"Silence speaks louder than words!" What they are not saying tells us that getting the game "WE" want is not going to happen.
The survey that dissed "Older" players should have been the first clue.
Being over 50, I was insulted that after I answered my age the survey said Thank You and was done!? I haven't received another survey since!!!!! One would think they would want to know what their "15 yr Long time loyal" customers are wanting in TS. It seems not.
The controversy killed SimCity and it isn't looking good for the future of TS IMHO.
If I go into a coffee shop and order a Mocha but get only sugar in my coffee, I am going to complain. Then if I get told that I will "Get used to it." or "We are exploring the option of Mocha" I wont be back. Just state you have no intention of making a Mocha!! This in effect is what EA/Maxis is telling us. In all honesty they do have the right to make TS any way they so desire. It is their game to do with as they please, as they have shown quite clearly! What is so very hard to understand (age talking here) is why the would change both games so drastically? That is what I so don't understand. Programming has advanced in the last 10 years and they say doing something similar to TS2 is to hard and expensive??? SimGuruLyndsay stated they have the full backing and support of EA (statement in a Guru chat), which tells me the to expensive is out. Programming being to hard to do something that has been done for the last 10 yrs again not gonna fly! Sorry but I have now accepted that "What you see is what your are getting!". Their "Vision" and only their "Vision"!!
At this point I have washed my hands of TS4 and anything coming in the future from TS franchise. It isn't so much the game lacking, as the total disrespect from the company itself! I learned that respect and common courtesy goes along way, but they are both a dying concept!!
On a side note, Origin doesn't help the situation much either.
Just my two cents worth! Not worth much but all I have!
Will Wright is not weeping over the Sims 4 and what became of *his* "vision". Will Wright could care less about The Sims series. He sold all the rights to Electronic Arts when he left Maxis.
I'm not really surprised that there's nobody on here trying to defend the game and telling us that we are betraying the Sims with all this negativity. The last person that tried that line of reasoning got his/her wrist slapped pretty hard.
That's the second comment about Sims 4 defenders. It's as if you're deliberately baiting us but we won't bite. At least not today. We're too excited by the new stuff pack releasing today.
No one is baiting anyone. I'm simply stating a fact in response to someone who said in their reply that Will Wright is weeping. The fact is that Will Wright has moved on to develop a game he calls The Hive. It's supposed to be a social experiment where he uses an app to track people's movements and urges them to get together at a certain pre-arranged meeting place.
That's the short explanation. He's all excited about it.
EA Marketing Department Motto:

