I intend on copying/pasting my question from last time that was asked within the Ask A Guru time session, yet was not answered. It received 26 likes, so I guess it's something others really wanted to know as well. To me, it goes further than just linear gameplay -- its the fact they've dismissed our feedback and did, yet again, what they wanted and not what we wanted.
Many people expressed disappointment over the increasing amount of goal based gameplay in TS4's base game, and yet, Get to Work's MAIN features were based ALL around them. I do hope we can expect to see more sandbox EPs, and no more of the goal based ones. I'm bored to death of them.
Why do you guys focus so much on goal based/linear based gameplay and what is their purpose? Is it with the intention of expanding replay value to the game? Because it really does the opposite, IMHO.
I hope you ask it again. Maybe try shortening the question a bit if possible? I noticed the attention spans during those asks sessions aren't any longer than a Tweet on Twitter.
I'm tempted to ask, "Was the Sims 4 even designed for any expansions in mind with the culling and world limitations?"
“Although the world is full of suffering, it is full also of the overcoming of it.” –Helen Keller
the main reason why toddler is being brung up so much cause it a key stage to the sims which also the main subject that pointing out that there are so many holes in the game and the code it self i mean we all see it there a empty spot between child and babys in the code them doing that one thing trigger so many bugs and hole though out the game cause there trying to work around all the life stages but it not working one tiny thing cause turn into one big problem
I don't work for EA but I suspect it takes time to change certain fundamental things about any computer game. I would be surprised if stuff like the Party Pack being released tomorrow hasn't been essentially done for months- same with Retreat and Work- same with the stuff being released this fall. EA didn't finish S4 in August last year and then say, hey let's do a Game Pack and then release Retreat two months later. I'd say the first years worth of releases was already in the bag and ready to go on the day the base game launched. Then, maybe they really were taken by surprise over the outcry of how much people disliked S4 (I think it was more than they expected) and set to work trying to fix another PR disaster like Simcity. Now, I'd think given the outcry over toddlers they'd have been added right after pools were added, EXCEPT pools were already done- they just had to separate them out from probably the Party Pack or Outdoor Retreat, lol, or something else and download them- I mean the pools, bathing suits everything was ready to go too quickly otherwise, followed by basements and ghosts which I suspect were also culled from future packs BUT toddlers, they hadn't been done at all and they require a huge undertaking that EA doesn't seem willing to do just yet or at least not entirely devote itself to doing. That's because, assuming EA had not slotted in a Toddler Stage, EA is in a real fix- they have to take resources that should be finishing up the second years EP/SPs and already working on year three's releases to do an entire life stage losing the money on the future releases at least in the short run by giving toddlers away for "free" and delaying future release scheduling OR charging for toddlers in some fashion which is sure to spark an additional outcry and more dissatisfaction. This is most likely true for a range of features. Now, the question is why were toddlers left out in the first place?
The problem with S4, as has been touched on numerous times, is that it was most likely designed as an Online game that would necessarily require and employ a far different dynamic than a strictly solo game. When Sim City blew up in their faces, deservedly so, they scrambled to convert S4 into a standard computer game. I think S4 Online was going to be set up where you just played yourself as a Sim interacting with other people playing themselves as a Sim much like the Sims Online was ten years ago. As such you wouldn't need a baby or Toddler stage because there wouldn't be babies and toddlers playing. So they scrambled to convert the game, making the baby into an object and hoping people will get over the fact that there are no Toddlers because the effort to try and patch them in retroactively is too great for the reward given the short time span they had to switch gears. Now, maybe they are rethinking it, maybe not. Since everyone else has their guesses I'd say mine is around Christmas toddlers will arrive in some fashion and if not by that point then most likely they're not coming at all.
I was just in the kitchen making dinner, daughter and I were talking and it dawned on me, please bear with me.
I play Everquest 2, have for 10 years. When Aion came out and their was flying everyone went crazy and loved it. Players of EQ2 begged for flying. SOE (Sony Online Entertainment) came out fairly quickly and told us no their would never be flying mounts in EQ2 because the game wasn't programmed for flying due to one of the axis's. No one was truly upset because we had lived for a long time without them and besides it was something we never had before. With no, hope was ended, but at least we didn't have this constant maybe hanging over our heads. A year later we got a HUGE surprise and we had flying mounts.
The reason so many people are upset about toddlers is it is a major life stage, something we have had for 10 years and something we were promised. I also think it is symptom of so much that is lacking in the game. EA/Maxis is never going to give us toddlers and they have no intention to. They are not going to even tells us no. And why you may ask? They want us to keep our hopes up, that maybe, just maybe, the next holiday, or the one year anniversary, or the next expansion, or the next update, or the next tweet will have a some hidden message that our little's ones will be back. That hope leads us to continue to spend more money to purchase more expansions, more game packs and more stuff packs because the second they say nope not going to happen how many will never buy another thing for Sims 4?
P.S Sorry about so many edits, trying to think, cook and run back and forth to the kitchen.

