With a certain cutting machine (it's custom content at MTS) in his inventory, he was able to cut gemstones to whatever shape was required so that he could get maximum value for the gemstone in question. As he stood in front of the cake...holding his son's baby daughter, the daughter of the heir, his mind slipped back to when he held his son for the very first time. After all, Haruo remembered when River had taken care of Braden's feeding needs and the independence that Braden had shown as he'd gotten older. It just ultimately made Haruo feel very old. ...and he wondered just what life held in store for himself and River now...after all, his son was grown and a man. Alanna ate cake after her youngest aged up to child. I'm sure Haruo was getting tired of all the kids moving back in and out of the house. Time to pull up your bootstraps, kids and adult yourselves. You're now grown up and can't rely on the heir's money in order to make your way in life. You gotta do it yourself. Shikata ga nai, eh? Kunio promptly freaked out after Alanna went into labour. Well, good heavens, man, are you a man or a mouse? Straighten up that spine and get your rear-end to the hospital. Alanna had another son. Braden got leave from the RCN to stay at home to take care of his toddler and teach her how to walk, talk and poop in the can. And Alanna also spent time teaching her toddler how to do the same. Though, of course, Tatsuyoshi was very wary about personal displays of affection while in the house. He wanted to keep breathing, after all...and well...ticking off his fiancee's father would not be the best way to keep breathing after-all. Most fathers when they see their daughter and her significant other (if not married) together; there'd better be daylight visible between the two of them or the fathers' eyelids start twitching and their trigger finger starts convulsing of their own accord (probably wise to not have a firearm within reach of ol' Daddy at that particular moment). Let's just say that Tatsuyoshi was feeling rather nervous...OK...nervous was putting it lightly. He was scared poop-less. His fiancee's father was looking at him with an expression that an eagle uses on a rabbit or a goat...that his fiancee's father was a predator and that Tatsuyoshi was the prey. Being prey was not such a good situation and well, Tatsuyoshi knew that he was in a precarious spot. "uh...Brianna...um...your Dad..."
"What about my dad...?
"He's in the room..."
Haruo cleared his throat, meaningfully, narrowing his eyes. Tatsuyoshi's voice went up a few octaves. "Oh...poo"...he said as Haruo strode towards them. "Tatsuyoshi...you have designs on my daughter?" Haruo asked, giving him the third-degree glare. "Exactly when was I going to hear about this?" "I...I...I...um..."
"Normally the proper procedure before proposing to my daughter is to ask for her hand in marriage..." Haruo said dourly. Tatsuyoshi realized that he had majorly carked up. Respect for one's elders involved realizing that the fact that any woman that you were interested in, her father had to be considered as far as permission was concerned. Since Braden was looking after his father and his grandfather, he would inherit everything as heir. Everyone else had to make their own way. He had been kind enough to let Tatsuyoshi and Brianna stay with them, but eventually they would have to make their own way in life. But right now...he had this sinking feeling that he was going to get tested...and that test could potentially be painful.