I Disapprove (Naturally) I Took The Pledge!
I'm not sending letters anymore, im not sending emails anymore or contacting customer support anymore. I'm not going to sit here and try to reason with a group of people who have their fingers stuck in their ears and want to pretend like everything is okay. When clearly things are heading south and heading south fast. They've had enough time and I've had more than enough patience with this team to get things together and organized to where they start to deliver on this game.
I am simply not funding this, and none of my family will either. There is no way i'll endorse or support sims 4 now and equally i will make sure none of my friends or family do either. Word of mouth is the biggest pain a game can have and let's be honest word of mouth about sims 4 is has been nothing but bad since it's existence. I'm not about to give ideas or waste time for a team that refuses to listen in anyway to it's fanbase or audience. I'm tired of the lying and equally tired of the silence and pr talk that has lead to no where and continues to lead no where. As a customer I have waited long enough for this thing to be turned around. 0 Effort has been placed in doing. I will place 0 effort in trying to like this game. I will surely treat sims team, EA, and Maxis with the same disdain and rudeness they've treated their fanbase. I am fed up. I rather take praxis advice and hope for another competitor to rise an scoop up the millions of fans ea 🐸🐸🐸🐸 off if i can find a group of them to ever be vocal and help out in getting at least someone to noticed there is still money to be had in simulation gaming and to pick up making a life simulator.
To be honest going this route is dead. If anything ea will drop this game like a bad habit because they can't pull their revenue up and equally fans won't ever trust this same team to deliver what want and have the same vision as their audience. The crazy part is we simmers get it and have somewhat the same idea of what we want it's them who don't get it and never will. I'm surely not going to waste another 2 years hoping they'll get it after and listening to bogus excuse after excuse while they quitely play on their twitter accounts ignoring the hot mess they've caused.
I understand your frustration. I feel it, too. However, I have seen this community band together and make changes. If they see missed revenue, their eyes and ears will open. However, for people that will say they will not spend a dime, then that is when it becomes pointless. If we want changes, they have to have a monetary reason to make the investment in the series. Those of us who were unhappy with the way TS3 was going should have spoken up together. I just left the franchise for a while and came back hoping for the best. And this game is what I got for my silence. I know you have been very vocal Anavastia. I think I remember you from the old TS2 BBS. Imagine your voice if we could get everyone else who is unhappy to speak up, too. People can move mountains when they work together.
I have been around far too long and for the entirety of sims 3 i've pushed and pushed as i wanted player to get the best out of their experience. I've long been trying to reason and talk to dev's and advocate for a better game. I have been trying for a long time for sims fans to show their support of each other as a whole in trying to get change and things turned around so that all players can enjoy the game not just some. I have faced ridicule, group think tactics, having my threads closed through trolling, racism, abuse speech, developers taking pot shots at me, and equally company ignoring me only until they see one of my ideas will be profitable to them. yes a lot of my ideas have come about in this game. I have taken a lot of abuse over this and like i said im more than just tired of the ignorance displayed by this company today through this article.
What has come very clear to me is that they are not wanting to make a better game. They are using this game as some sort of celebrity status to stoke their egos. Anyone who says other wise is moved to this section to die in the sea of ignorance and silence that comes with this section. They don't even come to their own forums because no one here is going to stoke their ego's as heavily as they do on twitter. They aren't interested in giving the consumer what they want. I can read the haughty tone Rachel has that she is far from interested in admitting her vision is a failure. Clearly she's telling she's willing to push on with it to the very end, rather than do something to change things around. She has no intention of delivering on what fans want.
I have been very vocal, and a lot of fans have gotten a lot of fun things because of that, however how long do you think i should just sit there and remain this loud voice yelling at EA to deliver. I'm not in the habit at shouting down brick walls like some lunatic. I go different routes and or bust them down when they become obstacles for me. It's very clear that inorder for ea to pull their heads out of the clouds they need a good swift kick of competition. If that's the case first i'll do my research to find out why there are not bitters for the life simulation game industry and why EA was able to grasp the market hold to alone. Right now EA has no competitor over the sims and can choose to do what they want with it as they figure their fans will buckle. Basically Rachel clearly playing a chess game with us where she's waiting us out for a checkmate. I've stayed on top of her long enough to know she's not winning this game with me and im tired of it and about the flip the entire chess board over. I don't care how long it takes me i will find the numbers i'm looking for and I will get an investor or different company to bite. That's going to be my voice from here on out. I'm taking the money else where. As this is the only solution to show EA what a voice can do.
Look I've long given them enough clues they have the incentive and money backing to do what the fans want. They have it and continue to have it. The money is just sitting there waiting for EA to deliver on what it was we wanted. Im not going to spend a dime because she's not going to offer what it is I want. Rachel was very clear on that she doesn't want my money or fans like me. When a developer that high a teir ups and tells you they aren't even considering what you as a consumer want right now or any time in the future it's as good as gold to know she's saying she doesn't need your business. Than you learn to take your business elsewhere. It's just that simple, if that's the case im taking my business else where that's how the market works. Giving them my money and asking them to move mountains is pointless and you've lost your money as they won't move those mountains. All it does is feed their ego and tells the team they've done something right when clearly that's not the message i want them to have. My money will continue to sit with me until EA or another company can put an offer on the table im looking for, other wise no sale. Since she clearly states she's not setting out an offer EA is not the company to go with.
I wasn't actually going to comment on this thread but seeing pretty much EVERYONE (emphasis) has said something I'll chuck in my 2p also..
I'm tired. I'm tired of coming on to this site everyday hoping that my wishes have been fulfilled only to see Jack Squat. Zip. Nada. Zilch. I'm tired of having to repeat myself over and over yet getting no response in return from EA. I'm tired of feeling like plum every time I even think of the Sims 4. When I then compare this to the excitement and joy I feel when I'm thinking about a play session with TS2 and TS3, it's even worse.
I feel that, and I'm being very serious, if we haven't heard anything regarding toddlers by the end of this month then I am officially D.O.N.E! I love this series of games, heck, I even love what The Sims 4 could be and it would take a lot for me to stop playing altogether. I'm usually strictly PS4 and TS is the only PC game I play but all this hassle just isn't worth it any more.

