Open for business update/Blast from the past content update

Watching too many videos of old sims games takes you down a long, nostalgic road for things we once had in our games that the sims 4 quite shamefully lack while being in its seventh or so year of existing.

The fact we only just got infants is painful---BUT! I digress.

-Content, the past, old sims series, items and things we had back in the day our games don't have now, that is the point of this post and frankly I'm praying someone on the team sees this and throws another curve ball to surprise us in the best way, or some of us because no everyone wants to look to the past and thats cool.
---

Anyway, Sims 2-, Sims 1 you can add in the comments because sadly I was too young to play that series and have no idea of the lore/catalog but would love to see items/families/events from that make a comeback,-Sims 2 gave us many fantastic ways to play our games and if it'd had Story Progression, we'd have been golden, but here we are and so here's a list of content I'd like to see come back either through kits/packs or hopefully through a big update.

Open for Business, miss, miss, MISS the option to run business from home with Florence where she got to meet people and make flower bunches, arrange everything to how she liked and still have time to run the house between that, plus the fact you could run your own toy store and build in the back while staff pestered grown ups to buy their little ones all the expensive handmade presents even though you barely paid anything to get the stuff to make them!

Also am I wrong but could you run a restaurant? properly, I mean, waiters, chefs and all, unlike sims 3 and sims 4 with dine out (That barely works).

And excuse the poor categorizing, working with ADHD and Autism here so bear with.

Not an item but things missing: burglars, burglar alarms you had to put BY EVERY SINGLE DOOR ELSE YOU RAN THE RISK OF LOSING EVERYTHING.

Genies, match maker, social bunny, that weird doctor when you had a breakdown, flour sack baby, imaginary friend, animal control, proper police, mime, mystery man (No idea who he is but I wanna know! BECAUSE MYSTERY!), all the Sims 1 and 2s NPC's we lost to the ages.
---

I'm writing from a list for ease here because trying to remember every item we don't have is going to make my plumbob just explode:

Thinking Cap, Love Tub, Genuine Buck's Famous Counterfeiting Machine, old style telephone, telephone booth, toy ovens and lemonade stands for making a quick buck, sewing machines, ant farms, more exercise stuff, the dance sphere, That thing the Beakers use to shock Nervous in all the trailers.

I am missing so much which is where you and the comments come in, there is so much missing and with the team bringing back old families why should we miss out on reliving the glory days of business from home or our sims spinning themselves sick!?

Not everything will come back and thats obviously fine, but a couple pieces (Like burglars who decide to break into Vlads house and get locked in the basement for snacking on) would be nice

Catch you later, Simmers

Would've posted this thread in the feedback section however it feels sort of dead, not to be rude, here just seems to have more general traffic from other simmers and the dev team

I would love to see an option for all jobs where you can select classic or modern options. Classic mode for careers would remove all daily requirements for all jobs and raises would be based off of performance and skill.

Modern would put leave it like it is now. Classic would be The Sims 3. I miss the old feel again.

Pool tables. Seriously. What rooftop do I have to shout this from to be heard?

I had another idea for this as well. We should get some of the older careers back. I was thinking Journalism, Music (Rock Branch, Symphonic Branch), Professional Sports, Stylist, Architectural Designer, Firefighter, Rework Film to be a actor or director, Daycare, Acrobat, Magician, Singer, Sports Agent, Art Appraiser, Lifeguard, Astronomer, Bookstore Clerk, Mausoleum Clerk, Receptionist, Spa Specialist, Alchemist, Bot Builder, Inventor, Scuba diver, and Sculptor.

Oooo i like that, so slacker sims with barely any ability wouldn't get higher in their job level until they actually did something

Didn't think about careers to be honest, should've, forgot how many good ones they had and don't leave out pet careers!

Will the sims 4 horse ranch have horseback riding for people who don’t own horses?

Forgot to mention the love bed we get as decoration in the basement pack! And the easy bake oven for kids and lemonade stand.

Proper slides, not just for toddlers.
    Diving boards.
Did I mention the sewing machine from freeplay?

I know they’re not item items but imaginary friend dolls which could later on be updated to become NPCs.

    Dog houses.
Smaller pets which in older games were basically objects.
    Bar bell weight machines.
Rocking horses for toddlers and maybe kids.

Active daycare career and maybe make the baby sitter career optionally active for teens.

More throwback families on the gallery.