Weddings are like herding cats. A lot of people milling around, wondering what's going on and no-one really knows what they're supposed to be doing other than the bride and groom. While the bride and groom are on display being the center of attention; everyone else is just there being "present and accounted for". Do you cheer, do you sit down in the nearest chair or wait for the people responsible for assigning you a seat to tell you where to sit? Who knows, the only wedding that the Watcher has ever been to has been his own and it wasn't a big "formal" affair in a church. It was in the backyard of a friend's house and we had a barbecue at the end of it. It was small for what was considered a wedding and well...the Watcher and Mrs. Watcher are still together eighteen years later. It was certainly a big affair. The whole family was there to see it, including the Steels who had moved to Legacy Island, lock stock and barrel from Sunset Valley because Susan wanted to be close to her biological off-spring - She and Yasunobu decided that they wouldn't have children since he was getting up there in age when they had gotten married. Evidently Blair and Chris had been popping out kids. In the midst of all that confusion; Brianna and Tatsuyoshi were completely oblivious, eyes only for each other. The little wedding gazebo could barely hold all of them. The Watcher was suprised it didn't collapse (but yay for Sims physics). Naturally it wasn't big enough to hold them all, so there was plenty of people still wandering around. The wedding was a simple exchange of vows and promises to be faithful (Haruo would see to it that Tatsuyoshi was faithful to his baby girl) and the two of them blissfully gazed into each other's eyes. ...and time stood still for both Brianna and Tatsuyoshi as they kissed, completely unaware of the cheers behind them. Ah, love in its splendour. ...and then they blissfully stared at each other some more... It took someone clearing their throats for their minds to come back to earth. Yup there was still the reception to attend to and well, that was before they could go upstairs, abandon their guests and go make blissful, marital woohoo without the everpresent wrath of Brianna's dad, which had prevented Tatsuyoshi from making any sort of pre-marital move on Brianna. Sort of an ever-present Sim Fu...birth control system. Let's just say that's a kind of a downer. Tatsuyoshi and Brianna came in from the wedding venue back to the house to cut their wedding cake. Brianna made the first cut in the cake to the cheers and applause of those assembled. Brianna was the last of the Chikamori siblings to find someone and get married, but it seemed as though she got the best wedding...as most of the other's weddings were usually a hurried affair, but Braden didn't mind. He was too focused on his own Greta to really care that all that they had was a simple outdoor wedding with none of the trimmings of what Brianna got...and he was happy for his little sister. Chris got himself in the background of the shot of the wedding couple just to let everyone know that he was at the wedding...what you couldn't be bothered to dress up for the occasion? As the bride, Brianna customarily got the first slice of wedding cake. And with the whole Chikamori-French-Steel family assembled it was a LARGE affair. Luckily they had a big house. ...but eventually the wedding wound down and everyone headed back to their own places. And well, Brianna and Tatsuyoshi were left to their own devices. ...and Haruo and River slept content in the knowledge that their last child had "flown the nest"...and well...it was now their children's story to continue their legacy. ...and thus the hard work that Haruo and River had put into their family's fortunes and legacy would continue.