Exactly. I'm tired, there has been no progress, and equally we're back at day one. To have months of silence only to come to have 11 months later the same words thrown towards our way again just shows there is 0 progress being done with this game. I get joy playing sims 2 and sims 3. Let's be honest it's already paid for an ea is not about to get profit with those two games anymore.
I play a lot of pc games and im just not going to lower my standards of simulation gaming for EA. I've long tried to reason with them. It's time to start looking for another outlet. Im not setting anymore deadlines either, this something that should have been done. They hard their chances and they blew it. it's that simple.

Yup! I agree. I still have the last 2 EP's and a few things from the store I still need but I would rather put my money towards an old game than TS4 any day.
You know, before I left these forums, if one of you guys had said to me this is where we would be today I would've told you you were cray cray. OMG, I can remember when they announced TS4 - I was like a kid at Christmas. I remember thinking about when TS2 came out and it made me even MORE excited as I hadn't played that in YEARS. I was expecting a hybrid TS2 AND TS3 and what I got was barely TS at all.
I now feel the complete opposite about this game as to when I first heard about it. I thank whoever had a hand in making TS2/TS3 but that's all the thanks they're getting from me.

That's the second comment about Sims 4 defenders. It's as if you're deliberately baiting us but we won't bite. At least not today. We're too excited by the new stuff pack releasing today.
No one is baiting anyone. Today when your stuff pack comes out and it has nothing but a few items are you going to be happy? There is a reason the stuff pack is only $10.00. EA doesn't market a huge pack for half the price of a Game Pack, especially when Stuff Packs 10 years ago (that were stuff packed with items) were $20.00. They also should have just taken that stuff and put it in either the base game, or in the expansion or in the game pack instead of expecting us to spend even more money on useless party times.
Moving on...
When Sims 2 was being created I am sure the Sims 2 team & Will Wright spent many hours working over time, working off the clock, taking work home with them. This was what is done when you want to make an amazing product, this is what is done when you believe in your job, this is what is done when you want to take pride in your work, this is what was done by our parents, by our grandparents and by our great grandparents. They didn't worry about being popular or about offending someone, they didn't let someone tell them it can't be done, they did what it took. I don't think that can be said about the Sims 4 team. I don't see them taking work home with them or working longs hours, or working off the clock. They spend more time tweeting about going to the movies then fixing bugs or even finding out what bugs there are.
My husband who works with the public says that the hires coming in today do not get what is required to succeed. That most (NOT ALL) need their hands held, have no common sense, you can't say anything to them because they become easily offended, god forbid you tell them to work harder and get off their phones because they break down and can't handle criticism, don't bother asking them to stay over because they won't.
My generation I am sad to say is partially responsible for the road that is laying out ahead of us. We have allowed for rear end kissing and favoritism to allow for promotions instead of hard work. We have fooled ourselves into believing that just because a person has a college education that makes a person more qualified then the person that has been actually doing the hard work for 20 years. We have pushed political correctness instead of freedom of speech and the truth. We have and are raising a generation of kids and adults that think they are all winners and everything they do is just fabulous when it isn't. We have said it is better to be popular and famous then it is to be ethically morale & taking pride in hard work. We have allowed for a generation of immature adults that don't want to think, don't want to work hard, don't want a challenge, don't question anything, don't want to do any research, and are more concerned about things being easy and being bro's and cool with children & teenagers instead of setting an example. By doing these things they don't understand that the more work and time you put into creating something the better that creation will be and everything else will fall into place. Our ancestors that came before us understood those simple things, the creators of Sims 2 understood that. If they want Sims 4 to be a success then they need to put in the extra effort by fixing the games bugs and listening to their fan base. If they start doing those things, and quickly, then maybe the game will start being a success, but I fear time is running out because even a fan base has their limits.

