Question About Playing Seasons Set on Four Weeks

For those who play with Seasons set to four weeks, what do you like about it, and what don't you like about it?

Please be as specific as you can. I would really like to know what are the benefits of this setting and also, just what are the drawbacks?

I ask because I've played on one-week, and now two-weeks, but never four-weeks. Before I launch a game into this, I thought I might ask those who have or are playing it this way.

Please, and thank you, in advance!

I really like playing with the 4 weeks setting because it gives a more realistic feel: the leaves does not go from bright green to red overnight in real life. A flu does not last an entire winter either. Also I can prentend that the kids are having an actual summer break and not just yet another weekend. The only downside is that, well, it stays the same for a long time, so if you haven't seen all the seasons and tried every seasonal things already you might get bored quickly and get very impatient for the next season to arrive, though you can cheat that.

i prefer long life settings for my sims because it allows for more realism and suits my gameplay needs. i wanted to add a couple more holidays and i felt having a holiday every couple of days was too much. i also have a sizable amount of households (about 42) and i change which one i'm playing VERY frequently. a lot of my households have connected stories and having a season be 1-2 weeks makes time go by too quickly imo. sometimes the 4 week setting feels too short when i constantly jump around, as that wastes a little bit of time that slowly adds up.

drawbacks could be the length of how long each season is. if you were to stay in one singular household i could see that getting pretty dull.

Thank you for responding. I went ahead and started a brand new save with a family I favor. Eventually, it will split into other families, but I tend to play my singer Sim. When his younger sister finally marries, I'll have him move in with her so I can tend to both of them. I was a tad vexed that when I switched from 2-week seasons to 4, the holidays provided in the game were all bunched together and totally in the wrong season! In deleting them, I found while I could create a holiday that would be basically the same thing, we don't get the icon to see at a glance what holiday it is. Face/palm.

So far, since I'm in the main family household, things are going well. I'm slowly adding venues, and other families as I go along. My young singer is a Rising Star, has a record label and a level 3 Professional Singing Skill. That all happened today. :)

Again, thank you for your input.

Cool. I use the MCCC mod, so right now the teens (four of them) have the summer off. I didn't have the Child quit school. In my head he's attending Summer School. Has to raise that C grade, after all. ;)

I tend to Play 4 weeks when I have aging on Long 2 weeks when I have it on normal and one week when I have it on short. It just seems to feel more natural that way. The disadvantage of having it on long is the longer Winters mean a lot more Sims dying on your doorstep cuz they freeze to death. But I still seem to use it on my long life-span Sims

I do play on Long, which I suppose is why the 1-week per season and even the 2-week seem way too short. I shall try to keep a watch on those who approach my Sims' front porch. I've got a Rising Star in the household, which does mean Paparazzi. I've already experienced the death of a Stan in a previous save. That was horrendous enough. :open_mouth: Thanks for the heads-up. ;)

    1. I like that it simulates a slower passage of time. Especially because I play on long lifespan.
    2. I make a LOT of custom holidays, which would make them happen way too often if the seasons were shorter. This way I have more days to squeeze in holidays without feeling like every day is a holiday.
    3. It allows me time to rotate to other families if I want to, to celebrate certain holidays. For example, my Christmas break can last a week. I'll play family A for 2 days, family B for 2 days, etc. before the arrival of Christmas Day.

There's no downsides that I can think of.

I actually have a mod that makes it only 3 weeks, which I find the most enjoyable. It's by littlemssam. But 4 weeks is nice too, especially when you're playing on long.

No, I didn't know that. Where?

Is that on MTS? Or a twitter feed?

I play rotationally, and without the access to set custom life stage lengths, I play a few rounds with No Aging, and then allow it after so they can age up. So I have plenty of time with the 4 season weeks. For me I didn't like how close together all my holidays were on 2 week seasons.

One thing I do not like for seasons calendar is, birthdays do not fall on the day, in the season of birth.
If my child is born on the 2nd of Autumn in a 2 week cycle on normal lifespan for example, their birthday is not the 2nd of autumn next year on the calendar, it is 13 days later, on 3rd of Winter.

@GalacticGal - Littlemssam is a sims blog on tumblr -- her blog address is littlemssam.tumblr.com. The tumblr blog theme/layout is pretty well organized, including a page with a spreadsheet sortable by most recently updates & alphabetically, so it's really easy find a specific mod quickly & (no pun intended) simply. :)

I only use the 28 day seasons. It just feels more natural, but if I were to play shorter lifespans, maybe that would make a difference. I play on a modified normal - about double the normal days per stage. 28 days would be too short a time for me on Long!

It gives us more time which each season, making it feel like time is slowly passing in the game. Just hate some of the weather that comes with in some worlds as it can be difficult if your sims is new and poor but the challenge also helps add to the game play and just need to keep an eye on sims (my sim the other day kept wanting to play basket ball in the cold weather and got a message said she was starting to freeze to day, so I had to cancel her actions quick, have her switch to her winter wear and go home).

Has anyone shut off the rain? I swear it rains practically all of the time in my game! I love rain, but enough sometimes is too much. :open_mouth:

I use the weather machine if I get tired of the rain. Playing 28 day seasons is just right for me as I can go through a week or 2 easily in real-time hours of playing.

I have my sims aging off so they're immortal, and weeks wise 2week schedule but am thinking of changing it to 4, to have longer seasons :3 I just dont see point in generational play yet because theres not as much to do, unlike sims 3 that was fun to make lots of generations!

I need to purchase one of those for my Sims again. Had one once, but never got to use it. That game save is long gone …
