Getting retail staff to actually work & listen to management?

Hey guys!
Just wondering if anyone else has the issue of retail staff not doing was they're assigned to do?? Even when they have a pretty decent work ethic and such... My staff just don't seem to listen and then my household literally have to do all the work which is a bit frustrating sometimes.

If anyone has any tips please let me know!!

This isn't a tip but something happened in my game a few months back where I noticed if I set an employee to 'ring up' customers this would nt be their assigned duty after awhile. I would check on them and notice it was no longer ticked. I quit playing retail after that. Months ago, and don't know if they fixed it or not. Now, I just build NPC stores etc.

Yeah I've noticed that too. I'm glad it's not just me!! It's really annoying when my employee is slacking for no reason!!

I've been trying for months to have a successful business with GTW.. You name it I've tried, hard too! Bakeries, Clothing Shops, Florist supply, Toy Stores, Furniture Stores... I cannot make any money from them. I just get irritated and end up shutting off the game after a few days at said shop and send my sim home sad and broke. The retail system just stinks in TS4, nothing like Open for Business TS2, I loved making all sorts of shops and resturants with that EP, it was really great. You'd figure EA could see how it was done and maybe copy it to an extent.. but not in TS4.

@SarahsShady that's exactly the same as me!! Then they complain i've kept them there overtime despite not doing work lol!!

@rosemow yeah i did that and had the same problems! I'm just gonna use my household next time I think! I'll check out the link, thanks :smile:

Yeah the retail employees suck. I think the issue is they have real needs which go down. I have tried putting food and beds in the store and they will sleep and eat, when given the chance. And forget about a music speaker in the store. Not only do the retail employees do nothing but dance to the music, so do the customers.

I think the dancing has too powerful of a lure, codewise, for the Sims.

I do know even when you max out all of the employees skill levels they still don't listen like the Sims in Sims 2 did.

As an aside, I love it when my retail employees don't show up to work, but then stop by the store as a customer. Has that happened to any of you yet?

You may like to send a copy of your save game to the developers. They are asking for save game files of simmers that have sims running retail shops in their game

sounds trully like a sims game ... so out of function but still kickin'

@Chimark Nope hasn't happened to me yet! My employees just stand there and smile while my household sims slave over the customers! :(

I had so many problems with employees that I now only staff retail stores with sims from my household. They aren't official employees, so I don't have to pay them and I can micromanage easily. You only really need two sims for a smaller store, but that will change as it grows (I try to grow my household with the store so that by the time it gets big, I have teens to help out) But that's just how I work around it...

Side note: I also build an addition or 2nd floor on my retail lot so that my sims can live there (that way I don't have to deal with loading screens all the time). Again, not 100% ideal, but it's an ok work-around.

@MinnieMouse I do that too :) I found giving them a 'living quarters' type thing was just easier!

To be honest I got all my sims in my households to work for me. I only trouble with percentages

OP, there is a sticky thread to submit your saved game concerning running a business, etc. to the devs to help them solve some of these problems which is by design it would seem.