Welcome the falsehood of what people call progression. When in truth it's not. Equally what becomes of a game that lays claim it's an advancement but hasn't offered anything new to the series at all other than another rpg. A terrible one that that. Lay claim to another's idea and call it their own brand new work. Equally legally can profit off of it. This is the world we live in today and the sad thing is you have people who defend it to the death because they don't like the idea of change.
The problem is these kinds of people and situations don't last long in human society because if history teaches one thing and that is these kinds of people never survive any negativity or structure thrown their way. So nature has a way of weeding it out anyway as you must be that kind of individual that can work hard, survive hardships, and push forward, acknowledge the truth, and equally over come adversity. When that happens change comes about for the better. You can liken that to this situation to where you have the same thing happening and clearly sims 4 has hit a disaster and it's not about to pull itself out our up because it's not able to adjust, change and struggle through. Most likely because Ea is not willing ot put forth the manpower needed to save the franchise it will let it run it's natural coarse. We as fans we can survive it and bet smarter and a bit wiser about it as well. You never know because of a disaster like this a new and better path can always be made or created. Look at City skylines.
Honestly, I don't get them. The Sims is a game that can easily be used to fund so many other projects. Make a solid base for it and people will throw their money at you because they get real enjoyment out of it.
You win, they are happy, more money, more games. Why is it so hard to see, for them?

I get that they want yo use Sims money for other projects. But since this is a great source of income to them, why not make sure it will continue to be? That's what i wonder.

Because they think we're dopes who buy anything with the brand on it. So they counted on us just moving along with the flow so they could keep using the money we put into OUR game to fund other games. Because The Sims has always been a steady revenue stream for them. And they've been putting the least amount of money into the game for a long time.

Yeah I don't understand that either. The Sims 4 should have had enough of a financial cushion to ensure it was going to sell well or at least have back up to invest make it better and cater to more players.

I think everyone knows I'm not a big family player. I'm the player that TS4 was "supposed" to be aimed at....not age wise but the "weirder stories" player. I hate to tell them but it doesn't cut it for me either. I support the players who want their kind of family play restored because as a weirder stories player I can see so much is missing from my game play too.
Honestly I was looking forward to TS4. I didn't fall for the ad hype so much (after all it is EA) but I read interviews and comments by the devs and I tended to believe what they were saying. After all they were working on the game and they knew what was in it....didn't they? When I started to play it took a bit to get used to the new set up but I wasn't totally dismayed with what I saw....the map, the small living areas. I was looking forward to those new emotional, smarter Sims.
What did bother me was how much was missing. The game seemed odd because things like the cemetery, repair men and baby sitters were missing. They've added ghosts now but they , along with townies, get culled. Have you any idea how annoying it is to work for hours and hours to set up a family plot for your story only to find it empty and dead because the game culled them? Sim Guru Daniel said that a cemetery was on his to do list but I keep wondering how he's going to keep it populated.
The humor is another thing. There has been humor in the game that was sly and intelligent only to be replaced with a pie in your face.
The family players get my empathy because while I rarely play families I do have kids when needed for the sake of the story. I was playing along, working with what the game gave me, and my Sims disappeared into the Sim "nothing world" to go to work. The next thing that happened was that I got a pop up saying all kids were sent to day care. It bothered me enough that I shut down the game and didn't try again for a couple of months. All I could think was ....."OMG how cheap can they get"?
There is so much that has disappointed me that's it's actually left a bad taste in my mouth for all Sims games. I used to love 2 and 3 but the disappointment has carried over and I rarely think about opening any of them. I miss my games and I'd love to play again but for right now it's just been ruined for me.
I've spent most of my time playing little free games (not Sims) on my tablet. How's that for you EA? Some time waster physics game holds my interest more that the Sims do now.

Thank you for acknowledging what I have been watching happen for 30 years.
You are most welcome.