11 Months later and still no progress in the direction that helps players to enjoy sims 4. On many levels this game has not changed for the better for many players. Still guru's are putting out the same answer over and over and the excuse is getting tired and old.
How long do you think we're going believe that you shirked toddlers for a better experience? When emotions don't even have the full range of ai or animation that sims 2, a game made 10 years ago, possesses. How long are you going to think we'll believe the game has better multitasking with routing, when every time i ask the sims to do the dishes they run around the house about 4 to 5 times before finding the sink. Let alone the musical my sims play when siting down to eat. Everyone eats slowly and annoyingly plays on their phone because they can't decipher dinner time and couch time. How long do you think we're going to believe this is a better trait system when us fans have had the choice of more than 3 traits for the past 15 years. The fact the last gp and the last EP did not add any new traits, let alone trait slots for players. The fact you copy pasta sims 3 life time rewards into sims 4 and now claim they are traits. They have nothing to do with personality, or building our sims unique character. How long are you going to ignore your fanbase and treat us like we don't have a clue as to what state this game is in let alone how to improve it so we can better enjoy it. The idea forum is full of threads and suggestions clearly with ideas on how to improve areas that many fans want to play. How long are you going to be stuck at Launch Day while the rest of us are waiting and ready to move on and progress the game so that it gets better?
Now you want to say you're concentrating on other things and that toddlers and the many other list of things you excluded aren't important as your vision of the game. However this is not your fanbase vision and many of us are flat our rejecting it. This was not what we wanted, nor is it what we looked forward too. The disappointment may have been a hard pill to swallow thank you for finally admitting you did disappoint us. However did you get the message behind what we're saying. You completely stepped over us and excluded us when making your game now we can't enjoy it. Now because you chose an mmo/tablet style engine and build your fanbase has been left here waiting and hanging. 11 months later and the same excuse you're going focus on providing better.
When?
When are you going to provide better? You're losing your fanbase in droves. An article just posted today on Honey's page how your digital sales didn't even out do sims 3. 75 million revenue even at higher costs to the players, couldn't beat out sims 3 135 million with in the same time frame. Not only that your retail sales did poorly. You didn't just behave naively and shirked your fanbase. You completely misunderstood the use and importance of your game by your fanbase. Now you're trying to drop us as irrelevant. You're telling us that still our way of playing is not important that your vision of sims 4 is what matters most. However that means also my money is not important to you and neither is the rest of us that you have disappointed. It is not fair to the sims as a franchise and it is not fair to your fanbase that we are still getting this same excuses we did 11 months ago without any intent to progress forward. Rather than take hard swallows on pills let's try a taste of humble pie and start literally working with your fanbase before this ship blows up in your face and you cannot turn it around.
Thank you Anavastia for this amazing thread, it is very insightful and well written.
I have been saying these things for 8 months. At this point I don't think it is just excuses I am starting to think that the entire Sims 4 team have no clue what they are doing and are completely out of touch with the reality of their fan base. I think excuses is the best they can up with to hide their misgivings and they think they are highly superior and more enlightened then the rest of us peons that buy's the product that pay's their pay checks.
Eight months ago I complained about:
No toddlers; no pools; no dishwashers; no trash compactors; no terrain tools; no pond tools; not even the simplest of a cast system that we had 10 years ago in Sims 2; about the enormous Lego Land size of the telescope, trees and doll house; about how our Sims are so smart they can have a rocket ship but yet they can't figure out how to build a car or a bike. Eight months since the game has been released we have gotten only pools, which are lacking compared to pools in both Sims 2 & Sims 3. Yes, we got GTW and OR, but how many of us would trade both for bug fixes and all the things that are missing that were in both Sims 2 and Sims 3 base games?