A black BMW coupe rolled down the road from the Chikamori house. This wasn't exactly what the driver wanted to drive. For this driver the only thing that would be a proper vehicle to propel at breakneck speed down the roads of Legacy Island causing the islanders to scurry out of the way in fear of their lives; was THE BEAST. He certainly was not a friendly kind of guy and inappropriateness was his calling card. You could even say that he was mean-spirited. But it was well known that Kaneoshi Chikamori was the black-sheep of the family. He was what was generally typified as a bosozoku 暴走族, a Japanese tough-guy, the crowd that dressed in leathers and generally rode bikes. He had, in Japan, ridden on what was a Suzuki, but now that he was in North America, he wanted a Harley Davidson or something similar. After-all, you just couldn't get the intimidation factor that a Harley or a Beast road-bike had. Especially the Beast since it had the chopperbike look. The first place that Kaneoshi went to was the diner. After all he was hungry. He also had a wish to become a world class 5-star chef but he would have to work his way up. The working his way up thing was debatable at least to Kaneoshi.
Watcher: "Yeah...you gotta. Don't give me that look, Flarkin' deal with it...or I zap you, understand?" Watcher: "Yeah...I will, bub... don't give me that look. And don't think you're so tough, buddy. You think you can call down lightning? Just watch me! How boutchu go read a book or somethin'?" Meanwhile, Haruo was busy playing with plants. When Kaneoshi came home, he started reading his cooking skill book like a good little sim. Lucky for him. The Watcher was about two seconds from pulverizing him with a meteor. NO COMPLAINTS...YOU PEON!
Karina was hungry so she ended up polishing off her plate of egg rolls. ...and well, yet another member of the family, Tania, aged up to child. ...and because she was not one of the heir's children, got promptly moved out with her parents. Guess she wasn't too happy about that. Deal, Tania, you'll get to see your cousin in school. Unless Katrina ends up cutting school or not doing her homework like she's supposed to and ends up getting punished by having to go to MILITARY SCHOOL. Watcher emits a rather evil burst of laughter. Tania stared at her cake in unrestrained dejection. She'd enjoyed having her cousin around to play with, about as much as a child could play with a toddler. Karina was usually busy with homework but she had spent time playing with her cousin and making sure that she was always kept happy...and then realizing that from now on, the only time that she'd be able to play with her cousin was on selected play-dates and at school. It was rather disheartening. Kaneoshi being mean-spirited tended to laugh at birthday parties. "HA HA...you're so OLD now..." Makes the Watcher want to drop a meteor on him, but unlike Jared Frio...he's a family member. Can't do that...must relieve itchy trigger finger some other way. Ah...dear dear River...feeling her impending age...all her children have flown the coop...except for the heir and his sister (who had just gotten married). "Mom, you're not old...you're still beautiful..and Dad loves you so much..." Brianna stated to her mom, in between bites of chicken teppanyaki.
"Thank you dear, but the stilladjective doesn't help matters much..." River replied feeling a few more aches and pains where there weren't any before. Was it early onset-arthritis? Kaneoshi had work so he headed down early to the concession vendor's booth at the local athletic park to grab a bite to eat and then sat down and read his cooking skill book before work. Someone had been spreading false rumors about River...and so River went down to the local judicial courts and sued the pants off the person who started the rumors. To the tune of §8M in compensation. Thank you very much...any sim starting rumors is going to get financially destroyed. Haruo took his Lamborghini Aventador and headed down to the local Hogan's diner to grab a bite to eat. Hogan's Diner must be like our McDonald's. There's ones popping up all over the cotton-pickin' place. ...and then once he was done...Haruo went to the park and played guitar for a while. What is it with you? Haruo, your wife is feeling rather down in the dumps and you're out there on your own playing guitar. Why the hell aren't you home comforting her. Use your brain... ...or something...(oh wait...on the other hand, it's a T-site...sorry...forget I said that.
Always "River McIrish" ...and maybe some Bebe Hart. ~innocent expression~
Well, Haruo did a great job of "comforting"...NOT. He had a wish to catch a deathfish...and well...that wish was spent from midnight till five in the morning trying to catch one of those things. Great Grandpa Yasunobu took his wife and his great-grand-daughter out to Hogan's for dinner. Lots of calories, lots of fat...but hey. Karina's young enough, she can work it off and well...it's not like Yasunobu was going to die anytime soon of a heart-attack (Not gonna let that happen). Haruo went over to the elixir shop and dropped off a few more gemstones for consignment. ...and had a bit of a disagreement with the elevator. ...after which he headed over to harvest and water the plants. He headed over to check out the consignment shop where he dropped off a few items. Hopefully they would sell well. Because the interior of the house was giving so much problem to Haruo and his family, they moved out, temporarily while a new house was built. Hopefully this one would give the Chikamoris more happiness for many generations to come. ...or until the Watcher gets bored of living in this house. New house; next week? Maybe?

