Okay, so.
Lots of people are stating that the "real-time" aspect ruins this game, and that it should be in Sim-time.
Had the game launched in Sim-time though I would have been extremely worried, because it could have easily have replaced the PC line-up.
The fact it's in real-time, and so closely follows The Sims 4, it ends up being a tease.
From players who have played, there's ONE home lot, and 3 districts. And it pretty much uses The Sims 4 gameplay for all of this.
I can imagine the App will be filled with references to The Sims 4, and that this game will pretty much be used by EA to be an access point to The Sims, and then move them over to The Sims 4.
A lot of people are saying it's "lazy" that they are just carrying over The Sims 4, stripped it down, and reselling it. But they aren't reselling The Sims 4.
They're selling a free-entry version, that get people used to it. Then if they like it, I can guarantee that they won't keep playing that, but will move over to The Sims 4.
Freeplay failed to do that, because it was so different to The Sims 3. But this is basically a very limited version of The Sims 4, which will entice players to buy The Sims 4, and to get the full experience.
If the Sims Mobile was a completely different game, then it could be a Freeplay replacement. But there is, at least to me, a very specific reason why they decided to make it look so similar to 4, while holding back the experience.

This means either Sims 4 is not getting enough development support, the mobile version is going to be bigger than you think, or both.

Where are we going, and why am I in this hand basket?!
It's not even close to the Sims though.
If you play, you'll see. The trailers are (as they were with Freeplay) misleading. They aren't even comparable.

A whole game needs a game sized development team.

Sigh. The endless need to prove something. No, those who don't play The Sims 4 will not be inspired to by The Sims 4 series for pc. Those who like phone games and they are a very different market from either you or I, even though many float between these sort of games, they will stick with the app. Totally different market and they know it. It's a different type player and they are rarely coaxed away from their apps.
This is an app, whose content is nowhere to the scale of the PC game yet, not even designing its own assets.
Preach it!!
Agreed, I have friends like that. They hardly even use their laptop and do everything on the mobile. It's really a different world.
My grandkids are the same way. Can't pry those things out of their hands. But I don't have control or they would be in the trash for a least a month at a time.
If this is true, then why is the mobile app a threat to the PC game? Different markets.
If it is not true, then the mobile app will potentially bring more people to the PC game.
Where is the evidence that all the energy, resources, and development will dry up for the PC game? I have not seen one bit of evidence.

Two trains of thoughts on this. One, TS4 is ending seems to be haunting us all today because it sure seems like a lot of familiar stuff happening around here today. The condensing of the forums (though they are easier to navigate to make room for the new game) hello 2013 on TS3 site. And the fact they took away lead developers to go work on mobile game. Hello 2013 on TS3 site when lead developers left TS3 to work on TS4.
EA wants everything mobile and be mobile king of the world, it's in their business model. So, yeah it feels like they are plowing on in that direction. Maxis merged with Mobile two years ago...not EA but Maxis...so, yeah, seems like TS4 is winding down and if EA might (I said might) not consider a new TS5 for pc if they go full mobile on Maxis.
Depends on how you look at it.
The Sims 3 reused animations, textures, etc. but they still had a full scale animation team etc.
They said the Salt Lake City Sims team is behind this app, so it just depends on how big that team was. *shrug*

The PC game should take priority. Its the official successor of Sims 3 - 2 and 1. Yet the mobile game already has assets that we, Sims 4 players, have been asking for all along. Seems that resources and development are going into the mobile game, that are not in Sims 4.
Besides, (as we've seen with Penguin Club), companies are trying to embrace the new 'mobile' age. If the mobile game does well, its perfectly plausible that Sims 4 will be cut short or underdeveloped, and following this, that Sims 5 may be completely on the mobile, if at all.
different to TSFP cause sims will take care of themselves, unlike in TSFP where sims have to be taken care of
TSM is perma TS3
TSFP is virtual pet without the death option
TSM is not a promotion for TS4
TSM will get more popular than TS4 ever could be
Real time means you have to wait in real time for interactions to be performed. There is no fast forward button, if 'tell a joke' is labeled as 2 hours you will wait 2 real world hours before advancing to the next interaction. Unless you want to pay real world money to progress faster.
Of course it has stuff we've been asking for. They're trying to draw their fans into their mobile game by offering what they asked. With a catch of course. Now was I optimistic, I'd say they may have it developed it for pc, ported it to mobile and haven't released it for the main game just yet. But who am I kidding, it's probably just a way to try and draw their pc base in. I don't know, I'm just super salty and bitter today.

That's what these games are about- a Business to fit a market. There is a very lucrative market for micro transaction games and The Sims wants a piece of that. As big a piece as they can get. This is a newer game so why not? I find it makes sense to do it from their point of view. Not my view because I don't play them but I'm not their target market.
It's game to make them money by selling "Quicker" game play. imo
as far i've seen it
i wonder
is rotational gameplay possible ?
or is it a pure avatar game ?
i am not bothered by the real time since sims take care of themselves
it's a mobile game, mobile games are like that
i play mobile quite a lot, one gets used to real time & compartmentalizes
please look up the videos i linked in my thread
it shows how the game plays actually, not just promotional trailers