The entire Sims 4 team spends more time worrying about bro's, super duper cupcake makers (last week when I made cupcakes I made them in a magical thing called an OVEN), about tweeting, about Star Wars outfits, about more party stuff, about me using the opposite word of smart and replacing it with plum, instead of worrying about fixing bugs and adding things to the game that the Sim base (which have been shelling out money to EA/Maxis for 15 years) have been asking for and know what we need and want more. As well we were blatantly lied to and promised "The Sims 4 will have all of the same life stages as previous games, Baby, Toddler, Child, Teen, Young Adult, Adult, and Elder."
They say they hear us but they can't even be bothered to look at their Bugs & Feedback section or their Technical section to find out the games bugs but then expect us to tweet or call them. They need to get off their lethargic high horse and actually read this sites sections. It is not my responsibility to tweet them or to call them when there is a perfectly good site right here for us to report problems and give them feed back.
I remember when EA was an amazing company. Ten years ago when our home was burglarized, most of my games & laptop stolen, EA did what ever they could do to help me get replacement game codes so I could play what few games that were not stolen. When Sims 2 University came out it had a bug where NPC's would get stuck and not move. Within a week we had a complete fix, not a half fix, and the fix didn't break even more things. Now you can't even get them to fix their bugs or look at their own site. It is truly sad and pathetic how far they have fallen. The Sims 2 team prided them self of creativity, testing horizons in advancement, implementing a game that ran smoothly, being proud of the product that they released and pleasing their base. The Sims 4 team is happy with being below mediocre while the fan base knows it can be done better because it was done better 10 years ago and allowed for Sims 3 to grow even further.
They're so far removed from their fanbase it's just very sad. Nevermind trying to appeal to a vast majority as we as simmers come from all walks of life. You never see them really give recognition to those walks of life, our varieties, our differences. We recognition to things like starwars day but when it comes to things like baby showers, anniversaries, weddings, sweet sixteens, and any other fun thing like white day etc. there is no recognition where they know their playerbase would appeal to it. Where as culture is concerned it non existence. They only thing the want to appeal to is something probably a small group would like when it comes to the game. The heart of sims was always about the player and the player's experience in how they used the game to create their play. It was never about a story, never about how much you could achieve or rewards. Now even the feedback they don't want this place is a just a graveyard to pacify players. Clearly moving my thread says it all because they don't even want us discussing the articles. I wasn't giving feed back i was literally asking a question. How long til we start to see the results they promised on day one rather than feeding us the same excuses. My thread did not deserve to be moved at all. Yet clearly general discussion they don't want it be seen sales aren't doing good.
They don't want it be seen players are not happy.
They really don't want it be seen that we're on to them and that the same PR excuse they keep trying to repeat like a broken politician is not working on us.
I just agree with everything you had to say because this is how i've felt as well being 15 years apart of this franchise and still EA has not invested in their female playerbase. Now it's really apparent we're a laughing joke because any other triple A title do you see this happening. No and it's okay to just sell us this thinking we'll buy it. It's really insulting towards apart not because they were naive but because they didn't even value or understand the meaning of sims. How more wretched when they take funds needed to supply to our game and spent it on titan fall and other titles because thats how much the really value us as a playerbase. They make these massive cheap cuts, feed us a bogus story and tell us we should pony up for it if we truly are loyal.
It's been one slap in the face after another and the real tell all as to how you can tell the experience is not better and it's nothing but 10 times worse like sims 3 is the massive amount of complaints in the bug section going unheard and unsolved.

