, but it delivered in ways that I did not expect.

The flat world has tons of space to lay down tons of downloaded lots. And it is easy to move the already installed lots to another spot in the world. I have built so many themed micro-neighborhoods! I don't just love my sim and her house. I love her whole world! And she seems to love it, too.

I have so much less lag in this world than the other worlds! I think it is the lack of trees. I decided to play in Moonlight Falls and Sunset Valley and each only lasted about 15 minutes before I gave up and went back to Lucky Palms.

I took inspiration from some RL homes in areas of Palm Springs, and Vegas, and mixed them together.
Because just like on one side of Lucky Palms is the fancy modern architect dude houses, but apparently they're like the 50's/60s .. but anyway, on the other side of Lucky Palms is older type houses that are trying to be ... one is like a converted old theatre, another is an old ... diner or gas station, something like that. Anyway, so ghost-town, saloon, old Western ... as well as maybe what you'd see in the Mad Men episodes that were in California with Don's second wife, can't remember her character name, anyway ...
So. I like my sims there to start in the little starter house next to the military base, because the military career pays well and has shifts every day straight away, and the house is next door to the base, and the sims, if they leave before the carpool arrives, just run across the road to it. I got my sim to marry in the older lady ... the one who is modelled off of Ginger from Gilligan's Island .. I haven't played it for over a year and I forget her name - anyway! She's got a bit of money, and she's nearly elder and childless so he married her into the house and knocked her up before she couldn't. Then I liked my sims to stay there for a while and try to challenge myself in converting the shack into something a bit fancy.
So the front half of the house became an old Western style cabin looking thing, but it became three or four storeys with a huge roof, and the back half became like rustic stucco, square box maybe industrial but ... something! I don't know what to call it.
Watch out for that house though because whoever originally made it did so on a 'flat' ground, joining it up in the middle, uneven. So when building the upper floors and whatever, it gets problems aligning and placing windows and things. So you have to stand back, knock it all down, flatten the ground properly and then re-build it, or replace the lower level with a foundation. Once they've got some money, plenty of.

I'll see if I can put some pictures here simply. If its too much mucking around I won't worry, I have an assignment on Ancient Rome to get on with and I'm procrastinating! I really don't like the question in it.

Maybe later I'll post something about the family.

As their family grew and accumulated wealth, they bought a spare lot on the other side of town, and built a really fancy house, near the police station where their dream job was. The style of that one was from some Palm Springs photos too, a mixture. Anyway, so that's some info and ideas for it for you.

The pictures show up fine, and they are GREAT!

I am still playing in Lucky Palms. I have no desire to play the other worlds. When I want to do something not available to do in Lucky Palms, I do it in Sims 4.

    @Katofhyrule12 thanks :)
I can see on my other computer the pics did show up. I wonder why it does that on this PC.
As I mention on my site, the hedges around the front are recoloured to look old military material. They're from into the future, pretty sure, the only one's able to be recoloured. The inner hedges are framing some stairs going into the basement, which has another 3 storeys down, with all their cars, weird skill-building machines and a large study.
My female sim has clothes styled off of SITC the movie's scene in the desert. Not exactly the same but similar. And the male sim, who is Eduardo Frio saved from Sunset Valley, is styled off of Marius from ... the Latin teacher guy off of You-tube ... Mario Scorpio.

    I'll find him ...

This is my male sim, Eduardo Frio. He's dressed like Mario Scorpio from the Latin lessons. Back in Sunset Valley I felt sorry for him and moved him in with Sonja, the blonde lady on the right, one of my own CAS sims, who is wearing grunge camo that reminds me a little bit of the SITC clothing in their desert scene. Its just a 70's, 80's, 90s stuff pack outfit CaS'd up. They never ended up being romantic because their personalities aren't right. So here in Lucky Palms they are roommates. Next to Sonja is Kitty Price, whom Eduardo married into the house and had babies with.
    Screenshot-997.jpg

This is Sonja getting married to .. the Barry Manilow lookalike ... Roy someone. I have to change his name though, because that's my brother's name, its creepy. Her dress is inspired by the desert outfit that Kerry Bradshaw wore in the desert, or was it Samantha.
    Screenshot-929.jpg

    and here

    Screenshot-944.jpg

you wouldn't think so but the guests did all crowd around in that small area in the front yard, just fine.

And here is Sonja in another other outfit inspired by SITC movie's desert scene. I think Miranda wore the one like this, she's on holiday in the tombs in this photo.
    Screenshot-1112.jpg

and here is Sonja in the outfit similar to the one Charmaine wore

    Screenshot-1064.jpg

Not all exactly like those outfits, but inspired by and similar.

Oh and the Latin teacher's name is Scorpio Martianus. In one of his lessons he wears a red t-shirt and black hat like Eduardo. I don't know which one. It would take a long time to sift through all of them to relocate it. My Latin teacher thought he was a good likeness though.

Maybe on the weekend I might upload more about them and my play in Lucky P.
If you google 'suburban houses in Palm Springs', the images are exactly like LP's houses. Some are a bit different, having some flair of their own, you could take from those, still blending with the world.

Then 'ghost town america' turns up some cool images of buildings in their main street similar to the Lucky Palms poor side, except the ghost towns are all brown, Lucky's are painted. "desert shacks america" turns up some similar houses but more rickety, wooden and cabin-like. They're on-theme and can be elaborated on.

    until another day ...

@DivinylsFan thanks for sharing! I do not have things set up to post picture. I like to look at the pictures that other people post.

I love the diversity of neighborhoods in Lucky Palms. There is a place for every type of sim to live. And so much room to expand my favorite neighborhoods.

I spent a couple days playing Sims 4, but I am back in Lucky Palms.

I though I would never find a place in the desert for the Mill and the Last Amore venue. I put them both in one of the crater areas since that is the area lowest to the water table. I am going to alter them a bit to look more like a colonial Spanish Fort that was later converted into a silly Las Vegas wedding spot. I love the church in the middle of the lot and the aged paint. The crater is not right on the road, but the area has beds and everything a sim needs to stay a while, and I will add more food options. That whole side of the road is focused on altered lots.

This mod allowed me to add a stove to the Varg's Tavern and I created a Supernatural neighborhood around it.
    https://modthesims.info/download.php?t=450059
I moved the elixir shop next door. And put the Grim's Ghastly Manor close by. Then added a little 10x10 witchy cottage too.

I just saw this Sons of Anarchy lot. I want to see if I can find all the pieces and add this a little farther down the road from the Supernatural neighborhood near the junkyard that I added.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmcOHtHXKDI

I placed the Boardwalk and the Olympian Gym next to the arena.

Anything and everything goes in Lucky Palms as long as it goes in the right neighborhood.

    Yes indeedy.

Including snow. Think Colorado, Utah, parts of the Mediterranean and the Middle East. Although they have some barren, desert-like landscapes they do get snow.

I like the old Spanish fort idea. There's loads of those to find in pictures for inspiration.
