Log out of origin. Completely shut down your computer. Restart the computer, then log back into Origin . Then if the patch is not automatically applied, go to games library,right click sims 4 picture and click " check for updates"
I'm having the same problem, but in my case restarting, checking for update & repairing haven't worked. I'm still getting the "There was a problem while updating your game. One or more files that requires an update may be in use. If the issue persists please restart your computer and resume the update." message. Will I need to completely uninstall the game & then re-install everything?

Try uninstalling and reinstalling origin and see if that helps.

Hi Rosemow. Had a little trouble reinstalling Origin but I prevailed . And reinstalling it did the trick; game runs & from checking for a few of the new items it looks like the patch is there. Didn't do any actual playing, but it seems ok. Thanks for your help, you're the best!

The only way I've been able to fix this in the past is by completely uninstalling origin and deleting all my mods and cc. It's only started happening since I bought a Get To Work bundle with Luxury Party and Outdoor Retreat. My laptop is big enough to handle these add-ons, so I'm not really sure what the problem is

I am sorry that you have this issue. There are also other simmers test have issues when updating the game , and need to uninstall and reinstall origin .
I hope that reinstalling origin helps with your issue, and that you can download /apply the patch.
Just a quick note, I have had this happen to me twice, both times at least for me was because my windows needed to be updated, as soon as I did that, I was able to update to new patch no problems, so this might also be worth a try.