I didn't even buy TS4 in the first place, I stood firm and never gave in to the 'check these emotions out, this game is going to awesome' which was their awkward and embarrassing live broadcast back last year.
But it's a a complete Lie. She's completely is saying in her article they have no intentions to work on toddlers not now and haven't even given in though int he future. It's something they find not important right now. Plus she even breaks down the tech part as to why. What this guy is saying it's the complete opposite. She's saying toddlers aren't coming any time soon if ever.
Kind of off topic but why doesn't another company try and develop a live simulator game?
Love your username.
But I think it is because they fear EA will sue them.
Can they really sue them? I mean it's competitive/capitalistic market 101. That seems like they wouldn't win in court. There are lots of FPS games or RPG they aren't suing eachother. Some games are even really similar to each other. It makes no sense to me!
PS: Thanks! This is my user name for EVERYTHING. LOL I've had it for years.

They can't sue them, for a simulation game, it's just if im an indie dev you gotta have strong financial resources to make a good competitive sims game. Someone starting out isn't going to have those kinds of resources like EA. Bigger titles i don't even think they have an interest in a fanbase that is mostly female.

It seems that the target aduence are now teenage boys with the 'bro traits' with focus on pranks and woohoo and teenage girls with 'cute guys' and pink trees
Mature players are 'too old' it seems. At 27, I feel that TS3 is the most mature Sims game for me

I'm glad you did. I miss that game sooo much...and the sims 2 and 1. I got this game for discount, but I still had to pay money. It's an okay game but not the best. I also want to collect all the games and the eps, but I might rethink that idea...More power to ya for staying strong

Yeah I decided after GTW and how small the map was that I won't be paying full price for any Sims 4 game again.

Exactly even though gamin stastics say that majority of players are over 30 now and that the younger audience isn't into gaming like the older ones. Equally the female audience is increasingly growing among a lot of titles. Believe it or not but skyrim has a vast female playerbase. The problem is and has remained so since i was younger is that it's still viewed as not profitable to pursue older crowds or females. They still think financially theres more to be gained for adolescent male minors.
Problem is that's just not their sims audience and they've never been able to pull them over to this game no matter what they've tried. Trying to get a competitor to see the gold mine in snatching EA's audience is hard because in honesty investors take risks if they see there is sound financial stability in making a life simulator to compete with sims.
However honestly if you ask me there is money here and always have been if not more. Ea has never been capable of bringing out a simulators true capabilities and equally any game developer that does take up this task can make a killing from the cute things they can make alone for toddlers and infants as long as the flesh them out. Along with kids, teens, etc. EA has never embraced the actual simulation game but any competitor that actually sees the true worth of this game will definately target the audience that's more than willing to spend on it. As long as they can deliver.

Well said!
Joke's on them. I don't buy games now unless they are discounted I'm might not buy all of this extra content at all.
I didn't even buy TS4 in the first place, I stood firm and never gave in to the 'check these emotions out, this game is going to awesome' which was their awkward and embarrassing live broadcast back last year.
I have an awesome Sims game thanks
Love your username.
But I think it is because they fear EA will sue them.
Ya. I'm 36. I find the potty humor pretty 🐸🐸🐸🐸. Also why the heck are they changing all these words? I don't understand!
Yeah I decided after GTW and how small the map was that I won't be paying full price for any Sims 4 game again.

I will never give in to 'their vision'
I follow Will Wright's vision, he is my Master and I am his disciple
I played TS1 when I was 12, I wouldn't have thought too much of the daft humour even then
Exactly even though gamin stastics say that majority of players are over 30 now and that the younger audience isn't into gaming like the older ones.
I LOVE Skyrim. I also like other games like Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Fallout, and Bioshock. Oh, I'm female! SURPRISE STATISTICS! LOL.