Yep their scensoring the players and not allowing us to ask questions and speak about the treatment we've received. Very clear sign they aren't about to provide fans with their looking for and they don't care or want to here what their fanbase has to say.
Since everyone's given their opinion, I feel I ought to give mine.
I'm just going to say it: Sims 4 feels half-dead to me and my patience is dying with it.
I've tried to enjoy this game and for a while, I really did. But that novelty wore off quickly. Sims 4 does not do for me what Sims 2 and Sims 3 do. When I go without playing Sims for a while and start missing the game, it's always my sims from 2 and 3 I'm missing and feel the pull for. My sims from Sims 4 are just there. When I do play Sims 4, it feels like I'm trying to make myself enjoy it. I haven't even tried the active careers yet because I don't care to, which is unusual for me. Normally, when I get an expansion pack, I play until I manage to exhaust every possible feature that came with it. Get To Work doesn't make me feel like that. All I've done is the retail and the pathetically small amount of lots in Magnolia Promenade really turns me off.
I've grown increasingly pessimistic not only about Sims 4, but also about EA. I really don't feel they're listening, no matter how much they say they are. Those words mean nothing if they're not backed up with actions and evidence, and I see none that prove they truly are listening. We should not be hearing the same tired old excuses eleven months later. The most basic things pale in comparison to its predecessors. It feels like EA does not care about this series anymore. If the game being a flop isn't enough to make them realize they need to step it up, what is?
I'm not huge on playing generations, but I do enjoy playing families and they just do not feel like families. And no, I am not only saying that because of toddlers' absence or infants' confinement to their cradles. It's because of the sims themselves. They seem more like movable clay models than people. The multitasking got annoying fast because they are constantly queuing up multiple actions against my wishes. It's difficult to hold a conversation in public between two sims because other sims will come and join in the conversation. The emotion system has more cracks than a sidewalk. My child sim came home from school feeling embarrassed and stressed, and cheered up as soon as she walked in her house because she got a decorated moodlet. What kid who had a bad day at school is going to feel better because the house is nicely decorated?
I do not want to a replica of one of the previous games. I don't think anybody does. I want a game that improves upon the previous games' features and Sims 4 is not doing that. So far, it seems Sims 4 is little more than a party game.
My best guess is, Rachel Franklin (a new face to TS) pitched a great sounding idea for the newest version of TS. RF has no prior knowledge of TS but does with online games, programs and apps. Lucy Bradshaw(also in charge of the Simcity fiasco) teams up with this new idea and the rest is what it is!! I do agree with the question of why the change and not just a branch off of the original series? As with SimCity make an online game sure but have the good ole standby up and running first. Then if/when the online doesn't work, you still have a backup!!
On the SimCity site people are still looking for more and would love to have EP for SC. I agree, I would have loved to have had a EP with farming and such since it is offline and plays great. Instead they just washed their hands of the whole game, without a backward glance for their Long time loyal customers!!
Reminds me of the story about "Killing the Goose that lays the golden eggs!".
edit name correction; Lucy Bradshaw is in charge of TS & now closed SimCity and SimCity Buildit.
Bravo, that's so true it deserves repeating. Great post!
Thank you EA and thank you Maxis..we got our babies back, Yay!
I'll probably do a vlog sometime this week about how EA doesn't care and BEG competent gaming companies to create a life sim and BEG sims fans to come together to create a life sim. I mean, it's prime time now. With EA and the devs not willing to listen, somebody should get their hands into this market. Competition is needed BADLY. I'm at the point now where I am fed up and can't trust these devs. Somebody has to do something, whether my idea is a failure or not. At least I'm trying for alternatives. I mean, what's the point of raising my voice, typing out my frustrations, if EA is not going to listen anyways? I can try to send my voice else where to people who might listen. And kudos for those who are going to write to the higher ups of this company. At least you guys are doing something!
Idk. If the sims franchise completely ends, I will be dressed in all black, wearing a black church hat and a grayed out plumbob on my hat. And I will be blaming every soulless individual at EA. I really hope it doesn't end.
What really makes me mad is how EA/Maxis has gone back to their old ways of treating their long term customers (Simmers) like piles of horse hockey. It's intolerable and inexcusable.
Comments
"We Don't Care If You LIKE The Game, Just As Long As You BUY The Game!"
I Disapprove (Naturally)
I Took The Pledge!
Enough is enough.

I'm actually disgusted with EA.

I get that they want yo use Sims money for other projects. But since this is a great source of income to them, why not make sure it will continue to be? That's what i wonder.
My tumblr - A world of clutter and color
Because they think we're dopes who buy anything with the brand on it. So they counted on us just moving along with the flow so they could keep using the money we put into OUR game to fund other games. Because The Sims has always been a steady revenue stream for them. And they've been putting the least amount of money into the game for a long time.
Thank you for acknowledging what I have been watching happen for 30 years.
