I have quite a few real life celebrities and fictional TV characters in my game as background sims. My main family is just a regular family I started in CAS with mom and dad as single sims who hooked up. They're not really based on anyone. Just my imagination.
Right now, I’m playing a rotation of sims, with premade occults and a few original characters the main story drivers. I never play any version of myself. I do have some fictional characters in my game, but no real life celebrities. In past games, the sims I played were all original characters.
A mix of characters from other videogames, premade sims and my own sims. My main sims are a detective and a teacher, both of which at some point were childhood dreamjobs of mine.
Definitely not myself, I have no interest in that. I actually live my life in RL, I don't need or want to recreate that in a video game.
I play with many, many human characters 95% in several saves, that aren't created to represent anybody I know or anybody who is famous, they are just sims I D/L'd or created myself that I liked the look of.
The other 5% of my characters are somewhat occult-ish, but still very much look like a human you'd see in RL unless they are doing their occulty things and have a dark form of some kind.
I vaguely remember creating a simself in Sims 2 for some challenge or another, but otherwise, I play with completely made up sims. Occasionally, I may use fictional characters, like Brianna and her husband from Outlander, because I'm curious - but generally no real people, ever in my game.
I play many premades (and I also usually make them "my own versions" because I often change their lives in different ways and for some of them I also change their names).
Often I also find nice sims among the random generated townies or NPC sims, and I start playing some of them too. For example the sim in my current profile picture is one of those random townies/NPC, that became one of my favorite sims 😊
I also play my own created sims, but I never play as myself or anyone I know IRL; My own created sims are characters that I'm creating just using my imagination.
I play also sims that I have downloaded from the Gallery.
Sometimes I give to my played sims names from celebrities or fictional characters (from movies, TV-series or books) but usually it's only the name and otherwise they don't look like the person

Random fictional sims that have nothing to do with me or any other reference. I make them, throw them into the world and see what they do. My aim is to play all of the packs.
Quietly I have been building up quite a few sims although I only play a household of 3 sisters and a cat currently in Komorebi, and a household of a mom, her son and a separate one with his half sister currently around San Myshuno. They are the only ones with green lights.
But I have about 20 original sims in total dotted around my game and I enjoy them socialising with a lot of the townies and EA premade sims. I have played as Penny Pizazz and Travis Scott when they moved in with my sims etc but I wouldn’t just play as a townie otherwise.
I play as a few different Sims (rotational style I guess). My starting point will usually be the name I choose, and that's often randomly generated anyway. I have been gradually building families around the Sims I first started. It's good to see wobbly toddlers eventually grow up into gangly, awkward teenagers.
I almost always play Sims my daughter and I have created. Right now we're playing a game in which all the Sims come from our Gallery; no premades at all.
Z made very good versions of our Simfamily, and they're in our game as "supporting actors." Of course, their surname is Sims. What else would it be, right? We run across the Sims family frequently, which is fun, but we don't play them. One of them, based on my youngest brother, just won the lottery, so we're tempted to help him deal with his newfound fortune.
The other Sims in our Gallery are almost all the products of our imagination. There are a few based on fictional characters, and a few real people, not famous ones, whose stories we've run across and who have appealed to us.
I have myself and hubby in the game but don't play as them (enjoy seeing them in the world). I tend to make a variety of sims based on ideas that I have, but also include some from my favorite shows, games etc. For example, the Witcher cast/family is in Windenburg on the isolated island with a few other families I've made. When supernatural came out I downloaded the Mystery Inc Scooby Doo gang to solve all the ghost cases.

I play premades and other random sims. I love occults but don't play them enough. My simself isn't for playing. She's placed in the world and marked as immortal. I have romance options turned off for her as well via MCCC.
I'm a family player, but I confess I start over a lot. My first gen is always my simself (which seems to be rare here, hmm) and her husband who sometimes is my favorite actor and sometimes just a random sim I made in CAS and liked the looks of. I used to play my simself and my RL husband in Sims 2, but since he's passed that is too painful. I also don't name any children my simself has after my RL children. I couldn't bear to watch them age and die.
I have never played premades in the Sims 4, but I don't delete them either. I do give them makeovers. I will sometimes add sims from my library or downloaded from the gallery if my gender ratios start to get too uneven. I recently added Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey Jr and Chris Hemsworth to a cruddy "apartment" building in Del Sol Valley, because it amused me and I needed more YA males.
I've been playing the Sims franchise since the beginning, in 2000. Because of this, many of the premades from past games feel like old friends. So I recreate them for the Sims 4, and I also expand the family tree of premade S4 characters like the Goths, adding the older Goths, Crumplebottoms & Bachelors. I also have some characters of my own that I add into the mix, too.
I play with sims created by me, not premades. To me they are characters in a story but definitely not me. Mostly I start out with a single sim and at some point he or she will get a boyfriend/girlfriend and children. This single sim often has similarities with me but it is not me.
Most of my sims households end up with an occult character, just because I enjoy supernatural elements.
I play with sims mostly from book/television series.
I like having "worlds" already put into place for me to play in. I'm not very imaginative on my own, so this is a great help!
Like SJM? Like Kpop? Like Greek Mythology?

i played a simself in ts3 because of my ex-fiance. he always played a simself and we parallel played for years. i made a simself in ts4 a while back (my profile picture) but i never played as her. plus i've deleted all my old cc and downloaded new cc so if i plopped my simself into cas now i'd have to remake her. i always play original characters in ts4. i give premades makeovers but i've never played as one.

I had a plan to make a sim of myself before The Sims 4 came out, but eventually, I decided not to.

I also have simself for testing/small adventures and profile pic obviously
and few self created occults or unimportant npc where i feel like there is no maxis sim for what I need say some aliens or other
but i try to find most my sims in pool of premades cause its kinda fun to see where they fit in