Bigger jingle gyms like the ones simmers had when they were little that were always way too high and nobody worried about falling apart but looking back now you realise the danger and maybe sim parents could panic if they have the paranoid trait or their kid is knew to climbing

Doubt it but you never know, it would make sense especially for families to take their little ones horse back riding for the day. Or teens to freak each other out by seeing who can stay on longest. Maybe have a petting zoo lot for the farm animals and they have a little area for sims to try horseback riding, be hilarious if they have the horse fear the gurus mentioned and just passed out from the idea of riding a horse

Please bring back Ticket Machine, the sims should pay to visit a lot.

Can’t remember the ticket machine but it sounds good for venues and spots like the lounge. Could pretend you’ve paid for parking or joke you’ve parked your horse outside if they’re a mode of transport after the pack release

Updated Burglars who can actually rummage through your dressers/drawers/cupboards, if they're ambitions or have a high mischief/handiness skill they could bypass alarms/locked doors meaning your last resort would be a brave sim okay with sleeping nearby or camping at the main door (Maybe paranoid sims or sims who've been ransacked more than once and have an obvious bad relationship with the thief), or even getting a dog or two (Or cat, which in their own way could alert everyone or scratch up the intruder).

refresh the klepto trait so you can become a burglar or just steal bits and pieces you like from locals!

Give escaped burglars the ability to mock you with letters/photos of their loot sent via the mail, or even return items if the family have young children or are low money wise.

If your household has one or more moody teens they themselves can act as an alarm, either screaming the place down and scaring the sim off, waking up the parents or being just so angry they pull a broom out of their pocket and chase the burglar outside.

Like other sims series you can arrest them if your sim is a cop, or influence the courts to make their lives hell inside prison should you take the lawyer route.

Active burglar career (Obviously), forcing you to make your own decisions as to whether or not to steal from your friends and neighbors.

The chance for elderly sims to die of fright from an intruder (Leading them to run or put their hands up like "I didn't do that" or hit them with a cane)

Child sims being able to set traps Home Alone style! (With less pain)

Finally...Toddler sims leaving lego bricks on the floor for the thieves to step on, scream and wake the whole house.

    Pet sitter career!

Easier than looking after kids and much nicer if your sim is anti social. Plop food bowls down, keep the toy box nearby and stock up on litter trays!

Perfect if you wanna make a little money for the weekend or the parents won’t let you own a pet.

Either watch them at home or go hang at the owners for a few hours. Free food for everyone.

Sims get a boost from pups or kittens, panic if the household has a pregnant animal in labour, and depending on traits, will either fear for their job or the pet if they get sick and have to run to the vet.

Obvious neglect will lead to immediate action from the owners and result in being fired and bad mouthed to other sims, you’ll either have to work from the ground up or be flat out denied work until a certain point.

    Willy Wonka/ candy maker career

This merges science and the culinary skills, also handiness if you wanna upgrade the machines and add more candy options.

Similar to the ice cream options, you can make mind blowing sweets to amaze and stun your customers, take requests and even lead some sims to…you know.

Change their moods, influence decisions and steal hearts with delicious treats that everyone can enjoy.

Also make pet treats because every good doggo or catto deserves some

    Boarding school options!

Whether you're a military kid following their parents career (Would be great for the Grunt family), badly behaved teen or maybe a rich socialites child who they need space from.

Offers a reform program for runaways in the form of mental health or lowkey hard work to straighten them out a bit, however should they be completely in the red regarding all their growing manner traits they run a high risk of being kicked out and sent straight back home (Maybe they'll even refund the deposit!), leading to failed career interviews and hard to reach promotion goals unless they go back to school as an adult to repair their grades.

Golden child sims tend to fair better as they'll become teachers pet and snitch on trouble makers, leading to a good lot of enemies and night time pranks to keep them up at night. constantly sends letters home and if things get too much they can request their parents come collect them leading to a pop up option.

Military is just that- work all day, camp all night, play tough and get tougher! Quit halfway through or make it to the top and go into police/military/physical career paths ready and able to take on the world! Just don't overdo it else your sim might break something and come home in a body cast.

High and Mighty use money to get their way, lie, cheat, steal, prank, be the bully and show the world your sim is a force to be messed with! Maybe even use their parent to flirt with the main sim in charge and make life a little more cosy.

Support pets, simple and sweet as it sounds, adopt a class hamster, choose a name for the new reform wing puppy, use workshop to build a climbing frame for the military mascot cat, pets make everything better
