Call me a hypocrite, call me selfish, call me a plum narb afoo because at this moment, I’m questioning a lot of the sims teams trains of thought.
Realm of magic, a throwback to a classic i and plenty of others wish they’d experienced back in the day, yet, as excited as we are, myself especially, why are EA releasing a new game pack when the base itself barely has anything going for it? Cosmetic wise and item wise, the sims 4 is beyond lacking, and it’s mostly thanks to the amazing simmers out there that we’ve been able to think up new ways to use what little we have to work with, which isn’t as awful as it sounds but, what happened to quality? What happened to listening and giving us what we want.
Yes, I speak for probably a small number of sims fans, however, as feedback allows us to do so, I feel the urge to speak out and bring up the constant thing on our minds: where are the new stair options?! Where are improved babies? Where are improved elders and teens and general added build abilities and options that we need and have routinely asked for?
Obviously this is not an attack on staff, EA is a business, they are hired to do as EA say and what the higher ups decide is best, this is in no way me calling anyone lazy or thoughtless, this is simply me asking the question to those in charge of saying yes or no on content for the game.
Truthfully right now, I am angry, I am upset at how lackluster the base game is and how little we have going on, with no story progression to help my world grow, the game already has a big negative in my mind, how as we all do, we make the most out of what we have, and that is what I’m here about, to ask for more and ask why we don’t have more when this game is supposed to be about real life and in real life we have plenty more stair options and abilities to build homes on a much smaller scale.
Yes objects and sims themselves require months, even years of work in regards to animations and interactions, objects and such need coding and designing and getting a thumbs up or down, everything requires work and no doubt there are staff on the sims team who share our wants and desires, or just want to make us happy and deliver what we ask, I’m not for a moment pretending they are blind or deaf to our cries for more content, because that is not only thoughtless on my part but also unbelievably ignorant, that is not at all what I’m here to be.
If any of the sims team are reading this or even kind enough to comment, can we just have some sort of answer as to the content mentioned above and through comments I hope you fellow simmers will share below.
This is not meant to be a thread bashing the team or EA, it’s questions that need answering, even if it’s an emoji, I don’t expect a yes or no answer, i just want to know someone is out there taking on board what we are saying and maybe, is making it, even if they can’t confirm it, just to know something we want is coming, whether it’s next week, next month, next year, I’ll wait, I just want some sort of answer, as do a lot of us.
So comment below on how you feel about this and why you think realm of magic isn’t a need when the game is actually in requirement of bunch more useful and important content.
Please no arguments or negativity to what other simmers deem important, we all have our own ideas and desires so be nice and come together to make the game better.
I’m now going to build my sims underground mansion and try to pretend Vlad isn’t looking through my windows.

Realm of Magic is indeed a need for me. Witches are the only occult I like and I've been waiting 5 years for them. For me they're more important than a baby, teen, or elder update.
Magic, however, is something that I need to play in my game.
I think part of the reason we haven't seen major new build functions in a little while is because they're likely to be patched in. And given they're probably more time-consuming (and money-consuming!) to build than other free content such as CAS items or buy catalog items, they're not as high a priority. And although I don't personally agree, I assume the majority of players are more likely to be excited by new things for their sims rather than new terrain tools or stair styles.
Babies/families are another issue. I think one of the gurus said most players don't play kids/families. Maybe they would if those elements were more developed, but...
I'm in my early 20's but I dont want modern, magic, harry potter, clubbing, picture taking etc. Kind of things. Or maybe I should rephrase that. It's not that I dont want it because I use everything they put out but I don't think it should be a priority when we are missing so many basic things.
Babies and family interactions especially.
We cant do something as simple as talking the toddler in a stroller or bathing two toddlers at once when you have twins. The sims for me is all about the little details that make it magical for me. Not the big flashy stuff they keep showing off. So yes I'm happy for the people who were desperately waiting for magic but I'm with you on this one.
I mentioned in another thread most of my family play is done through downloaded poses and imagination just for simple things like walking while holding hands and changing the baby on an actual changing station, comforting the child after a nightmare etc. Everyday real life things are missing. Pretty sad. I'm disappointed how much kids lack. Barely any interaction.
I also wonder if anyone is listening to us.
I agree with @simgirl1010 .
I don't know if the spiral staircases will come they might ... I remember hanging around for a convo after a livestream where they talked about the problems they faced with those it made sense although the Guru speaking was shouted down for trying to be informative. Personally I hope for improved babies .. but not expecting a total revamp if it will make them function poorly. As we go along I'm sure there are still things left to come for teens and elders... I'm rooting for things for elders personally.
You might be disappointed in Realm of Magic but if you look to polls they are giving many simmers what they want. Sure you don't want to hear anything else but there are simmers who want it and have wanted it.. including me. I've been waiting since the base game hit. It matters to me and many others..
I do want magic. I don't plan to use if for every Sim, but I want the option for some of my families. I would have liked it better if children had been included. I would love a new aspiration for children, and one magic related would have been fantastic.
I do also want better babies and teens. Traits that influence the Sims more would also be nice. Some of them work well now, but others, like bookworm, need improvement. So I agree about those.
To be fair they came from the Sims 3 store team in Salt Lake City - not from our game Sims team at Maxis. There is no store team and no store.

The problem is, that TS4 is basically like a RPG game with too easy for player, boring and repetitive fighting system. Instead of new, better „core”, we are like „give us more maps, more mobs, maybe this time it will be better”!
I like the magic idea more than farm but... I do not expecting „fireworks”. The game without mods is boring for me - no social connections, no attractiveness system, no consequences for player. The Realm of Magic is another „new maps and mobs”, but the game will change nothing, I guess.

Us occult fans had to wait for a very long time to get new occults, and this will only be the second occult which is fully developed, after vampires. (aliens and mermaids are nice but rather shallow as they are just a small part of a bigger pack.
So I am really happy we get magic after 5 years of the sims 4. And I need magic in my game.
The topic you mention in your title matter to me as well. We still miss some build options like spiral staircases and babies who are more than just objects. But I want them to be combined or next to magic not instead of magic.
The occult players had to wait a long time but now we finally got more occults. The patience of family players is also tested and I hope we will get more family play in the future. Preferably combined with occults in my case because I would have loved to have magical children or toddler mermaids. The younger sims don't get enough attention, both in occult themes and realistic themes.
Unless you are screaming about "living your best life" and "doing you" and why you're the most perfect human being in the world, no one will be interested in what you have to say.
The Sims 4 is like any other piece of media now - instant gratification. Why would young people spend the time raising a child and waiting (Sim)years for the rewards (and facing the challenges), when they could post a SimTube video and get a hundred likes and followers?
THIS all the way. sadly this is so true. And when I read the bolded sone people I know personally flashed before my eyes.
I agree until you said more important than the sim itself, it’s not, but at this point in the game do any of y’all really think they’re going to fix it now? It’s way too late.
That said, I’m looking forward to ROM, barring they don’t screw it up, and then I’ll likely be done with TS4 for good. Witches were the only thing I was kinda waiting for, now I can 100% wait for TS5 or a competitor game.

Do this in Sims2 and you’ll get the full experience. Babies in TS4 are... not up to par.

Its been a long time since I was being positive about TS4, you did it Maxis!
I know sometimes I look like an hater but genuinely Im not! English is not my first language and when I speak loud I tend to be exaggerated sometimes and it can be rude. This year was kinda disappointing after Get Famous but Realm of Magic got my attention back to TS4 even if is just for a couple of weeks.
