Make their last days as happy as possible (e.g. granting most wishes, letting them do things they enjoy, etc.)
My current generation is getting old with two more elders in my household.

I had meant to send them to Champs Les Sims but misclicked and found my boys in Shang Simla. I decided to go ahead with it because the boys will have fun wherever they are
My very first sims 3 family was very short lived. I painstakingly made them very similar to both my wife and myself and even named them us with similar traits. I then started playing without knowing anything about the age slider or aging on/off button. My sims grew older, then old, and then the husband died. The wife cried her eyes out all day every day. Within a day or two of getting past her mourning period, she passed away as well. And my family was gone. They had no children. They still lived in their very first house.
It was devastating to me and I swore not to do that again. I put way too much into building their skills and they perished. They were just gone. After that, I made families about whom I cared very little and used cheat codes to amass large fortunes. They also had children and I just kept getting richer. Eventually, this phase passed and I made use of the aging sliders. I also got some expansions and with the help of the LTR and the Chemistry Lab, I could hold onto my sims forever! Until I then lost a family due to reinstalling Windows without remembering to first save my Sims files! That one hurt as well!

@Nabril That would have been devastating! I don't think I have ever had a sim die childless! What happens to a save when the last sim in the household dies?
I haven't had many hit Elder status yet, but when they do I just continue as usual. Namely let them do as they will via maximized Free Will. I do force them to eat, sleep, or bathe/shower if needed. But otherwise let them do as they will. Mind you, I normally have aging turned off unless there's children in the household.
Fear not the fae, for they are harmless. Anger not the fae, beware their wraith. Harm not the fae, fear the Faerie Knight.

@Faerie197 Thanks for voting I also mostly leave my elders on free will to do as they please but I also control them enough to get as many wishes granted as possible. Most of my sims are left to free will, with the exception of meal times, sleep and the granting of wishes with the exception of children/teens who are controlled a little more to ensure they are adequately skilled before they age up and leave the house.
To think of it, I've already given elders a different story line.
Such as a new romance, trips or a new business. Even though it's short, it's nice to see them pursuing new goals.

@thuggishsplicer I can't do a new romance for my sims because mine are faithful even after death LOL but it sounds like you do look after your elders well

My next generation of elders are at university They got full scholarships. Not that they need it as the family is a few generations in and are very rich.
I loved my sim until he got old and I feel horrible about it. Like, the second he aged, I was all set. On to the younger people! I do have him still working, though. He brings home something around 4K home from work, and since he is a workaholic, he works from home all the time and gets paid for that as well. My younger sims don't make nearly as much so I don't want him to go! Not just yet.