The Chikamori family, it appeared, was settling into Legacy Island very nicely. Haruo decided that it was necessary to have homegrown honey so well, the fact that the new house had bee-hives was an added plus. That way the family could have fresh honey every morning with their pancakes or whatever. Of course bee keeping meant wearing protective clothing to protect against bee-stings. Being stung by bees was not considered a highlight of the day by any means, so it well behooved any sim to take proper precautions in order to make sure that they remained intact. River made breakfast that morning. She had mastered her cooking skill so her cooking was on par with her husband's cooking skills. And of course, her breakfasts were absolutely delicious. The house and its surrounding property was well maintained and the family graveyard was just across the field so even the deceased could have their own space close by. When River was done making breakfast, ensuring that the whole family had a full serving of breakfast leftovers whicch would be consumed gratefully, laundry awaited. It wasn't a favorite task of River's but well, the family went through clothes and it had to be done. ...and then it was time to pay the bills and collect the mail that showed up in the mailbox. It was certainly interesting to have to sort out between junk mail and bills and well most of it got pitched in the recyling. It was roughly about that time, when River was pitching a unsolicited love-letter into the trash where it belonged that agonzied screaming came from the backyard. You see there is a routine...smoke the box, retrieve the honey, smoke the box, feed the bees, smoke the box, clean the hive...any deviation from this will get you stung. Haruo didn't remember the routine; so Haruo got stung. C'est la vie. It's even more fun that watching "Dancing with the Stars." Maybe they should have bees on the show so the contestants get stung every time they mess up a dance move.
Brianna recently got herself a promotion to Department Head and had to go to city hall to do some requisitioning funds. Evidently there were shortfalls in the school budget that needed to be addressed and well, since Brianna was on fast-track to become Vice-Principal, she needed to be well versed in negotiating a budget review and requisition funds from the city. It was all for the benefit of the children...after all. The basketball hoop was getting a lot of use from the Chikamori family, after all, what was more fun than playing basketball on an afternoon after work duties were done. River still had to periodically sell a print though with suing the living caca out of ne'er do wells who decided to slander her good name made a heckuva killing in terms of finances. And with the fact that the Chikamoris were celebrities in their own right, most of the judges tended to side with them. Life was good. But still, River liked to sell paintings and she did so, especially to those who appreciated her artistic eye. ...and of course River always had time for her husband; who'd realized just how River was feeling and did spend time with her. After all these years, taking the spouse for granted is not the way to go, you have to keep the romance alive in order to stay together. And well, he needed to put in that effort. Of course, an abduction attempt, just as things were getting hot and heavy, was a great mood killer. And well, River made the alien understand just what a bad move that was with a right hook to the jaw. Maybe next time don't come calling at the Chikamori residence. I'm sure that alien is going to be feeling that one for a while. Well...once the alien had left, things got hot and heavy in the shower. Hey, kill two birds with one stone; get clean...get to your happy place. It's true...she whinnies like a horse. Well, she's much cuter than a horse though. Well, that's one way of taking care of the "wants to woohoo with..." wish. Whatever turns your crank, eh, Haruo?

Well, it appeared as though Susan had found herself something to do becoming a trauma surgeon in the hospital. And it was usually around 3AM that she found herself exiting the hospital into the cold brisk very early morning air. Turning on stereo, she whistled along to Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry; Be Happy" as she drove home, after all, what more could be more delightful than a song whose lyrics included the words:
"'Cause when you worry your face will frown
And that will bring everybody down
So don't worry, be happy
Of course, no troubles, no troubles at all... Later on that morning, Haruo got the bright idea to go play with bees again...this time in his underwear. He's really asking for it this time. C'mon, buddy, at least wear a cup. (oops - mentioning any parts may get me banned) toque (there...that's better). Braden on the other hand, decided to do the smart thing and cut vegetables for lunch. Nothing eventful happened on this day and everybody went to sleep happy. Haruo, the next morning, decided that he would go back outside and play with the bees. He's really asking for it this time around. Dinner; life was good. The following morning saw him deal with that big hunk of wood sitting on the sculpting wheel. ...and everything was happy...(sick of this yet?)

Happenings
Don't give me that look, Flarkin' deal with it...or I zap you, understand?"
Watcher: "Yeah...I will, bub... don't give me that look. And don't think you're so tough, buddy. You think you can call down lightning? Just watch me! How boutchu go read a book or somethin'?"
Meanwhile, Haruo was busy playing with plants.

Stuff to Do and a New Home
Maybe?

Life's Goings-On in Legacy Island

Don't Worry; Be Happy
