Like for their Sleeping outfits, I usually forgo socks and just have them be barefooted. But some Sims I have sleeping in Socks, or Stockings. Especially if it's cold. (Not that it makes a difference, as far as game mechanics go, I don't think the game can tell the difference between a Swimsuit or a Coat, if the outfit is still counted as the Sim's "Cold Weather" Outfit)
Yes, especially males. If they are wearing a suit or dress pants that require socks, of course. It looks silly to see a well dressed male and then see skin between their pant leg and shoe. Or something a townie decided to wear.
