I have to say that for a time there, my one Sim kept getting 'targeted'. I mean, really. I finally had my very first death by emotion, which ended up being a two-fer, as in my Global Superstar's brother-in-law overdid it on the juice so that when Erik told a lame joke, the half Vulcan laughed himself to death. Yeah. His wife was also in attendance and finally, she became aware others were weeping uncontrollably. She ended up dying a Hysterical death, too. I tried to continue playing that save. But as it turned out Erik wasn't so capable of caring for twin toddler boys and his 'girlfriend' wasn't so into kids, in general.
I restarted that gave save, inasmuch as I rolled it back to when the twins were just infants and took things forward from there. Sadly, suddenly Erik was the one dying of Hysteria. I exited without saving the first time, trying to understand just what set him off. Turns out his older brother (the family had gathered to enjoy Winterfest together, had told him a joke. Again, I exited without saving in the hope I could prevent Aaron from telling said joke. I managed to save Erik, so I continued playing forward. Well, I'll be darned if later on (or maybe even the next gaming session) Erik arrives home from his concert and suddenly, he's crumpled in front of the steps to the front door. I stopped playing that save.
Needless to say, I started a brand new game save after that and deleted the older one. In this case, it did seem as if the game, itself, not just the packs, were out to get my Sim!
All that to say, I would much rather have this random 'danger' to help spice things up a bit. Just be careful what you wish for …
This list is missing death by flowers from Seasons. It may look like it's another way to die by old age, the death trait from it is different.
The death can be triggered by giving a death flower scented flower arrangement to an elder sim. While usually it ages up the sim who receives the gift (even vampires), elders will instead die (unless they're a vampire). These ghosts have nothing special (like with old age and overexcertion).

No. The Death Flower doesn't cause death, but rather if your Sim possesses one, it can be given to Grimmie to spare your Sim.
Many players enjoy an element of risk, and for every way that they implement a way to kill sims in game, they generally give a way to prevent/avoid it if you wish. I for one enjoy having a bit of danger for them, and the chance that I may have to think on my feet a bit and change up my story line. It helps a little bit to avoid boredom. Besides, this is a life simulation game, and death is part of life, as are accidents.
I agree. My first sim to ever go to university went to Foxbury and died of electrocution before even completing her first term! I never sent a sim to Foxbury again. (Although, I don't have University installed anymore for unrelated reasons.
City Living--my Sims tend to get a little too worked up at the festivals. Actually, my first non-intentional death (i.e. killing them off in MCCC or other mods) was due to this.

Ghosts change colour based on their emotions now. A green ghost is happy, a blue one sad, a flirty ghost pink, etc...

Death by 'Ennui'.
(That's French for boredom.)
