Further thoughts, if you are going Intel minimum Core i5 with 8GB ram and AMD or Nvidia graphics. You really want 16 GB Ram. You see a lot of laptops with 128GB SDDs these days. Avoid those! Even 256GB is small, although with an external HDD you can make it work. You want 500 GB or better, which is affordable. If you are looking at AMD then you want a Ryzen CPU, not an A Series APU. Everything else mentioned above still applies.

  Well, I won't be much help with laptops as I don't use one ATM and have no idea about important stuff like good laptop graphics (apart from Intel built in graphics still being bad). But generally for any computer more RAM and storage is better. And of course these days, especially with laptops, you will want to look at Solid State Drives as they are getting very affordable these days, so you can have fast and large.
